Pine Street is a Welcoming Church, Glorifying God through Worship, Fellowship and Service in the World.
Twenty-first Sunday After Pentecost
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical Body of your Son. Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, so that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
VOLUNTARY The Church’s One Foundation arr. by John Purifoy (Please use the opening voluntary as a time of silent meditation and preparation for worship.)

Many: Hear us, O God.
One: For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven and was born of the Virgin Mary, who by his cross and suffering redeemed the world and has washed us from our sins; who on the third day rose from the dead and has given us the victory; who ascended on high and interceded for us at the right hand of God.
Many: Great is your love.
One: For ... we say,
Many: thanks be to God.
One: Be gracious to us; deliver your people
Many: Hear us, O God.

One: Give new life to your servants by the grace of baptism. Strengthen all who bear the sign of the cross. Clothe us in compassion and love. Bring us with all your saints to the river of life.
Many: Hear us, O God.
Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle. You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope, and love, we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Christ.
† KYRIE

One: Believe the good news of the gospel. The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Many: Thanks be to God!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Confession of 1967
Out of Israel, God in due time raised up Jesus. His faith and obedience were the response of the perfect child of God. He was the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel, the beginning of the new creation, and the pioneer of the new humanity. He gave history its meaning and direction and called the church to be his servant for the reconciliation of the world.
† THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

Clouds of witnesses surround us, saints whose heritage we claim. Christ’s own love has bought and bound us one with all who bear his name. Here, within this congregation, trusting your strong Word alone, help us build on this foundation: Christ, the living cornerstone. Holy Spirit’s fire, falling where your faithful people pray: Fall on us, expectant, calling, gathered in your name today. Come, through word of mystic power; come, water, bread and wine. Gifts of grace upon us shower; Christ’s pure light among us shine. Send us where your people languish, lost in depths of sin, despair. Send us where they lie in anguish, wounded, wasted, bowed with care. Lord, you Gospel’s Word of freedom let our lives, our lips reveal till the long awaited kingdom comes this broken world to heal. Help us, as the saints before us, bear with faithfulness your name till we join the mighty chorus singing hymns of glad acclaim: Praise the Lamb, once slain, victorious over death forevermore, Father, Spirit, ever glorious, Triune God whom we adore. Triune God whom we adore.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
