EDITOR'S NOTE
Fall 2022 Issue 5
I invite you all to close your eyes and imagine what Fall means to you. How does it smell? Does it have a sound? A color? Any flavor? What memories does it bring?
For me, Fall is the new beginning. The beginning of a new school year, new challenges, new projects. It is the time when I get more focused and organized. Summer usually brings the feeling of freedom, less planning, and more spontaneous decision. Meanwhile, September is like a New Year for me. When everything falls into the "right" places, it is harvest time for the Earth. It is time to slow down and rest and recover. In this catalog, I hope you find a lot of suitable activities to help your Fall to be even better. We will have quite a few painting classes and pottery workshops. Also, we will be working with fiber and making beautiful art from fabric, digging deeper into how to get the best shot with a camera. If you have always wanted to try yourself at making shoes from scratch, this season is your chance. Don't miss it! Moreover, don't miss your chance to learn Japanese! Halle Robertson will be teaching Introductory Japanese to adults and Introductory Japanese for kids (8-18) here, at the Painted Sky Center for the arts. This and even more fun are ahead.

A camper shares a 3D Tiki Hut that she made as we talked about Florida and East Coast artists.
Children have shown abundant creativity in their drawings, paintings, crafts, and more! Besides learning about artists from around the world and art techniques, they played fun games, learned new songs, and made new friends! We appreciate the children, parents, teachers, and wonderful assistants! The experience was positive and unforgettable!
Miss Angel Carpenter
Painted Sky's summer programming for the youth was an adventure around the world learning about arts and cultures in different regions around the world each week. We had the kids learn about where these countries were and what countries were around them. They then would learn about artists who live and create in these places. Each week Ms. Katie would teach them songs with one song in the language of the country and one song about the country. Here are a couple of the assistants from camp during India week. Diya, on the left is from India!

Two paintings by Adventures around the World Summer Day Camp youth. Our drawings were inspired by a painting by Lithuanian artist Laimonas Smergelis’ called “Memory Gallery.” Children drew an elephant with markers and added small picture frames with their favorite memories.
Campers learned about East Coast USA artist Edward Hopper, and we painted a 3D lighthouse!

BEGINNING HAND BUILDING & WHEEL THROWING Mondays and Thursdays, September 12 - October 06, 6:00 PM 8:00 PM (8 sessions)
This is a great class for beginners to do ceramics! In this class, students will learn the principles of hand building, and wheel throwing and become familiar with the clay process. The first half of the course will cover the techniques of pinch, slab, and coil building as students build and glaze their own plate, bowl, and mug set to take home Next will be an introduction to the potter's wheel, focusing on the core skills of wedging, centering, opening, and pulling walls to create a cylinder, steps which are the foundation of all thrown pots Kara Mae Doescher I started doing pottery in high school and instantly fell in love with it. I took as many ceramics classes in college as I could fit into a busy schedule I can't resist the methodical but messy nature of making pottery, and I love being able to make beautiful but useful pieces Since moving to Grant County, I've been so happy to find a ceramics studio with such an incredibly kind, welcoming community of artists When I'm not playing with mud in the studio you can find me doing something (anything!) outdoors with my border collie, baking, and trying out any kind of arts and crafts.
Like so many other potters, I was first introduced to clay in a high school ceramics class. By senior year, I was taking most of my lunches in the ceramics room with the other art geeks, spending as much time playing with clay as I could. But, again, it was the clay’s versatility that I was drawn to. You can make it look like anything you can imagine tree bark, skin, leather, metal you name it! And the meditative spin of a wheel, who can resist that? Paddock
Come learn the basics of throwing on the wheel! We will learn how to center clay, open a form, pull walls, shape, trim, and glaze through demos and lots of hands on practice

Painted Sky Center for the Arts now operates the county's first and only after-school program, offering visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, and music classes. The art center’s board members, staff, and volunteers are invested in developing an art centric, equitable community focused on healthy living through the arts. These individuals have been actively engaged with and listening to community members to determine the needs in Grant County.
Painted Sky Center for the Arts first opened its doors in August of 2018. We are the first and only art center in Grant County. All of this happened thanks to local volunteers who had an idea and worked diligently to bring artists and interested residents together to make Painted Sky Center for the Arts come to fruition.
