CONCLUSIONS & EXPECTATIONS
2020 WHEN THE WORLD SHAKED Once upon a time, there was an organization called PlayOnside that started 2020 full of energy and motivation. 2019 was a year of consolidation, recognition and growth of the individuals and the organization. The nomination for the FIFA Diversity Award, the success of the trainings, tournaments and programs run during the year and the coming exciting participation in the TAR International Tournament in Bangkok gave them enough reasons to be extremely optimistic. At the beginning of 2020 more than 700 children and teachers could gather together and celebrate the end of the tournament. There were trainings all around Mae Sot every week and the sound of the children, laughing and shouting in the schools were part of their and our daily lives. But all of a sudden everything changed. Something called Covid-19 arrived to change everyone's plans, to challenge ourselves and to basically create a new scenario to deal with.

PFA BANGKOK ONCE AGAIN...AMAZING VISIT!
Professional Football Academy (PFA) was founded in Bangkok in 2016 by a group of professionals from Barcelona (Spain) with a long and recognized experience in the world of coaching. PFA has highly qualified technical staff with international experience, and its own working methodology with a very wide range of programs that ensure optimum quality standards, always respecting the particularities of each culture/community.
For more than 5 years PFA and PlayOnside have collaborated in different ways, be it through training workshops, collecting materials or tournaments, which makes them one of our most important partners. 2020 was not going to be any different and our friends from PFA packed their bags and traveled to Mae Sot to share with our team and our schools their training methodologies and their positive vibes and giving us some clues about the TAR Tournament in which we participated a few months. later. It is a pride to have support like PFA where we share not only the passion for football but for the development and education of the children.

CLOSING DAY MINGALARBAR MAE SOT LEAGUE SHOW MUST BEGIN!
After ten intense and fun weeks of the Mingalarbar Mae Sot League it was time to chill and enjoy the activities and the games during the Closing Day. This yearly event is organized to thank the schools for the three-months commitment and also to strengthen frienships and reward the participants.
10 different sports events were set up with the collaboration of partners organizations and volunteers that dedicated their time to bring fun, critical thinking and knowledge to the children and youth. Without their support it would be impossible to make it happen!
During this edition due to the high number of teams (63) the tournament took place in three different locations so we didn't have the chance to meet everyone at the same time. But the Closing Ceremony is different. There, we all gathered together, children, teachers, headmasters, parents, volunteers and staff from PlayOnside - for a day of different fun activities.
The winners of the tournament got their welldeserved trophy, but to celebrate participation, diversity and fair play was, of course, the most important part. Friendships are formed across the different schools, and we wrapped up the day with lunch provided by some schools and fresh fruits.
The topic this year was the Olympic Games, creating a day of celebration where we mixed the participants in 20 different teams with the name of cities and divisions from Thailand and Myanmar creating a team feeling regardless the school or the area you come from.

WOMEN MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
GENDER EQUALITY ON AND OFF THE FIELD!
The Women Mentorship Program was set up in August 2019. Once a week, the staff meet, creating a safe space for women to discuss various topics, This program is based on research, discussions and sharing around women's issues, covering topics like gender identity, women's rights and the stereotypes around the community. The primary objective is to support women’s betterment in the community and acquire knowledge and understanding, to promote informed decisions around the community.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY This year, PlayOnside organized a one-day event of discussions and play in order to bring awareness in both, males and females about the inequalities still existing and the stereotypes both genders face. The event was a great success with participants coming from different nationalities, ages and backgrounds.

TAR INTERNATIONAL QUALIFIERS TOURNAMENT BALL'IN BANGKOK!!
PlayOnside was invited to participate in this well-known International Tournament were most of the best teams in Asia compete to get a space in the finals in Barcelona. Our main objecitve was not winning but give the chance to live this one-time life experience to 14 kids under 11 years old. The selection was hard and was not solely based on the football skills as it is not in the philosophy of our organization Finally 14 players among 50 from nine different MLCs and communities were selected being a great way to promote social integration and team building. Through regular trainings working towards a common goal the players created new friendships and were a nice event to bring the migrant communities together. PlayOnside's team did not manage to win any game on the field but many off the field and we returned with big smiles on our faces. It was an extraordinary experience, giving the children (and adults) memories of their life. Click to see the amazing Video by Lush Life

JES PROJECT THIS YEAR...MINMAHAW!
30 STUDENTS ONCE A WEEK MINMAHAW
For the third consecutive year, PlayOsnide has implemented the JES project that provides entrepreneurship skills to the students. After CDC school in 2018 and Parami school in 2019, 2020 was Minmahaw's year. 11 students joined the program and created the organization called "Tools for School" in order to identify and raise funding to improve the school facilities so that, the future Minmahaw's students will be able to receive a higher quality program.
The JES project develops different skills such as report and proposal writing, accounting, management and shows the students step by step how to start up an organization providing very valuable learning for their future careers. The collaboration this year was with the students Reina Adosina school in Asturias, Spain, and it gives a unique experience for both groups of students to share experiences and to learn how to work together to reach the same goals despite the different backgrounds and realities both live in.

