Calificando el verano de Qualifying the Big las Potencias Europeas European Clubs’ Summer Terminó el que fue probablemente el verano futbolero más loco de la historia. Grandes estrellas cambiaron sus colores (algunos gratis), y los equipos más poderosos del mundo se verán distintos, para bien o para mal. Vamos a darles una calificación. BARCELONA: MANITA ABAJO Los culés pasaron en 4 años de tener en su delantera a Suárez, Neymar, Griezmann, además del G.O.A.T., a quedarse con Dembelé, Braithwaite, Luuk de Jong, Ansu Fati, “Kun” Agüero (que ni quiere estar ahí) y Memphis Depay (el único clase mundial). Las malas administraciones del club los condenaron, pero ha dado varios pasos hacia atrás en los últimos años. La vida sin Messi no será fácil, al menos no de inicio. REAL MADRID: MANITA ABAJO Los merengues se dedicaron a repatriar. Regresaron a Bale y Jovic de sus préstamos, y a Ancelotti a la dirección técnica, donde ya estuvo entre 2013 y 2015. Por un momento pensaron que tendrían a Mbappé, pero ninguna cantidad fue suficiente para el PSG. La buena, al menos se hicieron de una futura estrella como Camavinga, además del multifacético Alaba. La mala: dejaron ir a su pareja de centrales con la que ganaron 4 Champions: Varane y Ramos, este último totalmente gratis.

CHELSEA: APLAUSOS ¿Cómo mejoras un equipo que acaba de ganar la Champions? Con pocos fichajes pero que sean de impacto. Les hacía falta un delantero matón: desembolsaron €155 millones por Lukaku, uno de los mejores del mundo. Necesitaban otro centrocampista de posesión: consiguieron a préstamo y de último momento a Saúl Ñíguez. Los blues serán aún mejores este año. MANCHESTER UNITED: MANITA ARRIBA Pocos fichajes, pero todos de calidad mundial. Raphael Varane a reforzar la central. Jadon Sancho, futura estrella. Y el regreso del hijo pródigo, y el segundo G.O.A.T. que cambia de playera este verano: Cristiano Ronaldo. ¿Suficiente para volver a levantar títulos tras 4 años de sequía? Falta por verse.

PSG: aplausos Lionel Messi. Sergio Ramos. Gigio Donnarumma. Gigi Wijnaldum. Todos ellos por la cantidas total de $0 (o más bien €0). Además, el único traspaso pagado, de Achram Hakimi, ha sido un éxito inmediato. Por si fuera poco, Mbappé terminó por quedarse al menos un año más. Los parisinos tienen ahora la mejor plantilla del mundo de lejos, y el único problema es sobrellevar la presión de ganar la Champions.
La llegada de Locatelli y el regreso de Moise Kean y Massimo Allegri podrían ser suficientes para ganar la Serie A, pero no para competir en Europa.
Cuando solamente pierdes dos jugadores, pero esos son Cristiano Ronaldo y Gigi Buffon, aun si juntos suman casi 80 años, evidentemente tuviste un mal verano.
What was probably the craziest soccer summer ever ended. Big stars changed their colors (some for free), and the world's most powerful teams will look different, for better or for worse. JUVENTUS: THUMBS DOWN When you only lose two players, but those are Cristiano Ronaldo and Gigi Buffon, even if together they are almost 80 years old, you obviously had a bad summer. The arrival of Locatelli and the returns of Moise Kean and Massimo Allegri could be enough to win Serie A, but not to compete in Europe. CHELSEA: APPLAUSE

How do you improve a team that has just won the Champions League? With few but impactful signings. They needed a lead striker: they spent €155 million for Lukaku, one of the best at it in the world. They needed another possession midfielder: they got Saúl Ñíguez on loan and at the buzzer. The blues will be even better this year. MANCHESTER THUMBS UP

Few signings, but all worldclass quality. Raphael Varane to reinforce the central defense. Jadon Sancho, future star. And the return of the prodigal son, and the second GOAT to change shirts this summer: Cristiano Ronaldo. Enough to lift any titles after 4 years of drought? It remains to be seen.
