Kindergarten - Grade 5 Spring Break Camp
Students from kindergarten to grade 2 and grades 3 to 5 choose one full-day block that runs Monday – Friday. Each block contains six classes of activities. Small class sizes ensure that students receive quality time with their teachers. Please refer to the timetable for the content of each block. Students should bring a nut-free lunch and snack each day.
Grades 6 - 9 Spring Break Intensives
Four, week-long, half-day art intensives run over the two weeks of the SD43 Spring Break and are designed specifically for youth, allowing them to delve further into their chosen art form. Students taking both morning and afternoon intensives should bring a nut-free lunch and snack each day.
Place des Arts is a nut-aware facility during camps. As some camp participants have allergies, please do not bring foods with nuts or nut products to camp.
Registration on January 29, 2023
Registration opens on Sunday, January 29. Registration may be done online starting at 7:00 AM or 1:00 PM in-person or by phone at 604-664-1636. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment of program fees must be made at the time of registration.
Withdrawal
A student may withdraw up to seven (7) days prior to the camp start date. A refund of the class fee will be granted less the nonrefundable registration fee. Refunds will not be granted after the seven (7) day period has passed. Exceptions for medical or compassionate reasons may be considered upon receipt of a written request submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start date of the class to info@placedesarts.ca. A medical certificate may be required. Upon approval, a refund of the class fee will be granted, less the registration fee and any applicable supply fees.

Kindergarten - Grade 5 Camp Class Descriptions (March 13 - 17)
Artistic Adventures
Teacher: Mariana Frochtengarten
In this imaginative, hands-on, mixed media class, children will explore a variety of materials and experiment with expressing themselves in different formats and dimensions. Kids will develop motor skills, expand their imagination and create freely in a friendly and nurturing environment. Every child is unique, and this class encourages them to explore their individuality.
Colour and Pattern Play
Teacher: Cyd Eva
Have fun with colours and patterns! You will create abstract art while learning about the colour wheel and colour mixing through finger painting, collage, printmaking, drawing and painting. This class is rewarding for young artists of every skill level!
Drama Club Jr.
Teacher: Seamus Fera
Let your imagination run free! You will explore character development, physical theatre and how to properly use your voice by rehearsing a short play. Dive into scripts like Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Jungle Book. The week will culminate in a performance for friends and family. Whether you are an avid thespian or want to dip your toe in the world of theatre, this collaborative club is for you!
Drums Around the World
Teacher: Jason Overy
Learn about drums and percussion from around the world, including North and South America, Africa, Cuba, the Middle East, Japan and Brazil. Come play some rhythms alongside recordings and synthesizers. Get your groove on and release your inner drummer!
Flower Power Botanical Art
Teacher: Cyd Eva
Nature is all around us, and we can create art with it and make art about it! Learn about local and international artists who use nature as inspiration, then work with flowers and plants, both real and artificial, to make collages, prints, flowerpots, bouquets and floral still life. Take in the natural beauty around you and use your unique interpretation of nature to create botanical art.
Guitar 101
Teacher: Jimmy Baldwin
Discover the enjoyment of music and the guitar in this fun ensemble setting. Learn basic chord shapes, rhythms and techniques for playing simple arrangements of songs. Cover basic theory and learn about musical genres by listening to and playing blues, jazz, rock, country, pop, hip hop, classical and more!
Hip Hop and Breakdance
Teacher: Ashley Binette
Explore the fundamentals of hip hop and breakdancing! Kick it old school with classic moves like the baby freeze and learn how to pop and lock, then combine the moves into a wicked piece! Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking running shoes or bare feet.
Mixed Media Madness!
Teacher: Clarissa Banos
Discover the endless possibilities of mixed media by combining many surprising materials and techniques, like oil pastels, shaving cream, bingo dabbers, toothpaste, fabric and colourful sand. Create many amazing art projects like a self-portrait, a puppet, a mobile or a mask!
Origami Under the Sea

Build an underwater world with origami! Together we will make a scuba diver and ocean animals like a squid, octopus and various types of fish by folding paper.
Origami Universe

Let’s go to space with origami! We will learn to make astronauts, spaceships, planets and stars by folding paper. A new paper universe awaits you.
Painting and Drawing Explorations

Create art that tells a story about you! Experiment with painting, drawing, writing and mixed media techniques to make art that connects to you personally.
Weaving Fun
Teacher: Catherine Dumaine
Have fun with fibre arts and create beautiful, functional, one-of-a-kind treasures. Gain hands-on experience with spinning, dyeing, weaving and felting while developing colour sense and learning how different fibres can transform.
Comics and Cartoon Creation
Teacher: Naomi Fong
Create your own characters and sequential stories! Students will learn about conceptualizing and drawing their own fully developed character designs for comics and cartoons.
Drama Club Sr.

Actors to the stage! Learn to follow your impulses and improve your rehearsal and performance skills in this week-long intensive. Work creatively and connect with your peers to devise a show. Perform it for your friends and family at the end of the week.
Dress to Express: Painted Denim Jackets
Teacher: Cyd Eva
Upcycle clothing to make fierce fashion statements and express yourself. Learn about local and international upcycling designers and the sustainable Fashion Revolution. You will learn textile painting, make patches and paint a denim jacket that you will keep after the camp. Basic materials will be provided, students are encouraged to bring clothing and materials to upcycle.
Printmaking
Teacher: Tami Murray
Explore printmaking techniques to express yourself in a multitude of ways. We will create printmaking runs of self-guided subjects. Methods will include monoprinting, relief and more.
Intensives Supervision Policy
Place des Arts does not provide supervision before or after class or during break times for students registered in our art intensive programs. Place des Arts does not assume responsibility for the well-being and safety of minors who are left unattended. If your child(ren) are registered for both the morning and afternoon intensive classes, they are welcome to eat their lunch at tables in the atrium or outside on Place des Arts property during the lunchtime break between classes (12:00-12:35 PM). Students must remain on Place des Arts property during lunch and within the designated boundaries, which will be identified on the first day of class by a Place des Arts staff member. Alternatively, parents are welcome to pick up their child(ren) and leave Place des Arts property during lunchtime.
