SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND

A landscape shaped by extremes, experienced in perfect balance

At the far edge of the world, where land surrenders to the Southern Ocean, New Zealand’s South Island unfolds as a landscape of pristine grandeur. Vast, cinematic, and elemental, it is a place where every horizon feels freshly painted, where the silence between peaks and fjords hums with a quiet kind of awe. Here, nature takes centre stage. The Southern Alps carve a jagged spine through the island, their snow-dusted summits mirrored in glassy lakes like Wakatipu and Tekapo. Fiordland’s mist-draped inlets stretch deep and still, their sheer cliffs veiled in waterfalls that appear and vanish with the light. On the West Coast, glaciers edge down through rainforest valleys, ancient and untamed, while along the east, golden vineyards and lavender fields bask in long, sunlit afternoons. Each turn feels like a shift in rhythm, from wild to serene, from raw to refined.

Life here moves at its own pace. Mornings might begin with a lakeside hike or a helicopter flight over Milford Sound, and drift easily into vineyard lunches among Central Otago vines or evenings in lodges where firelight dances across timber and stone. The South Island’s hospitality is grounded in authenticity, with crisp linens, warm conversation, and cuisine that honours the land: foraged herbs, local meat products, freshly caught seafood, and wines that reflect the purity of their terroir. Yet beyond its beauty lies something more enduring, a sense of balance, of vastness paired with intimacy. You could spend a day tracing wild coastlines where seals and penguins thrive, and another in Queenstown’s vibrant hum of adventure and art. Wellness retreats, thermal springs, and remote luxury lodges offer stillness to counter the island’s dramatic pulse.

The South Island isn’t merely a destination, but rather an awakening. A reminder that luxury can be found not just in design or detail, but in the rare privilege of stillness, space, and the feeling of being entirely, beautifully small against the sweep of nature’s grand design.

Navi Mumbai International Airport marks a new era in Indian aviation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), India’s largest greenfield airport project developed across 1,160 hectares, which will operate alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, easing congestion and positioning Mumbai among global cities with multiple international airports. The first phase features one runway and a single terminal capable of handling 20 million passengers annually, with operations expected to begin by December 2025. Designed in the shape of a lotus, the terminal will include 66 check-in counters, 22 self-baggage drop stations, 29 aerobridges, and 10 bus-boarding gates. The airport will manage 20–22 flights per hour initially, scaling up in the following year. Equipped with 5G networks, IoT-enabled systems, and Digi Yatra processing, NMIA integrates sustainability with innovation, featuring automated cargo facilities, storage for sustainable aviation fuel, and an Automated People Mover system. The DGCA granted its aerodrome licence on September 30, 2025. With its scale and innovation, NMIA positions Mumbai among the world’s leading aviation hubs.

This strategy underscores Hilton’s response to rising demand for distinctive, experiencedriven stays in the Asia Pacific. By pairing local character with global standards, Hilton is positioning itself to lead in the region’s evolving luxury and lifestyle hospitality landscape.

A New Era Of Exclusivity

Why private member-only clubs are booming

Luxury hospitality is undergoing a subtle but significant shift. For today’s discerning elite, it’s no longer enough to have a marble-clad suite or a Michelin-starred menu; the real luxury lies in spaces that feel personal, private, and purposeful. Private member-only clubs have become sanctuaries where experiences are curated to the individual, and where being understood matters more than being seen.

The biggest draw is personalisation. These clubs remember your preferences, from your favourite wine to your wellness routine, creating a sense of belonging that hotels often struggle to replicate. Alongside this is the promise of privacy. In a world where public exposure feels relentless, members value environments where they can retreat from cameras, chatter, and the noise of social media. Privacy here is not about secrecy but about choice: the ability to control who sees you and when.

Another key reason for their popularity is the community they foster. These clubs gather people with shared tastes

and interests, creating opportunities for meaningful connections, conversations, and collaborations. Events and experiences are designed to enrich members’ lives, whether through curated cultural programs, intimate performances, or exclusive tastings, making every visit feel purposeful rather than transactional. The emphasis has shifted from passive consumption of luxury to immersive engagement that leaves a lasting impression. Finally, these spaces offer something increasingly rare: stability and freedom. In a world marked by volatility and rigid schedules, private clubs promise safety, comfort, and flexibility. They are refuges where well-being is prioritised, service feels intuitive, and time belongs to the member rather than the other way around. The ultimate appeal is intangible, a blend of belonging, discretion, and tailored experience that transforms a simple night out or stay into something deeply personal. For those who can afford it, the new definition of luxury is not just what you have, but how exclusively and meaningfully you experience it.

Conscious Indulgence

Luxury travel is evolving into an experience where sustainability, authenticity, and refinement converge, creating journeys that feel purposeful as well as indulgent

Luxury travel once meant grandiosity for its own sake, but today’s discerning traveller seeks something more. An experience that delivers on both exceptional quality as well as genuine value. In an era where climate awareness, social responsibility, and mindful spending matter, luxury is no longer about excess alone. It is about authenticity, sustainability, and experiences that enrich both traveller and destination.

One of the defining shifts is toward travel that gives back. Ultra-luxury villas now champion regenerative design: solarpowered amenities, rainwater harvesting, and locally sourced materials. Fine lodges in remote regions involve indigenous communities in their operations, in terms of guides, food sourcing, and cultural sharing, so guests gain insight, and locals gain a

livelihood. The value is measured not only in plush furnishings or panoramic views, but in ethical practices, transparent supply chains, and minimal environmental footprint.

Another thread running through valuedriven luxury is experiential richness. Instead of passive indulgence, travellers want participation, whether it’s cooking local dishes with master chefs, trekking with conservation experts, vineyard tours that emphasise biodynamics, or immersive artistic residencies. These experiences elevate travel from sightseeing to a state of connection. They also justify the luxury pricing because the memory, insight, and personal transformation far outweigh mere comfort.

