Today is the day when Warren rolls out the welcome mat for Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and Mr Dennis Wilson.

The Governor and Mr Wilson are in the region this week, and will visit Warren today directly from their scheduled stops in Narromine and Trangie yesterday.

In Warren, the Governor and Mr Wilson will visit Australian Food and Fibre, and the Warren Museum and Art Gallery, and attend a meeting of the Warren Shire Council attended by the mayor, staff and councillors. They will also tour the community, looking at various facilities.

Ahead of her visit, the Governor said, “Dennis and I are looking forward to meeting people, support agencies, cultural organisations and primary producers who contribute to this region, known for its strong communities, natural resources, rich history and ambitions for the future.”

The Governor’s tour will also visit Coonamble, Warrumbungle, Coonabarabran and Tooraweenah, concluding on Saturday, June 21.

The Warren Star will provide a report on the Governor’s visit in next week’s issue.

Mother Nature was certainly looking out for the hardworking volunteers at the Warren Pastoral and Agricultural Association (WPAA) last weekend, turning on spectacular weather for their annual Warren Show.

Locals and visitors alike took advantage of the great weather and the cheap-aschips gold coin entry fee to get out and support their local show.

The Warren Showground and Racecourse was once again transformed into a place celebrating local talent across a broad spectrum of agricultural and equestrian practice, cooking, creative arts, and local business, while providing at times rib-cracking entertainment.

Events included the everpopular and extremely professional quick shear, tug of war, lawn mower races, junior judging, emergency service and machinery displays, the return of the pet show, the baby show, whip-cracking, wife-carrying and more, while wowing the kids and the

The pavilion was packed with the creative efforts of local school children, art and crafters, cooks, flower and vege growers.

One of the popular exhibits was the Live Reptile Displays, which attracted large crowds. “Montana was walking around presenting prizes, including the quick shear ribbon,” she added.

The Macquarie Cotton Growers’ barbecue, staffed by a rolling series of volunteers all day long, and the proceeds of which help WPAA fund the Warren Show, offered an alternative to other Show fare on offer, and by all reports, sold everything they had.

The ever-popular fireworks rounded out a great day and a wonderful Warren Show. Audrey was keen to thank all the participants, but especially the sponsors whose support makes the event possible.

“I’d like to just give a big shout out to the sponsors. I can’t name them all because there’s too many, but they enable us to have a variety of entertainment and it helps pay for the cost of running the show, like insurance, security etc,” Audrey said.

“But it also it’s a lovely way for local businesses to be involved in a community event. We definitely couldn’t do it without them!” she concluded.

Community rallies Sausage sizzle christens new Calara House barbie with BBB fundraiser

By SHARON BONTHUYS The Warren horse-sports community will rally this weekend to support one of their own in need when the Boots, Barrels and Bending fundraising event is staged at the Warren Showground and Campdraft Arena.

Sunday’s event will raise funds to assist a member of the community - who the Warren Star has elected not to name - who is facing a serious health battle.

The day-long event will feature barrel racing and bending events for juniors, open age group, and teams, as well as events for “two-legged” competitors racing alone and in teams.

It’s free to attend and watch, but competitors, including the “two-legged” variety, will pay to participate.

An all-day canteen will run and

there will be face painting, raffles and more.

All funds raised from the event will support the local person in need and their family.

The Warren Star spoke to one of the organisers, Susi Simmons, about the event.

Susi said the fundraising recipient and her family are heavily involved in local horse sports, including barrel racing and bending. Local groups including the Warren Pony Club and Central West Riding Club were quick to lend their support when the event was announced.

“Everyone just gets together when things like this happen,” Susi said.

“Everyone heard about it and just said, ‘I can do this. I can help you with this.’ It’s amazing,” she concluded.

By DAVID DIXON A delicious barbecue was hosted last Friday by Warren Health Action Committee (WHAC) members and local Rotarians, to provide lunch for residents, family members, and staff at Warren’s aged care facility, Calara House.

Helping christen the facility’s new cooker, made possible through a grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), everyone thoroughly enjoyed their lunch from all reports, Warren Health Action Committee Chair, Rod Sandell said.

