Glittering shores and sunlit coasts
Along Australia’s eastern seaboard, where the Pacific rolls endlessly onto golden shores, the Gold Coast unfurls as a destination of striking contrasts and effortless allure. It is a place where natural splendour confluences with cosmopolitan polish. Where the days flow seamlessly from barefoot mornings on the sand to candlelit evenings high above a shimmering skyline.
The coastline itself is legendary, with long arcs of pristine beaches, with waves dancing to a lilting rhythm. Surfers carve across famed breaks at Burleigh and Snapper Rocks, while quieter coves invite unhurried swims in turquoise shallows. Yet only a short drive inland, the scene transforms. Here, the hinterland rises into rainforest-clad ridges and volcanic plateaus, alive with waterfalls, glow-worm caves, and ancient forests. Private guided walks, wine tastings in boutique vineyards, and flightseeing allow for a deeper exploration of this sanctuary in serene detail. These experiences balance the region’s high-energy shoreline with moments of profound stillness. As the sun begins to set, the city takes on its own radiance. Towers of glass catch the fading light, mirrored in the waterways that wind like silver ribbons through the landscape. Rooftop bars and refined dining rooms celebrate the region’s abundance, featuring wild-caught seafood, artisanal cheeses, tropical fruits, and native botanicals presented with contemporary finesse. Luxury here is never on the nose, but quietly indulgent, reflecting Australia’s deep respect for provenance, flavour, and craft.
Cultural richness thrives alongside nature. Art precincts, boutique wine bars, theatre performances, and intimate live-music venues give evenings a cosmopolitan cadence. While wellness retreats, sunrise yoga on secluded beaches, and spa sanctuaries rooted in local botanicals invite restoration. For discerning travellers, the Gold Coast is not simply a holiday; it is a balance of energy and serenity, an immersion into landscapes and lifestyles that feel both vital and timeless.
APPLE HAS UNVEILED ITS 2025 LINE-UP led by the iPhone 17 series, which includes the standard iPhone 17, the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air, and the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air, Apple’s thinnest handset to date at just 5.5 mm, is expected to start between $899 and $949, with higher storage variants potentially rising to $1,099. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is projected to remain around $1,199, though some reports suggest it may edge up to $1,249. Photography sees a significant upgrade, with all models equipped with a 48MP primary sensor, an improved Night Mode and AI-driven image processing for more natural results. The Pro Max gains an exclusive telephoto lens for advanced zoom.
Together, these updates reflect Apple’s strategy to reinforce the pull of its ecosystem, keeping users firmly within its integrated world of devices and services.
EMIRATES HAS INITIATED a retrofit of its Boeing 777-300ER Business Class cabins, replacing the 2-3-2 layout with a 1-2-1 configuration that ensures all passengers enjoy direct aisle access. As of August 2025, 25 out of 120 aircraft have been refitted, with full fleet conversion expected by late 2026. Each cabin now seats 40, offering staggered, fully lie-flat beds measuring 78 inches, cream leather finishes, darker wood accents, and 23-inch high-definition entertainment screens. The redesign markedly improves personal space and
comfort, albeit storage remains limited and suites remain open rather than enclosed. The new layout spans a compact threerow forward cabin and a larger seven-row section, offering true window seats, aisle-aligned window seats, and paired or separated middle seats for couples or solo travellers in tandem. Destinations already served by the upgraded aircraft include London Stansted, Boston, Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Seattle, Madrid, Lisbon, Vienna, Miami, and Riyadh, with Kuala Lumpur and Phuket scheduled from late 2025.
LUFTHANSA HAS INTRODUCED EARLY CHECK-IN services at Singapore’s Changi Airport for passengers travelling to Europe with Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines. The service is available daily from eight o’clock in the morning until eight o’clock in the evening.
The service allows passengers additional flexibility on the day of departure, enabling them to check in well in advance and spend more time enjoying the extensive facilities available at Changi Airport before boarding. Lufthansa, which has been operating flights to Singapore since 1965, continues to strengthen its presence in the region by introducing this customer-focused service at one of Asia’s most significant aviation hubs.

NEW DELHI’S INDIRA GANDHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (DEL), India’s busiest airport, will resume operations at its revamped Terminal 2 from October 26, 2025, according to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). The terminal upgrade is part of a broader capacity expansion plan aimed at easing congestion across the airport.
From the opening date, select domestic flights operated by IndiGo and Go First will shift to Terminal 2, reducing passenger load on Terminals 1 and 3. The facility now features improved check-in counters, additional security lanes, upgraded baggage handling systems, and enhanced seating, lighting, and food and beverage areas, designed to streamline processing and improve passenger experience.
Delhi Airport currently handles over 70 million passengers annually, and this operational shift is expected to optimise aircraft movements and reduce wait times. DIAL advises passengers to confirm terminal details before travel, as terminal allocations will change from the opening date.
Boutique hotels are redefining travel, offering thoughtfully designed spaces where culture, comfort, and purpose confluence
Boutique hotels are now redefining the notion of a stay, offering spaces where design, culture, and service converge with intention. Rather than simply providing accommodation, they create environments that respond to the rhythms of modern travel, where work, leisure, and curiosity exist naturally alongside one another. The rooms are thoughtfully curated, keeping both comfort and productivity in mind. They are often found to have bespoke touches that speak to the destination, from locally crafted furnishings to artwork that imbues the essence of a place.
The appeal extends beyond the guest room. Roof terraces overlook lively streets or hidden courtyards, while restaurants and bars champion local ingredients and flavours. Private tours, vineyard visits, or curated cultural experiences allow travellers to engage with their surroundings meaningfully. Every detail, from the ambient lighting to the music to signature scents, is considered.