Sustainability in luxury also extends to mindful consumption. High-quality travel

operators focus on reducing waste. They opt for refillable bath amenities, remaining committed to low-waste dining and sourcing local produce over imported goods. Many luxury hotels now publish carbon-reduction targets and offer guests optional offset contributions. Luggage-light policies, slower transport options to reduce air miles, and multi-generational travel packages that concentrate on time over speed are all part of this evolution.

Value-driven luxury does not compromise, but rather it refines. It manages to balance grandeur with conscience, extravagance along with ethics, and indulgence imbued with intention. For the modern luxury traveller, true opulence is no longer measured in plushness alone but in purpose, authenticity, and the stories carried home.

EXTRA DAY

KOCHI

Eat, drink, shop, relax

Where spice-laden history, inventive cuisine, and serene backwaters come together in Kochi to create a journey for all senses

From bustling spice markets and inventive cafés to tranquil backwaters and centuries-old churches, Kochi is a city that rewards both curiosity and indulgence. Whether you’re tracing the colonial charm of Fort Kochi, gliding across the emerald backwaters, or sampling dishes perfected over generations, every experience here feels timeless, textured, and distinctly sensory.

Once the heart of the global spice trade, Kochi’s cosmopolitan soul still bears the traces of its layered past; Portuguese, Dutch, Arab, and British influences are woven through its architecture, cuisine, and art. Yet, beneath the postcard beauty lies a modern rhythm: chic cafés humming with conversation, concept stores redefining local craft, and a creative community breathing new life into heritage spaces.

STREETS OF STYLE

Kochi’s retail landscape is a study in contrasts, blending traditional and contemporary elements, as well as local and global influences. Fort Kochi’s cobbled streets wind past colonial bungalows and vibrant boutiques that champion artisanal craftsmanship. Here, you’ll find handwoven cottons, brass jewellery, wood-carved curios, and antiques that whisper stories of seafaring traders.

For those seeking a more cosmopolitan fix, Lulu Mall, one of India’s largest, delivers international brands and fine dining under one sleek roof. Meanwhile, the Marine Drive promenade in Ernakulam blends breezy coastal charm with polished urban convenience. It’s where business travellers often pause for an evening stroll, coffee in hand, as ferries cut across the shimmering water.

Kochi’s markets are a sensory playground. The spice bazaars of Mattancherry overflow with cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and star anise, their aromas lingering in the air like history itself. Local cooperatives and design studios curate handmade coir products, lacquerware, and textiles that carry the essence of Kerala craftsmanship. Shopping in Kochi isn’t a transaction; it’s an immersion into the region’s cultural fabric, effortlessly balancing style and story.

FLAVOURS THAT TELL A STORY

Few cities express their history through food as richly as Kochi. Its culinary identity is a product of centuries of exchange; Arab traders brought spices, the Portuguese introduced bread and wine, and the Dutch influenced baking traditions. The result is a cuisine that feels familiar yet endlessly inventive.

Begin your day at French Toast Café in Fort Kochi, where artisanal breads, berry compotes, and creamy scrambled eggs pair perfectly with locally roasted coffee. Its modern minimalism and friendly bustle make it a favourite among travellers who want to start their day with comfort and craft.

By midday, step into Pandhal Café at David Hall, where a 17th-century Dutch bungalow has been reborn as an airy café and art gallery. Under leafy trees, woodfired pizzas emerge golden from clay ovens, topped with locally grown vegetables, while seasonal salads and house-blend coffee keep the mood languid and indulgent.

As dusk settles, Fusion Bay becomes the perfect culinary finale. Run by an Anglo-

Indian family, this unassuming restaurant pays homage to Kochi’s maritime past with Portuguese-inspired versions of Kerala’s coastal staples. Expect fragrant seafood moilee with coconut milk, tiger prawns simmered in spice, and fluffy appams soaking up the last traces of curry.

Beyond these icons, Kochi’s streets hum with flavours that blur the lines between everyday and extraordinary. Food stalls along Fort Kochi Beach serve catch-ofthe-day fish, lightly spiced and grilled to perfection. Locals queue up for pazham pori (banana fritters), kappa with beef curry, and parottas folded in rhythmic precision. For those seeking ritual over rush, a traditional Kerala sadya, a vegetarian feast of 20plus dishes served on a banana leaf, is an unforgettable indulgence in both taste and tradition.

Even Kochi’s café scene has evolved into something of a cultural statement. Heritage bungalows have been reimagined as creative hubs where coffee meets conversation, and old spice warehouses now house bakeries that scent the air with nutmeg and vanilla.

JOURNEYS BEYOND THE CITY

Kochi offers escapes that feel restorative yet accessible. Glide along the backwaters of Alappuzha on a traditional kettuvallam (houseboat) as kingfishers dart above mirrored waters, or take a short ferry ride to Vypeen Island, where quiet beaches and local seafood shacks await.

If time allows, the hills of Munnar and Wayanad beckon with misty plantations, spice gardens, and serene viewpoints, a scenic weekend retreat from the coastal bustle. Within the city, a sunset cruise along Marine Drive, or simply watching the iconic Chinese fishing nets sway against a tangerine sky, offers moments of quiet reflection.

For history enthusiasts, the Dutch Palace and St. Francis Xavier’s Shrine Church reveal Kochi’s centuries-old layers, colonial architecture, Indo-European frescoes, and centuries of faith intertwined with commerce. Each site feels less like a monument and more like a page from a living story.

ART AND CULTURE IN FOCUS

In recent years, Kochi has emerged as India’s creative capital. The KochiMuziris Biennale, held every two years, transforms the city into a global art stage, drawing creators and connoisseurs from around the world. Colonial-era warehouses become exhibition spaces, while cafes and courtyards buzz with discussions on art,

identity, and design.