“This new electric barbecue was made possible through grant funding from the FRRR,” Rod revealed.

The Warren Star has previously reported on the purchase of the new barbecue and the subsequent delight of Ca-

lara House residents.

“With a small amount of funds left over, we were given permission by FRRR to purchase food for the luncheon,” Rod added.

Everything proved A-OK with the new outdoor utility, with many more memorable barbecues planned for the years ahead, Rod explained.

“The committee is pleased to report that the barbecue was a pleasure to use, and extremely efficient. It is intended for use by staff and family members of residents, plus luncheons involving Rotary and WHAC members, at times arranged to suit,” he said.

“Warren Health Action Committee wishes to thank staff at Warren MPS for their assistance in making this day happen. We look forward to hosting future events,” he concluded.

Councils approached nationwide to help reduce ‘period poverty’ Page 4 - THE WARREN STAR, Wednesday, June 18, 2025

By SHARON BONTHUYS A national nonprofit organisation supporting vulnerable women, girls and those who menstruate recently contacted every mayor and councillor across Australia, calling on them to take meaningful action on ‘period poverty’.

The bold step by Share the Dignity was taken to provide local government with the results of the charity’s 2024 Bloody Big Survey highlighting how period poverty is impacting Australian women, girls and those who menstruate in Australian communities.

LGAs have also been encouraged to join the charity’s Council Cares program, a grassroots initiative the organisation believes will equip councils with “practical tools to promote menstrual equity.”

The results of the national survey are concerning, with 64 per cent of respondents struggling to afford period products, 65 per cent indicating they were unprepared for their fi rst period, and 56 per cent reporting they have missed work due to their period.

Of the 314 local government areas (LGAs) featured in the survey results, 63 are in NSW and include Dubbo Regional Council and Orange City Council.

Results for other communities in the region in Gilgandra, Narromine, Warren and Bogan LGAs were not featured in the survey, for one simple, and sadly important reason.

“It’s because there were not enough respondents in [those areas], which itself highlights a need for greater awareness and engagement in the community,” a spokesperson for Share the Dignity told this journalist.

The Council Cares program invites councils to provide free access to period products such as by installing Dignity Vending Machines in public spaces and support menstrual education via Share the Dignity’s Education Hub. It also encourages the introduction of rebates for reusable period products like menstrual cups and period underwear.

Share the Dignity founder and managing director Rochelle Courtenay said she hopes to see councils take part in the initiative and start improving menstrual equity in their community before the next Bloody Big Survey takes place in 2027.

“Everyone deserves the right to manage their period with dignity, no matter their postcode,” Ms Courtenay said.

“By giving councils Bloody Big Survey data from their own community, we’re encouraging councils to make informed, compassionate decisions that change lives.”

The charity has reportedly received 142 responses from the 4649 mayors and councillors contacted about this issue in recent weeks.

Share the Dignity encourages local communities to contact their councils to fi nd out more about what they are doing locally in this space, and to join the program if not already involved.

No figures for Warren in period survey

Share the Dignity has contacted every mayor and councillor in Australia asking them to join its Council Cares Program that would help reduce period poverty.

Warren local government area was one of those for whom there were no survey results listed in the Share the Dignity 2024 Bloody Big Survey, which a charity spokesperson said “highlights a need for greater awareness and engagement in the community.”

This masthead contacted the Warren Shire Council to find out if it is participating in the program or intends to join, and what the organisation might otherwise be doing in this space to support vulnerable women, girls and people who menstruate.

A council spokesperson provided the following response.

“Warren Shire Council has shared the information with their Interagency group, which includes over 100 services/agencies, in support of the program,” the spokesperson said.

By SHARON BONTHUYS Warren is set to enjoy a powerhouse musical and choral performance later this month when Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) take their Big Sky Orchestra on the road to Far West NSW, featuring a world premiere of a specially commissioned composition honouring 100 years of specialist child development service, Royal Far West.

