OETA and keep trusted, commercial-free programming thriving for all Oklahomans.

LETTER FROM THE INTERIM

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

For nearly 70 years, OETA has provided free educational kids’ content, original local news, arts, and lifelong learning, no subscription required. Scan the QR code or visit OETA.tv/donate to help power this essential service for your community.

The recent federal funding cuts present a significant challenge for OETA, representing nearly $2 million of our annual budget and affecting areas from programming and educational outreach to our broadcasting infrastructure. We’re assessing the full impact and are building a strategy to address it. We are committed to maintaining the quality content and services you and your fellow Oklahomans rely on. So many of you have stepped up to help make sure we are able to do so.

That commitment was powerfully reaffirmed at our recent event at the Oklahoma City Zoo featuring Clifford the Big Red Dog. Seeing the pure joy on the faces of families as they met Clifford and hearing stories about how OETA has shaped generations, from providing crucial educational content to sharing the unique stories of our state, was incredibly heartening. Those moments remind us why we must continue our mission.

Thank you for standing with OETA!

WILD, HUMAN, ANCIENT

This October, OETA’s Think Wednesday returns with a month of awe-inspiring stories from the natural and human worlds.

The journey begins Oct. 1 with Nature: Big Cats 24/7, capturing the struggles of leopards and cheetahs in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. NOVA: Human: Neanderthal Encounters explores why our ancestors survived while Neanderthals vanished, while Sacred Planet: Reclaiming Peru’s Glaciers reveals the intersection of faith and climate science.

Mid-month, Nature: Dracula’s Hidden Kingdom, narrated by Jeremy Irons, showcases wolves, bears, and lynx in Transylvania’s wild forests.

NOVA: Human: Building Empires uncovers how ancient inventions shaped civilization, and Secrets of the Dead: Cleopatra’s Last Temple brings new light to the iconic queen.

Later, climate and crisis take center stage with Walrus: Life on Thin Ice, Ancient Desert Death Trap, and Lucy Worsley Investigates: Bloody Mary.

Finally, on Oct. 29, Nature: Willow: Diary of a Mountain Lion closes the month with a decadelong study of a Montana predator, followed by episodes on floods, plague, and pandemics.

Tune in every Wednesday night on OETA.

GREEN CORN REBELLION

In August 1917, tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and Socialists in three Oklahoma counties rose up to resist the draft and oppose World War I in what became known as the Green Corn Rebellion.

Fueled by falling crop prices, land speculation, and long-standing grievances against wealthy landowners and authorities, hundreds, including white, African American, and Native American men, planned to march to Washington.

The uprising exposed deep social and economic tensions in early twentieth-century Oklahoma and left a lasting mark on the state’s history.
