The course delivery is a blended process which is flexible and tailored to meet the needs of individual learners and NET academies. Further information is provided throughout this booklet that outlines course delivery, off job training and duration of qualifications.

We continue to enhance the training opportunities available to our staff to support their development. Should you have any questions or have a specific training route that you wish to pursue please do not hesitate to contact net-staffcollege@northerneducationtrust.org .

Meriem Lairini

Director of NET Staff College

Course Delivery

How are the courses

delivered?

Course delivery is flexible and tailored to meet the needs of individual learners and NET academies. Delivery is usually through one to one, face to face and remote sessions with skills coaches. Sessions will take place every four weeks and will be 1½ - 2 hours in duration.

These sessions may be supported by full or half day workshops at set intervals throughout the course.

‘Off the Job’ Training - What is it?

How long do courses take to complete?

Courses vary in duration depending on the level and course subject. They take a minimum of 12 months to complete and up to three years for some degree level courses.

How will the courses be funded?

Providing applicants meet the requirements of the apprenticeship guidance for the chosen qualification, then the course will be fully funded via the apprenticeship levy. Colleagues will not be required to be involved in the funding process, which will be completed via the NET Staff College and the finance team.

In England, it is a statutory requirement for an apprentice to spend 20% of their paid time 'off-the-job'. This involves essential training to help the apprentice gain the skills needed to complete their apprenticeship.

Off-the-job training is delivered by subject experts and can include:

• teaching theory (e.g. classroom lessons, lectures and online learning)

• practical training (e.g. shadowing, mentoring, industry visits)

• learning support and time to write assignments

The training must equate to 20% of the overall contracted hours for the duration of the apprenticeship. It can be delivered flexibly, with the employer and tutor deciding on the most appropriate model.

Is it directly relevant to the apprenticeship standard or framework?

Different course levels

Is it teaching new knowledge, skills and behaviours?

Is the learning taking place within the apprentice's normal working hours?

Below is a guide to equivalent course levels but please note that level 3 programmes can often be used for people established in their careers, particularly when there is a need for new skill development and theory or knowledge. Some courses may also give you an additional qualification, such as a diploma.

STEP 2

It is the responsibility of the primary principal (or delegated member of staff)/business manager (secondary) to contact the relevant training provider, LMP Education, QA Ltd or Grey Seal. For central team staff this will be co-ordinated by the NET Staff College (NSC). This meeting is to confirm if the training identified is suitable for the individual, that the academy/central function is able to support the requirements stipulated and also understands the mentor requirements.

Please note that for Grey Seal courses a discussion with a member of the Corporate Estates Team needs to take place prior to principal approval.

Contact details:

LMP: Anna.Sherriff@lmpeducation.org

QA Ltd: Jane.McCullough@qa.com

Grey Seal: annette@greysealacademy.co.uk

STEP 3

Following the meeting in Step 2, the training provider will contact the NSC to confirm if the colleague meets the relevant criteria and is eligible to enrol for the training.

Information require from the training provider following their meeting:

Apprentice full name

Apprentice job title

Apprentice DOB

Apprentice email address

Type of Contract

Qualification name and level

Apprenticeship duration

Fixed/Permanent

Total agreed cost for the apprenticeship £

* the above information should be emailed from the training provider to Christine Hopkins at the NSC: c.hopkins@northerneducationtrust.org

STEP 4

The NSC will record this information on a Google sheet that will require authorisation from the central HR team regarding the member of staff’s contractual status and the central finance team to confirm that there are sufficient funds available in the apprenticeship levy. Once this information has been approved the NSC will send confirmation to the training provider. Please note training cannot start without these checks been completed.

STEP 5

The training provider will contact the academy with the apprentice agreement, which must be signed by the principal. For central team staff this should be signed by the chief operating officer.