SYO’s Big Sky Tour kicks off on Saturday, June 28, in Gulgong before travelling to Warren on Sunday, June 29, where attendees will enjoy magical entertainment by SYO’s talented young musicians performing a diverse program alongside some very excited local musical and choral talent, according to Warren Chamber Music Festival director, Frances Evans.

“It is a great pleasure to soon have a full symphony

orchestra in Warren - a rare but special opportunity,” Frances said.

“The SYO has been established for over 50 years, becoming Australia’s premier youth orchestra. Some of these musicians are on the cusp of breaking into their serious years of conservatorium music learning, to embark on a professional career as musicians,” she explained.

“The SING Warren choir and Cantando Sorelle choir from Dubbo are privileged to perform alongside the orchestra for two works. Our choir has performed with many chamber ensembles and pianists over the past four years - but not yet with a symphony orchestra. It is a unique experience indeed and everyone in the choir is looking forward to it,” Frances added.

“SYO expressed a desire to make their performance meaningful and authentical-

ly Warren. So a collaboration with Warraan Widji Arts to acknowledge the Country on which they will perform was absolutely necessary and appropriate. It will be so wonderful to see the youth performers of Warraan Widji Arts perform on the day,” she said.

A spokesperson for Warraan Widji Arts told the Warren Star that its youth performers will be sharing the significance of Wayilwan language reawakening in Warren through performing the Wayilwan “Emu in the Sky” story through dance and with language.

“Wayilwan is classified as a critically endangered language by UNESCO,” the spokesperson explained.

“Warraan Widji Arts is working towards increasing accessibility and sustainability of Wayilwan language revitalisation through the arts including through the dance

“It is so important for Warren to have Warraan Widji Arts empowering, reawakening, sharing with and teaching language and culture alongside the Aboriginal youth of Warren.

“This incredible work is worthy of celebration and support and it is thrilling to include this in the concert with the SYO,” the spokesperson concluded.

Concertgoers will also enjoy the world premiere of the choral work, “With Our Feet in the Sand and Our Hearts in The Bush”, celebrating the centenary of Royal Far West.

“The piece has been composed by Andrew Howes, an SYO Alumni and SYO’s current Composer in Residence,” a spokesperson for the SYO said.

“Howes, a Sydney-based composer renowned for his

profound fascination with creating music that derives its artistic intent from the ever-present natural forces of the Australian landscape, brings his unique perspective to this centenary celebration,” they explained.

The tour that brings this significant musical tribute to regional communities across NSW will also travel to Cobar, Bourke, Wilcannia, and end in Broken Hill in a spectacular fashion with the Big Sky Gala at the Civic Centre on July 4.

Tickets for the Warren concert can be obtained online via the SYO website or from the Warren Shire Council for those who prefer to buy their tickets in person. Adults are $15 while children and concession tickets cost $10.

A much-anticipated event on the Warren Show program - the School General Knowledge Quiz - drew strong competition and plenty of enthusiasm from students, parents, and supporters alike.

“It was wonderful to see so many parents and families in the audience encouraging the students and adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the day,” the spokesperson enthused.

“Their support plays an important part in the success of this event,” they added.

Warren enjoyed warm winter weather and clear skies for Saturday’s annual Show put on again by the Warren Pastoral and Agricultural Association, with the event drawing a good crowd to Warren Showground and Racecourse.

It was the fun of the fair with events ranging from the traditional rides and exhibits, to some local specialities, including the photography exhibit in the pavilion, a pet show, quick-shearing competition, and even a wife-carrying Alex Ramsay, Ruth Maxey, Audrey Weston, challenge.

Animals ranged from old familiar favourites, such as labradors, terriers, collies, spaniels, and dachshunds, to guinea pigs, a kid goat, and even native lizards and a slivery, scary, carpet snake!

Winners included for, the “Most Obedient Pet”, won by a young goat in a tutu, “Lucky”, owned by Cassie Church.

The “Most Unusual Pet” went to

Dubbo Street roundabout closed during night works next week

By LOCAL NEWSDESK Transport for NSW (TFNSW) has issued an alert about works that will impact the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Dubbo Street for several evenings next week, starting on Monday, June 23.

