Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal, NGO has been working in the field of environmental education, research and public awareness for last 19 years. For the purpose of giving a platform to nature lovers to show their green eyes to others, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal organized "Nandanvan ... Beautiful Home Garden competition. This 10th Competition was held in Thane and Kalwa. Total 48 participants and 10 societies participated in this competition. The prize distribution ceremony of this competition was held on Sunday 6th January at Alark Desai bungalow, Thane. Shri. Kedar Patil (TMC Horticulture Department) was the chief guest. Dr. Vikas Hajirnis (President, Enviro vigil), Prof. Vidyadhar Walavalkar (President, PDM) Shri. Anil Thakre (Former forest officer), Dr. Mansi Joshi (Treasurer, PDM), Seema Joshi (General Khadi Safari..................................................3 Secretary, PDM) and Dr. Sanjay Joshi (Vice president, PDM) were also present . This competition was held in different categories like terraces garden, box-grill garden, land-scape garden, hanging Bhatkani garden, and certain innovative ideas like social contribution, society landscape, water management, Naturetrail –Da aji Salavi Udyan & kitchen garden ,tray garden, aquarium , cactus-Succulents and Bonsai etc. Dr. Mansi Joshi, Mr. Anil Manpada Nisarga Parichay Kendra .................3 Thakre and Mrs.Pournima Shirgaonkar were the Judges.

Infotainment Through Nisarg Mela In Dombivli
Prize winners in Nisarg Mela at Dombivali.
Student Participants in Nisarg Mela at Dombivali. PDM, Dombivli, Rotary Club of Young Dombivli and Rotary Club of Dombivli Premium organized “Nisargmela 2019” on 17 January 2019 at Prakash Vidyalay, Gograswadi, Dombivli (E). This was fourth year of Nisargmela at Dombivli. 25 schools and 380 students participated in the various competitions like Selfie with plant, Power point Presentation, Bird Information Book, Butterfly Identification, Elocution, Working Model, Poster Making, Best out of Waste, Street Play and Environmental Song etc. All the competitions were judged by different personalities of respective fields.The judges played substantially important role in conveying the message of conservation &the main aim behind conducting such competitions. Rtn. Dr. Chandrashekhar Kolvekar – District governor of Rotary club was chief guest of Nisargmela. Dr. Sanjay Joshi – President of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal, Mrs. Seema Joshi – Secretory, Mr. Sudhakar Tiwari – President of Rotary Club, Rtn. Dr. Mangal Tiwari – Project Chairperson, Rtn. Dr. Sanjaykumar Tiwari and many Rotary club members were present . They actively played role in the competitions. It was followed by felicitation ceremony. The winners were awarded with certificates and prizes. This year Gaondevi Vidyamandir, Dombivli West won this trophy. Exhibits of Turtle Festival, Crocodiles, Jackal, Great Indian Bustard, Raan Bhaaji, etc. were exhibited for students. Also, a brain storming session was conducted by Child Psychologist Mr. Anuj. He communicated with students regarding their emotions, feelings, career related topics, etc. PDM's Dombivli Project coordinators Mrs. Rupali Shaiwale and Mrs Hemangi Samant, Kalyan Project coordinator Ms Lalita Ashtekar, Thane Project coordinators Mrs Ppurnima Bhosle, Mrs Nishtha Raut, Ms. Chitra Mhaske, Shankar, Mamnoli Project oordinator Mr Shree Tare worked for successful organization of Nisargmela.
Hanging Basket Workshop
Know Your City Quiz On the occasion of Swachh Sarvekshan 2019, ‘Know Your City Quiz’ was cordially organized by Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal and Environmental Science Department of B.K. Birla College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Kalyan on 4th January 2019. About 130 students were present for this event. Rupali Shaiwale started the session by introducing about PDM to the students. Later, a Presentation on Kalyan Dombivali Muncipal Cooperation, SWM, ODF, and Natural Methods of Wet Waste Disposal was explained to the students. The Quiz was conducted by Lalita Ashtekar, which was based on the earlier presentation, Total 17 teams, each team with 2 members, participated in this competition. Mr. Kaustubh Mirujkar of Local Self Government was also present during the whole event. 3 teams were felicitated for winning the competition, as they know their city well. Faculty members namely Mrs. Vandana Gupta (Asst. Prof. at Environmental Science Department), Dr. Kantilal Nagare (Prof. at Zoology Department) were also present for this event.
Dr. Anjali Ratnakar explaining the technique of making hanging baskets. PDM, Dombivli organized a workshop on Hanging Plants on 5th January at PDM's Dombivali office. Dr Anjali Ratnakar guided the participants over the topic. She explained different aspects of hanging plants, its care, etc. with the help of ppt and some live specimens. She also demonstrated pot filling of hanging basket. Mrs. Rupali Shaiwale explained the roll of PDM in the field of environmental awareness and Palvi activities conducted in Dombivli. Total 17 people participated in the workshop.

