At this free event, explore our current exhibitions, experiment with art materials and discover the performing arts. Any creations made during this event can be taken home. Preregistration is encouraged.

At Place des Arts we’re on a musical mission and we need your help to hit all the right notes! As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on your generosity to help us continue nurturing artistic development and creative expression. This Giving Tuesday, a day that celebrates kindness and the spirit of giving, we are inviting you to play an instrumental role in supporting our music programs. Each of the following milestone brings us one step closer to ensuring we provide quality instruments, enhancing our music programs and fostering more of the budding talent in our community. We’re joining our friends at Coquitlam Heritage Society for a family-friendly afternoon full of delightful art activities and wonder. Try your hand at a seasonal art activity outside at our tent or participate in creating one-of-a-kind lanterns inside Place des Arts. Free to Attend.

General Information Day of the Arts runs from 9:00 AM to 3:35 PM. Students choose from five activity blocks. Blocks are a mix of art activities. For a list of activities in each block, please refer to the timetable inside this brochure. Small class sizes in each block ensure that students receive quality instruction. Students should wear clothes for movement and getting messy. Students should also bring nut-free snacks, lunch, a water bottle and a bag or box to hold completed artwork.

Withdrawals
Day of the Arts Pro-D Day Camp
Friday, February 23, 2024 Kindergarten to Grade 5
A student may withdraw up to seven (7) days prior to the camp start date. A request to withdraw must be submitted to the registration desk, over the phone at 604-664-1636 ext. 0 or via email to info@placedesarts.ca. Upon receipt of a withdrawal request, a refund of the class fee will be granted less the non-refundable registration fee. Refunds will not be granted after the seven (7) day period has passed. Exceptions for medical or compassionate reasons may be considered upon receipt of a written request submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start date of the class to info@placedesarts.ca. A medical certificate may be required. Upon approval, a refund of the class fee will be granted, less the registration fee, processing fee for online enrolments and any applicable supply fees.

Dream House Design
Use your imagination to design your dream house! Make houses that fold out to show the inside and outside. Using watercolour paint, pencil crayons or pastels and scissors, create cool houses and fill them with fun rooms. Teacher: Cara Bain

Dream House Design
In this hands-on class, play and learn about drums and percussion instruments, and explore rhythms from around the world. Teacher: Jason Overy
Wet Felting
Experience the magic technique of wet felting using wool and learn how to create a felted treasure. Teacher: Catherine Dumaine
Ink Landscape Painting
Get in touch with nature by painting the outdoors with the Chinese traditional mediums of ink, watercolour and rice paper. You will be introduced to ink painting techniques such as brushstrokes and dry and wet brush methods. Learn to paint elements such as bamboo, rocks, mountains, rivers, animals and more to create a full composition. Teacher: Ming Kong
Hip Hop and Breakdance
Explore the fundamentals of hip hop and breakdancing! Kick it old school with classic moves like the baby freeze and learn how to pop and lock, then combine the moves into a wicked piece! Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Dance to the rhythm and learn some moves from a variety of hip hop styles! Classes include a variety of movement and coordination games and fun activities. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette
Musical Theatre Fun
Learn to dance, sing and act in this lively class! Play fun, interactive drama games and learn physical and vocal warm-ups. Then dive into the basics of musical theatre including character development, coordination and storytelling. Using popular musical theatre songs and routines, combine your skills and find out what it takes to be a performer! Teacher: Joanna Kovats
Origami Dance Floor
Develop your creativity and refine your motor skills with the art of origami. Make paper dancers wearing formal attire using paper folding techniques. Teacher: Sarah Park

Watercolour Monsters