Thus ensuring that each moment, whether preparing for a meeting or enjoying an evening unwind, feels deliberate and distinctive.
Location plays an equally important role. Boutique hotels often occupy historic quarters, creative districts, or tranquil corners, giving guests immediate access to the character and energy of a city. Walking routes, adjacent galleries, and intimate dining options encourage exploration while retaining the convenience and privacy that discerning travellers expect.
The growth of boutique hotels reflects a wider evolution in travel priorities. Guests now seek environments that combine efficiency with authenticity, comfort with cultural resonance. By prioritising thoughtful design, attentive service, and a sense of place, these hotels transform a stay into an experience where every choice, from morning coffee to evening reception, feels purposeful, refined, and quietly memorable.
Hospitality embraces personalised table service with the kitchen-to-table trend
The era of the traditional buffet is gradually fading as restaurants reconsider both environmental impact and guest expectations. Once celebrated for abundance, buffets now face scrutiny for their inefficiency, high operational costs, and contribution to food waste. The shift is particularly relevant in a sustainabilityfocused era, where both diners and operators are re-evaluating practices that impact the planet, health, and bottom lines. Changing consumer preferences are at the heart of this transformation. Modern diners seek personalisation, freshness, and wellness-focused options. They value meals that are prepared to order, showcasing quality ingredients rather than selections
that may have been sitting under heat lamps for hours. In addition, à la carte or interactive dining models enhance the perceived value, ensuring guests pay for what they consume, thereby reducing waste and promoting responsible sourcing.
Operational challenges also play a role. Buffets require extensive labour to monitor, replenish, and maintain hygiene, while food overproduction can lead to significant losses, especially during off-peak periods. Post-pandemic awareness has heightened concerns around shared serving utensils and cross-contamination, further prompting restaurants to rethink their offerings.
Sustainable alternatives are emerging worldwide. Fine dining menus focus on
seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, while interactive food stations and themed specialty spreads deliver freshness, entertainment, and controlled portions. Delivery and takeout models reduce overproduction and packaging impact, while smaller, curated offerings preserve culinary quality without wastage.
The move away from traditional buffets is more than operational; it is cultural. By prioritising sustainability, safety, and thoughtful service, restaurants are creating dining experiences that resonate with modern travellers, offering experiences that are environmentally responsible, economically sound, and memorably distinctive.

AI is reinventing nutrition and effortlessly integrating it into daily life
As healthcare embraces personalisation, nutrition is following suit, and artificial intelligence is propelling it into a new era. Precision nutrition now uses an individual’s health data to craft tailored dietary recommendations, bringing us closer to truly customised eating plans.
In sports and performance, biometric tracking is being used to design diets that align with energy needs, recovery goals, and focus, with benefits that extend beyond athletes to anyone seeking better daily performance. Growing comfort with sharing health metrics from wearables by consumers is helping fuel this shift.
One major innovation addresses the long-standing challenge of accurate meal tracking. Using a combination of physiological signals, movement patterns, and environmental cues, new systems can estimate carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake with impressive accuracy, reducing the need for error-prone self-reporting. This holds particular promise for managing health conditions like diabetes or obesity, and future developments may even incorporate stress tracking for deeper insights.
Meanwhile, advanced AI is unlocking the potential of bioactives, which are the beneficial compounds found in plants and
microbes, mapping millions of them and identifying thousands with the potential to support targeted health outcomes. These insights open the door for products with scientifically validated claims, from foods that subtly enhance cognitive function to snacks that support skin health. Everyday items, from personal care to pantry staples, are also being reimagined as delivery systems for personalised supplements, seamlessly integrating wellness into daily routines.
From real-time nutrient tracking to bioactive discovery, AI is turning precision nutrition from an abstract concept into a deeply data-driven reality.
Matcha, a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves, has rapidly gained recognition as a wellness superfood. Traditionally consumed in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha has found its way into the daily routines of healthconscious individuals across the globe. Its vibrant green hue and earthy, umami flavour are now common in everything from lattes and smoothies to desserts and skincare products.
What makes matcha so appealing is its impressive nutritional profile. It is packed with antioxidants, particularly catechins like EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which are known for their cancer-fighting and anti-inflammatory properties. Matcha also contains L-theanine, an
amino acid that promotes calm focus and mental clarity. Unlike coffee, which can cause jitteriness and energy crashes, matcha provides a smoother and more sustained energy boost. This is because the caffeine in matcha is balanced by L-theanine, resulting in a more stable and relaxed state of alertness.
The global popularity of matcha has soared in recent years. It is rapidly gaining popularity in India, especially among health-conscious millennials and urban tea lovers. With the rising interest in superfoods and wellness trends, cafés and brands are incorporating matcha into lattes, smoothies, and desserts across major Indian cities. In cafes from across the globe, matcha lattes have become a staple menu item, often marketed as a healthy alternative to traditional coffee. Influencers and wellness advocates
often feature matcha in their morning routines, while major brands now offer matcha-flavoured snacks, protein bars, and even beauty products.
The matcha market is expected to continue growing as consumers seek cleaner, plant-based options that offer both health benefits and indulgent flavour. For coffee lovers trying to reduce their caffeine intake or those seeking a more balanced energy source, matcha provides a compelling alternative. Tea enthusiasts, too, are drawn to its rich history, ceremonial roots, and holistic health advantages.
Whether whisked into a traditional bowl or blended into an iced latte, matcha stands out as more than just a trend; it’s a versatile and potent superfood with staying power in the wellness world.

Business Traveller chats with Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, on the future of the tourism Industry and the role that Visit Qatar will play in shaping the vision
AHow is Visit Qatar leveraging AI and data analytics to better understand and cater to evolving traveller preferences in 2025?
