Welcome To Broomwood

‘We Believe in Your Child’
Broomwood is an extraordinary school, where the happiness and wellbeing of every child is paramount. We are academically rigorous and achieve some of the best exam results in London, whilst at the same time developing confidence, resilience and self-esteem. Our children are encouraged, to take academic risks and to understand that growth comes as much from making mistakes as getting things right.
‘The Best of Both Worlds’
Our approach to education is distinctive: Our pupils are educated together in the Pre-Prep from the age of 3 -7. They then move on to our single-sex prep schools, Broomwood Prep - Girls or Broomwood Prep – Boys. Unlike regular single-sex schools, we come together for a range of extension and social activities in a co-educational setting.
Our school motto is #BeYourBEST. This is what we as a community strive to bring forth in ourselves, and in every child. We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.
Located between Clapham and Wandsworth Commons, we are a multi-award-winning school based across four sites all within walking distance of one another. Broomwood is made up of three parts: Pre-Prep (aged 3-7), Prep – Girls (aged 7-13) and Prep – Boys (aged 7-13). Each has its own Head and operates within the wider Broomwood framework to achieve consistency of values and academic performance. We share facilities and teaching expertise, and the same values are embodied at every site.
Broomwood is blessed with wonderful outdoor spaces. At different sites, children enjoy the astroturf, outdoor amphitheatre, adventure playgrounds and mud kitchen. They have use of extensive amenities from dedicated science laboratories, music, art and cookery schools to DT and IT suites.
Pupils go on to win places at top day and boarding schools. They are regularly awarded scholarships to competitive senior schools, with commendations across the board, from academic achievement to art, drama, music and sport.
Our distinctive approach
We educate our children together in our co-ed Pre-Prep until the age of 7 when they move to Broomwood Boys or Broomwood Girls. The transition to the prep part of the school is seamless and children are well prepared for the move. The single sex environment allows them to develop at their own pace, whilst coming together for a range of social and academic extension activities. We have two exit points at 11+ or 13+ where children leave to take up places at both day, boarding, co-ed and single-sex schools.

