COPENHAGEN LAUNCHES GLOBAL DESTINATIONPAY TOURISM MODEL COPENHAGEN HAS UNVEILED DESTINATIONPAY, a global tourism framework designed to help cities worldwide reward travellers for positive, communitybenefiting actions. Introduced on the main stage of the European Tourism Forum, the model builds on the success of CopenPay. This awardwinning initiative enables visitors to earn cultural rewards for simple good deeds, from removing litter from the canals to cycling to museums.

Developed by Wonderful Copenhagen, DestinationPay offers destinations a ready-to-use structure, shared data, and an implementation playbook. The initiative responds to strong global interest, with more than 100 destinations already seeking guidance, and comes as international tourism is projected to reach 1.8 billion arrivals by 2030.

Several cities are already adapting the model. Berlin is preparing to launch BerlinPay next summer, while the Normandy region in France is aligning its existing lowcarbon discount scheme with DestinationPay principles.

To support adoption, Wonderful Copenhagen will host a free global webinar in February, granting destinations access to two years of learnings, tools, and insights.

CopenPay’s impact has been significant, with over 30,000 voluntourists, participation from more than 100 local partners, a 59% rise in bike rentals, and seven in ten visitors reporting more conscious travel habits afterwards. EMIRATES INTRODUCES PREMIUM ECONOMY ON RETROFITTED BOEING 777S TO BEIRUT & BEIJING EMIRATES HAS ANNOUNCED THAT ITS NEWLY RETROFITTED BOEING 777 AIRCRAFT featuring the airline’s acclaimed Premium Economy cabin will begin flying between Dubai and Beirut from 6 January 2026 and Beijing from 1 February 2026.

The deployments mark a significant expansion of Emirates’ next-generation onboard products on long-haul narrow-body services. Private flights emerge as a new status symbol India’s luxury wedding landscape is witnessing an unusual but telling shift. Affluent families are increasingly turning to private jet charters to ferry guests to destination celebrations, elevating travel from a logistical necessity into a defining element of the wedding experience itself. According to aviation service providers, enquiries for bespoke charter flights designed exclusively for wedding entourages have risen sharply in recent seasons, underscoring how travel is now being reimagined as part of the ceremony rather than a means to reach it.

This trend is closely tied to India’s booming destination wedding market. With celebrations spread across locations such as Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala, and extending to international favourites including the UAE, Thailand and parts of Europe, private aviation offers a compelling alternative to commercial travel. Charter flights provide families with a level of control and flexibility that scheduled airlines simply cannot offer. Departure times can be customised, itineraries adjusted at short notice and large groups can be moved together without the fragmentation that often comes with multiple commercial bookings.

Why today’s premium travel is increasingly defined by intention

There was a time when luxury travel ran on excess by default.

Towels were replaced twice a day, minibars restocked whether touched or not, turndown performed regardless of arrival time, and breakfast buffets stretched far beyond appetite. Comfort came preloaded, unquestioned, and generously abundant.

That version of luxury still exists, yet it no longer defines the experience.

Today’s premium traveller encounters a different rhythm.

Housekeeping enters on request, linen changes follow clear signals, minibars arrive edited rather than overflowing, and breakfast favours quality over sheer volume. These shifts do not register as a restraint. Instead, they feel measured and intentional.

Sustainability has reshaped expectations by changing how services are delivered. Luxury is no longer imposed uniformly; it responds. Guests are invited to choose rather than receive automatically, and those small decisions gently guide behaviour.

For operators, the impact is equally tangible. Laundry loads shrink, food waste declines, and services align more closely with actual demand. What stands out is how readily this new approach has been embraced at the higher end of the market. The absence of constant replenishment is no longer interpreted as economising.

Instead, it signals discernment, awareness, and a contemporary understanding of luxury. Having everything at all times has given way to having what is needed, when it is needed.

Automatic luxury once defined indulgence. Today, intentional luxury feels more relevant, more refined, and far better suited to the way we travel now.

Preparing meals for long-haul flights comes with unique challenges. For example, the food needs to maintain its quality after reheating, work for a varied age group, be sensitive to common allergens, and one of the biggest challenges is presentation meals have to be designed so that the cabin crew can plate them easily on board.

For us, presentation is extremely important, especially since passengers often take photos of their meals before eating.

2) How is the food and selection different on Thai Airways, especially in the new premium cabin?

Our menus are consistent across all routes, regardless of the aircraft. What sets us apart is the destination-specific selection.

Lufthansa’s culinary team balances variety with consistency across a global network. Dishes must account for altered taste perception at altitude, often requiring adjustments such as reduced salt levels. Menus are designed to appeal to international palates while retaining signature German elements. Our menus are planned for a three-month period, during which we require a reliable and consistent supply of products of very high quality.

Due to the large quantities needed, not all suppliers can meet these requirements.

2) How is the food and selection different on Lufthansa, especially in premium cabins?

First Class: First Class dining is built around flexibility and refinement, with guests choosing when they wish to dine. Menus feature up to four appetisers and main courses, an extensive cheese and dessert selection, and a signature caviar service presented as a dedicated course with classic accompaniments. On routes to and from China, South Korea, India, and Japan, at least one local dish is always included. A curated wine and champagne programme is overseen by four Masters of Wine.

Business Class: Business Class menus span European classics and international dishes, with a focus on freshness and quality. Handcrafted bread, developed exclusively for Lufthansa by World Baker of the Year 2022 Alex Schmitt, is served on all long-haul flights departing Germany. Service begins with an amuse-bouche, followed by a choice of three appetisers and three mains, alongside dessert and cheese. Guests can pre-order from up to nine main-course options on select routes, with vegetarian dishes available in all cabins.

Each spoonful felt thoughtful, the flavours building in soft layers. The rye cracker on the side brought a welcome contrast with its crisp, nutty, and satisfying crunch, adding the kind of detail that elevates a simple dish.

The Agnello alla Scottadito shifted the evening into a more expressive mood. The New Zealand Lumina lamb chops were tender, with a blush at the centre and a natural sweetness that came through clearly. The gorgonzola sauce added depth with its savoury tang, wrapping the lamb in richness while still allowing its flavour to shine. It felt like a celebration of the ingredient rather than a performance around it that was generous, assured, and deeply gratifying.

Dessert closed the experience with Sophia’s tiramisu, a classic

prepared with a light touch.

The espresso soaked into the ladyfingers with a pleasing bitterness, balanced by cool, silky mascarpone. A dusting of cocoa gave the final lift. It was familiar in the best way, but done with the finesse that makes return visits feel inevitable.

The meal carried a rhythm that was warm, composed, and expressive, the sort of evening that stays with you long after the table is cleared.

Built in the 9th century under King Chanda of the Nikumbha dynasty, the stepwell reveals itself slowly, as thousands of perfectly angled steps descend in hypnotic repetition, drawing the eye downward into cool shadow. This was architecture as survival: a brilliant response to Rajasthan’s brutal summers, designed to harvest monsoon rainwater and offer refuge from the heat long before the language of sustainability existed.

At 13 storeys deep and nearly 100 feet below ground, the baori’s symmetry feels almost unreal, a precise labyrinth where light shifts across stone throughout the day. The effect is both meditative and slightly disorienting, which may explain why filmmakers have repeatedly returned here, from The Dark Knight Rises to The Fall.

Beside it stands the Harsh Mata Temple, quieter but no less ancient, reminding visitors that Chand Baori was as much a communal and spiritual space as it was an engineering feat.
