On September 10th, 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of Catalon at Lago Mar luxury apartments was held in conjunction with Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and Texas City/La Marque Chamber of Commerce. Reaching New Heights Great companies are made up of great leaders. Tony Walker is one of those leaders and he continues to serve passionately as he celebrates his 12th year with Oldham Goodwin. Tony serves as the Director of Facilities Management for the Hospitality Management Services, where he oversees the growth and performance of the men and women who care for the physical assets we use to accommodate our guests. Walker began an interest in photography, maintenance, and air conditioning during his time growing up in Mineral Wells, Texas. “At the age of 16, I started working during high school and summers with my brother in air conditioning. After graduating I took off with air conditioning and depending on where I was living at the time, Drone photo of Hyatt Place College Station taken by Walker I was able to do some apartment maintenance,” says Walker. “When I first started at Oldham Goodwin in 2007, I was working on the multifamily side of things. That was for about a month. Hunter Goodwin had heard how hard I worked and asked if I wanted to work with Hawthorn Suites in the hospitality division. I was the chief engineer for one day and by the next day I was made the Dual Engineer of Hawthorn and Hyatt Place,” said Walker. Although Tony’s rise to Corporate Director was meteoric, his ambition has always been to serve others and not himself. He has learned and grown with Oldham Goodwin, working on new build projects, renovations, special projects, and disaster recovery. “I had a bit of hands-on experience with Hilton Garden Inn Granbury, but the very first one I was with from the ground up was Best Western Premier Bryan. Our new hotel SpringHill Suites in Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is a different animal. It’s way more involved and has a lot more moving parts. It’s a big challenge and I am looking forward to getting it opened soon!” One of the more unique qualities Tony with his family on vacation in Ignacio, Colorado

Tony brings to the table is his photography and video work using drones. He is able to use drones to inspect what major projects have been completed or see if our hotels were damaged during a storm. His ability to see places that are normally a little hard to see helps bring an extra level of safety for our employees. Tony attributes his interest in drone photography to videos on YouTube he found. “I stumbled across some drone work videos on YouTube and there was one guy in particular who was very good. I got my first little drone shortly after that and it has just kept growing from there. Now, any time I travel to one of our hotels, the drone comes with me!” In his time with Oldham Goodwin, Tony has become a true subject matter expert, but what sets him apart is his ability to mentor and lead engineering staff. Under his leadership, Oldham Goodwin hotels maintain high asset quality, limited costs, and most importantly, low maintenance staff turnover.

When asked what one of his favorite memories of his time with Oldham Goodwin has been, he said “We went to a Brazos Valley Lodging Association meeting right after the Best Western Premier opened. I was told they had some extra seats for lunch at Christopher’s World Grille. During the meeting, they started announcing awards and I was surprised with the Hospitality Associate of the Year award for Bryan/College Station. I had no idea. It was a nice surprise.” Tony’s success and longevity are due to his hard work and willingness to go above and beyond for Oldham Goodwin and his colleagues. If you ask him, he will tell you it’s because of the people around him. “The people here are a big part of the reason I have been here so long. The honest feedback you get from working with people you can trust is great. Hunter and Cole (VP of Hospitality) have been there with me since day one and from the beginning, they told me the company plan and they have stuck with making the hospitality division grow.” Drone photo of the Davis Mountains taken by Walker