Asphalt work will be carried out at the Oxley Highway/Dubbo Street roundabout overnight from dusk until dawn, and is expected to take three nights to complete, weather permitting.

This will impact motorists travelling at night at this location, as the roundabout will be closed during the works and detours will be in place for all vehicles.

TFNSW has indicated light vehicles will detour via Chester Street, Readford Street and Lawson Street. Heavy vehicles will detour via Industrial Access Road.

“For the safety of workers and motorists, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during work hours. Outside work hours the speed limit will return to 60 km/h,” a spokesperson for TFNSW said.

“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control and allow up to five minutes of extra travel time during the work,” they added, thanking motorists for their patience during this time.

Welcome, new Outback Arts engagement officer

By DAVID DIXON Creativity and the fulfillment that this provides is important for everyone, no matter where they are, Miriam (Mim) McKeown believes.

Recently appointed to the newlyrecreated Partnerships and Engagement Officer position for Outback Arts, Coonamble, Mim also covers Warren and other outback districts including Bourke, Brewarrina, Bogan, Cobar, and Walgett.

“I think it’s important as an outlet for all people, a definition of who you are and it makes you feel good,” Mim said.

“A lot of people do it for different reasons, social reasons. In Coonamble we have a great ceramics studio that people love going to,” she added.

Based at the Outback Arts Centre, Coonamble, Mim will play a vital role in facilitating artistic collaborations, supporting regional events and projects, and strengthening relationships between artists, educators, community leaders, and cultural organisations.

The job description, she explained, has expanded from that of the previous position-holder. ”There was a person in the position before me, but my job is going to be a little bit more than the previous job.

“It’s about forming partnerships in our region to see what people need in schools, in the arts, and in the community,” Mim explained.

Originally from Bathurst, she married local electrical contractor and farmer, Chris McKeown, and made her life locally to raise a family.

Her work as a Student Learning Support Officer (SLSO) at the local primary school for the past 10 years has seen her actively involved in education and youth development.

Outside of work, Mim has also consistently volunteered her time on numerous community committees and local initiatives, demonstrating commitment to regional wellbeing and connection.

Now, as she steps into her new role at Outback Arts, Mim is looking forward to further deepening those connections, this time through arts, culture, and collaboration.

“I’m super-excited to get out and about and start meeting people and forming connections; especially to meet and work with the amazingly talented people who live and create in our outback regions,” Mim said.

“I look forward to being a part of the many wonderful opportunities that lie ahead and forming lasting partnerships

By BRYSON LUFF After two successive games where they had draws against Narromine and Warren, Coonamble Bears finally returned to the winners list when they came home flying against Cobar Roosters in the last quarter of their Christie and Hood Castlereagh League Round Seven clash, played in front of their faithful Coonamble Sportsground crowd on Saturday.

Down 18-22 at the half-time break, and then looking at a 10-point deficit after Cobar half-back Thomas Plater scored his third try which he then converted with just 20 minutes to go, the Bears stormed home, racing in for tries in the 65th, 72nd and 78th minutes.

Although only one of these was converted, a Jack Kelly field goal was also thrown in, allowing the Red-and-Blacks to

come away with a 33-28 victory that keeps them well and truly in the hunt for a semi-final berth at the half-way mark in the competition.

The win also sets-up an enticing round eight clash against Coonabarabran at Coonabarabran, with the Unicorns currently sitting in second position on the ladder, having experienced only one loss so far in season 2025.

They continued this good form when they got over the top of the Dunedoo Swans at Dunedoo last Saturday after leading 24-14 at half-time. However, a converted try to the Swans after the break, then led to the Unicorns clicking into gear and going on to score four unanswered tries, all converted, to take the game handily by 48-20.

In the “Battle of the Dogs” played-out at Gulgong’s Billy Dunn Oval, the Bull Ter-

riers won a hard-fought battle with the Warren Bulldogs, who, not withstanding, put in a spirited effort in the second half of the game after trailing 26-6 when the sides troopedoff for oranges.

