WELCOME FROM THE CEO

Dear Readers,

In recent years, the automotive industry has been revolutionised through electrification. While replacing engines by electric motors doesn’t sound like a big change to the average person, aside from the highly publicised emissions reductions, the transformation impacts every corner of the automotive industry.

It’s not only the way a vehicle is designed and powered that has changed, but crucially for us, how it is serviced and maintained.

Electrified and fully electric vehicles require entirely different parts, which also need different skillsets to both design and maintain. Through that, the entire value chain, from OEMs, through Suppliers, to distributors and workshops are all impacted by this transformation.

At NEXUS Automotive International, we believe that innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. It thrives in communities like ours, where knowledge, ambition, and collaboration come together. The electrification journey is still in motion, and while the aftermarket has some time to adjust, we must use that time wisely - to innovate, to train, to adapt.

With this 41st edition of IN!SIDE, we invite the entire N! Community to dive into the opportunities and implications of electrification. Let’s explore how we can build a smarter, cleaner, and more connected future - together.

With best regards,

GLOBAL BATTERY REGULATIONS

ELECTRICAL BATTERY SHIFT: HOW EU, USA, AND CHINA REGULATIONS ARE RESHAPING

THE AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET

As electrification gains political and industrial momentum, regulatory frameworks are tightening across the globe. The race to decarbonize transportation plays a important role on those requirements that are no longer limited to vehicle manufacturers; it is now a defining force across the entire mobility ecosystem, fundamentally transforming the dynamics of the aftermarket sector.

The European Union leads with regulation, the United States relies on market incentives, and China enforces a state-led model. For global players, this creates both opportunities and challenges in compliance, data access, and innovation.

Electrification:

End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive (2000/53/EC)

Proposed Battery Regulation (2020/0353 COD)

A Fast-Moving Global Agenda

The European Green Deal sets an ambitious climate objective: 90% reduction in transport emissions by 2050. This is backed by structural legislation, including Directive on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (2014/94) and the Clean Vehicles Directive, Directive (2019/1161), which imposes binding targets on public procurement of zero-emission fleets by 2025 and 2030, thereby accelerating fleet electrification and increasing demand for aftermarket services related to EV maintenance, diagnostics, and component replacement.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) sup-

port electric vehicle expansion through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program (NEVI Formula), funding state charging networks and data systems. Emissions rules like the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, led by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), show federal direction but remain politically volatile. Businesses must stay flexible as state-level policies, such as California’s 2035 internal combustion engine (ICE) ban, often diverge from national regulations.

China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Industry Development Plan (2021–2035) targets a 20% NEV share by 2025, supported by the

Dual Credit Policy, which penalizes emissions and rewards NEV production. Backed by financial, tax, and R&D incentives, NEVs bought between 2026 and 2027 receive a 50% vehicle purchase tax reduction. (Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, 2023).

Vehicle End-of-Life Regulation: Closing the Loop

In the EU, the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive (2000/53/EC) mandating that at least 85% of a vehicle’s weight be recycled, and 95% be recovered.

In contrast, the United States lacks a national ELV regulation for electric vehicles. Nonetheless, several states, most notably California, are rolling out frameworks that

hold OEMs accountable for the safe and sustainable recovery of EV batteries

Once again, China offers a model of centralized control. A fully closed-loop battery recovery system is already in place, with OEMs legally obligated to report battery lifecycles and maintain recycling performance metrics. Aftermarket service providers are expected to work within certified networks and submit detailed records.

Battery Regulation: Full-Lifecycle Compliance Becomes the Standard

In the EU the requirement for a Battery Passport, a digital record that ensures regulatory compliance by tracking a battery’s entire lifecycle, from production through use to final recycling supporting effective

due diligence. Present on the Directive on Batteries Regulation (EU 2023/1542) Postponed to 2027 by Omnibus IV package, which is part of a broader initiative to simplify regulatory frameworks and strengthen industrial competitiveness.

While less centralized, the direction is clear, set by the Battery Critical Materials Act and Department of Energy (DOE) investments reflect growing emphasis on circularity. California’s SB 615 sets a precedent for traceability and lifecycle accountability, likely to become the national standard. Aftermarket businesses must prepare to integrate labeling, tracking, and recovery processes into their core operations.

With a mandatory battery traceability system and enforced OEM responsibility, it blends compliance with industrial policy. The MIIT’s oversight of second-life applications, renewed in 2025, aim to tighten pricing controls, accelerate safety standards, and institutionalize manufacturer engagement, further embedding regulation into the business environment.

Key Takeaways on EV and E-Battery Compliance

The aftermarket is becoming central to the circular EV economy, as battery regulations reshape the industry. Key points include:

• Over 80% of new vehicles sold in the EU by 2035 will be subject to the Battery Passport requirement.

• More than $7.5 billion in incentives are mobilized under the U.S. IRA and BIL for EV infrastructure and battery innovation and charger networks.

• China expects over 1 million metric tons of retired batteries annually by 2030.

As regulatory scope expands from traditional repair services to full lifecycle responsibility, aftermarket businesses that invest early in traceability tools, certified workforce training, and sustainable recovery processes will gain competitive advantage. Aligning now with global compliance frameworks is key to unlocking future growth and positioning within a circular, electrified mobility ecosystem. 

ELECTRIFICATION IN MOTION: FRANCE, NORWAY, AND THE UNEVEN ACCELERATION OF THE EUROPEAN EV LANDSCAPE

As Europe races toward decarbonization, electrification has moved from policy ambition to market reality. Yet the path to zero-emission mobility is far from uniform. Different countries are moving at different speeds, influenced by infrastructure, incentives, industrial priorities, and consumer behavior.

A European overview Across the continent, the average share of electrified vehicles (HEV, PHEV, BEV) exceeded 50% of new registrations in 2024, but the gap between frontrunners and laggards is striking. Nordic countries such as Norway approach full electrification, while Southern and Eastern markets remain more dependent on ICE, due to affordability and infrastructure constraints. This divergence matters not only for policymakers, but also for the spare parts ecosystem, which will face highly uneven patterns of demand depending on national trajectories.

France: transformation at the heart of Europe’s industrial core France holds a central role in the European automotive ecosystem not just in market volume, but in political weight, technological innovation, and the strategic positioning of its domestic manufacturers. Electrification in France is thus not only about adoption

curves, but also about how the transition supports (or challenges) the nation’s broader economic model.

In 2024, 63% of new vehicle registrations in France featured alternative powertrains hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric. Diesel, once dominant at over 70% in 2010, now represents just 7%. Hybrids have filled much of this gap, while BEVs represent 16.9% of sales in 2024, climbing to 18% in early 2025. Yet government incentives, particularly the refocusing of the bonus écologique on European-assembled models, have slowed the pace of growth. The French case illustrates how industrial policy and affordability constraints shape the market.

Norway: a market decade ahead Norway, by contrast, has already crossed the bridge. Nearly 89% of new registrations in 2024 were fully electric, while PHEVs have nearly disappeared and hybrid represents

FROM POLICY AMBITION TO MARKET REALITY

only 5% of the new car registrations. In terms of car parc the share of the BEV vehicles has doubled in the last 5 years and this technology accounts now for 27% of the Norwegian car parc. This success stems from a tightly aligned ecosystem of tax exemptions, abundant charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and stable long-term policy. Norway demonstrates the end-state of electrification: once BEVs achieve cost parity and ecosystem maturity, adoption accelerates to saturation. Norway is still the ‘lab’ (standing for Laboratory) of the BEV in Europe and is now starting its mature phase. According to the last GiPA Norway Drivers study, available since September 2025, most EV cars are bought 2nd hand among vehicles aged 3 years or more, with significant differences among cars aged 10-14 years as vast majority of them is 2nd hand. One of the most interesting trends reflected in the study is the increase of the subscription for maintenance contracts for BEV’s, 25% compared to ICE’s only 4%.

