Kolae is a fishing boat used by the local people living in Thailand’s southernmost provinces. Kolae is a Malay word which means to float or wobble because the Kolae boat has a round-bottomed hull. However, it does not flip easily since it is streamlined, and its gunwales are wide. The locals have a deep bond with the Kolae boat as it is a means of livelihood. In addition, they use the Kolae boat as a vehicle for travelling and transporting goods, as well as for recreation. We can say that the Kolae boat is regarded as the sailing heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation.
