ABOUT CULTURE DAYS Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. At the end of each September, millions of people attend thousands of free participatory arts and culture events across the country both in-person and online. Culture Days programs invite the public to get handson and behind-the-scenes to highlight the importance of arts and culture in our communities. The next national Culture Days celebration will take place September 23rd through October 16th, 2022 for three glorious weeks of colour, creativity, and community. Learn about the wonderful world of paper dolls, create dolls from various cultures, learn about the vast array of dolls in Coquitlam Heritage’s collection and help us celebrate the launch of our new online collection database. Make and decorate paper dolls from around the world, and browse our online doll exhibit The Uncanny Valley. Join us at the museum for this free family friendly event. Where? Family Days at the Art Gallery at Evergreen In-person
Families will visit an outdoor installation of “Hats’adän echo (Elder’s teachings),” (2020) by artist Krystle Silverfox on the public-facing windows of the Evergreen Cultural Centre. Inspired by this digital collage artwork, families will create a three-dimensional collage and experiment with layering a variety of materials, including transparent papers, beads and other items. Families are encouraged to think about their identity and the places they are connected to, near and far, and allow these relationships to inspire their own unique creation. Types of Events:
Join Lions Park Artist-in-Residence, Kaitlyn Beugh, and witness the rain garden as it takes form. Sit alongside it sketching your favourite parts during these open studio sessions with the artist. Colouring pages inspired by the rain garden and blank paper will be available, along with basic art materials such as crayons, pencils and erasers. Feel free to bring any other art material you’d like to use during the session. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please meet the artist at the Lions Park Fieldhouse. It is recommended that participants bring a chair or blanket to sit on for the duration of the workshop.
Blackberry Gift Shop Artist Demos: Art 4 Life Open House In-person
As part of the PoMoArts Art 4 Life Open House, local artisans from the Blackberry Gift Shop will be demonstrating how they create their unique works of art. From needle felting to encaustic painting and more — come by and see how its done, talk to our artists and even try your hand at it. The Blackberry Gift Shop is open too. Where?