Visit Qatar’s marketing strategy is anchored on delivering relevant content, leveraging data-driven decision-making, and maintaining a consistent global brand presence. Artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role, providing real-time insights into traveller behaviour and enabling agile adaptation to emerging trends. In 2025, this approach earned us four SMARTIES MENA Awards, including Gold for Innovative Use of AI in Advertising. In addition, our GenAI-powered Trip Concierge, developed with Microsoft Azure and OpenAI, offers hyper-personalised itineraries in over 50 languages, integrating text, voice,
maps, and interactive planning. Strategic partnerships, such as our MoU with Huawei, further enhance AI-driven targeting across our key markets. These initiatives enable us to anticipate traveller preferences, optimise campaigns, and deliver tailored experiences, setting new benchmarks for digital innovation in tourism.
With sustainability now a major factor in destination choice, how are you aligning tourism growth with responsible travel practices in Qatar?
At Visit Qatar, we design experiences that balance tourism growth with responsible travel, in line with the sustainability ambitions of Qatar National Vision 2030. We promote nature-based and heritage activities with minimal environmental impact, including experiences at Ras Abrouq UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where access was managed to protect its ecosystem. In addition, our whale shark tour offering encourages eco-tourism by allowing guests to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat with minimal disturbance. Our marketing campaigns also highlight sustainable destinations such as Lusail City and Msheireb Downtown Doha. By showcasing these initiatives and destinations globally, we inspire visitors to experience Qatar in ways that safeguard cultural heritage, protect natural assets, and contribute to long-term sustainability.
Experiential and transformative travel continues to gain momentum. How is Qatar curating meaningful, culturally immersive experiences for today’s travellers? Qatar offers culturally immersive experiences that allow travellers to connect deeply with the country’s heritage and landscapes. Offerings include guided tours of Souq Waqif, traditional dhow cruises, and hands-on workshops in calligraphy, weaving, and local culinary arts. Nature-based experiences, such as luxury desert camp stays and farm tours that highlight innovative agriculture, further enrich the journey. In addition, seasonal events such as the Qatar International Food Festival and heritage celebrations, like Qatar National Day, foster authentic community connections. By blending tradition with modern hospitality, Qatar ensures travellers leave with a profound understanding of its identity.
How are airline capacity shifts and new aviation routes influencing Qatar tourism’s strategy and destination marketing efforts?
Qatar’s tourism strategy 2030 targets 22 priority markets, with airline capacity shifts and new routes playing a central role in reaching them. The expansion of Qatar Airways’ network and increased flight frequencies to key cities in Europe, Asia, and North America have strengthened accessibility and convenience for our target audiences. Qatar Airways now flies to over 160 destinations worldwide, supported by more than 50 international airlines flying into Doha. Hamad International Airport (HIA) welcomed over 52 million passengers in
2024, a 15% increase compared to 2023, and was ranked the World’s Best Airport in 2024, as well as Best Airport in the Middle East for the tenth consecutive year.
Initiatives such as our stopover packages with Qatar Airways have been especially impactful, allowing travellers to experience Qatar even on short layovers. In January 2025 alone, the Discover Qatar Stopover Programme welcomed over 10,500 visitors, up from 6,651 in January 2024. Between April 2024 and January 2025, stopover arrivals grew by 165% year-on-year, while hotel bookings linked to the programme exceeded 100,000 room nights, double the previous year’s figure. These developments directly
support our strategic goal of driving tourism growth and positioning Qatar as a leading global destination.
Wellness and mental well-being are now top priorities for many tourists. How is Qatar adapting to serve this demand? Visit Qatar recognises the growing demand for wellness and mental well-being in travel and is enhancing its offerings accordingly. Visitors can enjoy a range of wellness retreats and centres across the country, including world-class destinations such as Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som, the largest wellness retreat in the region, offering tailored, holistic programmes. Beyond
facilities, we ensure peace of mind through a seamless and efficient visitor experience, with accessible, fully digitised services from arrival to departure. Qatar’s compact size allows travellers to explore diverse attractions with minimal travel time, while its reputation for safety further enhances a sense of relaxation. Together, these elements position Qatar as an ideal destination for those seeking rejuvenation, balance, and cultural enrichment.
What kind of cross-sector collaborations are driving innovation in your tourism strategy?
Cross-sector collaboration is instrumental to innovation in our tourism strategy. Cruise partnerships, most recently with Celestyal Cruises, are expanding Doha’s marine appeal, with dual-ship deployments expected to deliver over 40,000 visitors in the 2025 winter cruise season. In the technology realm, our MoU with Huawei unlocks seamless, data-driven visitor engagement through platforms such as Harmony Atomic Cards, Huawei Wallet, Petal Maps, and AI-powered tools. In addition, Qatar Tourism’s Service Excellence Academy provides training across multiple sectors, from immigration officers participating in the Ambassadors of Qatar: The Road to Excellence programme, to
hotel staff receiving specialised instruction through The Art of Front Office Hospitality. Finally, our Expression of Interest for the West Bay Waterfront and Al Safliya Island invites innovative beachfront development in partnership with Ashghal, MoCI, and Invest Qatar.
How is Qatar Tourism preparing to attract and accommodate emerging travel segments, such as Gen Z, digital nomads, and multi-generational families?
Qatar offers everyday luxury and exceptional value, with bespoke experiences designed to suit every taste, budget, and interest. Its tailored offerings and world-class infrastructure cater to a wide range of traveller segments, including Gen Z, digital nomads, and multi-generational families. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of experiences, from major sporting events and vibrant festivals to hidden cultural treasures and stunning natural landscapes. Opportunities for relaxation, fine dining, and lively nightlife complement the country’s safety, comfort, and accessible entertainment. Combined with its compact size, exceptional hospitality, and year-round appeal, Qatar delivers a seamless and inclusive experience for all travellers.
