Last week Ms Allan, Mr Lastiotis and I took 22 Y8 Spanish students to Valencia. It was a great experience for all of us. We made the most of the time available and had lots of fun and valuable experiences We ate in a restaurant, went shopping in the market for food, ate 'churros con chocolate' (a famous Spanish stick doughnut with chocolate sauce) We saw the iconic buildings of the Arts and Sciences Park where we visited the Science Museum, which was showing an exhibition about space, and the natural world. We also had time to play at Gulliver's park before heading to the cookery school to make Spanish Tortilla, Paella and lemon cake.

The weather was good, we were able to walk around, see the architecture, have authentic experiences (going to the market, using public transport and eating Spanish food), so we really got into the culture and life of Spanish people in Valencia. Then they even got to sit in the cockpit on the aeroplane, before we left!

The boys all had a great time and Ms Allan, Mr Lastiotis and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience too

FCA inspiring Futures with our

Y7 and Y8

On Thursday 17th October, the FCA came to Rokeby School to work with our Y7s on the skills that are important for the world of work. Volunteers spoke about their roles within the organisation and how their skills and qualifications have helped them progress in their careers

On Tuesday 22nd October 2024 the FCA came back to work with our Y8 students on “My Finances”.

Ishaq Achour said: “In the workshop, I learned about the importance of budgeting. We budget so we can save money for our actual necessities. We can do this by substituting the factors that cost a lot of money with cheaper alternative versions which can work and are suitable for the person. This can save a lot of hard earned money. We have also learnt about scammers and how to detect them. We can detect scammers using lots of different ways like checking the URL for any suspicious things or checking the grammar etc. However, when you do get scammed, you can contact your bank, police or the FCA.

In conclusion, I think today’s workshop was very entertaining and educational.”

Fun language fact

On 18/10/2024, the Y9 Rokeby Football team secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against LDEUTC at Beckton District Park. It was an intense match, with both teams displaying skill and determination. Our defence held strong and the team capitalised on key opportunities to claim victory. A great effort from the players, who showed resilience and teamwork throughout the game! Well done, Y9!