The visitors then came-out firing after the break and had trimmed 12 points off the lead to make the score 26-18, before Gulgong stemmed the flow with a try themselves to have the scoreboard reading 30-18 in their favour.

However, the Bulldogs were not going away, and led by a three-try effort to their lock, Elias Kennedy, it was most certainly a matter of game-on, In the end, though, they went down 36-30 in a nailbiter.

After a couple of impressive efforts over the past two weeks, the Bulldogs will be looking forward to hosting Dunedoo next Saturday as they search for their first win for the season.

At Baradine, the Narromine Jets kept the Magpies winless and scoreless when they notched up 64 points to register a big win.

Warren scores gutsy away win in tag thriller

By DALLAS REEVES A gutsy away win has kept Warren in “touch” with the top three in the 2025 Castlereagh Ladies League Tag competition.

Warren was able to hold on for a 16-14 league tag success against Gulgong at Gulgong on Saturday, despite being under some adversity.

This included Bulldogs League Tag coach, Jason Boyd revealed, that his side only had 11 fit players for most of the contest.

The team went to Gulgong with 12 players, but injury reduced the side to the bare minimum, and they were even down to 10 players for a 10-minute period.

Given the circumstances, he was delighted with Warren’s defence in the four-tries-to-three win.

“It was excellent to see, the side really come together,” Boyd said.

“They were pretty well tuckered but kept going. Our defence was exemplary… there was some pretty dedicated efforts by quite a few of the girls,” he added.

Among the best for the Bulldogs, Harmonie Morris (centre) and Katina Darcy (halfback), left Gulgong with a few bruises after desperate dives to make try-saving tags.

Heidi Cosgrove and Taylah Reid on the wings also both impressed defensively.

ing dummy-half, while Morris also crossed and Kaitlyn Brown scored a try from a good grubber kick.

While technically in sixth place, Warren has a 4-3 win-loss record and sits just one win away from third in the tag competition.

Warren will meet one of the top three sides in Dunedoo when it hosts the Swanettes this Saturday at Victoria Oval, and Coach Boyd doesn’t see any need to change too much ahead of that match.

“Just the same as we’ve been doing,” he said.

“Being a home game hopefully our numbers won’t be as slim, which will give us that allows us to make the changes and keep the girls fresh so that will be a big advantage.”

He also said while he understands people have numerous commitments, getting people to training this week is crucial.

It was a solid day all round for the Bulldogs, with the ever-improving men’s first grade side scoring its highest total for the season so far in a 36-30 loss to third-placed Gulgong.

Fresh off a 26-all draw against Coonamble before the June long weekend, the Bulldogs (eighth, one draw, five losses) will be optimistic against seventh-placed Dunedoo (two wins, five losses) at home in the upcoming Men’s First Grade contest.

Pumas tested but prevail against physical Barbarians

By DALLAS REEVES Warren was content with a 30-nil shut-out of the physical Bourke and Brewarrina Barbarians in Western Plains Rugby Union action at Victoria Oval, Warren on Saturday, June 14.

The Pumas scored fivetries-to-zero and had five individual try-scorers cross once each in an impressive round five performance.

Pumas president and tight-head prop Jack Kelly said the Bourke and Brewarrina combined side was a difficult opponent.

Warren also wanted to impress after dropping only first game of the season in round four when Nyngan’s Bogan Bulls defeated its neighbour the Pumas 20-15 at Nyngan.

“I don’t think the score reflected the physicality of the contest,” Kelly said of the Pumas-Barbarians clash.

“Bre (Bourke) and Nyngan always bring the physicality.

“We started strong … (but) probably didn’t finish how he would like, but keeping them to nil was the positive we take away the most from it.

“To not let any scores through was fantastic … we

wanted to make a statement after that (first) loss to Nyngan. Pretty happy with how it finished up.”

Pumas vice-president Harry Hailstone added he was impressed with the Barbarians, who have been improving since coming together from the former separate Bourke and Brewarrina teams.

“They are a club that have had their moments of success, but have always had a few blow-out scores as well,” he said.

“But they were good on the weekend and have been getting better every year.