Looking ahead to 2030, how do you envision the future of tourism, and what role will Qatar Tourism play in shaping that vision?
Tourism is a key pillar in achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030, supporting economic diversification and sustainable growth. Qatar Tourism’s strategy aims to position the country among the fastestgrowing destinations in the region, targeting a 12% contribution to GDP by 2030 and a tripling or quadrupling of domestic tourism spending. Through world-class infrastructure, regulatory support, and a focus on service excellence, we are enhancing the entire tourism value chain. Visit Qatar, the marketing arm of Qatar Tourism, showcases the nation globally through targeted campaigns, a dynamic calendar of events, and a strategic focus on 15 priority markets. By attracting investment, developing diverse tourism assets, and expanding sector talent, we are driving growth, creating jobs, and ensuring Qatar offers exceptional experiences for everyone.
For years, luxury hospitality was defined by grandeur. But the definition is shifting. Today’s most discerning guests understand that luxury is unobtrusive; you’re only there when you’re needed. It’s the assurance that people and resources are perfectly aligned to support you, without a single moment of unnecessary fuss. This new, conscious luxury extends beyond service to the very foundation of hospitality. For the modern, globally aware traveller, sustainability has moved from being a trend to a baseline expectation. The new hallmark of luxury is responsibility. Today’s discerning traveller, particularly the millennial and Gen Z audience that shapes Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan energy, values something deeper. For them, the new hallmark of luxury is responsibility. Sustainability has moved from being a trend to a baseline expectation.
Bengaluru is the perfect lens through which to view this change. Once known as a quiet pensioner’s town, the city is now one of the most dynamic luxury destinations in India. Its growth has been fuelled by a globally aware, well-travelled and value-conscious workforce. This demographic wants indulgence with meaning. Their choices reflect an awareness of community, environment,
and legacy, qualities that resonate beyond the length of a stay.
For luxury hospitality, this creates an exciting challenge: how do you offer extraordinary experiences that are mindful of impact? The answer lies in innovation. A truly luxurious experience is one where sustainability feels like enrichment. A menu shaped around seasonal, locally grown produce is environmentally responsible and tastes fresher, telling a more authentic story. A thoughtfully designed room that maximises natural light and uses smart controls
Today’s most discerning guests understand that luxury is unobtrusive; you’re only there when you’re needed
to manage energy becomes a calming sanctuary for the guest.
At Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru, this philosophy of ‘Four Seasons for Good’ is woven into our fabric. Our in-house herb garden is one example, allowing our chefs to bring fresh, hyper-local flavours to the table while also reducing food miles. The hotel’s recent recognition with the LEED Platinum certification, one of the highest global benchmarks for sustainable building, places us in a niche category of luxury hotels worldwide. These milestones are a part of an integrated approach that ensures our guests feel both indulged and aligned with their values. Sustainability, however, is not just about systems and certifications; it is about people. When a bartender crafts a cocktail using locally sourced botanicals, or a chef creates a dish that celebrates the season, it communicates care that goes beyond service. Guests recognise authenticity in these details. They see a team that shares their values and is committed to delivering an experience that is both memorable and meaningful.
Luxury has always been about setting benchmarks. Today, that benchmark is no longer defined by excess but by conscience. The move from glitz to green does not dilute the idea of luxury; it elevates it. The finest experiences are not only those that dazzle in the moment, but those that leave behind a legacy of respect for the world we share.
As the General Manager of The St. Regis Hong Kong, I continually contemplate the meaning of luxury in today’s world. The St. Regis brand embodies elegance, sophistication, and unmatched service. However, as we navigate the evolving hospitality landscape, it is crucial to rethink the traditional five-star standards that have historically defined luxury and explore how we can ensure that every guest’s stay is truly exquisite.
Our exceptional Butler service is a hallmark of our brand’s commitment to personalised luxury. We were among the pioneers in introducing this bespoke service, setting a standard that many hotels aspire to emulate. Our Butlers are trained to anticipate and fulfil every guest’s needs, providing tailored assistance that transforms each stay into a uniquely memorable experience. They are taught to connect with guests, creating memorable interactions that extend beyond the transactional. This emotional engagement is what transforms a good experience into a truly luxurious one.
As a leader in this area, we often find that other hotels look to us for inspiration and guidance for service excellence. Our innovative techniques and commitment to personalised service have established benchmarks that resonate throughout the industry. By sharing our approach and experiences, we contribute to
raising the bar for luxury hospitality as a whole.
Guests today seek experiences tailored to their individual preferences and needs. A true luxury experience includes understanding guests on a deeper level. This means training the staff to anticipate needs and offer personalised recommendations.
Guests are increasingly looking for authenticity; luxury is no longer just about lavish amenities. At St. Regis, we aim to immerse our guests in the unique stories of our destination. This includes curated local tours, sharing the brand’s narratives, highlighting traditional
rituals, partnering with local artisans, and offering exclusive access to cultural events or culinary experiences with top-tier outlets. By crafting these authentic experiences, we elevate luxury to a level that resonates with our guests.
Rethinking luxury also involves a commitment to sustainability. Modern travellers are environmentally conscious, and expect the brands they support to share these values. At St. Regis Hong Kong, we are integrating sustainable practices, from sourcing locally grown produce in our restaurants to implementing energy-efficient systems. Guests appreciate a brand that prioritises the planet alongside their comfort.