Spaces like David Hall Art Café and Pepper House nurture this creative pulse year-round, hosting contemporary art exhibitions, film screenings, and residencies. Beyond modern galleries, Kochi’s performing arts scene remains deeply rooted in tradition. Evenings often unfold with performances, majestic in makeup, costume, and movement or the graceful storytelling of Mohiniyattam dancers.

Workshops in calligraphy, mural art, and pottery offer tactile ways to experience Kerala’s artistry, while local festivals like Onam bring the city alive with floral carpets, boat races, and feasts that blend reverence with revelry. For visitors, the joy lies in the contrasts, one moment you’re sipping espresso beneath contemporary canvases; the next, you’re captivated by an ancient tale retold through dance and drum.

Kochi is a city that defies a singular definition. It’s a port, a gallery, a kitchen, and a stage all at once

THE KOCHI STATE OF MIND

Kochi is a city that defies a singular definition. It’s a port, a gallery, a kitchen, and a stage all at once. Its beauty lies not just in what you see, but in what you feel: the salt-sweet air at dusk, the warmth of a local’s smile, the scent of roasted pepper wafting through the streets.

For the traveller seeking an experience that marries leisure with culture, history with innovation, and flavour with soul, Kochi offers the rare promise of discovery that deepens with every visit. The city continues to surprise, anchored in heritage, yet always evolving, much like the tides that lap its storied shores. Kochi captivates with its seamless blend of flavour, art, and history, where every corner whispers stories steeped in spice and soul.

Japanese cuisine is celebrated worldwide for its precision, aesthetics, and delicate balance of flavours. At the heart of this culinary tradition like sushi, nigiri, and sashimi, each offering a distinct taste experience while showcasing the artistry of Japanese chefs.

Sushi, the most internationally recognised, combines vinegared rice with a variety of ingredients such as raw fish, seafood, vegetables, or even egg. It is more than just food; sushi is a careful composition of textures, colours, and flavours. From the simple maki rolls to the elaborate uramaki or temaki cones, sushi invites diners to appreciate the harmony of taste and visual presentation. The rice is seasoned perfectly, the fish sliced meticulously, and every component is designed to create a balanced bite.

Nigiri takes the sushi experience a step further, emphasising the relationship between rice and fish. A slice of raw fish is pressed atop a small mound of seasoned rice, sometimes

THE ART OF QUIET FLAVOUR

Japanese food is crafted with meticulous care to highlight freshness, simplicity and harmony of flavour

adorned with a touch of wasabi or wrapped in a thin strip of seaweed. Nigiri demands skill, as the chef must achieve the ideal proportion and texture. This form allows the delicate flavour of the fish to shine, highlighting its freshness and quality.

Sashimi, on the other hand, strips the experience down to its purest essence: raw fish or seafood served without rice. It is often accompanied by soy sauce, wasabi, or pickled ginger, allowing diners to savour the nuanced flavours and texture of the seafood alone. Sashimi is a true test of a chef’s knife skills, as each slice must be precise to ensure both taste and presentation are impeccable.

Together, sushi, nigiri, and sashimi reflect the core values of Japanese cuisine: simplicity, freshness, and balance. Whether enjoyed at a high-end omakase counter or a casual sushi bar, these dishes invite diners to engage deeply with Japan’s culinary heritage, appreciating the subtle artistry in every bite.

In the spirit of Japan

Japan’s drinks reflect tradition, craftsmanship, and elegance

Japan’s beverage culture is as rich and refined as its cuisine, offering a diverse spectrum of drinks that range from traditional brews to internationally acclaimed spirits. Among the most celebrated are sake, soju, Japanese whiskey, and umeshu, each with its own history, production method, and unique flavour profile.

Sake, often referred to as nihonshu in Japan, is a rice wine with roots stretching back over a millennium. Crafted through a meticulous fermentation process, sake can range from light and floral to rich and fullbodied, depending on the rice variety and brewing technique. Served chilled, at room temperature, or warmed, it is versatile enough to accompany a variety of

Japanese dishes while also being enjoyed as a standalone drink.

Soju, though originating in Korea, has found popularity in Japan, particularly in casual dining and izakaya culture. This distilled spirit is smooth, slightly sweet, and typically lower in alcohol than whiskey, making it a social drink that complements shared meals. Its subtle taste allows it to be consumed neat, on the rocks, or mixed with sodas and juices for cocktails.

Japanese whiskey has garnered global acclaim for its refined taste and meticulous production. Inspired by Scottish traditions but with uniquely Japanese attention to detail, Japanese whiskey often emphasizes harmony, subtlety, and balance. Notes of honey, fruit, and smoke combine to create

a sipping experience that can be enjoyed neat, on ice, or in cocktails.

Umeshu, or Japanese plum wine, offers a sweeter alternative. Made by steeping ume plums in alcohol and sugar, umeshu is aromatic, fruity, and slightly tangy. It is typically served chilled, over ice, or in cocktails, providing a refreshing complement to both savoury dishes and desserts.

From the ceremonial traditions surrounding sake to the global prestige of Japanese whiskey, each drink tells a story of patience, refinement, and cultural pride. Paired with the country’s iconic cuisine, these drinks create a complete sensory experience that reflects the spirit of Japanese hospitality.

Explore The rise of IV therapy

Anew wave in the wellness and self-care world is gaining traction: IV drip lounges. These modern, spa-like spaces offer intravenous vitamin infusions that claim to deliver everything from a boost in energy and hydration to clearer skin and a stronger immune system.

