Don’t let your investments take a vacation
By Dan Whitley
Summertime is almost here — and for many people that means it’s time to hit the road. But even if you decide to take a vacation, you’ll want other areas of your life to keep working — especially your investments.
So, how can you prevent your investments, and your overall financial strategy, from going on “vacation”? Here are a few suggestions:
• Check your progress. You want your investments to be working hard for you, so you’ll need to check on their performance periodically — but be careful about how you evaluate results. Don’t compare your portfolio’s results against those of a market index, such as the S&P 500, which tracks the stock performance of 500 large U.S. companies listed on American stock exchanges. This comparison may not be particularly valid because your own portfolio ideally should include a range of investments, including U.S. and foreign stocks, corporate and government bonds, certificates of deposit (CDs) and other securities. So, instead of checking your progress against a market index, use benchmarks meaningful to your individual situation, such as whether your portfolio is showing enough growth potential based on a compounding rate of return to keep you moving toward a comfortable retirement and other long-term goals.
• Invest with a purpose. When you work intensely at something, it’s usually because you have a definite result in mind. And this sense of
Want
purpose applies to investing, too. If you buy a stock here, and another one there, based on “hot” tips you might have seen on television or the internet, you may end up with a jumbled sort of portfolio that doesn’t really reflect your needs. Instead, try to follow a long-term investment strategy based on your financial goals, risk tolerance, asset accumulation needs, liquidity and time horizon, always with an eye toward where you want to go in life — how long you plan to work, what sort of retirement lifestyle you envision, and so on.
• Be strategic with your investments. Over the years, you will likely have a variety of competing financial goals — and you’ll want your investment portfolio working to help achieve all of them. That means, though, that you’ll likely need to match certain investments with specific goals. For example, when you contribute to an IRA and a 401(k) or similar plan, you’re putting away money for retirement. But if you want to help your children go to college or receive some other type of post-secondary education or training, you might want to save in a 529 education savings plan, which allows tax-free withdrawals for qualified education expenses. Or, if you want to save for a short-term goal, such as a wedding or a long vacation, you might choose an investment that offers significant protection of principal, so the money will be available when you need it. Ultimately, this type of goals-based investing can help ensure your portfolio is always working on your behalf, in the way you intended.
When you take a vacation, you will hopefully be more relaxed and refreshed. But if you let your investments stop working as hard as they should, the results could be stressful. So, be diligent about your investment strategy, monitor it regularly and make those moves appropriate for your situation. By doing so, you can’t necessarily guarantee a long day at the beach, but you’ll have a good chance of enjoying a sunny outlook.