Broomwood Pre-Prep including Little Broomwood Pre-School
We offer a stimulating and exciting education for 3–4-year-olds, where emphasis is on learning through play and having fun. Little Broomwood has bright, spacious classrooms where children take advantage of free flowing indoor and outdoor spaces, play structures, mud kitchen and ‘welly time’. They benefit from specialist teaching in art, French, music, and sport.
Children have the option of doing a full day at Little Broomwood or mornings only. In the Autumn and Spring Terms, they come for a minimum of five mornings a week - with the option of staying for the afternoon. In the Summer Term, all children continue to attend for five mornings a week and have the option to do either four or five afternoons. A cooked lunch is provided for those staying for the whole day.
For an additional charge, parents may drop their children off from 7.30am. Children attending our after-school club – Junior Adventure Group (JAG), will have a teatime club from 3 – 3.45pm, before joining JAG until 5.45pm.
Places at Little Broomwood are offered in the first instance to siblings of Broomwood pupils and are then awarded by date of registration. Families should register their child by 1st September following their first birthday, with offers made in October. We aim for an even mix of boys and girls. A place at Little Broomwood guarantees a place in Reception the following year.
In Reception, we welcome additional children to the Pre-Prep and over the next three years, we continue to guide and nurture our pupils through the beginning of their educational journey. Our dedicated teachers go above and beyond for each individual child, ensuring they have the best possible start.
Well-being goes hand in hand with academic success, which is why we prioritise it and take pride in the fact that our pupils love coming to school. We have a high staff: pupil ratio. Form teachers and teaching assistants use innovative thematic learning methods to ignite a child’s innate curiosity for learning. They are supported by specialist staff for art, French, music, and sport for all. There are regular class assemblies and one whole year performance each year.
We regularly invite parents to school for a variety of events and performances including
‘Come and Learn’ sessions, where they join children in the classroom to gain a deeper understanding of how we teach. We also have a thriving Parent Association. We offer a myriad of extracurricular clubs as well as the option of an extended day (for an additional charge).
Reception places are automatically awarded to children from our pre-school, Little Broomwood and siblings of current pupils. Children also join us from local nurseries or further afield. We ask parents to register for a place by 1 September after their child’s second birthday. For an occasional place in other years, we ask for a report and school reference.
Throughout their time with us pupils are stimulated to develop a love of learning and interest in the world around them. At the end of the Pre-Prep they are brimming with confidence, ready to take the next step by moving to Broomwood Boys or Broomwood Girls.
We help our pupils to identify their potential, opening a world of limitless possibilities. At the prep stage, Broomwood provides a forward-thinking, rounded education delivered at separate single sex sites, tailored to the needs of boys and girls.
There are a wide range of opportunities and experiences across the curriculum and outside of formal learning. Each site has dedicated specialist staff, but we share facilities and expertise to provide a fantastic variety of sports. We also have wonderful art studios, DT, drama and music suites - and our own cookery school. Pastoral care is baked-in to all that we do.
Broomwood Boys and Broomwood Girls work closely and collaboratively to ensure that friendships formed in the Pre-Prep are maintained and that there continue to be plenty of shared experiences. These include regular talks and trips, clubs and the mixed residential trips. Our three experienced Heads work together to drive the school forward, ensuring we stay true to our values, unfolding a myriad of opportunities for the children, whilst providing a bespoke education for boys and girls.
Our main entry point is Year 3 with our pupils from Broomwood Pre-Prep who organically move into the Prep Schools, along with children from other schools. A significant number also join in Year 7 with occasional places in our other years.
‘A safe, nurturing environment with a huge breadth of opportunity and enrichment, preparing children for life beyond Broomwood.’
The Prep School Structure: for Academic Success
Broomwood Boys and Girls is formed of three ‘Phases’ overseen by a ‘Head of Phase’. Lessons are delivered to small classes in a single-sex setting, with children coming together for co-ed activities and workshops. Pupils of all ages also meet up during the day, with mentoring opportunities built in.
Pupils have one form teacher who serves as a first point of contact and teaches English and Maths. There are specialist teachers for all other subjects, including science, languages and creative arts. Children have use of all Prep School facilities. Each year is supported by an assistant.
The Middle Phase – Years 5-6
The focus is on an all-round education with an emphasis on preparing for senior school assessment. Children continue to enhance their personal and social skills, build confidence and remain engaged and happy.
The Senior Phase – Years 7-8
In the final years at Broomwood, we promote independence of learning, helping pupils to take responsibility for their own study and we provide leadership opportunities. Children acquire a range of skills, such as research, presentation, and collaborative project work.
We offer a wide range of after-school clubs at Broomwood, which vary across the year. We invite expert speakers and professionals to conduct workshops and talks, both for children and parents, as well as holding enrichment days and residential trips. Recent clubs and activities have included:
Ancient Greek Art and Crafts Ballet Biology
Board Games Chess Coding Cookery
Cricket Cross-fit Drama Drone Quiz
Design Engineering Gardening Glee
Gymnastics Fencing Film Flamenco
Football Jewellery-making Karate Knitting
Musical Theatre Philosophy Photography Running
Spanish Swim Squad Table Tennis Yoga
We enjoy some of the best exam results in London. Our leavers are awarded scholarships to leading schools – single sex and co-ed, day and boarding, at our exit points of 11+ and 13+. Our priority is to ensure that our pupils continue to flourish at senior school. Broomwood staff have many years of experience in navigating school admission processes and work closely with parents to support them in choosing the right school for each child. We have close relationships with top UK schools whose heads regularly visit Broomwood. Above all, we work with parents to ensure that a child moves on to the school that is right for them. We’re proud that our former pupils are regularly commended by senior school staff for their approach and maturity, and many take on leadership roles at their new schools.
At Little Broomwood and Reception, we are a non-selective school. For other year groups, children sit an informal assessment to ensure they can access our mainstream curriculum and will thrive within the current cohort. We ask for a school report and a school reference where applicable and we invite older children to join us for a ‘taster day’ to make sure we are a good fit.
• Little Broomwood Pre-School: Register and visit by the September after the child’s first birthday. Priority is given to siblings, children of alumni and those from other Dukes Education settings, thereafter from date of registration. Offers made shortly afterwards in October.
• Pre-Prep, Reception: Register and visit by the September after the child’s second birthday. Priority is given to siblings, children of alumni and those from other Dukes Education settings, thereafter from date of registration. Offers made shortly afterwards in October.
• Pre-Prep occasional places. Please contact our admissions team to enquire about spaces. If you are seeking a Little Broomwood or Reception place and have missed the deadline, it is always worth asking if there is space as families sometimes relocate away from London.
• Prep Schools: Taster and Assessment days are arranged throughout the year, although our main event for 7+ and 11+ is held in January.

Together we’re extraordinary
In 2021, Broomwood joined Dukes Education, a family of some of the best nurseries, schools, and colleges in the UK.
This enables pupils to benefit from the constant sharing of best practice among our schools, and the stringent standards
held to by a wide team of senior leaders who, combined, have an exceptional record of experience and expertise in education. It also provides benefits to parents who join an extraordinary community of educators and have access to the Dukes Club which provides a range of exclusive opportunities for our parents.