Once the domain of hospitals and elite athletes, IV therapy has now gone mainstream, appealing to anyone eager for a fast and efficient wellness boost. The concept behind these lounges centres on bioavailability, the idea that nutrients introduced directly into the bloodstream are absorbed more efficiently than those taken orally. Clients select from a curated menu of IV ‘cocktails’ with names like Immunity

Boost, Hangover Cure, Glow Drip, or Jet Lag Revival. These blends often include ingredients such as vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, magnesium, zinc, glutathione, and sometimes NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a coenzyme believed to support cellular energy and anti-ageing.

The draw of IV lounges goes beyond just the health benefits. The experience is designed to feel indulgent and restorative. Guests are typically seated in cosy, upscale recliners, often offered blankets, snacks, and streaming entertainment while a licensed nurse or medical professional administers the infusion. Most sessions last between 30 and 60 minutes, making them an easy addition to a lunch break or weekend

routine. These lounges are rapidly expanding in popularity, especially in urban areas and wellness-focused communities.

For many, they represent a new kind of self-care. Whether sought out for recovery, rejuvenation, or just curiosity, IV drips offer a modern take on feeling better, faster. While some medical professionals question the necessity and efficacy of these treatments for generally healthy individuals, the trend shows no signs of slowing. Whether it proves to be a fleeting craze or a lasting feature of wellness culture, the IV drip lounge captures the spirit of today’s health-conscious consumer who is results-driven, experience-focused, and always in search of the next upgrade.

n today’s fast-evolving hospitality landscape, technology has taken centre stage. Artificial intelligence now powers everything from guest profiling and predictive housekeeping to hyper-personalised recommendations. Automation ensures seamless check-ins, robotic concierges answer questions instantly, and smart rooms anticipate a guest’s preferences before they’ve even unpacked. Efficiency, precision, and consistency are the great promises of AI. Even as we embrace these tools, one truth remains unchanged: luxury hospitality is and always will be a profoundly human business.

Hospitality, at its heart, is about creating a sense of belonging. Guests do not simply seek a flawless process; they seek to be seen, understood, and valued. Technology can enable convenience, but it cannot replicate the warmth of a genuine smile, the intuition of a seasoned butler, or the empathy that comes from a heartfelt conversation. In fact, as interactions become more automated, the rarity of authentic human connection makes it even more treasured.

Consider a guest arriving after a long-haul flight. An AI system might already know their room temperature preference, dinner reservation history, or even their choice of pillow. But it takes a human host to notice their fatigue, offer a glass of water,

Authenticity as the ultimate luxury

or sense when silence is more comforting than conversation. These subtle nuances, rooted in emotional intelligence, are what transform a stay from functional to unforgettable.

The future of hospitality will not be defined by machines replacing people, but by people elevated through technology. When thoughtfully integrated, AI can free employees to focus on creating meaningful guest interactions. This synergy allows hoteliers to scale personalisation without losing the individuality that defines luxury service.

At The St. Regis Mumbai, we see this balance play out daily. Smart

systems enhance efficiency, but it is our people, the hosts, sommeliers, experiential concierge team, butlers, who embody the essence of service. Their ability to anticipate unspoken needs, to craft memorable rituals, and to connect with guests in moments both grand and intimate is what keeps our legacy alive in an era of automation. As the world becomes increasingly digitised, travellers are yearning for authentic experiences. They want to engage with stories, traditions, and communities that feel real. A luxury hotel’s role, therefore, is to act as a bridge between technology and humanity, offering guests the efficiency of the future with the soulfulness of

usiness travel has always been a microcosm of broader societal and economic trends. Yet in recent years, seismic shifts in consumer behaviour, workplace culture, and hospitality innovation have redrawn the map of what constitutes a successful business trip. The modern business traveller now expects far more than just seamless connections, comfortable rooms, and access to conference facilities. The new standard is defined by personalisation, sustainability, well-being, and integration with the digital lifestyle—in short, a complete recalibration of what ‘essential’ means in today’s globally mobile corporate world.

OPINION

THE RECALIBRATION OF TRAVEL

Seamless logistics aren’t enough; personalisation, sustainability, and digital fluency now define travel

BFrom convenience to personalisation

Traditionally, business travellers valued efficiency above all else: proximity to airports, streamlined check-ins, and reliable wifi. The modern traveller expects experiences that cater to their individual preferences. Hotels and airlines are now judged on their ability to tailor services to enrich bleisure travel, or ensure loyalty programs extend beyond rooms and flights.

Wellness as a core competency

What was once an optional add-on is now central: health and wellness. Leading hospitality brands now prioritise sleep quality with advanced bedding technology, offer nutritious

vegetarian, vegan, and functional food choices, and integrate mindful fitness. The message is clear: road productivity depends on well-being, and business travellers prefer brands that protect their health.

Sustainability in practice, not promise

Sustainability has graduated to a decisive factor. Today’s business traveller expects carbon footprints to be minimised. This means energy efficiency operations, credible waste reduction practices, and transparent reporting. Critical, too, is enabling travellers to make sustainable choices through visible, measurable actions, and not just through glossy pledges, that reflect their values and corporate mandates.

Technology as the invisible insider

If the heart of the business trip is human connection, its bloodstream is technology. The pandemic-era digital shift has reset expectations. Contactless check-ins, mobile room keys, hybrid meetings, and high-speed connectivity are now essentials.

The next frontier is AI-powered personalisation, flexible work pods, and platforms letting travellers manage every trip within one ecosystem. Technology should not overwhelm, but be smart enough to optimise outcomes.

Blurring the lines between work and leisure

The new standard acknowledges that the boundary between business and leisure travel has blurred irreversibly. Corporate travellers are staying longer, extending trips to explore destinations or bringing families along. Hotels and airlines must offer spaces conducive to focused work and immersive leisure. For brands, the ability to

Technology should not overwhelm, but be smart enough to optimise outcomes

blend efficiency with authentic local experiences represents an opportunity.