Cheers to Stephanie Johnson: A TRUE COMMUNITY CHAMPION
By Mallory Hardgrove,Stephanie Johnson’s life in Stafford County is a testament to the power of giving back, embracing your community, and making a difference in that community. For 22 years, alongside her husband, Stan, and their children Simon and Sydney, she has woven herself into the fabric of the community, leaving her own mark of service and dedication.
Her journey into community service began with volunteer roles at the Aquia Harbour Preschool, where her passion for nurturing young minds ignited. This flame led her to further engage with education through roles in the Anne E. Moncure Elementary PTO and, later, the Stafford County School Board. As a substitute teacher and founding member of the Stafford Education Foundation (SEF), Stephanie tirelessly worked to bridge the gap between available resources and the needs of Stafford’s children and educators.
Stephanie has been passionate about the organization for years, and she was recently named the Interim Executive Director. Seeing the difference
and “realizing the gap between what was funded for Stafford County Public Schools and what was actually needed” catalyzed the creation of SEF.
“It is very difficult to change what the federal, state, and county boards of supervisors fund, but we could, as a group of concerned citizens, provide for our teachers and kids the extras that could not be in the budget,” she explained.
“We can’t provide things like teacher, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, and other staff members raises, but we can ask the community to support other efforts-- like innovative teaching grants, supplies, future educator scholarships, funds to help those interested in gaining teacher licensure, and special projects like Model UN. And we have done just that. Through the generous support of many folks, businesses, and corporations in our area, we have provided that little extra.” Providing extra is Stephanie’s mantra and guiding motivation, and her unyielding passion is amazing and inspiring.
© Best Version Media
“Every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances,” Stephanie said. “As a community, it’s our responsibility to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.”
Her belief in their inherent potential fuels Stephanie’s advocacy for children. “Children are not just the future; they are our present,” she affirmed. “Investing in their education and well-being is an investment in the future of our community.”
In 2013, Stephanie pivoted her focus from education to health, assuming the role of Director of Operations at Stafford Soccer. Here, she channels her boundless energy into fostering healthy activity and imparting life lessons to the county’s youth. Stephanie’s advocacy is invigorated by her desire to help and the need to give back to a place where she’s found meaningful connections and a genuine community.
“This community has given so much to my family,” she said. “It’s only natural to give back and ensure that future generations have the same opportunities we’ve enjoyed.”
Beyond her commitment to the county’s children, Stephanie has also created an outlet for residents to relax and connect. She was a founder and remains an integral part of Adventure Brewing Company, Stafford’s first brewery.
“That was, in the truest sense, a DIY project,” Stephanie explained. “The boys (as I will always call them) spent every night after their 9-5s creating their business plan, working with the county on changing ordinances– at this time, there were no breweries in Stafford– finding a location, learning about payroll, and accounting, and everything that goes into starting a business.” After the location was decided, the “real” work began, Stephanie recalled. With the exception of a plumber and an electrician, “the boys” did it all.
“It was so much work that the wives and significant others called ourselves the ‘brewery widows,’” she said.
Stephanie and Stan have played pivotal roles in its establishment and growth.
“Fast forward to ten years later, Stan and I are the Finance Team, and I book the bands and coordinate events, find new and fun things to do for our customers, like the recent Lake Authors showcase where three local authors did readings from their books and talked about their inspiration,” Stephanie said. “It’s lots of work, LOTS of fun and a great pleasure to meet new folks in our community.” Their journey from conceptualization to fruition exemplifies their determination and collaborative spirit.
“I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished with Adventure Brewing Company,” Stephanie beams. “It’s not just a business; it’s a hub for community connection and camaraderie.”
Somehow, Stephanie manages to wear another hat, as well, as she reignites her passion for the arts whenever possible, and recently returned to the stage after a 19-year hiatus. Her involvement in theater and voice-over work, through her business StephJoVO, fulfills her creative aspirations and contributes to the region’s cultural vibrancy.
“Being on stage is like coming home,” Stephanie said. “Theater has always been my sanctuary, a place where I can express myself fully and connect with others on a deeper level.” Stephanie’s journey into voice-over work was a serendipitous discovery, as she’s always loved audio books.
“Voice-over opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities for me,” she explained. “It allows me to lend my voice to meaningful projects and make a difference in the lives of others.” Stephanie’s involvement in the arts also led her to a meaningful role as a resident describer at Ford’s Theatre in DC and audio description team at the Kennedy Center.

© Best Version Media

“Being part of the audio description team allows me to make theater more accessible to individuals with visual impairments,” she shared. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m helping to break down barriers and create inclusive spaces.” Stephanie’s dedication to the arts extends to her advocacy for arts education in schools.
“Arts education is not a luxury; it’s a necessity,” she emphasized. “Through the arts, children learn to think critically, communicate effectively, and embrace diversity.”
With as much time as she spends in her various roles being a champion for children in Stafford County and fostering inclusivity in D.C., Stephanie doesn’t often enjoy a vacation in the traditional sense. Lucky for her, she believes her dream house in Aquia Harbor that “just spoke” to her all of those years ago is also her ideal vacation home.
“This sounds a little trite, but our home has become our vacation spot,” she explained. “We live on Aquia Creek, have a nice big yard and great neighbors, and I’m fortunate to live next door to my bestie! When we do get the time to leave, we go to the beach with friends.” She can also be found taking advantage of the camping and hiking at Prince William Forest or taking in a show in Stafford or Fredericksburg.

In addition to her bustling household, Stephanie shares her space with furry companions—a chihuahua named Foxy, her mother’s beloved pet, and two feline friends, Todd and Loucious. Stephanie is also the main caretaker for her 89-year-old mother, Jackie. It’s not hard to surmise that knowing Stephanie means loving her, and her love for this community is evident to anyone blessed enough to cross her path.
Through her relentless dedication to education, health, and cultural enrichment, she embodies the essence of a true community champion, leaving an incredible legacy and lasting impact for future generations. Stephanie also wanted to express her gratitude to her husband, Stan, Russ and Jacinda Patishnock (their Adventure Brewing Co-Owners), her SEF board, and the entire voice over community who “help get it done!”
No one lives in a vacuum– I know so many people that serve this community and have been friends, mentors, volunteers, and idea backboards,” Stephanie said. “Working together with like minded people who have a dedication to community is how we make Stafford a great place to live.