FEMALE TRAINING
GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERMENT The aim of the female training is to promote Gender Equality and Empower Women in the Migrant community through football. The training takes place every Thursday, and to incentivize motivation, there is a football game with other female football teams in town every two weeks. More than 40 women from different ethnicities, ages, and nationalities join every week to participate in the training. Not only to improve their football skills and teamwork but to meet with their colleagues. Over the years, an increase in social skills and sense of belonging has been observed among the participants. As a result, the female training becomes a safe space where they can share their experiences, support each other and identify needs from the community.
+40 WOMEN ONCE A WEEK NFC FIELD
Over the last 4 years, since we started this project we have seen an increase in the number of participants every year, as well as the levels of confidence, self-esteem, and well-being. The friendships were created to go beyond the training sessions, expanding this way our PlayOnside family!

THE APPROACH "I think this program is really important these days as it helps the children to understand their feelings and emotions" COACH PYAE SONE
PlayOnside's Emotional Resilience Program approach is based on discussions, games, sport, and fun to promote motivation and team building within the communities. Each unit addresses different areas of the emotional impact of the pandemic. Discussions are tightly linked with the practical games and activities, with highlights on critical thinking skills. Every lesson starts with a “reflection discussion” based on the students' feelings and emotions, in order to keep track on their current situation. Homework is created to reinforce the knowledge of the topic and involve the parents in the children's learning.

STARFLOWER HOME BASED LEARNING ADAPTING TO EACH STUDENT'S NEED The aim of Star Flower Project is to empower and encourage the physical development and psychosocial and emotional well-being of the students through dynamic activities. Based on individual teaching in the student's home, because of Covid – 19 pandemic, every lesson was designed based on the individual needs in order to improve their ability to communicate with their environment. This program has a huge positive impact not only on education but also on social and emotional skills. Those kids were able to improve their motor skills, as well as their well-being.

GREEN ISLAND ARTS, MOVIES AND SPORTS! The impact of the Covid-19 put a large number of people’s jobs at risk and schools are currently closed. People in poor communities like Green Island are facing many problems and students are likely to experience a learning loss during the pandemic. In order to fill this huge educational gap, PlayOnside implemented the Emotional Resilience Program (ERP) as part of the Home-Based Learning. HBL classes are aimed to keep children in touch with education since the COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in all areas as well as in the field of education. The weekly ERP classes have the purpose of being capable of adapting to social interactions, getting to understand our feelings, discuss and share about them and how to deal with them in the most positive way.
50 CHILDREN TWICE A WEEK GREEN ISLAND
As a complement of the HBL, PlayOnside organized different activities to reinforce this knowledge. One example is Friday's movie night that gathers all the members of the community, creating a healthy space for interaction and discussions about different topics that are relevant for the different members of our special Green Island.

PHOP PHRA ACADEMY
BRINGING FOOTBALL TO THE COUNTRYSIDE! The Phop Phra district is located on the outskirts of Mae Sot, about 40 km south along the border. When you get to Phop Phra everything turns green and you find immense fields of cultivation mostly worked by the Burmese population that is distributed in the hundred of communities established in the area. Due to the lack of resources and adequate spaces for the game, last year we decided together with our friend organizations Collaborate Burma and Estudio Cavernas to give the students of the different Phop Phra schools the possibility to enjoy their own "stadium". After months of work by all the agents involved in June, the Phop Phra Academy was ready to host more than 200 students each week and available to the rest of the community members to enjoy practicing their favorite sport in the best conditions. Its regular use has been postponed due to Covid, but without a doubt, this center will become, once the pandemic passes, the perfect place for learning, cohesion and passion for sports.

Hospitality & Catering Training Center (HCTC) helps underprivileged young people by offering them a chance to access promising jobs in the hospitality catering sector. Every year, the center offers about 30 young people the opportunity to learn all associated trades, from cooking to accommodation and reception to service, over a two-year period. Each student completes two internships and practices every week at ″The Passport″ restaurant. All the students receive solid basic training in life skills, a guarantee of success for their adult life and professional integration.
30 STUDENTS WEEKDAYS HCTC
Leadership development programs are now more important than ever and it is extremely significant for the daily basis for individuals and organizations. The Leadership Program is a collaboration between PlayOnside and The HCTC from September to November 2020 where PlayOnside built up a solid curriculum accordingly to the students' needs and specific target groups. The goal of the program is to develop the students' leadership skills, improve their selfconfidence and critical thinking skills, develop effective communication in the team, and strong constructing a sense of ownership to help the students an easier integration in the professional sector.

