Thank you for your continued support of OETA, which allows us to provide such quality programming! If you would like to opt in to the digital version, please see below to sign up.
Executive Director, OETAFirst in line is American Experience: The Sun Queen. For nearly 50 years, chemical engineer and inventor Mária Telkes applied her prodigious intellect to harnessing the power of the sun. She designed and built the world’s first successfully solar-heated modern residence and identified a promising new chemical that, for the first time, could store solar heat like a battery. And yet, along the way, she was undercut and thwarted by her boss and colleagues — all men — at MIT. Despite these obstacles, Telkes persevered and, upon her death in 1995, held more than 20 patents. Telkes was remarkable in her vision and tenacity — a scientist and a woman in every way ahead of her time. Her research and innovations from the 1930s through the ‘70s continue to shape how we power our lives today. American Experience: The Sun Queen premieres Tuesday, April 4 at 8:00 pm.
Next up is Changing Planet. This program is an unprecedented seven-year global reporting effort launched by PBS and the BBC to monitor climate change in six of the planet’s most vulnerable ecosystems. Led by global conservation scientist Dr. M. Sanjayan, the project travels from California to Kenya, the Arctic to Southeast Asia to highlight the latest science and explore communities pioneering efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
As PBS and Dr. Sanjayan return each Earth Day for the next seven years, audiences will meet winners and losers, and encounter positive impacts and reasons for hope. Changing Planet premieres Wednesday, April 19 at 8:00 pm.
Lastly, we bring you an all new NOVA
The U.S. recently set an ambitious climate change goal: to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and slash emissions in half by 2030. But is that even feasible? What exactly would it take? NOVA: Chasing Carbon Zero takes a hard look at the problem and identifies the most likely real-world technologies that could be up to the task. From expanding the availability of renewable energy options, to designing more energyefficient buildings, and revolutionizing the transportation sector, the film casts a hopeful but skeptical eye. A wave of innovation is beginning to take hold, but can these solutions be scaled and made available and affordable across the country? The problem is vast and time is running out, but there is still hope that we can achieve carbon zero in time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. NOVA: Chasing Carbon Zero premieres Wednesday, April 26 at 8:00 pm.
As we continue to work towards a sustainable future, OETA invites you to watch a line-up of powerful environmental programs that examine the issues our planet is currently facing. The Sun Queen Chasing Carbon Zero Tune-in or watch live at oeta.tv

The Comic Book Show
Thursday, April 6 at 7:00 pm
Comic books aren’t just for kids. Particularly not in Oklahoma, which has a flourishing comic book scene creating comics meant for all ages. For their newest episode, Gallery America goes deep into the state’s world of comics to talk with Literati Press (one of the region’s biggest comic publishers), a Broken Arrowbased Japanese manga artist, and an OU student who lived out a childhood dream to make a comic – then got some bad news. Join us, and you’ll never look at a comic book the same way again.
Digging the Wagon Road
Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 pm
Scratch the surface anywhere in Oklahoma and you are likely to find evidence of the state’s rich and storied past. Hinton Historical Museum curator Art Peters has spent years digging in back yards and farmer’s fields all across the state. He’s looking for rusted bits of metal left behind by immigrants looking for a faster route to the 1880’s California gold rush. Their wagon trains moved through the middle of Oklahoma and their campsites still tell the stories of what the journey was like through the items they lost or left behind. Stories of courage, tragedy, and romance.