A Spotlight on
Student Council
By Tayler Tanks
Mountain View High School’s student council is definitely a force to be reckoned with! The Mountain View High School Student Council is run by Emily Mason. The student council is a very important part of schools because it allows the student body to voice their opinions and concerns to the administration. The main goal of SCA is to promote school activities and make the school a place where everyone feels like they belong.
From being able to join a club to being able to talk to someone who shares a common interest with you, students agree that it is a great way to voice their opinions while making a positive impact on their school community. Creating a space where all students feel comfortable voicing their opinions is a great thing to have in a high school setting. The Mountain View High School Student Council has many activities to get the students together in the community to have a great time while being in a school setting.
The big events they have every year are things like homecoming, pep rallies, and tailgates. All of these events are school-wide events to help create that sense of feeling that you can also have fun in school and in a more relaxed environment. With all of these activities comes a huge sense of community and unity within
the school. The students within the council play a huge role in all of these activities, from organizing supplies to decorating for events. With the funds from these events, the council is able to continue with all of the great things they do for the community.
President Tayler Tanks said, “Being in the student council is truly an amazing thing to be a part of, and the council truly feels like a family.”
With all of the positions in the council, each one is as important as the other. The positions include the following:
• President, Tayler Tanks: The president is responsible for creating meeting agendas, running SCA meetings, and communicating with the advisor and the rest of the officers.
• Vice President, Ava Verzosa: Supports the president with helping to establish the agendas for meetings and communicates with all officers. The vice president will be prepared to step into running the meetings if the president is unable to do so.
• Treasurers, Carlos ‘Charlie’ Padiila & Meagan Calvert: Helps to keep the SCA within a set budget, investigates costs for items of interest for SCA, and communicates with all officers.

• Secretary, Jillian Sanchez: Records notes on all SCA meetings, updates the folders/files so that all officers can find any/all information, and communicates effectively with all officers.
• Historians, Bradley Harris & Alishir Seytoff: Runs all social media accounts. Attends a variety of school events and takes photos, to help promote and support ALL clubs, teams, events for MVHS, and communicates effectively with all officers.
• The Den/Student Outreach/Student Interests- Lily Jones, Elizabeth Buckman, Lucas Kral, Catherine ‘CJ’ Southland, Alaina Corbin, Karessa Anderson, Ben Meinert, Morgan Cahoon, Gabriella ‘Elle’ Smith, & Christian Ceser: Communicates with all clubs/ teams to bring back information to SCA, so that SCA can support and promote all different groups for MVHS. Runs the Student Section for athletics. The student council is a huge part of the school, and without their hard work behind the scenes, the school would be missing out on so many amazing things.