“Today, we clearly see an evolving market in Norway reflecting a clear product life circle curve in terls of buying and maintenance habits’, says Almudena Benedito, GiPA Group CEO. “This is why in parallel to the GiPA Norway Drivers study 2025, the fourth one in 5 years, we have also analysed and benchmark seven other markets in Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland and UK), where we find clear common trends like the ‘adoption curve’ and many differences in terms of maintenance habits and readiness of the garages to repair and maintain the BEV’s”.

Beyond sales: the aftermarket consequences

Electrification reshapes not only what consumers drive, but also how vehicles are maintained. GiPA’s latest study in Norway reveals that EVs visit workshops 25% less often than comparable ICE vehicles. This signals a structural change in the aftermarket value chain.- Maintenance demand declines: no oil changes, exhaust repairs, or timing belts.

• Wear patterns shift: less brake wear due to regenerative braking, but more tire wear from heavier weight.

• New services rise: battery diagnostics, software updates, ADAS calibration.

• Independent repairers risk exclusion without retraining and retooling. For manufacturers of spare parts and distributors, this means rethinking portfolios and anticipating reduced demand in traditional product lines, while developing expertise and stock in emerging categories linked to EVs.

Conclusion: same direction, different speeds

Norway shows the possible destination, while France reflects the complexities of large, diverse economies. For the aftermarket, the message is clear: electrification is not only a question of sales, but of resilience. The challenge for parts manufacturers and distributors will be to anticipate shifts in demand, invest in technical capabilities, and partner strategically with workshops to stay relevant in a rapidly transforming landscape.

Looking ahead: don’t miss the 2025 BEV survey

The GIPA Norway Drivers 2025 is now available and the GiPA’s BEV 2025 Survey for seven markets in Europe will be released in Q4 2025, providing an exclusive and up-todate panorama of EV adoption, consumer perception, and aftermarket impact across Europe. For manufacturers and distributors, it will be a crucial tool to prepare for the shifts that are already underway. 

INTRODUCTORY NOTE FROM SYLVAIN ABERGEL

Chairman, Amerigo International

At Amerigo International, we are proud to join the NEXUS community and bring our international network of over 50 members and 35 supplier partners into this forward-thinking ecosystem.

Founded in 2018, our mission has always been to create value through cooperation, transparency, and operational efficiency — especially in markets that are under-addressed yet full of potential.

We believe this partnership with NEXUS opens a new chapter — particularly in Africa, where the complementary strengths

of IAMAGA and Amerigo can be combined into a new growth dynamic. As a founding member of Amerigo International, Amerigo Global Parts plays a key role in this evolution — and it is through their operational and commercial leadership that we aim to structure a high-performing and integrated offer on the continent. 

INTERVIEW WITH MATHIEU LOSSON Group Sales & Marketing Director, Amerigo Global Parts

Amerigo Global Parts is a supply chain and trading platform headquartered in France and operating across multiple continents. As a founding member of Amerigo International, AGP is the legal holder of several strategic distribution agreements with global OEMs such as Renault, Stellantis, and Iveco.

Our mission is to deliver operational excellence, competitive access to genuine and premium aftermarket parts, and tailored support to independent distributors, especially in high-potential markets like Africa and the Middle East.

How do you see the future of the automotive aftermarket in the short and long term?

In the short term, the aftermarket remains deeply hybrid, with ICE still largely dominating many countries we are addressing, while electrification and smart mobility are gaining ground in others (mostly Europe).

Long term, we see a major shift: distributors will have to move from product-driven models to solution-based ecosystems, integrating digital tools, predictive AI, and OE-level service expectations. It will be less about selling parts, more about managing data, uptime, and technical support.

What are your expectations from the N! community?

Why are you proud to join?

We expect to build bridges — across continents, across platforms, and across supplier networks. NEXUS represents a community of action, and that’s what excites us.

We’re proud to join a group that dares to think globally, act regionally, and innovate constantly. The N! DNA is very close to ours: ambitious, fast-moving and collaborative.

What are you willing to bring to the N! Community?

We believe Amerigo Global Parts can act as a key accelerator and consolidator, particularly in Africa.

With our existing contracts with Renault, Stellantis, and Iveco, combined with the possibility to aggregate NEXUS’ private label range and the suppliers referenced by both IAMAGA and Amerigo International, we are working to establish a “onestop shop” model for NEXUS and Amerigo members in Africa.

This model will enable:

• Simplified access to multi-brand sourcing

• Stronger purchasing conditions

• Consolidated logistics

• Faster deployment of tailored regional programs

Our goal is to offer a powerful, integrated, and resilient supply solution to support long-term growth on the continent.

The transformation of the aftermarket isn’t just technological — it’s also human. In the coming years, the ability to build trust, activate networks, and share intelligence will matter just as much as data or platforms. That’s why we believe in ecosystem thinking, and that’s why we believe in NEXUS. 

BORG AUTOMOTIVE REMAN:

OVER 300 NEW PRODUCT NUMBERS FOR ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES IN DEVELOPMENT

ADDRESSING TOMORROW’S DEMAND

BORG Automotive Reman, the leading independent remanufacturer of automotive components, is working to significantly expand its portfolio for mild hybrids, hybrids, and pure electric vehicles. More than 300 product references are currently under development at BORG Automotive Reman for these types of vehicles, and more than a thousand are already available, each with its own dedicated remanufacturing process. This continuous development effort ensures that the company’s range will keep expanding with new, attractive part numbers tailored to the future market demand.

The trend toward alternative drive systems continues unabated: According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), around 413,000 new battery electric vehicles were registered across the EU in the first quarter of 2025 – a substantial increase of 23.9 percent compared to the same period last year. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle registrations rose by 1.1 percent to 207,048 units, while hybrid electric vehicles saw a 20.7 percent increase, reaching a market share of 35.5 percent . The aftermarket will therefore face a considerable demand for replacement parts in the medium term—and the market continues to grow. BORG Automotive Reman is already addressing tomorrow’s demand to ensure that the relevant spare parts are available to distributors and workshops in a timely manner.

Strong Focus on AC Compressors and Belt-Driven Starter Generators

While some products retain the same technology regardless of the powertrain, others—such as AC compressors and alternators—are evolving with vehicle electrification. As a result, BORG Automotive Reman is investing heavily in research to offer customers a broad range of remanufactured products in these technology categories.

Currently, thirty original electric AC compressors—used by vehicle manufacturers in electric vehicles—are being analysed in detail at the remanufacturer’s R&D centre. They are being prototyped for remanufacturing and subjected to extensive testing. These compressors are powered by

their own electric motor and draw energy from the vehicle’s high-voltage system, replacing the traditional belt drive that is no longer used in electric vehicles.

A similar process applies to more than 20 belt-driven starter generator (BSG) part numbers (48V), already in series production in mild hybrid vehicles from various manufacturers. These components support the combustion engine during starting, recuperation, and boosting.

Both product groups are now undergoing significant portfolio expansion. BORG Automotive Reman currently offers 34 electric AC compressors and a range of 12V beltdriven starter generators developed a decade ago for start-stop systems.

Many New Products for Combustion Engines and Electric Cars

In addition, BORG Automotive Reman has many other spare parts in pre-production that are equally suitable for combustion engines and/or electrified cars. For example, the company is working on around 30 electric steering racks, more than 130 electric parking brakes, and over 30 electrically actuated turbochargers.

