ReviewoftheYear(I)
2021wasachallengingyearforPlayOnside.Theglobalpandemiccontinuedtoputrestrictionson the PlayOnside programs and the Migrant Learning Centres (MLCs) in our region remained closed throughout the year. In Februrary 2021 Myanmar experienced a military coup. Protests arise countrywide and the military answered the protest with brute force, forcing millions of people to flee the violence. An increased number of refugees in our region also forced PlayOnside to address the situation, partnering with other community-based organization to provide essentials such as food, medicine, and shelter for the influx of new arrivals. The coup triggered a civil war that is still ongoingandlargelyignoredbytheinternationalcommunity.
ReviewoftheYear(II)
Because of the new context of local challenges related to the consequences of the lockdowns andthecoup,PlayOnsidereinventeditselfandreadjusteditsinterventions.Aswewereunableto arrange large-scale team activities for the children, we primarily focused on Emotional Resilience Program through home-based learning, and our Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights(SRHR)Program.Aspartnersinthelocalcommunitiesexpressedconcernsaboutaspikein child marriages and girl pregnancies, we invented our SRHR program where migrant youth and teenslearnaboutchildrights,STDs,reproductivesystems, maternalhealth, andsexualviolence. This program has been a great success and we experience more and more local communities asking PlayOnside to implement the program in their community. Football trainings were also implemented, butinasmallerscale, reachingoutmostlywomenandyouth.
We also took the opportunity to build capacity and skills within the organization to enable us to furtherprovidequalityinformaleducationforBurmesemigrantschildrengrowingupinThailand.

Our football training provides a space to release stress and and meet old and new friends. As the lockdown eased, more people joined our football activities, doubling the number of participants. CONCLUSIONS&EXPECTATIONS
2021 has been the year of confirmation that PlayOnside is more than a football or sports organization. The programs that were born in 2020 due to the pandemic arrived to stay, taking into account the interest and requests of communities, schools and other organizations to continuetheirimplementation.
This evolution, together with the level of maturity of the workforce, makes us look at 2022 with optimism but caution, since the opening of the schools is still unconfirmed. If this happens, we will do as we have always done. Observe, ask, reflect, and plan the best program that suits the needs of our beneficiaries and collaborators. What we have no doubt about, is that PlayOnside willbethere, givingitsbestatalltimes.Thiswouldnotbepossiblewithoutyoursupport, andfor this reason, on behalf of the entire PlayOnside family, we want to thank you for your support andunconditionaltrust!
