The Townsville based InventorsNQ group has become home to some of North Queensland’s most innovative entrepreneurs who are seeking a hub to harness their ideas and connect with like-minded individuals. Meeting fortnightly via zoom and at Smart Precinct NQ, the group provides a place for local inventors to hone their ideas and gain support in developing and commercialising their product.
DAN DASS REECOIL Dan is the founder of Reecoil, which develops innovative heavy-duty tool lanyards for the Arborist market, and services the Rope Access and Construction market with their expanding product line. Reecoil has a wide international distributor network, with their products currently being sold in stores across the USA, Canada and Europe.
InventorsNQ Coordinator, Claire Lawson, says she founded the group after failing to find a local community of inventors when she started her own business, T-air, in 2018. “I went searching for an inventor’s community to learn from their experiences, but at the time, the only active local groups were ‘tech’ orientated, which is very different to that of inventing and commercialising a physical product,” she explains.

“We now have a wide variety of inventors in the group at different stages of business, so whether it’s just an idea or you’re trying to sell into international markets, there is something for everyone.”
John developed an industrial fastener called the Structural Steel Clamping System. The clamp protects electrical ladders and provides a safer and greater economical alternative when installing new equipment to existing structural steelwork. MM Electrical Mackay and Townsville are current distributors of the Structural Steel Clamping System.
Claire says the group plays a central role in fostering a supportive community where regional entrepreneurship and innovative ideas can thrive. “Our vision is that every NQ inventor has the opportunity to successfully explore and commercialise their idea,” she continues. “We are passionate about providing support, advice and preventing others from falling into the same costly holes that many of us have previously experienced.”