As is standard practice at BORG Automotive Reman—and unlike many of its competitors—the company is not only focusing on fast-moving items but also on less commonly available spare parts. Also, the same high-quality standards are applied to every spare part. All OE specifications must be met before an item is approved for series

Electric steering rack undergoing remanufacturing—part of a growing range currently in pre-production.

remanufacturing. This requires a highly specialised team of engineers as well as—in some cases—collaboration with universities or other companies.

Observing Market Trends—Tapping into New Products

BORG Automotive Reman is expanding its product range for electrified vehicles in parallel with maintaining its range of combustion engine products. At the same time, the remanufacturing specialists are evaluating which other products in the field of e-mobility are suitable for remanufacturing.

Advanced R&D efforts drive the expansion of BORG Automotive Reman’s portfolio for electrified mobility.

One focus of in-house research is for instance on electric motors, for which pilot projects are already underway.

“Today we are experiencing an environment where both vehicle powertrains and product technologies are evolving. On the one hand, we need to identify new products that can expand our portfolio; on the other hand, we must ensure that our existing range remains future-proof, and that our pipeline of development supports this direction.” explains Lorenzo Gaspari, Head of New Business Development. 

A SHIFT IN POWER: REMANUFACTURED

PARTS FOR HYBRID AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Electrified vehicles are on the rise — and so is our range. At BORG Automotive Reman, we’re already supporting the aftermarket with high-quality, remanufactured parts tailored for electrified vehicles.

We offer solutions across all eight of our product groups — and in several of them, we’ve already introduced remanufactured components based on newer technologies, such as:

Electric AC compressors

Belt-driven starter generators (12V & 48V)

Electric steering racks

THE ADVANTAGES OF HYDROGEN IN HEADVY-DUTY APPLICATIONS

HYDROGEN: OPENING MORE LANES ON THE ROAD TO DECARBONIZATION

Some say the journey to zero-emission transport should stay in a single, battery-electrified lane. Others believe multi-lane highways will get us to decarbonization faster. At Dinex, we see hydrogen — in fuel cells and combustion engines — as vital complementary technologies, and if the market takes that lane, we have the solutions to support it.

Battery-electric trucks and buses have proven their worth for urban and regional deliveries on predictable routes. But for the heaviest, long-distance applications, hydrogen’s advantages stand out: it’s carbon-free, offers more than three times the specific energy of diesel, and is easy to store, transport, and refuel.

The shift to hydrogen-powered transport is likely to come in two waves: first with hydrogen combustion engines (H₂-ICE), and later with fuel-cell electric vehicles

(FCEVs). Here’s a quick look at each technology, why both matter, and how Dinex delivers the systems that make them work.

Step no.1: The Hydrogen Combustion Engine

Not long ago, the idea of a hydrogen-fueled engine was met with skepticism. This year, MAN launches a 200-vehicle pilot series, other major OEMs are presenting prototypes, and JCB holds one of the world’s first type approvals.

THE ADVANTAGES OF HYDROGEN IN HEADVY-DUTY APPLICATIONS

Technically similar to today’s gas engines, an H₂-ICE allows OEMs to use their existing production lines and supply chains, making it a rapid first step toward hydrogen transport and the refueling infrastructure it requires.

Burning hydrogen produces almost no CO₂, but NO x still needs control — and Dinex’s NOx Slip Catalyst (NSC) with SCR keeps emissions comfortably within the strictest limits.

Step 2: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

FCEVs use hydrogen to generate electricity for an electric drivetrain, with only water vapor as the by-product. Still in the early stages for trucks, they are viewed as the

long-term option where batteryelectrification is less suitable.

At their core is a catalyst-coated membrane (CCM), where hydrogen and oxygen react to produce electricity. Dinex’s high-performance CCMs combine durability and efficiency, and are tailored for Heavy-Duty applications.

Ready with solutions for all lanes

From hydrogen combustion engines to fuel cells, the road to zero-emission transport needs more than one lane. At Dinex, we already provide aftermarket solutions that make existing vehicles a little greener, while using decades of catalyst-coating expertise to help OEMs bring hydrogen-powered transport to market. And

when the time comes, we’ll remain a strong, full-system partner to the aftermarket for service, maintenance, and replacements.

So whatever lane the market chooses, we’ll be there to drive a greener and cleaner future.

A SUCCESSFUL PROOF OF CONCEPT

FROM AWARENESS TO ACTION: SCHAEFFLER & SERCA’S PATH TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE AFTERMARKET

Sustainability in Motion

Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions (VLS) embraces sustainability as its responsibility. Guided by the Schaeffler Group’s Climate Action Plan, the division focuses on extending vehicle lifespans, reducing emissions, and promoting a culture of sustainable repair through intelligent, circular economy solutions. However, achieving these goals requires more than innovation - it requires strong partnerships. One of the most significant examples is the collaboration with Grupo SERCA in Spain, an initiative that translates global ambition into local action.

Completa el Círculo: From Awareness to Action

In 2024, Schaeffler VLS and Grupo SERCA joined forces to launch the ‘Completa el Círculo’ campaign. The Proof of Concept aimed to support garages on their sustainability journey by raising awareness, building capabilities, and strengthening commitment. Many garages were already interested in the topic but lacked clarity on how to start or scale their efforts. This initiative provided the missing link: accessible education and practical guidance tailored to the realities of the aftermarket.

Understanding the Starting Point

The first step was a Sustainability Survey conducted across the SERCA network in Spain. The results provided a clear picture of where garages stood: 53.3% were fully committed and already applying key sustainable practices, 40% were committed but needed more measures, while 6.7% had not yet started and were encouraged to access guidance and introductory content. Overall, 78.8% of participants showed some level of sustainability commitment, while 21.2% needed to significantly improve or begin their efforts. These insights confirmed both the progress made and the opportunities ahead.

Digital Tools and Real Conversations

To turn knowledge into action, Schaeffler and SERCA launched a dedicated microsite, also titled ‘Completer el Círculo.’ The platform provided video content, tools, and self-assessment materials for garages and distributors. The initiative was further reinforced by a live event in Madrid, where distributors, garage owners, and Spanish sustainability experts gathered to discuss the survey results and explore five vital areas of sustainable business practice.

A SUCCESSFUL PROOF OF CONCEPT

The event blended keynotes, garages, and networking, creating a strong sense of community and momentum.

Sustainable Garages E-Learning

The highlight of the proof of concept is the Sustainable Garages E-Learning module, developed as part of the joint campaign. Integrated into the REPXPERT learning management platform, and set to launch in 2025, the course delivers a simple yet comprehensive introduction to sustaina-

bility, covering environmental, social, and governance dimensions. It offers a fully virtual 360° garage experience with clear, practical tips for integrating sustainability into day-to-day operations. This makes sustainability accessible and actionable for mechanics, technicians, and garage owners alike.

Completing the Circle Together

The collaboration between Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions and Grupo

SERCA shows how education, data, and partnership can accelerate sustainability practices in the automotive aftermarket. What began as a Proof of Concept is now a scalable model that empowers garages to move from awareness to implementation. By combining global expertise with local engagement, Schaeffler and SERCA are not just raising awareness - they are completing the circle and paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient industry.

IT’S A MATCH.

PREMIUM QUALITY OFFERING LONG-TERM GAINS

VOLKER VOSS, SKF Vehicle Aftermarket

Head of Global Training, Technical Customer Experience & Repair Solutions

SKF HIGH-QUALITY BEARINGS – A PROFITABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR WHOLESALERS IN THE EV ERA

Electric mobility is transforming the aftermarket, and bearings have become a key differentiator for reliable performance. Once considered commodity parts, they now play a decisive role in efficiency, range and durability. For wholesalers and distributors, currently getting new demands for EVs, this creates a major opportunity: by supplying premium bearings, they can secure stronger customer loyalty, healthier margins and long-term competitiveness.

