LETTER FROM THE VP OF LOCAL CONTENT

Hello Everyone,

My name is Susan Cadot. I am the Vice President of Production at OETA. To begin, a hearty “Thank You” for being a member of our little family. Your support means we can keep producing Oklahomacentered content to build pride in our great state, in our neighbors, and in ourselves.

In my capacity, I oversee the three departments that create local content. They are news, production, and documentary. I’d like to tell you about those departments. Our news team consists of nine journalists and videographers. You can watch their excellent work and learn more about at OETA.tv/ONR. Rich Lenz leads as News Director and Anchor. Lenz has deep roots in Oklahoma and is a seasoned journalist with a passion for his team’s mission to educate, inspire, and connect Oklahomans. Under his leadership, the Oklahoma News Report team won a Heartland Regional Emmy Award for its collective work on a year-long special series of reports that featured historical Black Towns in Oklahoma. The series of reports has since been made into a curriculum that adheres to state education standards for inclusion in classrooms across Oklahoma. You can watch this team’s thoughtful and in-depth reports on issues that affect your life every Friday night at 7:00 on OETA.

The OETA Production Department consists of seven team members who oversee all local productions in the studio, as well as special events such as gubernatorial inaugurations and the annual State of the State address. Their work for these events provides access to all television and radio stations across Oklahoma, which can share it with their respective audiences. Besides studio productions and special events, this team also produces digital content, a relatively new undertaking for OETA. One of the team series, Aquí en Oklahoma, is designed to help the state’s Spanish-speaking neighbors learn about the place they call home. This series of short stories won regional Emmy Awards for each of its first two years of production. Check out the series at OETA.tv/aqui.

Finally, the OETA Documentary Department has five team members and regularly produces two programs. One is called Gallery America. It shines a spotlight on Oklahoma artists. The other is called Back in Time, and its focus is on Oklahoma history. Besides winning several regional Emmy Awards, national awards, and other honors from state journalism organizations, these two shows have produced content that has been adapted into curriculum, similar to news, for Oklahoma classrooms.

Documentary and Production work together to produce the mainstay of Oklahoma Saturday nights, the OETA Movie Club, whose companion podcast has been named one of the Top 100 Classic Movie Podcasts by MillionPodcasts.com.

OETA’s local content teams often hear the words, “We serve Oklahoma with excellence.”

This is OETA for you.

250 YEARS IN THE MAKING:

REVOLUTION THE AMERICAN

COMES TO OETA

Few events have reshaped the world like the American Revolution. At once a war for independence, a civil war, and a global conflict, it transformed thirteen colonies into a new republic whose ideals still echo today.

This month, OETA presents The American Revolution, a landmark six-part, 12-hour series from acclaimed filmmakers Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt.

Premiering Sunday, November 16 at 7 PM, the series continues nightly through Friday, November 21.

Eight years in the making, the series explores the conflict through the eyes of political leaders, British officials, enslaved and free African Americans, Native nations, European allies, Loyalists, and ordinary families caught in the war. Narrated by Peter Coyote, it features performances by Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks, and many more.

Timed to the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, The American Revolution is both sweeping and intimate, a story of triumph, sacrifice, and possibility that continues to shape our nation today.

Think Wednesday

OETA’s Think Wednesday lineup this November takes you from bustling city streets to the edges of space and deep into ancient civilizations. On November 4, Nature: The Pigeon Hustle uncovers the hidden lives of the 400 million pigeons sharing our world – brilliant navigators, devoted partners, and surprising urban survivors. Then, in

the two-part special NOVA: Operation Space Station, astronauts and Mission Control insiders reveal terrifying life-or-death moments aboard the International Space Station. The evening continues with Secrets of the Dead: Princes in the Tower, exploring one of history’s greatest cold cases, the disappearance of two princes in the Tower of London, and whether they were murdered by their uncle, the infamous King Richard III, or lost to a larger conspiracy to conceal the truth.

On November 12, Nature: Jaguar Beach follows the powerful encounters of resurgent jaguars and nesting sea turtles along Central America’s Pacific coast. Operation Space Station brings even more gripping tales of science and survival, while Secrets of the Dead: Picturing Shakespeare investigates whether a newly discovered portrait could be worth $200 million.

Leticia Bajuyo

OU Professor Leticia Bajuyo transforms discarded objects into monumental works of art, asking us to reflect on waste and what we truly value as a society. For her latest project at Oklahoma City’s Contemporary Arts Museum, Bajuyo assembles a 40-foot-long installation using thousands of recycled CDs, turning landfill-bound materials into shimmering sculpture.

Cameras follow her process, capturing the physical and creative challenges of working at such scale, as well as her thoughtprovoking vision of renewal and transformation. This episode of Gallery America is a story of ingenuity, sustainability, and reimagining what others throw away.