In essence, the landscape of business travel is no longer defined by logistics alone. The essential elements have shifted toward personalisation, wellness, sustainability, technological fluency, and work-life integration. Tourism in India is experiencing a significant boom, particularly in wellness, religious, wildlife, and cultural sectors. The country’s rich spiritual heritage has made it a global hub for wellness tourism, attracting travellers seeking yoga, Ayurveda, and holistic healing in places like Rishikesh and Kerala. Religious tourism is thriving, with millions visiting sacred sites such as Varanasi, Tirupati, Vaishno Devi, and the Char Dham every year. Wildlife tourism is also expanding, as India’s national parks like Ranthambore, Kaziranga, and Jim Corbett offer unique opportunities to see tigers, elephants, and rare bird species in their natural habitats. Meanwhile, cultural tourism is drawing both domestic and international tourists to historic forts, palaces, festivals, and traditional arts across states like Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

The government’s initiatives like ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ and improved infrastructure are further supporting this growth, positioning India as a diverse and attractive destination for every kind of traveller.

Wellness Tourism

A GATEWAY TO HOLISTIC HEALING

Wellness tourism, a growing segment of the global travel industry, involves travelling for the purpose of promoting health and well-being through physical, psychological, or spiritual activities. India, with its ancient traditions of Ayurveda, yoga, and holistic healing, has become one of the world’s most sought-after destinations for wellness tourism. The country’s rich heritage, coupled with modern infrastructure and a diverse landscape, makes it ideal for travellers seeking rejuvenation, detoxification, and inner peace. Both domestic and international demand drive India’s wellness tourism market.

According to various reports from the tourism and wellness industries, wellness tourism in India is growing at a rate higher than the global average. Government initiatives such as “Incredible India,” “Ayushman Bharat,” and the promotion of Yoga Day have further strengthened the sector.

The rise of eco-conscious and healthfocused travellers, especially post-COVID, has accelerated interest in wellness-centric travel. People are increasingly seeking experiences that allow them to disconnect from stress, improve their health, and return with a sense of renewal.

THE ROOTS OF WELLNESS IN INDIA

India’s wellness traditions are deeply rooted in its ancient systems of medicine and spirituality. Ayurveda, a 5,000-yearold system of natural healing and yoga, a discipline aimed at uniting body, mind, and spirit, are native to India. These systems emphasise balance in lifestyle, diet, and mental well-being, offering a natural path to health and longevity.

The spiritual practices of meditation and mindfulness, which are central to many Indian philosophies, also attract international wellness seekers. With the increasing global shift toward preventive and holistic healthcare, India’s wellness tourism sector has flourished.

Many wellness resorts and retreat centres offer comprehensive packages combining these elements to help visitors achieve physical, mental, and emotional balance.

From the snowcapped Himalayas in the north to the tropical rainforests of the south, and from the arid deserts of the west to the lush mangroves of the east, the country is home to an astonishing variety of flora and fauna. Wildlife tourism in India has grown significantly in the past few decades. It draws nature lovers, photographers, researchers, and adventurers from all over the world for the purpose of observing and interacting with wild animals in their natural habitats. In India, this includes jungle safaris, bird watching, nature walks, and conservation-based tourism. The country has over 100 national parks, 550 wildlife sanctuaries, and numerous conservation reserves that serve as hotspots for wildlife tourism.

IMPORTANCE OF WILDLIFE TOURISM

Wildlife tourism plays a vital role in conservation, awareness, and the economy. It generates revenue for the maintenance and development of protected areas. It also helps local communities by providing employment opportunities, from forest guides to lodge operators. Additionally, it raises awareness among tourists about the

importance of preserving biodiversity and respecting nature. Wildlife tourism in India offers more than just a glimpse of rare and majestic creatures; it offers an immersion into ecosystems that are as diverse and delicate.

Responsible and sustainable tourism is crucial; as awareness of conservation grows, so does the need for sustainable tourism practices. Unregulated tourism can lead to habitat degradation, pollution, and disturbance to animals. Therefore, many wildlife tourism projects in India now focus on eco-tourism and community-based initiatives. For travellers, India’s wilderness is not only an opportunity to connect with nature but also to contribute positively to its preservation. Whether it’s tracking a tiger in Ranthambhore, cruising through the Sundarbans, or spotting rhinos in Kaziranga, wildlife tourism in India promises experiences that are both thrilling and meaningful.

COLLECTOR’S

The uncommon icons of haute horlogerie

Luxury watches are more than just timepieces; they are collectable works of art, defined by their craftsmanship, heritage, and rarity. Some brands produce limited-edition models that feature intricate complications such as perpetual calendars, tourbillons, and minute repeaters, while others are coveted for their historical associations and rare dial variations. Unique materials, such as sapphire cases, meteorite dials, or forged carbon, also enhance a watch’s desirability.

Many collectors value watches with inhouse movements, handcrafted detailing, or provenance, such as ownership by a famous individual. The finishing techniques, like Geneva stripes or hand-engraving, showcase artisanal mastery. These features, combined with a strong brand legacy, often cause values to appreciate over time. For collectors, owning such watches is not just about luxury but also about preserving a piece of horological history that flawlessly blends design, engineering, and storytelling into one timeless object.

Business Traveller India delves into a curated selection of some of the world’s most extraordinary timepieces that transcend the conventional and celebrate audacious innovation.

WORDS KHURSHEED MISTRY

LUDOVIC BALLOUARD UPSIDE DOWN

The Upside Down by watchmaking

virtuoso Ludovic Ballouard is a breathtaking reimagining of time display. It is an exquisite fusion of mechanical ingenuity and poetic whimsy. Eschewing traditional horological norms, this avant-garde creation features a dial unlike any other: twelve independent hour discs, each bearing numerals intentionally presented upside down. At any given moment, only one hour gracefully performs an instantaneous 180-degree pirouette, revealing itself upright, as if awakened from slumber. The rest remain elegantly inverted, waiting their turn in the ballet of time.