SKF’s eDrive product family has been engineered specifically for electric powertrain requirements. With optimized internal geometry, a patented polymer cage for extreme high-speed applications, ultra-low friction seals and high-performance greases, these bearings deliver consistent low torque, high speed capability and reduced self-heating over their entire lifetime. Drivers benefit from increased electric motor efficiency, which translates into better performance. Enhanced range and fewer charging stops mean longer battery life and lower longterm costs. Additionally, quieter operation, greater robustness, and reliable performance ensure a smoother, more comfortable, and worry-free driving experience.

From an aftermarket perspective, the most exciting trend is the shift towards sustainable electric motor repair. Instead of replacing an entire electric drive unit, workshops increasingly service them by exchanging bearings and seals. This creates a growing demand for premium replacement parts. Wholesalers who stock SKF eDrive product portfolio are ideally positioned to serve this

demand and to become trusted partners for workshops adapting to the EV era.

SKF Vehicle Aftermarket is now introducing innovative repair solutions through electric drive system bearing and sealing kits, that contain all bearings and seals for a professional repair of the electric drive system. These premium-quality solutions set a new benchmark for sustainable repair practices in the electric vehicle market, helping to extend component life, reduce waste, and support eco-friendly mobility.

The market is evolving fast. With the number of electric vehicles rising every year, the demand for high-quality EV repair kits will grow accordingly. By supplying sustainable solutions, wholesalers can profit not only from higher volumes but also from stronger differentiation in a highly competitive market. Premium bearings are therefore not simply spare parts – they are enablers of efficient, robust and sustainable electromobility. For distributors, the message is clear: stock premium, sell premium, and grow premium. 

MORE RELIABLE VEHICLES THROUGH INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES

ADVANCING SUSTAINABILITY IN THE INDEPENDENT AFTERMARKET

As sustainability becomes a key driver of transformation in the automotive sector, at SKF we committed to enable a more responsible and resilient independent aftermarket. Our approach is grounded in science-based targets—validated and approved by the SBTi, responsible business practices, and a strong focus on customer value.

We focus on real impact—reducing emissions at the source across our operations and supply chain—without relying on carbon offsets or climate compensation. This approach reflects our belief that there are no shortcuts to sustainability.

Decarbonizing Operations and Supply Chains

SKF has already achieved a 59% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2019. Since 2021, our fully decarbonized factory in Tudela, Spain, serves as a model for future operations. By 2030, we aim to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 95%, and by 2050, reach net-zero across our entire value chain. In logistics, we’re cutting emissions through smarter transport choices, air freight avoidance, and packaging reuse—targeting a 40% reduction in CO₂ from transportation by 2025.

These efforts directly benefit our aftermarket customers by ensuring significant lower environmental impact from our portfolio.

Innovating with Renewable Energy and Materials

We are transitioning to renewable electricity through long-term agreements globally. In Europe, a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Enel supports a solar project that supplies one-third of SKF’s European electricity needs. We’re also innovating with materials: in 2024, we produced the first bearing using hydrogen-reduced green steel in partnership with Voestalpine. Collaborations with partners like Ovako enable us to use recycled steel and renewable energy in production— helping our customers reduce embedded emissions in their supply chains.

Strengthening Our Future Through People

We see a safe, inclusive workplace as key to success. SKF is committed to advancing gender diversity and inclusion. In 2024, we set ambitious goals to increase female representation from approximately 20%— targeting 30% among employees and managers, and 35% among senior leaders by 2030. Supporting this ambition, our STEM initiatives are designed to inspire and engage the next generation of engineers and innovators, helping to build a more diverse and future-ready workforce

SKF’s sustainability journey is about creating long-term value—for our customers, our people, and the planet. 

VALEO REMAN: CONTRIBUTE TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND GET REWARDED

Remanufacturing is an alternative to new manufacturing that contributes to preserving resources. By reusing up to 80% of materials, it helps reduce the need for new resource extraction and minimizes industrial waste. So why throw away when you can give used parts a second life? That’s exactly what Valeo Reman is about.

A Circular Product Offering

Remanufacturing is one of Valeo’s key circular economy initiatives for the aftermarket, and is part of the ‘I Care for the Planet’ program—Valeo’s commitment to progressively reducing the environmental impact of the automotive aftermarket.

Rather than manufacturing new parts from scratch, Valeo remanufactures more than 6,000 parts across four major categories: starters/alternators, brake calipers, A/C compressors, and clutches for commercial vehicles. These parts are remanufactured at Valeo facilities across Europe, with the main hub located in Czechowice, Poland. Components are disassembled, cleaned, repaired or replaced, tested, and reassembled. The result? Products that perform “as good as new,” backed by the same warranty.

Better for the Budget

Remanufactured parts cost less than new ones, making them a smart, budgetfriendly option for both workshops and final customers. Through a simple core deposit system, workshops pay a surcharge that’s

refunded once the used part is returned, ensuring an ongoing supply of components and supporting the remanufacturing cycle.

Why Choose Valeo for Core Collection?

Valeo’s core collection is flexible, free (with minimum quantities), and efficient. Returns start from just 15 units, with pallet pickups tailored to customer needs. Clear return guidelines, regional platforms, and a faster 4-week turnaround (since January 2024) further streamline the process while reducing costs.

A Loyalty Program that Gives Back

To further support its distribution network, Valeo launched the Valeo Reman Partner Program in January 2025. This initiative recognizes the loyalty of its partners by offering tailored rewards, such as exclusive events, personalized support, and enhanced collaboration opportunities.

More than a loyalty program, it’s a strategic partnership fully aligned with Valeo’s goals. By promoting remanufactured products, the program helps partners grow their businesses while actively contributing to a more circular economy.

Going for Valeo Reman contributes to making more responsible choices for qualitative products that are good for the budget and support the circular economy. 

SUSTAINING LEADERSHIP

POSITION BY EXPANSION OF THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE PORTFOLIO

STAY SAFELY ON TRACK: WITH THE NEW STEERING COMPONENTS FROM CONTINENTAL

Workshop professionals can now count on an even wider range of products offering the quality for which Continental is renowned.

Professional mechanics rely on Continental’s high standards of quality for their replacement parts. And they are now able to source even more parts from the same place, as our extensive portfolio has been further expanded to include high-quality steering components: inner tie rods, track rod ends and steering boots for repairs to the most popular models in the European market – including the latest electric vehicles.

WHAT

REALLY MATTERS

Mechanical strength, reliable operation and a precision fit –that’s what makes a good steering component. We offer registered workshops quality they can trust with a full five-year guarantee, something which no other manufacturer is able to match. This enables automotive professionals to carry out their repair jobs safely and reliably and delight their customers with first-class service.

YOU CAN’T DO WITHOUT THEM

Inner tie rods are mounted between the steering gear and track rod end and ensure agility, flexibility and driving comfort. The track rod end transfers the track rod’s radial forces to the steering knuckles.

This is what makes the wheels turn in accordance with the driver’s steering movements. The quality and precision of this ball joint can therefore be instantly felt every time the steering wheel is turned. Our track rod ends come with a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) boot and a special coating for maximum robustness, a long lifetime and optimum corrosion protection. The steering boot seems like a very simple component at first glance, but it is also immensely important for safety: these rubber boots protect the steering gear from dirt that might otherwise enter the joint. Moisture that could wash out the lubricant and thus impair operation is also effectively kept out. Incidentally, our boots are always supplied with the requisite mounting clamps.

