This programme will suit students who work or wish to work in the construction industry and wish to develop the required academic knowledge and practical skills. There are four areas you can choose to focus studies on and they are: building engineering services, civil engineering, construction management, and quantity surveying.

The Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications in Construction are aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the construction sector and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in construction or related fields. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of the construction sector, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in construction give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training in Construction related fields.

Entry Requirements

Typical entry requirements require applicants to have a minimum of 32 UCAS tariff points, five GCSEs (to include English and Maths) at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent qualifications. Applications are considered on their individual merits and we welcome applications from mature students who may be unable to meet the formal entry requirements but can demonstrate the ability to study at this level through personal, professional or other educational experience.

Course Overview

The HND in Construction and the Built Environment: Construction Management is a one-year full-time programme designed for students who have already completed the NPTC Group of Colleges' Construction and the Built Environment HNC or another equivalent qualification or who work in the construction industry. The course will help you build upon your skills in site management, contracts and management and Building Information Modelling (BIM), sustainability and the management of complex buildings. You will study key areas such as construction-based law, alternative modern methods of construction (AMCs), and site safety. In addition to site management techniques, you will also learn about contract procedures, project management and the construction risk assessment process.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of the HNC in Construction and the Built Environment or an equivalent qualification in a relevant construction related discipline. Attainment of GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.

Progression Opportunities

Students completing this programme could choose to complete a level 6 top-up qualification in a related discipline to gain a full bachelor’s degree.

Career Prospects

Graduates of this programme will be able to pursue or develop their career in a range of roles including site management, facilities management and project management. This course is highly regarded by employers in the construction industry.