“We were pretty worried after they had a close loss against (leaders) Nyngan (just losing 17-13 to the undefeated Nyngan at Brewarrina in round three).

“Credit to a lot of younger players who stepped up and played out of their skin on the weekend to show they have earned their spot in the team.”

Warren’s Tri Tag side went down 31-nil to the Bourke Ewes in the women’s fixture.

The positive for Warren was that it was the least amount of points the side had conceded in 2025 and also the equal smallest losing margin (after going down 36-5 to Coonamble in round one).

With the regular season at the half-way point for both

grades (five games down, five to go) Hailstone believes if the Warren ladies can continue to build numbers at training and continuity, they can improve.

“They’re definitely showing improvement,” Hailstone said of the Tri Tag side.

“They are having good little stints in the game. A few mistakes let them down, and they started to understand that on the weekend.”

In further news, Jack Kelly has been named in the Country Cockatoos’ trainon opens squad and emerging fullback Will Johnson has been selected in the Cockatoos’ colts train-on squad.

It is wonderful news for the small Warren to be represented at the elite level of NSW Country Rugby Union in both train-on squads that feature the best players from across the state outside of Sydney.

“We were both pretty surprised and happy,” Kelly said.

Hunt also revealed last month how he is he living in share accommodation, known as the “Knights House”.

The property is used for new players, with young footballers from from as far away as Townsville, Cairns, New Zealand and many other far-flung centres also living there.

“It’s not too busy… a bit more of a country town. A lot bigger than Warren, but it’s good. I like the beaches, weather is not too bad, people are friendly,” Hunt told the Warren Star about Newcastle after his round one debut.

Reaching his goals kept him in Newcastle after moving to the city upon fi nishing Year 12 at Warren Central School in late 2023.

“I always had in my mind that I’d get there one day (NRL)… that was my mindset,” he last month said on making his NRL debut.

Asked if there was one Knight he was really looking forward to playing with on his debut, which came in a 28-6 loss to Parramatta in round 11 on May 16, the answer came back as Dane Gagai, who celebrated his 300th NRL debut on the same night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“Gags (Gagai) is a real leader… how he leads the team and talks about people and how they’ve got your back,” Hunt said last month.

“It’s quite surreal when you are out there with him. I’m just grateful I got the chance to grow out there and crack on with them.”

Hunt will be cracking on as a Knight for at least another two-and-a-half seasons, with the footy fans of Warren no doubt cheering him on every step of Fletcher Hunt playing his fifth NRL game against the club he once supported, the Sydney Roosters. Hunt has re-signed with Newcastle until the end of the 2027 season. the way!

By THE DIRTY BIRDIE Despite the chilly winter conditions and the busy lead up to the local Warren Show, nine dedicated ladies took to the course last Wednesday to contest the Suemi Boyd’s Trophy Day. Suemi - much-loved and affectionately known as our “little pocket rocket” - may now reside in a nursing home, but her spirit and legacy remain a cherished part of our golfing community. A passionate golfer in her day, Suemi was known for her energy, warmth, wit, and fierce love of the game.

cial day. The beautiful prizes she donated were a true reflection of the love and respect she holds for her mum and the game her mother adored.

Numbers may have been down due to the cold snap and show preparations, but the camaraderie, laughter, and shared memories made the day a very special one. Suemi would no doubt be proud that her name lives on in such a meaningful way, among friends and on the fairways she loved.

In results, Lorraine Faulkner-Smith won the day (on a count-back) from Rhonda Darcy, both scoring 37 and in top form with their golf, while, coming in third, was Val Soulsby.

Nearest-to-the-pins (NTP) were, on the fourth, Chris

Trudgett; the 16th, Rob Downey; and on the 18th, Deb Kentwell. Golf balls went to Lorraine, Rhonda, Val, Jamie Boyd, Faye Noonan, and Pook Austin.

In contrast to earlier in the week, a beautiful winter’s day greeted ladies for Saturday’s golf, the June Medal, with clear skies and sunshine making for perfect playing conditions. Although numbers were again down, no doubt due to Show Day commitments, eight keen golfers took to the course, enjoying the crisp air and friendly competition.