UNCOMPROMISING QUALITY BRINGS BENEFITS

The steering components from Continental offer both motorists and workshop professionals a number of crucial benefits:

› Exact fit – precisely manufactured metal parts and threads ensure perfect installation

› Excellent durability – hardened, corrosion-resistant coatings protect against wear

› Maximum robustness – resistant materials to withstand even the most extreme conditions

› High-quality rubber/metal bonds – one of our specialties for many decades now, resulting in long-lasting quality

› Maintenance-friendly design – high-quality lubricants guarantee reliable performance

› Guaranteed quality – five-year guarantee for registered workshops

› Top service – free installation instructions, technical hotline and clear assembly videos

The new replacement parts are available to order now, and there are already plans to further expand the product range in late 2025. In addition to this, workshops can also benefit from practical services, such as free installation instructions and service videos. Meanwhile, the handy article search function in the Product Information Center (PIC) makes sure that all relevant product information can be quickly found. The arrival of the new steering parts means we are adding new categories to our product range for workshop professionals – just as we’ve done with our wheel bearing kits and suspension components. Together with our belts and drive components, as well as the corresponding kits, tools and services, this marks another logical step towards us becoming a one-stop shop offering a comprehensive, future-focused portfolio for the aftermarket.

Bosch spark plugs – technology that also fits for hybrid vehicles

Modern spark plugs such as the Bosch EVO are already suitable for latest hybrid applications and ready for future requirements.

There has been a continuous development of electric vehicles for many years already. As a technology to bridge the gap, the number of hybrid vehicles equipped with both a gasoline engine and an electric drive is increasing as well. These vehicles’ combustion engines are subject to the same emission regulations as other gasoline engines. Accordingly, modern Bosch spark plugs can be used for hybrid vehicles without any restrictions.

Bosch spark plugs: fit for hybrids

Car drivers highly appreciate the silent electric motor substituting the gasoline engine in inner-city traffic while effectively supporting it in operations under high loads – a relief for the spark plugs. However, this also implies higher frequency of cooler operating points. This increases the sooting and causes the spark plug to cool down more frequently. Deposits can build up on the insulator nose, which can create a partially conductive, competing pathway. This can result in an inefficient spark or in the worst case in failure to ignite. However, this doesn’t occur with Bosch spark plugs as they are subject to cold-start tests implying such an extreme temperature behavior.

Future-oriented technology: Bosch EVO spark plugs

The hybrid-vehicle car park will continue to grow while the engines will become more powerful and more efficient. Robust Bosch EVO spark plugs are already designed to cope with these upcoming demands.

Hybrid and battery electric vehicles need 12-volt batteries

Whether cars use an internal combustion engine or drive electrically –12-volt batteries supply many important functions.

Even if electric vehicles are equipped with a high-voltage battery, they require a 12-volt battery. In both battery-electric and hybrid vehicles, the 12-volt battery supports almost every electrical component and many important safety systems. While driving, it is charged by the highvoltage battery via a DC/DC converter. In case of peak loads, the 12-volt battery works as a buffer. For example, it supports turning on the windshield or seat heating as well as the operation of ventilation or the highly

battery the 12-volt battery serves as a critical backup. It takes over supply of safety-critical systems such as power steering, brakes and driving dynamics control to enable safe parking of the vehicle.

Providing energy while not driving

The 12-volt battery also provides energy to the vehicle whenever the high-voltage is inactive without charging – be it due to any defect or just a normal parking process. It then takes over the supply, since many functions must remain available safely. This includes essential systems such

as central locking and keyless access system as well as interior and exterior lighting. But of course also comfort functions such as radio, navigation and multimedia systems, online systems enabling status queries or remote control all rely on the availlability of the 12-volt supply.

Bosch batteries: reliability for workshops and drivers

With its broad range of 12-volt batteries Bosch covers 93% of electric and hybrid vehicles that are most relevant in the European market. They are powered by a range of high-performance 12-volt leadacid batteries. The powerful batteries

S5 A with AGM technology(1) and S4 E with EFB technology (2) featuring high performance and long service lifes are particularly reliable solutions for modern vehicles.

BEYOND EV KIT THE BRAKING SOLUTION FOR EV

Regenerative braking systems in EVs have changed the braking dynamics, with more braking actions performed by the electric motor. This lowers the wear on hydraulic brake components, but also exposes them to corrosion, affecting their durability and effectiveness.

To address these issues, Brembo has launched the Beyond EV Kit

The kit features a special copper-free friction material with a galvanized backing plate that reduces dust and noise during braking, improving lifespan and sustainability coupled with a special surface treated disc to avoid oxidation

To achieve these excellent results, it is recommended to use both the disc and the pads simultaneously.

EV Kit demonstrates Brembo’s commitment to use advanced materials and technologies to achieve superior performance and longevity.

INNOVATION FOR THE NEW MOBILITY

As the automotive landscape undergoes a paradigm shift, it is imperative to anticipate and adapt to the unique challenges posed by electric vehicles.

BRAKE DISC: Due to the regenerative braking system, the intervals between pad and disc replacements in EVs are typically extended. However, as a professional, you should remain vigilant for signs of oxidation, particularly in vehicles operating in harsh climatic conditions where brakes are utilized less frequently, as this is one of the major source of pain for drivers.

With the Brembo Beyond EV Kit you address this specific issue for EV drivers.

BRAKE PAD: Given the reduced clatter of electric vehicles, acting on the brake noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) is paramount. Special attention should be paid as well to brake pads to prevent excessive corrosion on the disc surface, ensuring consistent and reliable braking performance even after prolonged periods of inactivity. With the Beyond EV Kit, Brembo as engineered a specific friction material, that improves the lifespan of the entire kit.

BRAKE CALIPERS: Electrification is also synonimous with style. The X-Style caliper range is also designed for specific electric vehicles like TESLA, NIO and BYD, for drivers who are passionate about their cars and deeply care about every detail. Available in a range of colors, these calipers represent the perfect choice for anyone who want to personalize their EVs with the elegance and distinctive design of Brembo’s aluminum calipers.

BRAKE FLUID: While traditional replacement intervals are generally recommended for EVs, low viscosity fluids are preferred to ensure optimal performance, that’s why Brembo suggest to pair the Beyond EV Kit with its DOT 4 LV, to obtain the maximum benefits.

The ramifications of this transition have and will continue to filter through to the independent aftermarket, where both workshops and the technicians undertaking service and repair work on EVs have had to significantly upskill to meet the challenges presented by the developing technology. They also need to have access to high-quality replacement components to ensure that, alongside the necessary technical knowledge, they have the tools they need to successfully serve their customers’ EV requirements.

DENSO Aftermarket Europe can assist them with both areas as its OE quality components, which now number 788 parts across 30 product groups, for more than 11,200 applications covering 613 vehicle makes and models, and its comprehensive technical resources, provide professionals with a real-world EV solution.

Looking in detail, it is worth starting with air conditioning (AC) products because, as well as being a specialist area for DENSO, where it is a notable OE supplier to many VMs, the system differs between combustion engine vehicles and EVs.

Although both systems have the same function, there are several distinctions in how they operate, not least the compressor, which is the central component of both. DENSO’s high-voltage aftermarket E-compressors are

SUPPORTING THE INDEPENDENT MARKET THROUGH ELECTRIFICATION

Across Europe, the number of electrified vehicles (EVs), including BEVs, FCEVs, HEVs and MHEVs is growing rapidly, as vehicle manufacturers (VMs) have almost universally embraced electrification across their models.

available for several Lexus and Toyota EV applications and its condensers are OE fitment with several VMs, while the aftermarket range caters to almost 150 applications.