In the quest for redefined luxury, technology plays a crucial role. Today’s guests expect seamless integration of technology; however, it must be balanced with human touch. While automation enhances efficiency, it should never replace the warmth of personal service. At St. Regis, each time a guest enters their room, they will find personalised amenities welcoming them. We must embrace a holistic view of luxury that transcends traditional metrics: it’s about personalisation, authenticity, sustainability, anticipation and thoughtful technology. By aligning practices with these principles, St. Regis redefines what it means to provide a truly luxurious experience at the forefront of hospitality excellence in a rapidly changing world.
Business Traveller India showcases Narawadee (Yuki) Srikarnchana, Co-Founder and CEO of the iconic Nara Thai restaurant in Bangkok, as she reflects on her entrepreneurial journey when she launched the restaurant in 2004
Q&
AWhat inspired you to start Nara Thai, and how did you blend tradition with innovation in Thai Cuisine?
Having worked at the Rajprasong intersection for many years, I realised there wasn’t a single Thai restaurant in the area. So when the opportunity arose, I secured a space at the Erawan Shopping Complex and became a pioneer by introducing boat noodles within a shopping mall setting. My love for cooking comes from my parents. For them, preparing food wasn’t just about making a meal; it was an experience. I would often be in the kitchen, watching them carefully select and prepare ingredients. They never used written recipes; everything was guided by memory, taste, and heart. Of course, cooking techniques have evolved. Today, we have many innovative methods at our disposal, whether it’s shortening cooking time or enhancing visual appeal, such as turning sauces into light foams for decorative touches. Still, we at Nara Thai remain committed to preserving the authentic taste of our recipes, even if the presentation or techniques reflect a more modern approach.
What are the current global trends shaping the culinary industry, particularly in Southeast Asia?
We’re witnessing an explosion of talented young chefs launching their own chef’s table restaurants, each bringing a unique concept to the table. Some focus on regional flavours, others on fusion cuisine, farmto-table practices, or blending modern cooking techniques with ancestral methods. Many also emphasise sustainability. This movement isn’t just about crafting highend dishes; it represents a broader cultural shift, highlighting regional pride in culinary heritage. At the same time, street food across Asian countries continues to thrive, especially among tourists. It captures the essence of local, authentic cuisine, celebrated for its simplicity and bold, uncompromised flavours.
How has Nara Thai maintained the authenticity of Thai cuisine while expanding it internationally?
Before opening a restaurant in any country, sourcing ingredients is a critical step. It’s essential to understand which ingredients are locally available and identify suitable substitutes that maintain the dish’s authentic taste and appearance. Taste consistency is equally important, as we want all our international restaurants to deliver the same flavours as those found at home. To achieve this, we developed a range of sauces in Thailand, which all our franchisees are required to use. Additionally, we ensure that each of our overseas restaurants has a Thai chef onsite to oversee and maintain the overall quality and authenticity of the dishes.
How has the rise of food delivery platforms impacted the traditional dining experience in the restaurant industry?
Food delivery platforms haven’t affected our traditional dining experience; instead, they’ve provided a valuable opportunity for us to expand our customer base at Nara Thai. While delivery allows us to share our authentic flavours with a wider audience, our in-restaurant dining experience remains distinctive, defined by exceptional service, beautiful décor and carefully crafted food presentation. Above all, we continue to uphold the heart of Thai hospitality in everything we do.
What business strategy did you employ to position Nara as a leading Thai restaurant brand both in Thailand and overseas?
We focus on highlighting authenticity and cultural connection, using traditional recipes and premium ingredients to keep our Thai heritage at the core, no matter where we are. In Thailand, we position Nara in toptier locations like major shopping malls to attract both locals and tourists. Whilst internationally, in the seven countries we operate, we build strong partnerships with our franchisees and jointly select together premium stand-alone locations or high-end shopping malls to open Nara restaurants, ensuring consistent brand positioning across all markets.
What are some key challenges faced by culinary entrepreneurs when expanding their brand internationally?
One key challenge for culinary entrepreneurs expanding internationally is sourcing authentic ingredients, like specific types of herbs or rice that might not be available locally. If that specific herb is important for that dish and is not available, our franchisee will not be able to sell the dish. Another consideration is adapting to local taste. We’ve found that many international markets tend to prefer sweeter flavours and are less accustomed to Nara’s traditional spice levels. When necessary, we adjust the flavour profile while ensuring that overall taste remains aligned with Nara’s quality and identity.
How does sustainability influence menu design and sourcing practices in modern restaurants?
Many restaurants incorporate sustainability into their menu design when it aligns with their mission. At Nara, we contribute by sending our used cooking oil to Bangchak Petroleum, where it is recycled into aviation fuel.

Originating from Japan, sushi and nigiri were first served as modest street food in Tokyo during the Edo period. They were made with fresh fish and vinegared rice. A curation of luxury cars for those who refuse to blend in
India’s luxury car landscape is brimming with surprises, and it’s never been a better moment to look beyond the obvious. Even among the revered marques, the most competent choices aren’t always the ones gracing every billboard. Often overlooked in favour of their best-selling siblings, a new breed of unconventional luxury cars is making waves among the discerning - an allelectric city runabout that charms, a sportback that teases with its verve, or an off-roader reinvented for the connoisseur’s garage. These are the ‘Unusual Suspects’: models that aren’t built to top the sales charts, but to leave an indelible mark with their distinctive presence. Rather than chasing mass appeal, each represents a showcase of its brand’s technical prowess and creative ambition, offering unique footprints, exceptional capabilities, and a thoroughly crafted package that highlights just what is possible when luxury automakers set out to break their own mould.
What elevates their allure at present is the transformative GST rate cut effective from 22nd September, 2025, making these luxo-barges more enticing than ever before. For the discerning aficionado, now is the perfect time to claim a luxury car that tells a different story. To mark this occasion, Business Traveller India has handpicked a selection of cars that don’t just promise prestige, but deliver a distinctive and highly capable package unlike anything else on the road.