Despite the smaller field, spirits were high, and the course was once again in immaculate condition, thanks to the ongoing efforts of our greens staff.

son brought in the winning score of 71, second spot went to Chris Tilley on 74, and Val Soulsby was third with 75.

Sandy Moore won the scratch (on a count-back) from Chris Tilley, both on 93. NTP on the 13th was Sandy.

Five of Warren’s finest lady golfers also took on the Dubbo Ladies Golf team on Friday to represent our club in the Pennants, coming out victorious after a stunning 5–0 clean sweep.

In brisk, cool conditions with a steady wind adding an extra challenge, the Warren ladies held their nerve and rose to the occasion with skill, focus, and true team spirit.

Each player delivered a standout performance, showcasing not only individual talent but also the strength and depth of

Warren’s women’s golf.

A 5-0 win against such a big club is no easy feat; in fact, it’s a mighty achievement that reflects the dedication, preparation, and sportsmanship of these players. Congrats to the team of Deb Kentwell, Sandy Moore, Val Soulsby, Pook Austin, and Lorraine FaulknerSmith on a fantastic result that makes the whole club proud.

Upcoming events on Wednesday includes a SPAR Trophy day, an 18- Hole Stableford, and on the weekend, a Mixed Foursome‘s championships over 36-holes. Nominations in with a “High Tea”, please!

The Warren Joinery and Hardware Trophy Day, a 4BBB Invitation and an Individual event is also on this weekend.

Bianca Fuller does us proud at national trials

By DALLAS REEVES Determination has paid off for Warren rugby league prodigy Fletcher Hunt, with the Newcastle Knights last week announcing the talented utility has been re-signed for a further two seasons.

This means that Hunt will be a Newcastle Knight until the end of the 2027 season after agreeing to terms recently.

The official media release on the Knights’ website stated: “The new deal includes immediate elevation to a NRL development contract for 2025 and 2026, along with promotion to the club’s Top 30 in season 2027, rewarding his hard work and continuing the rapid rise of Knights player number 359.”

Newcastle Knights head of recruitment, Peter O’Sullivan, said Hunt has earned this deal.

“Fletcher’s hard work and competitive nature has earned the respect of his team-mates and staff, this contract upgrade and extension is a fitting reward,” O’Sullivan said.

“It is remarkable how quickly he has established himself in just one year in our system. This is quite unique for such a young player, especially coming from a small country area,” he added.

The young Warren star’s ability to fi ll in for a number of positions told in his favour, O’Sullivan revealed.

“He has great utility value; he can play anywhere in the backline and lock at a pinch if required, making him an ideal utility moving forward.

“We are thrilled with Fletcher’s development and delighted he will be a Newcastle Knight for at least the next three seasons.”

The news continues the rapid rise for the 19-year-old, who has now played five NRL matches and covered three positions after starting at fullback in Saturday night’s 12-8 loss to the Sydney Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium.

By LOCAL NEWSDESK Former Warren Amateur Swimming Club member, Bianca Fuller, has done the town proud, fi nishing eighth in the fi nal of the 200-metre breaststroke at the 2025 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide last week.

Fuller, who also compet-

ed in Dubbo with Dubbo City Swimtech Swimming Club and attended Kinross Wolaroi at Orange, swam a time of two minutes, 31 seconds and 56 hundredths of a second in the fi nal (2:31.56) last Friday, June 13, at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Ella Ramsay won the

200m breaststroke fi nal in 2:23.92 with Tara Kinder (2:24.61) in second place and Hayley Mackinder (2:27.93) in third place.

Ramsay and Mackinder both beat the cut-off time of 2:25.91 to meet Swimming Australia’s designated qualifying mark to progress to the World Championships.

Fuller swam a time of 2:33.23 in the pre-lims to qualify for the fi nal, and also had a seed time of 2:31.89, so her performance in the fi nal was outstanding.

The 20-year-old is now a member of the Cruiz Swim Club in Canberra, competing for Cruiz at the National Trials.