In addition to ensuring the peak performance of the AC system, premium quality cabin air filters also safeguard the health and well-being of the vehicle’s occupants, and this is another category where DENSO has a comprehensive aftermarket offering, with application references for more than 1040 models from multiple brands.

Thermal management is of particular importance for EVs, as the temperature of the battery has a big impact on the range of the vehicle, so DENSO’s thermal sensors and cooling-related components play a central role. DENSO is well known for its innovative spark plug technology and was the inventor of the Lambda sensor, products that are both vital for the efficient performance of hybrid EVs. Naturally, both therefore feature strongly in its aftermarket portfolio.

Finally, wiper blades are obviously common to all vehicle types, so underlining its strength in depth in this safety-critical area, DENSO wipers are the OE fitment for more than 7,430 EV applications.

To provide an idea of the EV coverage that DENSO addresses, many popular models including the Toyota Proace, Hyundai Ioniq 5/Ioniq 6, Kia EV6/Niro EV, Volkswagen ID.3/ID.4/ID.7, BMW iX1/i4/iX3, Mercedes EQB/EQE/EQS, Renault Mégane E-Tech,

Peugeot e-208/e-2008, Audi Q4 e-tron/Sportback, Volvo C40 Recharge, and Lexus RX500h/NX350h, are part of the comprehensive offering.

Introduced in 2020, the excellent training modules within the LOTM competition are designed to help technicians increase their technical knowledge and improve their overall skillset. Naturally, to keep the competition fresh and present important additional technical content, DENSO adds new modules every year, and for 2025 these include another highly topical, hybrid and battery electric vehicle course.

By combining the inherent knowledge within its various divisions, DENSO is applying its environmental philosophies to its EV-related activities and subsequently making a positive contribution to sustainability.

Collectively, these training modules provide detailed technical information concerning DENSO products, and the systems in which they are installed, a vital element for technicians responsible for EV service and repair.

Naturally, these practices also apply to its aftermarket programme, where this examination of how DENSO is embracing electrification demonstrates how DENSO Aftermarket is not only supporting the independent service and repair industry with the products and training it needs but is also promoting sustainability for the benefit of the environment and communities' well-being.

PREPARED FOR AN ELECTRIC FUTURE

Tenneco’s

DRiV Business Committed to Helping Customers Capture EV Service Opportunities

Conversations about electric vehicles used to begin with “If”. Now they are centered around “how fast”. While the shift to EVs has immediate implications for consumers and vehicle dealers, it will also soon affect the way in which the aftermarket serves its customers.

“Every major change in automotive technology was initially viewed as a threat to the aftermarket, only to become a new source of growth”, said John Perrin, Group Vice President and General Manager, EMEA Aftermarket for DRiV group. “There is a similar opportunity in the shift to EVs.”

What We Know.

Although electrification dominates the headlines, ICE vehicles continue to dominate European roads. These vehicles are also longer lasting than any earlier generation of passenger vehicles, so parts and service opportunities tied to the ICE car parc will remain strong for years to come.

One interesting fact about EVs is that the weight and positioning of their EV battery packs can exert added stress on many components. DRiV already offers more than 2,000 steering and suspension parts engineered specifically for hybrid and battery-electric vehicles.

These include better-than-OE MOOG track control arms manufactured from high-strength aluminium materials and featuring specialized surface treatments that further enhance strength and durability.

Many MOOG parts also now feature an advanced, “hybrid core” bearing technology that increases socket durability while providing smoother, quieter, more precise articulation.

DRiV’s Monroe brand illustrates the importance of a manufacturer’s OE portfolio to success in the future EV aftermarket. Monroe OE Solutions passive dampers –

used by leading EV manufacturers – and Monroe Intelligent Suspension electronic suspension technologies will ultimately redefine the aftermarket shock absorber service experience.

Braking Remains Strong.

Engineered for Electric Braking Power EVs place severe demands on brake system components. Additionally, brake squeal and other noises can be more apparent on EVs due to the quieter operation of electric drivetrains. To meet these challenges, FERODO has recently adapted its range to suit hybrid and electric vehicles, offering brake pads specifically designed for cars with regenerative braking systems, which have slightly different performance and durability requirements. DRiV is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of brake pads for passenger vehicles. This unique OE insight ultimately benefits workshops that rely on FERODO replacement pads. Also key to servicing EVs is using the proper brake fluid. FERODO has already introduced a first-to-market DOT 5.1 fluid – FERODO FBE050 – for EVs and HEVs to help workshops provide top-quality repairs of these vehicles.

Bringing it All Home.

No matter how big or small the EV service opportunity might soon become, it represents a fundamental change for every workshop owner and mechanic. This makes technical training more important than ever.

Garage Gurus has already developed training modules covering best practices for servicing alternative fuel vehicles and the team continues to monitor emerging service requirements and other issues specific to these vehicles.

“We are well aware of the challenges and emerging technologies in the automotive aftermarket and it is our mission to help workshops succeed in this new future”, said Marijn Staal, Senior Manager Marketing, Activation & Technical Services, and head of the Garage Gurus team.

Components for Electric Drive Units: seal solutions for tomorrow’s mobility concepts

Our shift towards a world of e-mobility means profound changes for drive technology as a whole. In particular, Electric Drive Units (EDUs) are placing new, complex demands on the components used. Seals play a key role in this – not only do they have to withstand mechanical and thermal loads, they also have to ensure electrical insulation and be able to be seamlessly integrated into compact designs. ElringKlinger is meeting these challenges with custom-made seal solutions designed with functionality, durability and integration capability in mind.

Seal solutions for central EDU assemblies

An Electric Drive Unit (EDU) combines the electric motor, gearbox and inverter in a compact, powerful unit. Each of these functional areas poses specific requirements on the seal technology – from the optimum choice of materials and ensuring precise geometries to the integration of additional functions.

Elring offers a comprehensive portfolio of seal solutions, ranging from traditional elastomer seals to highly integrated multi-component systems. Radial shaft seals – developed specifically to meet EDU requirements – are crucial here. These dynamic seals are indispensable for ensuring the functionality and durability of the assemblies. They reliably prevent lubricants escaping and the ingress of dirt and moisture – a decisive factor, particularly in the demanding operating conditions found in e-mobility applications.

Use of different materials plus technological expertise to meet the highest demands

Electrified drive systems are subjected to different physical influences simultaneously: high temperatures, mechanical loads and electrical fields. To cope with them, ElringKlinger uses sealing systems based on a precise combination of materials and manufacturing methods. Metal–elastomer seals, for example, combine the flexibility of elastic materials with the sturdiness of metal or plastic carriers. Thanks to state-of-the-art injection moulding technology, different materials can be reliably combined to form a complete functional component.

ElringKlinger also offers pure elastomer sealing systems for very compact applications subject to high elasticity requirements. Another pioneering solution is the Metaloseal® system – a highly efficient, individually configurable sealing system based on metallic carriers, which can be designed with or without an elastomeric coating. The materials chosen and component design are perfectly matched to the application in question.

Functional integration as a competitive advantage

Modern seal elements do more than just their traditional task of sealing components. ElringKlinger develops functional modules, into which additional components such as sensors, filters, valves or assembly aids are integrated directly. These highly functional components not only enable a more lightweight and compact design, they also improve process reliability and system efficiency.