Among luxury SUVs, the Lexus LX500d lies on the stealth-wealth wavelength that very few get to experience. The LX500d is the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300’s aristocratic sibling, engineered for sophistication and poise, married to unbeatable off-roading capabilities. On the surface, its well-cut lines and signature Lexus spindle grille carry all the hallmarks of its brand, but beneath, it’s a rugged and capable Toyota. In India, the Land Cruiser legend looms large, often deployed as both a business badge and family fortress, making it a status symbol.
What the LX500d brings to the conversation is a refined layer of polish: think more private-jet lounge than boardroom on wheels.
Expertly tuned by the engineers in Nagoya, the LX500d uses the same 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel as the LC300, good for 304hp and a mountain-moving 700Nm. But beyond the numbers, it’s the way it delivers its torque - smooth, silent, always so effortless, it impresses. Despite its off-road prowess, inside, one is insulated in plush semi-aniline leather, massaging seats, and a Mark Levinson setup that could shame most home theatres.
In the rarefied air where German luxury brands reign supreme, the Lexus LX500d isn’t just an alternative, it’s an outlier, and that’s precisely its appeal. Only keen connoisseurs will recognise just how rare one is on Indian roads; the LX500d’s sales are a trickle compared to German flagships, and that, for a select few, is the ultimate luxury.
Most sub-compact luxury crossovers follow a familiar formula - five seats, a design focused on style over function, and limited versatility. The Mercedes-Benz EQB flips that script. Packing three rows of seating within a compact electric SUV shell, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is a groundbreaking formula in luxury practicality. It’s no mere EV; it’s a masterclass in versatility, designed for the discerning household that demands style, space, and sustainability without compromise.
The EQB’s elegantly sculpted exterior conceals a surprisingly roomy and flexible interior. Three rows fit neatly into the footprint of a smaller SUV, making it one of the few electric vehicles capable of effortlessly ferrying seven adults in hallmark Mercedes comfort.
The instant surge of electric torque provides brisk, silent acceleration, while the zero-emission drivetrain lets urban eco-warriors embrace luxury driving, conscious of their environmental footprint. Often likened to a “baby” GLS, Mercedes’ full-sized flagship SUV, the EQB produces 288 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque through its electric motor, allowing it to sprint to 100kph in 6.2 seconds. It also boasts an impressive range of up to 535 km (WLTP), keeping range anxiety away for those who wish to use it for family getaways.
Inside, the EQB lavishes passengers with Mercedes’ signature plush materials, a high-definition MBUX interface, and a spaciousness that belies its size. Whether negotiating congested city streets or venturing on weekend escapes, this EV effortlessly blends functionality with elegance. For those needing a “one car does it all” solution - a family hauler, an eco-conscious commuter, and a luxury SUV, the EQB is in a class of its own.
In an era dominated by executive luxury sedans and family SUVs, the Audi S5 Sportback stands out as a rare breed. Unlike the longer-wheelbase, chauffeur-oriented sedans that often rule the premium segment, the S5 Sportback is unapologetically driver-focused. Its sleek, low-slung silhouette conceals agility and performance in a package that looks very business on the surface.
Built not for backseat lounging but for the enthusiast who craves the thrill of the wheel, the S5’s turbocharged V6 engine unleashes a punchy 354 horsepower, fused with Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system to deliver unshakable confidence and razor-sharp handling. Whether slicing through German Autobahns or attacking winding country roads, the S5 is built to do both. Inside, the cockpit wraps the driver in a symphony of fine materials, ambient lighting, and digital sophistication that signals sportiness without sacrificing luxury.
The S5 Sportback’s athletic prowess is underscored by an eight-speed automatic transmission and adaptive suspension that balances sharp handling with everyday comfort. A top speed of 250 km/h and a 0–100 km/h sprint in under five seconds cement its credentials - not just stylish, but genuinely fierce behind the wheel.
For enthusiasts who prefer gripping the wheel rather than being chauffeured, the S5 Sportback offers an intoxicating blend of style, agility, and performance. It’s a specialist’s choice in a sea of generalists, delivering sharp handling, a rich exhaust note, and the sporty charisma absent from more sedate offerings, making it the perfect statement for those who demand a visceral connection to their car.
Ask any off-road enthusiast in India about the Land Rover Defender and you will likely get stories involving the 110 or 130 - long-wheelbase, seven-seat titans built for grandeur and adventure. Yet, the most endearing Defender, at least for purists, is the 90. This two-door, short-wheelbase variant channels the original Defender’s spirit: compact, nimble, and genuinely unique in a market dominated by large luxo-barges.
Power comes in the form of a highly capable 3.0 litre six-cylinder Diesel, or an even rarer V8 Petrol engine, that delivers not just performance, but also a thrilling soundtrack from the quad-exhaust pipes that make a statement. Behind the wheel, it’s the Defender’s unique chassis tune and air suspension that transform it from off-road menace to city-savvy style icon. With its lesser footprint, tight approach and departure angles, and classic boxy silhouette, this Land Rover offers go-anywhere ability that few rivals can approach, coupled with a turning radius and agility that are shockingly city-friendly.
Its unyielding off-road capability is further matched by modern refinements: an adaptive air suspension, terrain response technology, and a robust 8-speed automatic transmission ensure both precision and composure. Despite its rugged persona, the Defender 90 offers a surprisingly elegant and tech-savvy cabin, making it a versatile icon on any terrain or city street.