YOUTH TRAINING SUPPORTING EACH OTHER!!
During the pandemic, the Migrant Learning Centers suddenly closed and all of the youth concluded with no regular lessons and activities. The impact of Covid on this target group has been terrifying due to the lack of social interactions, and the fear of what their academic and professional careers will turn into. The time in front of a screen increased drastically either with social media and games and the levels of stress among the family where there are no jobs and activities in the environment have grown in a worrying way. Seeking a solution to ease this impact, PlayOnside developed the Youth Training Project to deliver life skills, physical education, and social development outdoors. Through the different activities, we encouraged cohesion between the different players, teamwork and emotional support with the aim to bring motivation and provide comfort to the youth. The participants came from different schools and areas in Mae Sot so through these regular sessions youth got the chance to get to know other peers and extend their own network.

TIGER TRAINING
SUA SUA SUA!!
Four years ago, we started a project dedicated to weekly training for women interested in learning soccer, having fun, and sharing experiences with other women living in Mae Sot. Little by little, we have been creating a big family that meets on Thursdays every week to enjoy the ball. In many of these trainings their children and siblings who stayed around the field accompanied the girls who joined us. This is where PlayOnside identified a need. At first, it all started when two of our coaches began to organize games with the children who were bored. Little by little, many of the mothers who were participating were sharing it with other girls and we were creating another little family. This step was very important because more girls had the opportunity to come to the training because they could leave their children doing activities while they attended the training. The Sua team integrates more than 8 nationalities and languages. enriching the experiences of these children. Approximately 40 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 12 enjoy the weekly sessions.

The program aims for sustainability by providing 2 youth the knowledge to guide the younger ones in their practice to eventually become the ones running the program.

PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID TRAINING
CAPACITY BUILDING
PFA is an initial response intervention after trauma or disaster. The goal is to reduce the initial distress that children or families can suffer after a traumatic event. As potential first responders, our staff is trained to promote safety, stabilize survivors and connect individuals to the right help and resources.
PHOTO TRAINING Daniel from Lush Life brought his experience in photography and videography to the PlayOnside staff interested in learning and improving their skills in this important area of the organization. Four staff joined the course and explore their creativity through the lens enjoying activities that mixed theoretical and practical approach.
FIRST AID TRAINING In October, PlayOnside staff took the First Aid training at Mae Tao Clinic (MTC). MTC is a local NGO, which provides health services to migrants on the border. PlayOnside has built a partnership with MTC over the years through different events and activities. In order to promote a healthy, secure and safer environment among children and participants in the PlayOnside program. Sports are intensive and competitive activities, which expose children to accidents and injuries. Therefore, this training is a must on our yearly basis.
EXCEL TRAINING In September, Ole organized the excel workshop with some staff who were eager to know the fundamental Excel skills related to the accounting aspect, making financial reports, budgeting and data collection. Four members of PlayOnside joined the training being able to improve their individual skills and also improving the quality of our programs. 28
PARTNERSHIPS& COLLABORATIONS If there is something positive about 2020 is the increase of online "relationships" over the world. This pandemic has forced us to spend more hours in front of computers and reinvent the way of communication. This year PlayOnside has been able to create new bonds and new individuals, companies and organizations have shown interest in our program. We also had the opportunity to announce our first Ambassador, Sergio Rodriguez Oliva, goalkeeper of the Blinf Football Team that will represent Spain in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. We want to sincerely thank all the people that have kept their trust in these difficult times and to those that have decided to bet on us in a year of changes, uncertainty and instability. We can assure all of you that our team keeps the motivation, enthusiasm and commitment to give the 100% we have, to keep supporting this community and especially these days that is more needed than ever.

CONCLUSIONS & EXPECTATIONS 2020
will go down in history as the year the world collapsed. When we look back we will possibly feel a cocktail of
emotions. Some will remember it with anger, sadness and frustration. Others like a year of adaptation, self-knowledge and growth. For PlayOnside, despite the obstacles and pain that the pandemic has left, it has been a year of inflection, where we have confirmed such important aspects in a work team such as commitment to our work, responsibility towards those we support during these years and the great team spirit where each and every one of the members of the staff has been there to reach out to those who needed it. This has allowed us not to lower our arms, stop and reflect on how PlayOnside could continue to be useful for the community. The results are there, with the new projects that have come to stay, which confirms the maturity of the organization, the ability to adapt and the effort and commitment to continue learning and growing to continue achieving our objectives. We owe it to all of you who trust us, both those who support us from abroad and each individual who decides to be part of our programs.
2021
It is presented globally as a year of uncertainty and whether things will finally return to relative normality or we will
continue in this unstable scenario. For PlayOnside, the objective of 2021 is to consolidate new projects, increasing their quality through the continuous training of the team. Continuous training in all areas of the project allows us to be prepared for the challenges of the future, ensuring the medium and long-term sustainability of the organization. Collaboration with other local organizations in the last year has also been crucial in providing the community with the resources to overcome the obstacles they face and we will continue to work on this, fighting for the essential rights of each and every person in the community. For PlayOnside it is important to preserve the philosophy and values that have brought us here and for this we will continue to advocate. In an environment of uncertainty there is only one certainty, and it is the commitment, the effort, and the humility to improve each day individually and collectively, for ourselves, for them and for you.