A strong player in the aftermarket: seal expertise for e-mobility in the IAM

This expertise is now also being put into practice in the ElringKlinger aftermarket. Selected spare parts are available for e-mobility applications under the brand Elring – Das Original. They include Dirko™ HT oxim – a high-quality sealing compound for demanding seals in battery housings, EDU housings and other electrical components.

One particular highlight in Elring’s portfolio is the supply of high-voltage components for the BMW i3. These include:

• S-Box Line: connection between the safety box of the battery pack and the individual modules

• Cell contact systems: contact solution for lithium-ion cells, including sensors for monitoring the voltage and temperature

Coolant Control Hub max from FORVIA HELLA

With the introduction of the new Coolant Control Hub max (CCH max), international automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA is further advancing the centralization of thermal management in electric vehicles. This highly integrated system optimizes temperature control for the drivetrain, battery, and cabin by using an innovative coolant distribution concept. The CCH max enables more efficient use of environmentally friendly refrigerants, simplifies thermal system architecture, and enhances the overall performance of electric vehicles.

Integrated cooling for maximum efficiency

The CCH max primarily uses a single water-glycol circuit to manage temperatures across the drivetrain, battery, and interior. This integrated approach

reduces the number of individual components and system interfaces. A newly developed cooling architecture allows for distinct target temperatures to be maintained for the battery and cabin within the shared coolant circuit – maximizing both comfort and energy efficiency.

Flexible heat pump system with self-heating capability

To meet the demand for efficient heating, especially under cold ambient conditions, the CCH max includes a versatile heat pump system. It utilizes multiple available heat sources such as ambient air, the drivetrain, and the refrigerant system itself. A key feature is the refrigerant system’s self-heating mode, which can independently generate heat when external sources are insufficient. This ensures reliable operation even in harsh climates.

Less complexity, lower weight, better sustainability

By consolidating multiple functions into a single module, the CCH max eliminates approximately half of the coolant and refrigerant valves typically required in conventional systems. The need for electric auxiliary heaters is also eliminated. This streamlined design reduces the system’s total weight by around 20 percent – contributing to lower energy consumption, extended driving range, and reduced CO2 emissions.

Comprehensive thermal management portfolio

In addition to the CCH max, FORVIA HELLA offers a broad range of components for thermal management through its IAM portfolio. From A/C compressors over radiators to electronics – all designed to ensure precise climate and temperature control across the vehicle. Running electric vehicles more cost-efficiently with Jaltest Telematics

Drive technology safety, high rates of vehicle availability and efficient fleet management are key to cost-efficient operation of electric buses and trucks. Cojali’s Jaltest Telematics is a solution that is already able to collect the necessary information from vehicles and analyze it using AI, despite an ongoing lack of communication standards.

The number of electric buses operating in urban passenger transportation continues to grow. However, the fact that the drive technology and in particular the battery technology are less mature than in diesel vehicles, poses a number of specific challenges for fleet operators. “These include vehicle safety, for example protecting the batteries against thermal runaway and sudden drops in charge. In addition, the higher downtime and complex operations management compared to conventional vehicles make the fleet less cost-efficient”, explains José Ángel Gallego, Global Director Business Development Connectivity & Data Analytics at Jaltest Telematics. According to his figures, the fact that the battery technology is less mature means that electric buses have up to 15 percent more downtime. “

This is also partly because there is still only limited technical documentation for electric buses, not to mention a lack of industry standards and efficient aftersales service”, he adds. An electric bus fleet management system needs to monitor a number

of additional factors in real time, for example battery state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH), charging point availability along the route, and power consumption. This is vital if the buses are to provide a reliable transportation service that is as cost-efficient as possible, so that they can fully replace conventional buses.

The right telematics solution could overcome all three of these challenges by making use of the information from the battery management system (BMS). Until now, however, a lack of vehicle communication standards has prevented efficient use of this data.

“The BMS is a black box. There is limited ability to collect and analyze data from the electric vehicle’s CAN bus”, says diagnostics expert Gallego. However, Jaltest Telematics by Cojali, a Knorr-Bremse Group company, is already able to collect data from the BMS and other electronic control units, thanks to its extensive knowledge of multi-brand diagnostics protocols and vehicle communication.

JALTEST TELEMATICS assists in analyzing the battery management system.

“Jaltest Telematics provides monitoring and remote diagnostics tools that can anticipate vehicle failures before they occur, enable predictive maintenance and minimize vehicle downtimes. The system thus helps to run truck and bus fleets more cost-efficiently”, says Gallego. Jaltest Telematics monitors the battery and other vehicle systems that are controlled by an ECU, analyzes vehicle data in real time, and is able to carry out advanced remote diagnostics with twoway communication. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is key to this functionality. The Cojali solution’s self-learning analytics models allow it to estimate the lifetime of different systems, predict potential failures and determine optimal maintenance windows. The telematics solution also shows the battery state of

charge in real time and, depending on the specific operating conditions, provides information about key battery indicators such as voltage, homogeneity, charge distribution, temperature and state of Health. This also allows fleet operators to estimate the vehicle’s range. The early warning system and reports help fleet operators to optimize their electric bus fleet’s efficiency by anticipating problems and preventing downtime/ increasing vehicle availability. Jaltest Telematics is thus driving the transformation toward sustainable vehicle fleets. Satisfied customers who have already been using Cojali’s telematics solution for a number of years Include prestigious names such as ETM Valencia, ETM Madrid, ALSA, MZA Warsaw and Transdev.

Electrification – focus on the future with MANN-FILTER

Global filtration expert MANN+HUMMEL applies decades of filtration experience to the requirements of electromobility. With our high-quality filtration solutions, we extend and optimize the service life and performance of fuel cells, electric axles, and batteries. While electric vehicles do have fewer powertrain components, these parts also need to be checked and replaced over time. This creates opportunities for the automotive aftermarket and the premium filtration brand MANN-FILTER, whose portfolio already includes filters for electric vehicle maintenance.

The following filtration solutions are used for the different drive types:

Filtration requirements of fuel cells

Fuel cells are extremely sensitive to particles, corrosive gases, and water in the intake air as well as to impurities in the cooling circuit.

The cathode air cleaner from MANN+HUMMEL ensures that intake air is clean. This cleaner has a particulate filter layer that separates solid particles from the intake air, while its tailor-made activated charcoal layers adsorb harmful gases.

The ion exchange filter removes positively and negatively charged ions from the cooling fluid, keeping the cooling fluid‘s conductivity as low as possible to prevent short circuits in the fuel cell stack. Our coolant particulate filter is designed to protect the coolant pump from wear and prevent blockages in narrow cooling ducts within the fuel cell stack. This filter removes harmful particles from the cooling circuit.

Focus on the future with MANN-FILTER

E-axle filtration

Commercial vehicles normally have a multi-speed transmission that often requires better filtration to protect the hydraulics. MANN-FILTER offers tailormade filtration solutions for this, such as the W 7071 transmission oil filter for the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 and eActros 400.

Filtration solutions for battery systems

With air-cooled systems, MANN+HUMMEL uses cooling air particulate filters to protect the fans and battery system from dirt particles in the cooling air. The coolant particulate filter developed by MANN+HUMMEL efficiently separates dirt particles from the coolant in order to protect the system from pressure loss, wear, and overheating.

The future of cabin air filtration: multi-stage HEPA filter systems

Regardless of the drive system, cabin air filters play a major role in providing drivers and occupants with clean and healthy air. In electric vehicles, there is also a trend toward improving air quality through multi-stage filter systems.

Also effective cabin air filters such as the innovative MANN-FILTER FreciousPlus with its biofunctional coating and effective protection against allergens, bacteria, mold, harmful gasses and particulate matter. In order for a cabin air filter to function properly, it is important to replace it regularly. The recommended replacement interval is 15,000 kilometers or at least once a year.