Father’s Day Traditions Around the World
By Julia PesnellIn the United States, Father’s Day is an integral aspect of many families. It was made an official holiday rather recently, in 1972, and is now celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June. Being a day full of family gatherings, gifts, and overall a showering of love for all of the father figures, it truly is a special celebration. Many other countries around the world hold as much pride in a day to celebrate beloved father figures as the United States does, especially as each other country has developed many of their own unique traditions.
JAPAN
Japanese Father’s day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, and it is known as “Chichi no hi.” Flowers play a crucial role in this celebration, as a highly respected tradition is to give fathers yellow roses. Yellow roses are a symbol of happiness and inner strength. On this day, another critical aspect is the time the families get to spend together including family lunches or dinners, where they are likely to have a meal consisting of crab or prawn.
SPAIN
Father’s Day, or Dia Del Padre, in Spain is celebrated to coincide with the Catholic holiday of St.Joseph’s Day, on March 19th (and Italy celebrates on this day as well). This day is used to celebrate the life of Joseph, Mary’s husband, as he represents the values of a good father and husband, and the leader of a holy family. The Spanish culture has several Father’s Day traditions including, tres leches cake and other authentic foods, homemade gifts from the children, and friendly competitions such as soccer and sack races between members of the families.
INDIA
Father’s Day in India is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June, and is seen as a day to celebrate the personal heroes of each family. The tradition behind Indian Father’s Day is reciprocal between the children, who show their respect to their fathers through gifts, and the fathers, who spend time with their children to sow wise values into them. The gifts most commonly given are homemade cards and flowers. Indian families also often go out to a nice restaurant for dinner, or go on a picnic and to a movie to celebrate the father figures and personal heroes of each family.
THAILAND
Thai Father’s Day, more commonly known as Wan Por in Thailand, is celebrated on December 5th. This date corresponds with the King Bhumibol Adulyadej Birthday Commemoration Day, the day their highly-valued late king was born. On this day, families present their fathers and grandfathers with a canna flower called “dok phuttha raksa” in Thai. There are also many festivals on this day to honor the late king’s birthday celebration and have a fun day to celebrate father figures.
KATHMANDU
VALLEY OF NEPAL
These natives use the Father’s Day celebration to honor father figures who have already passed, and they do so with a day in late August or September called, “Gokarna Aunsi”, meaning, “day for looking at father’s face”. The specific fate carries yearly, as the day of honor must coincide with the lunar calendar, and the new moon day.

SOUTH AFRICA

The celebration of Father’s Day in South Africa takes place on the third Sunday in June, and is a day honoring the critical role father’s place in nurturing and cultivating children, as well as building a strong, well-rounded society. This is a day for families to spend quality time together, and many South Africans use this time to go out for a picnic in the sun, or fishing in a nearby lake wishing to catch their dinner. Children give their fathers handmade cards, flowers, neckties, and novel gifts.
No matter the way you celebrate Father’s Day, it is certain that it is a day full of expressed gratefulness, thankfulness, and love, for the wonderful people who play strong father figures throughout our lives.

Dori’s Local Favorites

Super Salsa
(con Frijoles Negros) By Henry JeunetAbout 20 years ago, my mother introduced me to a salsa recipe that she got from a friend. The black beans made me nervous, but I gave it a try. I was blown away.
For the next few years, anytime I went to a picnic or potluck dinner, I always made sure to bring this salsa. It was super-easy to make and it always stood out. It even won an “award” at one party. For that contest, I needed to give it a name, so I wrote “Super Salsa con Frijoles Negros,” which just means “Super Salsa with Black Beans.” And the name stuck.
Even now, this recipe is still a hit at home and at parties. Most of the ingredients can be supplied with canned food. But fresh ingredients are always better, so feel free to substitute at will. Just remember to keep the amounts as close as possible.
1 can (15oz) diced tomatoes, drained
1 can (15oz) black beans, drained
1 can (15oz) yellow corn*, drained
1 can (4oz) green chiles
½ cup Italian dressing
2 stalks scallions (aka green onions), chopped
Add all of the canned ingredients to a bowl and stir.
Next, add the chopped scallions. If you’re only using canned foods, the scallions add an aroma that freshens up the other ingredients.
Finally, add the Italian dressing. This is the secret weapon that makes this salsa stand out. Refrigerate (overnight if possible). Like revenge, this salsa is best served cold.
Serve with tortilla chips. This salsa can also be used as a topping for chicken or steak. Or you can add a few scoops to your salad. It’s extremely versatile.
*Early on, I once accidentally used cream corn, and the response was… not enthusiastic.

