Course Overview

The Access to HE Business and Financial Services is a full-time Further Education course designed for students who aim to study business or business-related topics such as marketing or finance in Higher Education. It provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to progress to Higher Education or to enhance your employment potential.

Business and finance jobs are evident in many sectors such as tourism, and this programme will develop and enhance your communication, organisational and teamworking skills.

Entry Requirements

Applications can be made from learners who do not hold any formal qualifications; however, a skills assessment and an interview will need to be undertaken to determine suitability for the course. Learners with GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C or above do not need to undertake the skills assessment but will have an interview. Applicants should be motivated, reliable and mature, deal well with challenges and have evidence of life experience.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

You will learn via taught lessons and self-directed study, providing you with essential knowledge on the business and financial industries.

Assessment takes place via a range of interactive and learner led methods to ensure stimulation and development for all learners. Assessment is undertaken using a range of assessment strategies including essays, reports presentations and controlled tasks.

Career Prospects

Successful completion of the course allows entry into a wide range of degree programmes including Business, Tourism, Finance and Law. Completion of the Access to Higher Education course can also be used as evidence of recent study and to seek new career opportunities.

Access to HE Diploma - Applied Computing

Course Overview

The Access to Higher Education Diploma – Applied Computing is a full-time Further Education course designed to prepare learners for study at Higher Education in a computing-related programme whilst also enabling them to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare them for a career in the area of computing or ICT. The course design provides thorough specialist workrelated modules relevant to the computing and IT sector. The Diploma provides career development opportunities and a clear progression route to higher education, degree and professional development programmes within the computing and IT areas.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be 19 years or over. Applications are welcomed from learners who do not have formal qualifications but have some relevant experience and can demonstrate a keen interest in computing and ICT. Literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills assessments and an interview will need to be undertaken to determine suitability for the course.

However, those with GCSE Mathematics and English

Language at grade C or above will not need to complete the literacy and numeracy skills assessments. Applicants should be motivated, reliable, mature and have evidence of life experience. They should also be able to deal well with challenges.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

Teaching and learning will take place through a process of lectures, tutorials, seminars, discussions, demonstrations, blended learning and group work. Learners will be assessed by both coursework and exam-based assessment.

Career Prospects

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to progress to foundation degrees in IT or Computing areas, BSc in Computing, BSc in IT Management, higher apprenticeships in a related area and employment in the computing sector, including graphic design, web development, IT technical support and software development.
