Welcome To Broomwood

Welcome

A happy Childhood, outstanding results

Broomwood provides an extraordinary education for girls and boys from 3-13 years. We are academically rigorous and enjoy some of the best 11+ and 13+ results in London. We also believe however, that happiness is fundamental to school, and life here is full of fun and adventure. Our pupils are encouraged to have a go, to take academic risks and understand that growth and development comes as much from making mistakes as getting things right.

Located between Clapham and Wandsworth Commons, we are also blessed with our own wonderful outdoor spaces. At different stages, our children enjoy the astroturf, outdoor amphitheatre, adventure playgrounds

and mud kitchen. They have use of extensive amenities from dedicated science laboratories, music, art and cookery schools to DT and IT suites. We share facilities and teaching expertise across four sites, all within walking distance of each other.

Our pupils go on to win places at top day and boarding schools. Last year they were awarded 22 scholarships to competitive senior schools and were commended for their performance across the board, from academic achievement to sport and creative studies. We are proud of our pupils, not least because they leave us as confident people, willing to have a go and take advantage of all the opportunities on offer. Senior school staff regularly commend Broomwood children for their leadership qualities and for the excellent way they have been prepared for life beyond prep school.

We have a unique approach to education: All our children are educated together in our Pre-Prep until Year 3 (aged 7). They then move on to our single-sex prep schools, Broomwood Prep - Girls and Broomwood Prep – Boys. Unlike regular single-sex schools, however, we come together for extension and social activities in a co-educational setting.

Our school motto is #BeYourBEST. This is what we as a community strive to bring forth in ourselves, and in every child. We look forward to telling you more.

#BeYourBEST 3

The Best of All Worlds

Our unique model

Broomwood equips and inspires children to #BeYourBEST by giving them the very best of all worlds: a joyful co-educational start to education at the age of 3 or 4 in a bespoke, specialist Early Years centre within a wider school setting. This is followed by a seamless transition to single-sex, yet highly collaborative, prep schools at the age of 7. It is no secret that boys and girls have different academic and emotional requirements, and we allow them to develop at their own pace, whilst coming together for a range of social and academic extension activities. They stay with us until either 11 or 13 and take up places at both day, boarding, co-ed and single-sex schools.

Separate, but together

Whilst the schools have their own traditions and unique characteristics, we are united by what drives us. We want every pupil to develop their own passions and talents, as well as being stretched in new directions, so they become the best version of themselves. With success celebrated nationally, we’re determined our pupils experience even more opportunities

to grow. Our boys and girls enjoy joint house activities, competitions, some sporting fixtures and mixed drama, art and music sessions. They are socially confident and have a shared sense of community.

Culture and Ethos

Our forward-thinking culture inspires true resilience in our children. We prepare for them for the long term; in due course we expect Broomwood children to take on leadership roles, to go out into the world and shape the intellectual debate and to help deliver practical solutions to solve the world’s problems.

Our promise is to inspire and equip every Broomwood pupil to #BeYourBEST.

Broomwood provides a seamless educational journey for children aged 3-13. It consists of a co-ed pre-school year, Little Broomwood, a co-ed pre-prep, Broomwood Pre-Prep (previously Broomwood Hall Lower School), a girls’ prep school, Broomwood Prep - Girls (previously Broomwood Hall Upper School) and a boys’ prep school, Broomwood Prep - Boys (previously Northcote Lodge).

Little Broomwood

Little Broomwood Pre-School

We offer a stimulating and exciting education for 3–4-year-olds, where emphasis is on learning through play and having fun. Located within The Vicarage, the Early Years site, pupils are very much part of the Pre-Prep school. They have their own self-contained bright and spacious area and take advantage of our free flowing indoor and outdoor classrooms, play structure and mud kitchen. They benefit from specialist teaching in Sport, Music, French and Art.

The School day

The day is split into morning and full-day sessions and parents may choose either option. In the Autumn and Spring terms, children come for a minimum of five mornings a week - with the option of staying for the afternoon. In the Summer term, all children attend for four full days (with the option to do five). A cooked lunch is provided for those staying for the whole day.

Wraparound care

For an additional charge, parents may drop their children off from 7.30am. Children attending our after-school club – Junior Adventure Group (JAG), will have a tea time club from 3 – 3.45pm, before joining JAG until 5.45pm.

Joining Little Broomwood

Places at Little Broomwood are offered on a first come, first served basis. Registrations open on 1st September following a child’s first birthday with offers made in October. We aim for an even mix of boys and girls. A place at Little Broomwood guarantees a place in Reception the following year.

