LETTER FROM THE INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

One of the most special things about public television is how it makes learning feel like a natural part of everyday life. It’s not just for kids or classrooms. It’s for all of us, at every age and stage.

At OETA, we believe that curiosity doesn’t stop once school ends. If anything, it grows. That’s why we work hard to offer programs that teach, inspire, and open our eyes to something new. Whether it’s a young child discovering the alphabet with PBS KIDS, or an adult getting swept up in the latest science breakthrough on NOVA, there’s something for everyone to learn here.

Think Wednesday is one of my favorite nights of the week. It’s when we dive into the natural world, explore big ideas, and uncover stories that make science feel alive. Documentaries from filmmakers like Ken Burns help us see how the past still shapes our world today, while American Experience takes us deep into the pivotal moments that have defined our nation. And shows like Finding Your Roots remind us how personal history can be and help us better understand where we come from.

OETA is here to inspire lifelong learning, every day of the week. Thank you for making us part of your journey and for supporting programs that inform, inspire, and connect communities across Oklahoma.

Warmly,

VIEWER COMMENTS

I just want to say thank you. Thanks for your storytelling and pursuit of the truth. We need you now and forever.

PBS and OETA do an outstanding job. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Keep up the amazing work.

Thank you for your tireless efforts in making OETA programming possible. You are valued and appreciated.

RED, & RIVETING WHITE

OETA’s Fall Programming Marks America’s 250th with the Stories That Shaped a Nation

As the U.S. marches toward its 250th birthday, OETA is rolling out a slate of programming as grand and complex as the country itself. At the center of this ambitious initiative is PBS America @ 250, a sweeping, multiyear tribute to our nation’s past, present, and future.

Kicking off with American Experience: Nixon on Sept. 2, viewers are pulled into the contradictions of a man who redefined power and ultimately imploded under it. That same night, The American Vice President sheds light on a role once deemed ceremonial, now pivotal. Ken Burns’ Prohibition returns Sept. 5, 12, and 19, to unravel a nation battling its own vices and values.

Becoming Thurgood (Sept. 9) and American Experience: FDR (Sept. 9 & 16) offer towering portraits of two men who reshaped justice and leadership in America. Finally, Hard Hat Riot (Sept. 30) captures a clash of ideology that echoes into today’s headlines.

Through PBS America @ 250, OETA brings these essential stories to life, layered, nuanced, and urgent. This isn’t just television. It’s a front-row seat to the American experiment, told by the voices who lived it, questioned it, and dared to change it.

Think Wednesday

Predators, Pilgrimages, and the People We Became: OETA’s Think Wednesday Roars into September

Wednesday nights on OETA return with purpose. This September, Think Wednesday delivers gripping new seasons and cinematic storytelling that’s as intellectually rich as it is visually stunning. Leading the charge: the return of Big Cats 24/7, a breathtaking deep dive into the wild heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. With a two-hour season premiere on September 10, witness local and international filmmakers track lions, leopards, and cheetahs around the clock. From a fractured lion pride to floodwaters threatening leopard cubs, this is feline drama at its finest.

On September 17, NOVA premieres Human, an ambitious five-part series tracing the improbable rise of Homo sapiens. Guided by paleoanthropologist Ella Al-Shamahi, viewers travel from ancient fossil beds to cutting-edge labs, uncovering how our interactions with longextinct cousins shaped who we are today.

Also premiering September 10, Sacred Planet with Gulnaz Khan brings spirituality and climate science into conversation. From Colombia’s Arhuaco people to Japan’s sacred forests and Africa’s Sahel, the four-part series explores how faith communities are confronting ecological change with ancient wisdom and modern resilience.

Whether you’re fascinated by apex predators, early humans, or sacred ecosystems, Think Wednesday invites you to explore the big ideas shaping our past, present, and future only on OETA.

What to Watch

POV: The Bitter Pill

Monday, September 22 at 9 PM

This powerful documentary follows attorney Paul Farrell Jr. as he takes on Big Pharma to fight for his opioid-stricken West Virginia hometown. His bold legal strategy sparks a nationwide reckoning, turning one small-town case into the largest civil litigation in U.S. history.

Dynamic Planet

Wednesday at 10 PM beginning September 10

Dynamic Planet spans seven continents in a breathtaking four-part series exploring the frontlines of climate change. With stunning visuals and urgent storytelling, it reveals how science, nature, and tradition might help us survive, and thrive, in a rapidly changing world.

An Intimate Portrait Of An Artist Redefining Expression By Feel, Not Sight.

Step into the tactile world of Tulsa ceramic artist Amy Sanders De Melo, whose work bridges loss and connection through clay. Facing progressive vision and hearing loss from Usher syndrome,

De Melo channels her evolving senses into deeply textured pieces that speak in braille, both literally and metaphorically. With each mark and curve, her ceramics invite touch, evoke emotion, and foster community. Her art is a meditative practice, a language of resilience, and a reminder of how creativity can adapt, endure, and inspire.

Tune in Thursday, September 4 at 7 PM on OETA.