Inside, expect all the signature touches: rubberised flooring for water-wading durability, luxurious appointments such as heated and cooled leather seats, stunning digital displays, and an airy cabin that feels modern but intentionally tactile. In India, the 90 represents the Defender in its purest, most joyful form, an automotive unicorn that dominates tight city streets as it does cresting a rocky outcrop.
In the buzzing luxury electric saloon segment, where Tesla's shadow now looms large, the BMW i4 stands out as a quietly compelling choice that delivers a masterclass in refinement, performance and modern luxury.
Sitting on the same price pedestal as the thrilling BMW M340i, the i4 marries driving excitement with electrified sophistication in a chic four-door coupe shell.
The heart of the i4 beats with a potent 335 hp electric motor paired with BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology, providing instantaneous torque of 430 Nm and effortlessly propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. It’s a car that knows how to reward an eager right foot without ever drifting from its refined composure. Range anxiety is kept at bay with over 500 kilometres on a single charge, a practical figure for both urban commutes and spirited escapes.
Inside, the driver-centric cabin is a carefully crafted space of digital sophistication and tactile luxury. A seamless curved display integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch touchscreen powered by the intuitive iDrive 8.5 system, delivering connectivity and control that is both effortless and immersive.
Premium materials such as Vernasca leather and open-pore wood trims envelop passengers in comfort, while ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon surround sound system deliver concert-quality audio.
While Tesla dazzles with tech, the i4’s charm lies in delivering the ‘ultimate driving electric saloon’ experience—clean, fast, exhilarating, yet effortlessly practical. It’s a nuanced alternative for those who want the thrill of performance without compromising on sophistication or electric credentials
The Mini Countryman Electric occupies a fascinating niche between a hot hatch and compact SUV, giving it a personality unlike anything else available in the market. It’s a package that few can match - part playful, part practical, and entirely designed to make the urban driving experience engaging and enjoyable.
Under the BMW Group umbrella, Mini’s cheeky British soul remains intact in the Countryman Electric; however, it is the first of Minis built by BMW in Germany, away from its home in the United Kingdom. It’s the perfect culmination of British character with German engineering precision. It is inside where this blend of iconic Mini design and modern technology shines. The 9.4inch OLED touchscreen and intuitive MINI Operating System 9 deliver seamless connectivity, while premium materials and clever cabin layout create a cosy yet youthful environment.
Thanks to its electric powertrain that produces 313 horsepower, the Countryman Electric delivers 494 Nm of torque instantaneously which propels it off the line with an urgency that belies its compact frame. The chassis remains taut and responsive, with the nimbleness Mini is beloved for, making light work of India’s chaotic city streets and pothole challenges alike.
Despite its spirited driving demeanour, the Countryman holds firm on practicality. Elevated ride height, ample ground clearance, and clever packaging mean it’s ready for the imperfect roads and daily demands of urban life. For buyers who refuse to choose between fun and function, the Countryman Electric offers a distinctive package. It’s the perfect antidote to cookie-cutter crossovers—small, quick, quirky, and undeniably electric.
WORDS NAINA SARMA
Wine has always been more than a beverage. It is a story of geography, culture, and time distilled into a glass. Yet in today’s climate-aware era, wine also carries the weight of values. Sustainability has shifted from niche to necessity, transforming how the global industry grows, produces, and shares its vintages. For travellers and collectors alike, wine now reflects not just terroir but also ethical choices, carbon footprints, land stewardship, and ecological resilience. Around the world, vineyards are adapting to shifting temperatures, erratic rainfall, and mounting environmental scrutiny. Organic, biodynamic, and regenerative approaches are supplanting chemicalintensive methods, and carbon-neutral production is becoming a marker of prestige. This is not merely environmental rhetoric but also an economic imperative and a cultural recalibration, and the need of the hour. For international travellers, wine has become both a luxury and a lens. A glass of sustainably produced Pinot Noir in Paris or Cabernet in California represents more than just craftsmanship. It reflects authenticity, traceability, and responsibility. To sip sustainably is to participate in a movement where indulgence and integrity coexist, and where each pour carries both pleasure and purpose. Wine has become a conduit for understanding place, culture, and history, increasing the conscious choices of the people and land that produce it. It is a bridge between indulgence and ethics, and a signal that luxury and responsibility can exist in tandem.
Regenerative viticulture goes further by focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration as central pillars of the process
Dry farming can reduce vineyard water use by up to 80%
Regenerative viticulture increases soil organic matter, locking in carbon
Renewable energy now powers over 20% of global wineries
Ironically, many of today’s ‘modern’ sustainable practices are rooted in tradition. Long before fertilisers and machinery, winemakers tended vines with intimate awareness of their environment. The revival of these approaches connects sustainability to cultural preservation. A growing number of regions are safeguarding indigenous grape varietals that were once sidelined by international demand. These grapes, which are often better adapted to local soils and climates, are resilient in the face of change. In Greece, Assyrtiko withstands volcanic soils and heat, while in Hungary, Furmint thrives in damp, misty valleys and in South America, País endures drought conditions. Preserving these grapes not only bolsters biodiversity but also protects regional identity for generations to come and ensures that each bottle carries a sense of place as well as history. Equally vital is terroir, the distinctive interplay of soil, climate, and human touch that defines wine. Unsustainable farming risks eroding terroir itself, flattening centuries of character into anonymity. By embracing organic,
To taste a sustainably farmed, indigenous varietal is to engage with living history, one that reflects both continuity and innovation
biodynamic, and regenerative practices, winemakers ensure terroir is not just preserved but enriched. Thus, connoisseurs gain a deeper understanding of both the craft and the context of each vintage. To taste a sustainably farmed, indigenous varietal is to engage with living history, one that reflects both continuity and innovation. Sustainability then becomes cultural stewardship, an investment in a legacy that ensures the vineyards of tomorrow remain as expressive and storied as those of the past. Wine in this sense becomes a teacher, a connector, and a reminder that responsible practices can safeguard both culture and nature simultaneously.