TIPS FOR GRILLING FRUIT
BY CASSIDY SCHWIMMER

Meat and veggies are common foods thrown on the grill in the summertime, but have you ever thought about grilling fruit? This tasty treat is a staple in my household as the days get warmer. Here are some ideas on how to grill up some sugary produce at your next BBQ.
Pineapple - A classic fruit to put on the grill. Grilled pineapple tastes not only wonderful on its own but paired with ham or beef for an added acidic taste. It can be grilled with or without the use of a barrier between the fruit and the gridiron. If you are worried about the fruit sticking, try adding oil with a higher smoking point and little taste, like avocado oil.
Watermelon - I know it sounds like this fruit wouldn’t grill well, but it is actually my favorite to sear! Watermelon, as the name suggests, does release a lot of water as it cooks, so try not to press down on the fruit when trying to get those perfect grill marks. Instead, cut this fruit into wedges with the rind intact, so it holds its shape, and then leave it alone! Sprinkle some salt (my favorite is flakey sea salt) or other savory seasoning to take the flavor to the next level.
Mango - This Latin American dish is popular for a reason. Often sold as street food, it is delicious and best served spicy! Sprinkle on some chile powder or spritz with lime. The best way to grill is to cut the fruit into halves, and then create a diamond-shaped pattern by scoring the flesh, taking care not to cut the skin. Brush the scored side with some oil and press face down for less than a minute.
Banana - Who wouldn’t love caramelized grilled bananas? This popular dessert is best served with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream. Just combine honey and sugar, pour over open-faced, peeled bananas, and grill until tender. Very yellow or slightly greenish bananas work best so as to not overcook them. Cook them quick, though! These fruits will burn easily.

RESTORING THE NATURAL SHINE OF CLOUDY HARDWOOD FLOORS
By Steve Bressette, Apogee Hardwood CleaningHardwood floors are a cherished feature in many homes, admired for their elegance and durability. However, homeowners often encounter a frustrating issue — a cloudy, opaque film that can obscure the floor’s natural beauty. This cloudiness can be perplexing and disheartening to resolve, leaving many feeling stuck with lackluster floors. Fortunately, understanding the common causes of this cloudiness and knowing the right steps to take can restore your floors to their original shine.
The primary culprit behind cloudy hardwood floors is typically the use of inappropriate cleaning products. Products containing acrylic waxes or other residues can build up over time, creating a filmy layer that dulls the wood’s appearance. These products may promise a quick polish and shine, but they often leave behind a residue that accumulates with each application. The result is a floor that not only loses its aesthetic appeal but also becomes a magnet for dirt and grime, exacerbating the cloudiness.
Recognizing that a product buildup is at the root of the issue is the first step toward restoration. To tackle this problem, homeowners have two main options: a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach or seeking professional help.
DIY Process for Removing Floor Cloudiness
For those inclined to handle the issue themselves, the process involves several key steps:
1. Identify the Culprit: Check the cleaning products you’ve been using. Look for ingredients like “acrylic wax” or any additives that promise an extra shine or polish. Cease using these products immediately.
2. Choose the Right Cleaner: Opt for a pH-neutral, wax-free hardwood floor cleaner. These products are designed to clean without leaving residue. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid causing more damage.
3. Testing a Small Area: Before applying any new product to the entire floor, test it in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn’t damage the finish or worsen the cloudiness.
4. Applying a Stripper: If regular cleaning doesn’t remove the cloudiness, you might need to use a wax stripper designed for hardwood floors. Be cautious with this approach, as harsh chemicals can sometimes strip the wood’s natural finish along with the unwanted wax.
5. Regular Maintenance: Once the floor is clean, maintain its appearance with regular dusting and cleaning using suitable products. Avoid over-wetting the wood and use soft, microfiber mops to prevent scratches.
Professional Cleaning Services
For those who prefer a hands-off approach or if the DIY method proves insufficient, professional services like Apogee Hardwood Cleaning (571-604-0562) offer a hassle-free solution. Professionals have access to advanced tools and specialized cleaning solutions that are not readily available to the public. They can efficiently remove built-up wax and residues without risking damage to your hardwood floors. Furthermore, a professional cleaning can extend the life of your floors and eliminate the need for frequent deep cleanings. In conclusion, while cloudy hardwood floors can be a source of frustration, understanding the reasons behind the cloudiness and choosing the right approach to tackle it can greatly alleviate the issue. Whether you decide on a DIY method or professional cleaning, the key is to use the right products and techniques to bring back and preserve the natural beauty of your hardwood floors.

THE MOTTO OF JOHN C. FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL IS FIND A PATH, OR MAKE ONE!
The 2023-2024 school year is over. Some goals were met and some goals were missed. That is okay. It’s what we learn from the missed goals that can better propel us to the next goals.
Summer break is a time to celebrate the wins, reflect on and correct the challenges or missed goals. It is also important to take a break. We all need one and this includes our children regardless of their age.
The challenge is how to take a break, recharge, and limit the risk of learning loss that can take place during the summer break. Below are a few tips:
• The National PTA has great resources for families at all grade levels. It shows specific skills that are covered at each grade level and what you can do as a family to help your student. www.pta.org/home/ family-resources/Parents-Guides-to-Student-Success.
• Summer camps, internships, shadowing professionals are some ways to make productive use of time. I recommend looking at the local school divisions and universities, family and community magazines, parks and recreation sites, and local businesses that cater to students throughout the year for potential learning opportunities.