Low-Temperature Wax Thermostat

Thermal Management

Engineering Challenges

Thermal management is a cornerstone of electric vehicle (EV) performance, ensuring optimal efficiency, battery longevity, and safety across a wide range of operating conditions. In cold climates, it becomes especially critical, as batteries and power electronics require pre-conditioning to deliver full functionality.

One innovative solution is the use of wax thermostats- compact, passive devices that rely on the phase change of wax to trigger mechanical actuation at a set temperature. In EVs, these are used to control & regulate coolant flow or trigger thermal events without the need for electrical input.

A particularly challenging yet impactful development is the creation of low-opening-temperature thermostats, designed to activate at approximately 15°C required for optimal battery functioning. This early engagement allows the vehicle’s thermal system to begin regulating temperature before battery or component performance is affected by the cold.

Developing thermostats at such a low activation point is technically demanding:

› Ultara Precision Wax quantity: The mass of wax inside the wax motor directly determines the opening temperature. At low temperature thresholds, even tiny variations in wax quantity can cause significant deviations in performance. Accurate, repeatable wax dosing is critical and difficult to achieve at a production scale.

› Material Consistency: The specially formulated wax must maintain stable expansion characteristics over time and across varying environmental conditions.

› Assembly Integrity: While not the primary challenge, sealing the wax motor — typically done via ultrasonic welding — must still be executed with care to protect the wax element and ensure long-term durability.

MotoRad has successfully solved these technical challenges and has been mass-producing this low-temperature wax thermostat for several years. The product is now used as an original equipment (OE) component in Volkswagen’s ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.6 electric models, as well as in the Ford Capri EV — a testament to its quality and performance in demanding automotive applications.

Through advanced process controls, MotoRad achieved high-precision wax encapsulation and stable, repeatable performance at scale. Their ability to reliably manufacture thermostats that activate around 15°C provides a critical advantage for cold-start thermal management in EVs- delivering ultralight weight component as well as efficiency and reliability without added energy consumption.

MotoRad’s breakthrough highlights the company’s leadership in thermal solutions and its role in supporting the growing global EV market.

Bold Initiative to Global Standard

Twenty-five years ago, in the halls of Automechanika Frankfurt in 2000, something extraordinary was set into motion. Backed by the vision of twenty aftermarket giants, TecCom GmbH was born — not just as a software company, but as an answer to a challenge the entire industry faced: the need to streamline and digitalise the order-to-cash process across an increasingly fragmented landscape.

At a time when B2B digitalisation was still emerging, TecCom was founded on the belief that true progress in the automotive aftermarket requires collaboration across the entire industry. “Connecting the Aftermarket” — TecCom’s original slogan — captured the essence of its founding mission. This vision laid the groundwork for what has become a global standard in aftermarket connectivity. Today, TecCom Order connects over 35,000 wholesalers and 280 suppliers in more than 50 countries, handling over 12 million orders annually.

Since 2013, TecCom has been part of TecAlliance, formed through the merger of TecCom, TecDoc, and AuDaCon (now TecRMI). Its integrated o ering has expanded further in recent years, with the integration of Headline, the foundation of Caruso and the acquisition of AutoTecnic in 2025. Today, the TecAlliance ecosystem includes solutions for digital order processing, parts cataloguing, repair and maintenance data, and market analytics. Each step addressed an industry-wide need. Each one solved a problem too complex, too costly, and too essential for any single player to tackle alone.

„From the very beginning, the goal was clear: to reduce process costs, raise service standards, and make digital collaboration across the industry a reality. That focus hasn‘t changed — it‘s what continues to drive TecCom’s relevance and impact today”, emphasises Fabrizio Giannelli, VP Global ITG & Partner Management, who joined TecCom a few months after its foundation.

For a quarter of a century, TecCom has proven that the aftermarket thrives when it works together. By connecting parts manufacturers, distributors, and service providers, we’ve built more than a platform—we’ve built a community.

Where does TecCom go from here? Already, TecCom Managed Data and the TecCom Excellence Program are helping partners optimise operations and increase competitiveness through trusted, validated data exchange. And with the recent launch of Market Share Analysis, companies can now benchmark and defend their performance in real time.

What added value do electric construction machines offer beyond their CO2 balance?

Firstly, electric machines are comparatively quiet, which has a very positive impact on the stress levels of employees on the construction site as well as local residents. In addition, they are significantly less prone to wear and tear and require less maintenance than machines with a combustion engine, which ultimately has a positive effect on its overall cost. Last but not least, electrified fleets add value for self-marketing and help companies to attract customers and young professionals.

Isn‘t the electrification of diesel driven machinery too expensive?

That depends on many factors, including the age and intended use of the machine in question. Conversion projects are certainly challenging and require new components. These include the traction battery, the electric drive train, and thermal management solutions for the driver‘s cab and battery. In my view, the question of total cost of ownership (TCO) is interesting. Even if the conversion appears costly at first, it can pay off over the whole life cycle.

How does an electrification project work?

The first step is to determine the requirements for the vehicle and the respective application. A large drilling rig requires different capacities than a small excavator. We then carry out comprehensive analyses and simulations to put the concept through its paces. If everything is in order, we move on to the concrete implementation. As part of our 360° service portfolio, we support our customers from the initial idea to the approval of the converted machine, rather than just supplying them with the appropriate hardware.

Is this type of conversion a standard procedure or is it different every time?

That depends a little on the machine. There are vehicle types that we have already electrified several times in collaboration with our specialist partners. In these cases, the procedure is almost routine. But there are also very special vehicles that we treat on an individual basis – which is what makes the work so exciting.

How often has Webasto supported such conversions?

We support electrification projects around the globe and with various types of vehicles and machines. In the coming years, however, more and more manufacturers will go into series production and then benefit from our expertise.

NRF, A LEADING SUPPLIER OF AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

NRF is strongly committed to e-Mobility, recognizing the fast growth of the electric vehicle aftermarket. Claiming to be a leading supplier of parts for eletric vehicles comes with responsibility, and the most important one is to actually have the parts available. Last year, NRF launched a complete aftermarket range for all Tesla models, and now the same is happening for BYD, one of the world’s fastest-growing EV brands. Expanding beyond its traditional scope, NRF now also offers steering, suspension, filtration, body parts and more for these vehicles.

COOLING THE BATTERY AND POWER

ELECTRONICS

In an electric vehicle, the cooling system remains an integral part of the powertrain. To ensure optimum performance, the batteries and power electronics must be maintained within a specific temperature range. The cooling system therefore retains its recognizable layout, with the radiator as a main component. The coolant is circulated by an electric pump to keep the powertrain electronics operating safely and efficiently in all environmental conditions.

A/C SYSTEM IN ELECTRIC CARS

As with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, EVs also have HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) for the passenger cabin. In ICE vehicles, the engine powers the HVAC system through a belt-driven compressor. In electric vehicles, this function is taken over by an electric motor-driven compressor. A poorly functioning HVAC system increases power consumption and reduces vehicle range, making proper maintenance essential.

INNOVATION RANGE –

COMPLETE AFTERMARKET OFFER FOR TESLA AND BYD

This is true aftermarket innovation. At Automechanika Frankfurt last year, NRF launched a completely new range of parts for all Tesla models. Expanding well beyond its traditional product scope, the range now features 25 new product groups, including steering,

suspension, filtration, braking, body, and exterior components. The newest addition is a full range of 200 parts developed specifically for BYD vehicles. The INNOVATION RANGE is continuously growing, including ICE references for Chinese brands.