Broomwood Pre-Prep

Children only have one chance to get a great education, so it’s important to get it right from the start - and we do. We offer a joyful, stimulating, and exciting curriculum designed exclusively for the educational needs and interests of children aged 3-7.

Well-being goes hand in hand with academic success, so we take this extremely seriously and are proud that our pupils love coming to school. Our class sizes are small, with a high staff:pupil ratio and we use innovative, exciting hooks to stimulate a child’s natural thirst for learning. Class teachers are supported by teaching assistants and there are specialist teachers for French, art, music, and sport for all. There are regular class assemblies and one whole year performance each year.

We are a happy, and busy community in which parents play an important part, with regular ‘Come and Learn’ sessions and a thriving Parent Association. We offer a myriad of extracurricular clubs as well as the option of an extended day (for an additional charge).

Children join us in Reception from our pre-school, Little Broomwood, from local nurseries or further afield. For an occasional place in other years, we ask for a report and school reference.

Our focus is on the individual child and throughout their time with us they are supported, guided, stimulated, and stretched to be their BEST, before leaving us for the prep schools, brimming with confidence and ready for the next stage.

The Prep BroomwoodSchools: Boys

For us, the whole boy is the whole point, which is why we offer our boys a broad curriculum with plenty of opportunities to stretch themselves. The emphasis is not only academic but also embraces a wide mix of different Sports, Music, Drama, and Art, designed to develop self-confidence, kindness, and respect for others. It makes us a happy school – and happy boys enjoy school and do well.

Many boys join us from Broomwood Pre-Prep at the age of 7, but we also take boys from other schools at the age of 7 and 11. Whilst focusing on the needs of boys above all else, we work closely and collaboratively with Broomwood Girls to ensure that friendships formed in the Pre-Prep are maintained and

that there continue to be plenty of shared experiences. These include regular cross-site co-curricular days, various talks and trips, some clubs and the mixed residential trips. Our leavers win scholarships to some of the country’s leading schools – single sex and co-ed, day and boarding, at both 11 and 13. Above all, we work with parents to ensure that a boy moves on to the school that is right for him. We’re proud that boys leave us with the drive and determination to succeed, a strong sense of self and an awareness of others. More importantly, we’re delighted that boys leave us with friends for life.

The Prep BroomwoodSchools: Girls

We help girls to identify and reach their potential. We provide a forward-thinking, rounded education, tailored to the needs of girls and strive to get the best out of each one, whilst being friendly and supportive.

We do this through innovative and dynamic teaching, a wide range of opportunities and experiences across the curriculum and outside of formal learning; a fantastic variety of sports; wonderful Art, DT, Music and Drama - and our own cookery school. Pastoral care is baked-in to all that we do.

Girls join us from our Pre-Prep as well as many other schools right across the year groups. Our main entry points are at 7 and 11. Whilst

focusing on the needs of girls, we work closely and collaboratively with Broomwood Boys to ensure that friendships from the Pre-Prep are maintained and that there continue to be plenty of shared experiences. These Include regular cross-site co-curricular days, various talks and trips, house activities and some clubs, and the annual residential trips. Each year we have considerable success with scholarships and prizes to senior schools across all areas of the curriculum at both 11 and 13. We’re proud that each girl leaves us for the school that will help her thrive - not only academically, but in all areas of her life and that our leavers often rise to leadership in their future settings.

After Broomwood

Our pupils move on to some of the best senior schools in the country – day, boarding, co-ed and single-sex, at both 11 and 13. We cover a wide range as we don’t feed any one particular school, but take pride in helping each child find the school that’s right for them. Each year around a quarter of our leavers win scholarships across all subject areas.

Applying to Broomwood

We are a non-academically selective, mainstream school. However, we always like to ensure that we can meet the needs of every child joining us. Broomwood is a busy environment and we do expect our older children to develop some measure of independence in organisation of their work and attending subject specialist lessons. We usually ask for a school report and a school reference where applicable.

• Little Broomwood Pre-School: Register and Visit by the September after the child’s first birthday. Places awarded on a first come, first served basis. Offers made shortly afterwards in October.

• Pre-Prep, Reception: Register and Visit by the September after the child’s second birthday. Places awarded on a first come, first served basis. Priority for siblings, children of alumni and children from other Dukes Education settings. Offers made shortly afterwards in October.

• Pre-Prep occasional places. Please contact our admissions team to enquire

about spaces. If you are seeking a Little Broomwood or Reception place and have missed the deadline, it is always worth asking if there is space as families sometimes relocate away from London.

• Prep Schools: Taster and Assessment days arranged throughout the year. An opportunity to ensure we are the right fit for your child and for them to enjoy meeting new friends and seeing something of the Broomwood approach.