Organic, free from synthetic pesticides or fertilisers
Biodynamic farming is aligned with lunar cycles and holistic vineyard care
Carbon neutral, emissions measured, reduced, and offset
Sustainable winegrowing, region-specific standards from California to New Zealand
Sustainable wine has redefined the luxury of experience. Because around the world, vineyards are transforming tourism with eco-conscious design and practices. Solar-powered tasting rooms are being built from reclaimed materials and overlook landscapes irrigated by harvested rainwater. Trails lined with wildflowers double as biodiversity corridors, creating havens for pollinators and visitors alike. The appeal lies not just in the wine but in the holistic immersion into landscapes that prioritise harmony rather than exploitation. For the global traveller, sustainable wine tourism represents indulgence with a conscience. It appeals
to the same sensibilities that drive choices in ecoresorts or carbon-neutral airlines and aligns luxury with responsibility. Retail too has evolved, and in airport duty-free lounges, sustainable wines are increasingly spotlighted as premium selections. The bottles carry eco-certifications alongside vintage labels serving as badges of prestige and proof of authenticity. High-end boutiques curate portfolios that privilege ecological credentials as much as critical scores and offer selections that resonate with the values of the modern consumer. Sustainable wine retail is no longer secondary to taste but is part of the storytelling and experience of each purchase. This creates a more thoughtful, connected, and culturally rich buying process.
The rise of sustainable wine mirrors the evolution of global dining. Restaurants are now embracing farm-to-table sourcing and plant-forward menus with which low-intervention wines pair seamlessly, reflecting a shared ethos of freshness, authenticity, and respect for the land. In fine dining, sommeliers have been increasingly designing “green lists” where wines are chosen not only for flavour but also for ecological narrative. Each glass carries a story of soil regeneration, heritage grape revival, and winemaking that respects the rhythms of nature. These lists are not niche but rather markers of sophistication and discernment. Meanwhile, nightlife culture is being reshaped by the rise of natural wine bars. From Paris to New York to Tokyo, these venues attract a younger, cosmopolitan clientele who value transparency and authenticity over convention. Unfiltered, minimal-intervention wines flow alongside conversations about art, design, and culture while sustainable wine becomes part of the urban lifestyle fabric. Pairings are no longer solely about flavour profiles. Because a glass of biodynamic Syrah with a farm-fresh vegetarian dish represents not just gustatory harmony but philosophical alignment. In this way, sustainable wine becomes a cultural companion, elevating both the dining table and the values it represents.
Lighter packaging to cut emissions
Expansion of refillable/reusable wine formats
Greater consumer demand for transparency in sourcing
Sustainability is the baseline, not the premium option
If the last decade marked the emergence of sustainable wine, the coming one may cement it as the new global standard. Packaging innovations lead the way with lighter glass bottles, recyclable alternatives, cans and kegs that reduce shipping emissions. Even luxury producers are experimenting with paper-based bottles, signalling that prestige and innovation can coexist. For travellers and collectors, sustainable wine is no longer a niche indulgence but a lifestyle statement. Choosing such a bottle is akin to choosing a hybrid car, an eco-certified hotel, or responsibly sourced fashion because it signals discernment, cultural awareness, and responsibility. Ultimately, sustainable wine embodies a philosophy, showing that true luxury lies not in excess but in harmony with land, culture, and community. To raise a glass of sustainably produced wine is to toast not just craftsmanship but the preservation of landscapes, the resilience of traditions, and the possibility of a future where indulgence and responsibility coexist beautifully. The future pour therefore represents taste and values, offering a vision of wine as a medium through which travellers, collectors, and enthusiasts can engage meaningfully with both heritage and the environment.

Naina Sarma revisits India’s aviation journey in 2018, where bold reforms and rising demand have steered the industry closer to global leadership.
In 2018, the industry was at an inflexion point: UDAN had just launched, Air India’s disinvestment was only being debated, and forecasts predicted India would become the world’s third-largest aviation market by 2025. Much of what was anticipated and forecasted has already taken shape, albeit with its own set of challenges.
When first announced, UDAN was a bold vision to connect underserved and unserved airports. In 2018, it was just three routes old. Today, it has grown into a cornerstone of India’s aviation expansion, linking over 450 routes and bringing air travel to towns once considered remote. While viability remains a hurdle for some operators, the programme has undeniably reshaped domestic mobility, helping regional carriers carve out a niche and boosting Tier II and III economies.
The easing of the 5/20 rule changed the game for younger carriers. Vistara, a newcomer then, is now a full-service airline with a strong international footprint. AirAsia India, once gearing up for overseas routes, has since been absorbed into Air India Express. These consolidations signal India’s intent to create globally competitive carriers that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with international rivals.
EASING INVESTMENT
Hopes of large-scale foreign investment in Indian airlines have not materialised as once imagined. Instead, the domestic market has consolidated around a few dominant players, IndiGo on one side, and the Tata Group’s
portfolio on the other. While Gulf carriers have maintained interest, the real story has been India’s inward consolidation, driven by strategic mergers and homegrown scale.
SECURITY MAKE-OVERS
The removal of baggage tags was the first step towards smoother airport experiences. Today, biometric boarding under DigiYatra has taken passenger processing into a new era. What was once an experiment in efficiency has become the foundation of a digital-first airport ecosystem.
FALL
In 2018, Air India’s privatisation was uncertain. Today, it is a reality. With Tata Group at the helm, the airline is undergoing an ambitious transformation, signalling not just the revival of a legacy brand but also the renewed global aspirations of Indian aviation.