In place of a conventional hour hand, a singular, sweeping minute hand glides across the minimalist dial, offering an experience both intuitive and mesmerising. This clever reinterpretation of the jumphour complication is not merely a technical marvel but a philosophical expression reminding its wearer to live in the now, where only the present is clear.

Crafted in limited numbers and entirely by hand, each Upside Down is a testament to Ballouard’s uncompromising dedication to independent watchmaking at its most rarefied. With its seamless blend of aesthetic audacity, precision, and conceptual brilliance, it stands as one of the most coveted and collectable contemporary timepieces.

VIANNEY HALTER DEEP SPACE TOURBILLON

Atrue marvel of modern horology, the Vianney Halter Deep Space Tourbillon is nothing short of otherworldly in concept and execution. Boldly futuristic yet rooted in the rich traditions of watch-making, this extraordinary timepiece is a visual and mechanical odyssey. At its heart lies an aweinspiring triple-axis tourbillon, an intricate kinetic sculpture that rotates across three dimensions, appearing to defy gravity as it floats within the dial’s celestial void.

Encased in a vessel that evokes the aesthetic of an interstellar craft, the watch commands attention. Its shallow, hooded lugs and generously domed sapphire crystal create a dramatic, architectural silhouette that rises boldly from the wrist, enveloping the tourbillon in a transparent sphere that enhances its hypnotic motion. This watch is a microcosmic universe, alive with movement and mystery. Produced in extremely limited numbers, each piece is handcrafted by one of the most visionary independent watchmakers of the 21st century. His signature fusion of science fiction inspiration and mechanical mastery transforms this masterpiece into a horological sculpture transcending timekeeping. F.P. JOURNE ÉLÉGANTE 48 MM TITANIUM

Since its founding in 1999, F.P. Journe has swiftly ascended to the pinnacle of bespoke horology, earning a reputation for mechanical ingenuity and uncompromising craftsmanship. In a landscape dominated by traditional mechanical movements, the Élégante is a timepiece that marries aesthetics with revolutionary quartz innovation.

Housed in a sleek, ultra-light titanium case, it is a masterclass in discreet luxury and forwardthinking engineering. Designed with an intelligent energy-saving mechanism, the watch enters a state of dormancy after 35 minutes of inactivity. During this time, the hands cease moving, preserving power without losing track of time. Once motion is detected through an integrated mechanical sensor, the hands instantly sweep to the current hour, a breathtaking mechanical ballet that embodies efficiency and artistry.

Boasting an exceptional battery life of eight to ten years in active wear, and up to 18 years in standby mode, the Élégante challenges the norms of quartz horology while upholding the meticulous finishing synonymous with F.P. Journe. Its movement, though electronically driven, is lavishly decorated, revealing the same artisanal devotion found in the brand’s celebrated mechanical calibres. Far from ordinary, this watch is a rare convergence of technical sophistication and timeless style, making it a horological statement for those who understand that innovation and elegance need not be mutually exclusive. It is, in every sense, a watch unlike any other.

ULYSSE NARDIN FREAK X

Among the most accessible entries into the realm of revolutionary artisanal horology, the Ulysse Nardin Freak X screams extraordinary. Boldly unconventional, it redefines the very notion of a dial, replacing traditional hands with movement components themselves to display the passage of time in spectacular fashion. A central bridge, doubling as a minute hand, rotates with mechanical grace, while a rotating disc underneath indicates the hours, offering an awe-inspiring, kinetic ballet of gears and wheels.

At its heart lies a visible, orbital carousel movement with an escapement and balance wheel forming a striking, almost futuristic interpretation of a tourbillon. The Freak X invites the wearer into the depths of its inner workings by embracing the mechanical in full. Despite its radical design, it retains a wearable sophistication, boasting a sleek, lightweight titanium case, 50 metres of water resistance, and a generous 72-hour power reserve. Unlike earlier models, this iteration includes a traditional crown for ease of use, making it a more intuitive and approachable gateway into Ulysse Nardin’s world of mechanical wizardry. With its daring aesthetic, high-tech execution, and commitment to pushing horological boundaries, the Freak X is a striking statement of rebellious innovation for those unafraid to stand apart. It encapsulates Ulysse Nardin’s spirit of fearless exploration in the art of watchmaking.

Adaring fusion of visionary craftsmanship, the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon is the result of an extraordinary collaboration between H. Moser & Cie. and MB&F, two of independent watchmaking’s most ground-breaking forces. The result is nothing short of a horological sculpture, brimming with mechanical sophistication and visionary flair.

Rather than confining itself to the conventional, topdown experience of timekeeping, this timepiece invites interaction from multiple angles. Its standout feature: a raised, three-dimensional sapphire dial with vertically mounted hour and minute hands that appear to float, gracefully aligned against one of Moser’s signature fumé dials, radiating deep colour gradients with subtle complexity.

At 12 o’clock, a cylindrical tourbillon spins with hypnotic precision, encased in a delicately balanced structure that elevates the movement to an architectural feat. To house this mechanical theatre, the watch is encased in a bold 19.5mm-high construction, crowned by a dramatically domed sapphire crystal that curves like the canopy of a cosmic observatory.

The Language

of

Presence

These pairings embody elegance as ritual, where presence defines the man before he speaks

Some garments simply clothe, and some garments compose. The latter do not merely fit the occasion; they define it. For the international traveller whose calendar stretches across continents, from early-morning boardroom briefings to late-night investor dinners or gala evenings, attire becomes more than fabric.