World Wetland Day’ Awareness Session 2019 Thane city has a very rich cultural and natural heritage. The location of Thane Creek is unique. It is a home for many water birds, migratory birds, marine animals and mangroves. But due to human intervention the life of this creek is in danger. So for the purpose of creating awareness about the Thane creek among the students, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal organized various activities on the occasion of World Wetland Day. For more details see annexure on page 5.
Participants in the boat safari along the Thane Creek. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal Organised Thane Khadi Safari at Airoli on the occasion of World Wetland Day. It was organized jointly with Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Center on 30th January 2019. In this Khadi Safari birds like Arctic turn, Seagulls, Flamingos, Sandpiper, Gray heron were observed. Some of the journalists from Thane were participated in this safari. Total 11 people including some of the journalists from Thane were participated. Students of Shreeram Vidyamandir, Thane.

Students and teachers participating in the nature trails organised by PDM. Paryavaranshala organised a nature trail on 25th Jan 2019 at Dattaji Salavi Udyan, Thane. Total 35 students of Dnyanasadhana vidyaniketan School had participated in the nature trail. Mrs. Pournima shirgaonkar was the resource person. She gave information of nearly 50 plants, their morphological characters and also medicinal uses like All spice, Rudraksha, Green Champa, Vilayati Chinch, Kavathi Chafa, Kanchan, Bel, Apta, all types of Bamboo, Chinch , Arjuna, Bahava, Chitrak, Kailaspati, Vavala, Tamhan, Vekhand , Murudsheng, Palas, Undi, Surangi, Ritha, Kavat etc. All students enjoyed this natural classroom. Ms. Chitra Mhaske was the coordinator for nature Trail. Another Nature trail was organised at Manpada Nisarga Parichay Kendra , Thane on 20 th January .Mr Ajit Joshi & Mr. Shreeharsh Nitsure (Birders) were the experts for the trail. Ms. Chitra Mhaske and Ms. Nishtha Patil coordinated the nature trail. Total 25 people participated.The experts explained nicely many different facts about birds and their Habitat. Birds ike Common chip chap, Kite, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Shikra, Greater Coucal (Bhardvaj), Drongo, Babler ,Palm Swift, Sun birds, Parakeets , Long Tail shrike were located.
Bird Trail at Gandhari, Kalyan PDM conducted Nature Trail on Migratory Birds on 13th January at Gandhari, Kalyan.. Many winter visitors were observed. Our expert Mr Kuldip Mhatre (an avid birder) guided the new observers well and created an understanding towards this avian fauna. In spite of urbanization and encroachment at this location; it was still incredible to find 35 species of birds like Purple Heron, Red naped Ibis, Siberian stonechat, Bluethroat etc.

Green Lovers Club Vrukshavalli – 2019 Vrukshavalli 2019 the exhibition of trees, flowers , fruits and vegetables were Displayed during the period from 10 January to 13 January 2019 , Which was organized by Thane Municipal Corporation (Horticulture Department and Tree Authority). In this exhibition Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's Green Lover's Club participated in the section of Miniature Landscape and they have won the third prize. On the topic of” Waste out of Best”, a beautifully designed garden was built using the waste products in the house. More then 25,000 people visited this garden and appreciated the work. Shri. Eknath Shinde (Health Minister, Maharashtra), Mr. Santosh Juvekar (Cine actor), Shri. Naresh Mhaske (Shivsena Thane District Chief, House Leader TMC), Dr. Madhuri Pajavar (Principal, B.N.Bandodkar College) were some of the important dignitaries who visited the landscape garden and motivated the participants. This event coordinated by Paryavaran shala members. Ms. Pornima Shirgaonkar also took a trail of all green lovers members and visited all the stalls. GLC members got innovative ideas of flower decoration, landscape, flower arrangement etc. Duringtrail Pournima showed and gave information of various medicinal plants, aromatic plants, flowering and ornamental plants. It was nice experience for all of them.

Green Shoppe conducted two exhibitions in the month of Janurary. One at Vrukshavalli in Thane on the Raymond Grounds. Green Shoppe has been participating in this exhibition for the 5th year and now most of the visitors and clients are aware of the shoppe's activities and also help spread the word around and get new customers to the stall. This is very encouraging for shoppe and also helps in meeting its objectives of building associations rather than only selling products. We wish to place on record our special thanks to Mr. Makarand Dadhe of the Parvayavaran Shala GLC group member who also helped as a volunteer at the stall. Totally we are proud to say more than 2000 visitors paid a visit to the stall and also bought products. The second exhibition was during the Nisarg Mela event organized by the Dombivli office on the 17th of Jan. Once again many parents and teachers visited the stall and participating children too showed keen interest in understanding the products. Presently Shoppe is busy with the natural colours for Holi. We have two sets one the Rang Dulhar from Eco exist and the other set a local one. Both the sets are natural and are lab tested for the toxicity to the skin and the environment and are completely safe.
