Um Ihnen die Orientierung in der Welt von T(( ))mb zu erleichtern, haben wir Ihnen in diesem Cheat Sheet eine Reihe von Clues zusammengestellt. Unter Cheat Sheets versteht man (digitale) Merk- oder Spickzettel, die das Spielen in Gaming-Kontexten vereinfachen sollen (etwa indem sie Infos zu Tastenkombinationen oder anderen Short-Cut-Codes versammeln).

Die Arbeiten von OMSK Social Club bewegen sich an der Schnittstelle von Alltagswelt und Rollenspiel. Die Grenzen zwischen diesen beiden Sphären werden dabei systematisch verwischt. So sehr, dass eine spekulative Welt einer anderen, noch nicht gelebten Realität entsteht. T(( ))mb ist eine solche Realität.

Sprachspiele — „Die Grenzen meiner Sprache bedeuten die Grenzen meiner Welt“1, schrieb Ludwig Wittgenstein. Sprache, so der Philosoph, definiert das Terrain unseres Weltbezugs. Ihre Grenzen sind dabei nicht starr. Im Gegenteil: Sprechen ist für Wittgenstein ein spielerisch-performativer Akt. Indem wir kommunizieren – uns mit Freund:innen austauschen, ein Meeting abhalten oder in der Gruppe diskutieren –, loten wir gemeinsam die Möglichkeiten eines bestimmten Kommunikationsraums aus: Wir spielen ein „Sprachspiel“. Wir verhandeln die Grenzen der Sprache neu – und damit, potenziell, auch die unserer Welt(en).

Live Action Role Play (LARP) — Ursprünglich in den 1970er Jahren in Skandinavien entstanden, sind Live Action Roleplays (LARPS) improvisierte Rollenspiele, in denen verschiedene Spieler:innen („Players“) in individuelle Charaktere schlüpfen und gemeinsam spielend einen Plot entwickeln. Die Kostüme und Schauplätze können dabei fiktional oder realistisch, historisch oder aktuell sein. Ebenso können Umfang und Dauer variieren. Manche LARPS entstehen als kleine private Zusammenkünfte, die nur wenige Stunden dauern, während sich andere als große öffentliche Veranstaltungen mit Tausenden von Spieler:innen über mehrere Tage erstrecken.

Real Game Play (RGP) — Real Game Play (RGP) ist eine von OMSK Social Club entwickelte Erweiterung des LARP, bei dem die gelebten Erfahrungen und Identitäten der Spieler:innen in den Charakter einfließen.

Bleed — „Bleed“ ist ein Begriff aus der Rollenspielszene. Er steht für Situationen starker emotionaler Identifikation der Spieler:innen mit den von ihnen verkörperten Figuren. Die Metapher „Bleed“ erklärt sich damit, dass diese Situationen vielmals als ein „Abfärben“ oder „Durchsickern“ fremder Emotionen in die eigene Gefühlswelt erlebt werden.

Projekt Cassandra — „Cassandra“ ist der Name eines Forschungsprojekts, das von 2017 bis 2020 im Auftrag des deutschen Bundesministeriums der Verteidigung durchgeführt wurde: Analog zu der gleichnamigen antiken Sagengestalt sollte „Cassandra“ einen Blick in die Zukunft ermöglichen. Ziel des Projekts war es, Daten für die strategische Krisenfrüherkennung zu generieren – mit einer Besonderheit: Im Zentrum des Projekts stand die Analyse von Literatur. Anhand fiktionaler Texte aus unterschiedlichen (konfliktgefährdeten) Regionen der Welt wurden sogenannte „emotion maps“ erstellt, die eine bessere sicherheitspolitische Navigation im Konflikt- und Krisenfall ermöglichen sollten.

Asemisches Schreiben — Asemisches Schreiben bezeichnet eine Form des analogen Schreibens ohne oder mit nur losem sprachlichem Bezug. Die verwendeten Zeichen erinnern an Buchstaben und Wörter, fügen sich jedoch zu keiner Sinn und Bedeutung transportierenden Schrift. Im Zentrum steht nicht die Weitergabe sprachlicher Informationen, sondern die experimentelle Erkundung der gestisch-physischen Dimension des Schreibvorgangs und der dabei entstehenden Zeichen.

In order to help you find your way through the world of T(( ))mb, we have compiled a variety of clues in this cheat sheet. Cheat sheets are (digital) notes or reference guides to ease play in gaming contexts (e. g. by collecting information about key combinations or other short-cut codes).

Residing at the intersection of role-playing and the everyday world, the works of OMSK Social Club systematically blur the boundaries between these two spheres. So much so that a speculative world of an other, not yet lived reality emerges. T(( ))mb is such a reality.

Language-Games — “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world,”1 wrote Ludwig Wittgenstein. Language, he maintained, stakes out the terrain of our relation to the world. These limits, however, are not rigid. On the contrary: For the philosopher, speech is a playful-performative act. By communicating – exchanging ideas with friends, holding a meeting, or discussing as a group – we jointly explore the possibilities of a particular communication space: We play a “language-game.” We renegotiate the limits of language, and thus, potentially, those of our world(s).

Live Action Role Play (LARP) — Originally developed in Scandinavia in the 1970s, live action role plays (LARPS) are improvised roleplaying games in which players take on different characters and develop a plot together. The costumes and settings can be fictional or realistic, historical or contemporary; the scope and duration can vary as well. Some LARPS take place as small private gatherings lasting only a few hours, while others are large public events over several days involving thousands of players.

Real Game Play (RGP) — Real game play (RGP) is an expanded version of LARP developed by OMSK Social Club in which the experiences and identities of the players pervade the respective character.

Bleed — “Bleed” is a term from the role-playing scene. It refers to situations in which players exhibit strong emotional identification with the characters they embody. The metaphor “bleed” is explained by the fact that these situations are often experienced as a “rub-off” or “leakage” of foreign emotions into one’s own emotional world.

The Cassandra Project — “Cassandra” is the name of a research project conducted from 2017 to 2020 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Defense: Like the eponymous ancient mythical figure, Cassandra was intended to provide a glimpse into the future. The project generated data for strategic early crisis detection – albeit using a special method: the analysis of literature.

Fictional texts from different (conflict-prone) regions of the world were used to create so-called “emotion maps,” which should improve security policy navigation in the event of conflict and crisis.

Asemic writing — Asemic writing refers to a form of analog writing with no or only loose linguistic reference. The signs used resemble letters and words, but do not combine to form a writing that conveys meaning. The focus is not on the communication of linguistic information, but on the experimental exploration of the gestural-physical dimension of the writing process and the resulting signs.
