We continue to enhance the training opportunities available to our staff to support their development. Should you have any questions or have a specific training route that you wish to pursue please do not hesitate to contact net-staffcollege@northerneducationtrust.org .
Meriem Lairini
Director of NET Staff College
How are the courses
Course delivery is flexible and tailored to meet the needs of individual learners and NET academies. Delivery is usually through one to one, face to face and remote sessions with skills coaches. Sessions will take place every four weeks and will be 1½ - 2 hours in duration.
These sessions may be supported by full or half day workshops at set intervals throughout the course.
Courses vary in duration depending on the level and course subject. They take a minimum of 12 months to complete and up to three years for some degree level courses.
Providing applicants meet the requirements of the apprenticeship guidance for the chosen qualification, then the course will be fully funded via the apprenticeship levy. Colleagues will not be required to be involved in the funding process, which will be completed via the NET Staff College and the finance team.
In England, it is a statutory requirement for an apprentice to spend 20% of their paid time 'off-the-job'. This involves essential training to help the apprentice gain the skills needed to complete their apprenticeship.
Off-the-job training is delivered by subject experts and can include:
• teaching theory (e.g. classroom lessons, lectures and online learning)
• practical training (e.g. shadowing, mentoring, industry visits)
• learning support and time to write assignments
The training must equate to 20% of the overall contracted hours for the duration of the apprenticeship. It can be delivered flexibly, with the employer and tutor deciding on the most appropriate model.
Is it directly relevant to the apprenticeship standard or framework?
Is it teaching new knowledge, skills and behaviours?
Is the learning taking place within the apprentice's normal working hours?
Below is a guide to equivalent course levels but please note that level 3 programmes can often be used for people established in their careers, particularly when there is a need for new skill development and theory or knowledge. Some courses may also give you an additional qualification, such as a diploma.
