Callum shines in training awards By SHARON BONTHUYS Narromine High School Captain Callum Hutchison did his school, family and community proud last week as one of three fi nalists in the SchoolBased Apprentice/Trainee of the Year category of the 2025 Western NSW Regional Training Awards. While he didn’t walk away with the top gong at the event in Orange on June 12, Callum is already a winner in many eyes as he continues to smash his personal and professional goals while completing his final year of formal schooling. As part of his studies, Callum has quietly been completing a Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation, working as a coach/sports trainee for Creating Chances, an organisation that empowers youth through sport. Callum is grateful to Creating Chances for the many opportunities it has made available to him, including a trip to France last year to attend Festival24 with 500 other young

people from around the world. “Creating Chances has built my confidence, my life skills, and day to day skills,” Callum told the Narromine Star ahead of the Regional Training Awards. “It’s all been really helpful for my future and helped me find a career path as well,” he added. As part of his vocational studies at Narromine High, Callum coaches rugby for youth and younger children during and after school, and enjoys helping to build their skills in communication, resilience and teamwork. Post-high school, Callum hopes to pursue his passion for helping others and study social work at university. “I’d like to carry on my sport and youth work, and any sort of social work,” he added. Narromine High’s Career Advisor Jan Davison said the school is thrilled with Callum’s nomination for the Regional Training Awards. Continued page 12