It is ritual, architecture, and theatre, a language of presence that precedes any spoken word. Wool whispers authority, suede sketches leisure, gold brocade proclaims spectacle, and black tie asserts timeless command. Shoes punctuate these sentences, whether with the definitive period of an Oxford or the glittering exclamation of a rhinestone-embellished Derby. Each garment, each ensemble, is a deliberate statement of discipline, freedom, audacity, and reverence. Within these five curated looks, the modern business traveller discovers a wardrobe designed to move seamlessly with him.

WORDS MARIA VERGHESE

Casual

Not all moments demand formality. Between flights and meetings, the modern traveller must navigate interludes that are neither idle nor inconsequential. The Massimo Dutti Suede Bomber Jacket in taupe-beige embodies this transitional elegance, offering softness without diminishing refinement. Its supple suede recalls desert sands at dawn, conveying warmth, tactility, and approachability. Unlike formalwear, this jacket signals ease, a controlled release from rigidity, yet remains impeccably finished, reflecting the standards of a life lived in motion.

The bomber thrives in spaces where leisure intersects with business: a sunset rooftop, a casual gallery walk or a quiet lounge in transit. Draped lightly over tailored layers, it communicates a command of both comfort and style. Its purpose is not to dominate the room but to convey awareness, a subtle sophistication that balances the day’s structured obligations with moments of repose.

Paired with the Hermès Bouncing Sneaker in blanc, the ensemble gains a contemporary athletic lyricism. These sneakers are crafted for gallery openings, yacht decks, or quiet alfresco cafés, not pavements or gyms. Every seam, every curve, demonstrates artisanal expertise while the understated palette keeps the ensemble grounded in elegance.

Bomber and sneaker create a cosmopolitan vocabulary, casual not as absence of formality, but as conscious assertion of lifestyle, ensuring that even unstructured moments are framed with the discernment of a seasoned traveller. The combination conveys not just comfort, but an understanding of rhythm, a sophistication that moves seamlessly across time zones and continents.

thleisure today is an evolution.

AThe Stone Island Sage Green Jacket embodies this shift, where performance meets poise. Rendered in a muted, mineral hue, it reflects a sensibility that values quiet distinction over showmanship. The jacket’s technical fabric and utilitarian design, complete with precision zips and ergonomic lines, speak to a lifestyle in motion. It’s for those who move between airports and mountain roads, urban mornings and off-grid weekends, with equal fluency. This is not outerwear; it is intent materialised.

Its natural counterpart, the Moncler Trailgrip Momint Trainers, grounds that intent. Built with nubuck and suede overlays, these shoes merge trail endurance with city refinement. Their sculpted sole, shock absorption, and tonal palette elevate function to artistry. Every step blends the rhythm of athleticism with the assurance of luxury, performance engineered, aesthetics perfected.

Together, they define the new code of sophistication: movement without compromise. The jacket and trainers are for a man who treats motion as his medium, his comfort, his strength, his elegance. In this world, athleisure isn’t about dressing down; it’s about rising, being resilient, and relentlessly modern.

Boho Chic

Boho Chic, in its truest luxury form, thrives on the art of effortless sophistication. The Brunello Cucinelli Suede Jacket embodies this philosophy, crafted in velvety, tobacco-hued suede, it exudes quiet opulence. Every stitch is a whisper of craftsmanship, merging rustic texture with refined tailoring. It doesn’t clamour for attention; it invites admiration through touch, tone, and timeless ease. This jacket is the armour of the modern nomad, one who values freedom, yet remains anchored in discernment.

BComplementing this grounded luxury is the Louis Vuitton LV Driver Moccasin, a piece that redefines casual elegance. With its hand-stitched detailing and supple leather, it mirrors the rhythm of slow travel and sunlit escapes. The mocassin’s braided accents and iconic LV hardware lend it an air of wanderlust polished by precision. It moves from cobblestoned streets to coastal drives seamlessly, reflecting a lifestyle that’s curated but never constrained.

The supple suede jacket and handstitched moccasins weave a tactile symphony of elegance, a whispered conversation between timeless heritage and effortless spontaneity, where every texture speaks of quiet luxury and livedin sophistication. For the man who wears them, Boho Chic isn’t a style; it’s a state of being rooted and endlessly in motion.

n the rhythm of business travel, the hours are long and the environments constantly shift. One might start with a sunrise meeting followed by a flight for a business meeting, and conclude the day with a meticulously orchestrated investor dinner. In such a context, formal attire must deliver both authority and adaptability. The Suit Supply Navy Havana Jacket in wool embodies this principle. Its tailoring is precise yet supple, allowing the wearer to move comfortably across twelvehour days without sacrificing elegance. The deep navy hue is intentionally versatile, pairing with crisp white shirts for meetings or textured greys for understated evening settings.

Beneath its surface lies a subtle architecture: structured shoulders convey control, a slight taper at the waist suggests refinement, and soft sleeve construction allows movement without compromising the silhouette. It is a jacket that frames leadership without shouting, simultaneously projecting discipline and approachability.

Completing this ensemble, the Gaziano & Girling Oxford in Black Calf is not merely a shoe but a statement. Each curve, stitch, and polish reflects generations of English shoemaking tradition, creating a refined punctuation to a sartorial narrative. These Oxfords provide both comfort for transit and authority for formal settings, allowing the wearer to traverse airport lounges, conference halls, and private dining rooms with quiet confidence.

Black Tie

At the summit of sartorial expression lies black tie, a discipline where precision meets quiet grandeur. The Todd Snyder Italian Peak Lapel Tuxedo Jacket in black wool stands as its perfect emblem. Cut from fine Italian cloth and shaped with Savile Row influence, it reflects authority without aggression. Each seam is a study in restraint, allowing presence to emerge through structure and proportion rather than embellishment. Designed for moments that demand ceremony, an opera premiere, a gala dinner, or a diplomatic evening, it commands respect while allowing ease, a balance few garments achieve.

