As always, live music, in its many and varied forms, is going to be very big this season with many music festivals inviting some of the biggest names in music today to perform here on the Costa del Sol. Summer is here and that means the hammock season is in full swing. What better way to enjoy the warm, beautiful weather than by hanging a hammock to enjoy a summer siesta? There are many methods for setting up hammocks, each with their own benefits and disadvantages. The method you choose ultimately depends on how you plan to use your hammock and whether you have a permanent or temporary set up in mind.

AsI am sure all or most of you are aware, it is not permitted to take your dog onto a public beach here in Southern Spain, unless of course, it is a designated dog beach. Dog beaches are a fantastic idea for several reasons. First and foremost, they provide a safe and designated space for dogs to run, play, and swim freely without any restrictions. This is essential for dog owners who want to ensure that their furry friends can enjoy the beach without any worries or concerns. By providing a separate space for dogs to enjoy the beach, it reduces the likelihood of conflicts between dog owners and beachgoers who may not be as comfortable around dogs. Furthermore, dog beaches encourage socialisation among dogs, which is important for their mental and emotional wellbeing. Dogs are naturally social animals, and being able to interact with other dogs in a stimulating environment like the beach, can help improve their social skills and overall happiness. Withsummer upon us, the allure of sun-kissed skin beckons many of us to bask under the warm rays of the sun. However, achieving that coveted bronzed glow requires more than just lounging on the beach. Proper preparation is key to ensure a safe and effective tanning experience that protects your skin from damage.

Probably the most important point to accept is that sunburn is bad, very bad. The idea that red sunburn will turn into a golden suntan later is no more than a myth. Burnt skin is dead skin, which is not a good foundation for a suntan. So, start slowly, little by little. Begin with short periods of sun exposure, preferably during the early morning or late afternoon when the sun’s rays are less intense. This allows your skin to build up a natural defense against UV radiation and reduces the risk of sunburn.

Before you start tanning, exfoliate your skin to remove dead cells and impurities. This not only helps to create a smooth canvas for tanning but also ensures that your skin absorbs the sunlight more evenly. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub or a loofah to gently buff away dead skin cells, focusing on areas prone to dryness such as elbows, knees, and heels. Additionally, keeping your skin wellhydrated is crucial for maintaining its health and elasticity, especially when exposing it to the sun. Drink plenty of water to hydrate your body from within and use a moisturising lotion or oil to keep your skin supple and nourished. Opt for products that contain ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, or coconut oil, which help to soothe and hydrate your skin after exposure to the sun.

Very important point, never, never, never underestimate the importance of sunscreen in your tanning routine. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high sun protection factor to shield your skin from both UVA and UVB

rays. Apply sunscreen generously to all exposed areas of your body, at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more frequently if you’re swimming. In addition to sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are a very good idea when you are in the sun.

Soaking up the sun can be a very enjoyable experience but do take breaks in the shade to give your skin a chance to cool down and recover. If you notice any signs of sunburn or irritation, stay out of the sun for the rest of the day.

Mercedes CLE 300 Cabriolet

Choiceis limited when it comes to full-size, four-seater cabriolets, but Mercedes-Benz has stuck with the formula, with impressive results. Smartly proportioned, well equipped and with a wide range of engines, the Mercedes CLE Cabriolet delivers it all.

The convertible and cabriolet market looks more shakey than ever, but Mercedes has gone all in with its new CLE Cabriolet. It’s offering four engines – two turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motors, a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel.

In terms of looks, it’s an elegant design, well proportioned and the visual appeal doesn’t fade, regardless of whether the 20-layer fabric roof is open or closed. The cabin is well proportioned with frontseat passengers being fully wrapped in comfort. The rear seats passengers don’t share the same level of comfort, but are still ok even if head space is a little tight with the roof up.

There’s a refinement to how the 300 CLE Cabriolet drives. It has more than enough

performance to make a mundane road interesting but you quickly settle into the CLE’s rhythm, letting it dictate the pace so it feels settled and calm as you soak up the scenery, especially with the roof down. There’s a Sport mode should you wish to dial up the performance, but the reality is that it takes away from the CLE Cabriolet’s comfort-oriented style.

Roof closed, you’ll be hard pressed to tell the Cabriolet from the coupé in terms of refinement and drive. There’s a decibel more wind noise around the rear of the hood perhaps, but that’s to be expected. With the roof open and windows up, the cabin remains remarkably calm and free from any outside wind. Drop all four side windows and its a different story, even if you deploy Mercedes’ AIRCAP system, which consists of an extendable wind deflector positioned on top of the windscreen and a wind deflector positioned between the head restraints on the rear seats

The market for the CLE Cabriolet is small; BMW’s 4 Series Convertible is its only competitor. But when done right, as it is

here, the appeal is clear, even if some might find the price a little too strong. All in all, if you are in the market for a cabriolet car, then this must be in the running. It’s a great car with a good pedigree and with the roof down, offers the perfect combination of elegance and fun.

2 oz white rum - 1 cup fresh watermelon chunks - 6-8 fresh mint leaves