Completing the ensemble, the Tod’s Patent Leather Loafers bring a modern inflexion to formality. Their high-gloss finish mirrors the soft gleam of crystal and candlelight, while the loafer silhouette introduces an element of continental nonchalance. The craftsmanship remains unmistakably refined, sleek, sculptural, and discreetly branded, anchoring the black-tie code in contemporary comfort.

The tuxedo and loafer converge in a contemporary expression poised balance of precision and ease, where formality breathes with modern vitality, and tradition is reimagined through a lens of fluid sophistication. For the discerning traveller and man of the world, this pairing transforms tradition into proof that true elegance is in the mastery of restraint.

When European artistry meets the vibrant essence of local heritage

What it’s like

Food & Drink

It was an unforgettable evening steeped in pure decadence, an ode to haute cuisine, where I surrendered to the canapés selection, an overture to a gastronomic symphony that will

linger in my memory as one of the most sublime culinary experiences of my life. The journey began with La Crevette Rouge de Sicile, a delicate tartare of wild-caught Sicilian red prawn, fresh, crowned with a silky ricotta blanc-manger, kissed by the zest of Amalfi lemon, and dusted with crushed Sicilian pistachio for earthy sweetness. Next, La Seriole du Pacifique arrived, a jewel-like yellowtail kingfish, gently cured in gin and beetroot, its delicate flesh enhanced by citrus pearls, slivers of radish, and an enticing hibiscusraspberry vinegar that danced on the palate. The oceanic elegance continued with La Langouste de Palawan, a slow-roasted Palawan lobster, in fragrant seaweed butter, nestled beside braised heirloom lettuce and carrots, all luxuriously enveloped in a rich Bordelaise sauce. For the pièce de résistance: Le Boeuf Wagyu, a Binchōtancharred tender Japanese Wagyu striploin paired with a crisp pomme paillasson, black garlic purée, and a decadent green peppercorn sauce. The pre-dessert, Le Chocolat, featured a dark chocolate crémeux with Glenfiddich 15-year-old whisky,

The interiors, designed by André Fu, are chic yet relaxed, with every corner offering a carefully curated view, from contemporary sculptures to rotating exhibitions of worldclass art. The ambience perfectly balances sophistication and warmth, inviting guests to linger over conversation, culture, and culinary artistry. After a major transformation in mid-2025, the restaurant has emerged more luminous and inviting than ever, continuing its 12-year legacy as a Hong Kong institution.

Food & Drink

The culinary affair began with a series of dim sum that truly exuded the kitchen’s technical finesse. The steamed pork and shrimp dumpling delivered a balanced interplay of

sweetness and umami, accentuated by Australian scallop and a delicate touch of fish roe for salinity.

The baked barbecued pork bun showcased expert textural contrast with a buttery, golden crust yielding to tender char siu. The steamed cabbage dumpling with fungus was nuanced, allowing the flavours to come through with quiet clarity.

Soft scrambled egg with prawn revealed faultless precision of temperature and timing.

Duddell’s X.O. sauce stir-fry with pork collar, cashew nuts, chives, and dried shrimp embodied the restaurant’s Cantonese roots; a slow-building umami that underscored the pork’s sweetness.

The deep-fried spicy Mala lobster spring roll was crisp and aromatic, the crust audibly thin, the filling fragrant with Sichuan spice. The roasted goose pie with plum sauce juxtaposed savoury depth against measured fruit acidity, while the Mala shank introduced numbing heat, balanced by meaty flavours.

A Typhoon Shelter–style vegetable platter added a garlicky, textural, and vibrant contrast. From there, mains like the sautéed chicken with black beans and dried shallots in a claypot and fried

Changing Tables: A retrospective on dining culture

Once an indulgence in 2017, bespoke dining has flourished into a cultural phenomenon. Khursheed Mistry explores how artfully curated culinary experiences now define how families reunite and corporations celebrate

From 2017 to 2025, the world of dining has blossomed into an opulent tapestry of curated experiences.

Exquisitely tailored meals have transcended mere indulgence to become the hallmark of sophisticated gatherings. No longer reserved for the elite few, this refined culinary culture now graces boardrooms, soirées, and intimate family moments alike. What was once a niche luxury has evolved into an essential ritual, where connections and celebrations are savoured with elegance, intention, and unmistakable flair.

THE POPULARITY OF CUSTOMISED DINING EXPERIENCES

In 2017, customised dining was still an emerging trend limited to high-end clientele and select culinary circles. These early curated experiences hinted at the potential of personalised gastronomy, offering hand-tailored menus, private chefs, and atmospheric settings. But over time, the demand for meaningful, memorable encounters sparked a renaissance in how we approach food and social connection.

THE RISE OF SUSTAINABILITY AND EXPERIENTIAL GASTRONOMY

By 2020, the fusion of wellness, sustainability, and experiential dining began to reshape expectations. Forward-thinking hosts sought out culinary artisans who could craft immersive journeys from multisensory tasting menus to destination feasts under the stars. Corporate retreats evolved from sterile banquet rooms to elegant farm-totable affairs, rich in storytelling and regional flavour.

THE FUTURE OF CULINARY EXPRESSIONS

Today, in 2025, bespoke dining is not merely a preference; it’s a lifestyle statement. For discerning companies and social circles, these tailored experiences reflect a desire for authenticity, exclusivity, and emotional resonance. Private villas, secret gardens, chef’s tables and supper clubs now serve as stages for culinary artistry and theatre, where every course is a curated expression of culture, creativity, and connection. Whether it’s an executive soirée overlooking the skyline or a family reunion infused with nostalgia and gourmet flair, bespoke dining experiences now symbolise a return to what matters most: intentionality, craftsmanship, and shared joy. This evolution marks a shift in how we dine and how we gather with elegance, intimacy, and lasting impact.