REMY’S REIGN: NURTURING HOPE FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS

“We help unwanted and homeless animals throughout Virginia by providing a foster home, medical care, and any necessary training to get them ready to find their forever home,” explained Lauren. Beyond sheltering animals, Remy’s Reign also contributes to the welfare of the community by providing trap-neuter-return (TNR) services for community cats and free microchips for pet owners, fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership.
At the core of Remy’s Reign lies a profound philosophy: that every animal deserves a chance to find a loving home. Lauren Todd passionately emphasized this belief, stating, “Every animal deserves a chance in life to find their forever loving home.” This guiding principle serves as the driving force behind the organization’s tireless efforts to alleviate the suffering of homeless animals and provide them with a brighter future.
Reflecting on her journey, Lauren recounts her early experiences as a teenage volunteer at a local horse rescue, which ignited her passion for animal welfare. “I started Remy’s Reign so we could assist more animals in need,” she explained, highlighting the pivotal moment that inspired her to establish the organization and extend its reach to help more animals in distress.
Despite the challenges encountered along the way, Lauren finds inspiration in the profound impact of rescue work.
“My biggest inspiration is seeing the look on an animal’s face when they realize they have been saved,” she shares. The joy of witnessing animals find their forever homes serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of their mission.
In its commitment to serving the community, Remy’s Reign organizes fundraising events to garner support for its cause, such as the recent paint night at Wine and Design in Fredericksburg, VA.
With unwavering dedication and compassion, Remy’s Reign continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of animals and communities alike. As Lauren aptly summed up, “We can’t save them all, but we matter to the ones we do save.”

Meet Courtney, a delightful 2-year-old Black and Tan hound mix eagerly awaiting her forever home. Courtney thrives in the company of other dogs and has a special affection for children, making her an ideal addition to any family dynamic. Fully house and crate trained, she eagerly awaits adventures, whether it’s going for leisurely walks or accompanying you on car rides. Courtney’s journey to finding her forever family began when we took in three malnourished puppies, aiding in their rehabilitation and adoption. Shortly after, we discovered Courtney trapped in a house for almost two weeks after her owner was incarcerated, while the puppies managed to escape. True to our commitment of never leaving a mom behind, we welcomed Courtney into our rescue, where she has since blossomed. Despite her incredible qualities and multiple appearances at adoption events and on our site, Courtney has yet to find her perfect match. Help us ensure Courtney’s story has a happy ending by opening your heart and home to this remarkable girl.

CONSIDERING CARPET?
How much do you know about carpet? If you had to choose a new carpet for your home, would you know what to look for? If you came to our showroom at NK Floors, and I sat down with you, coffee in hand, what would you ask me? You may share color preferences, the textures that feel flattering on your feet, and which rooms need a new, cozy comfort. However, please let me share helpful considerations for your upcoming carpet purchase. Together, let’s talk about…
Your needs. What does your life look like? Do you entertain guests? Do you have pets? Do you have teens or small children? Do you plan on placing the carpet in a high-traffic area? If you answered “Yes,” you would benefit from a synthetic fabric like nylon. Nylon is durable, resilient, and easily maintained. Triexta is also synthetic, durable, and stain-resistant. Polyester carpets are not as durable as nylon but are stain-resistant, soft, and beautiful. For a home that loves pets, Shaw Floors touts cleanliness and long-lasting beauty with ultra-durable Pet Perfect carpet and Pet Perfect+ with LifeGuard® Spill-Proof Technology. Mohawk PETPremier™ is a pet-friendly, sustainable carpet that is stylish and stain-resistant. For high-traffic areas, choose a carpet with fade resistance like Mohawk’s ultraSTRAND, and for a softer feel, Mohawk’s everSTRAND soft appeal. Stain protection, fade resistance, softness, and household members are good starting points for consideration.
Your style. Depending on the area where the carpet is to be placed, you can choose from several styles. Plush carpet works well for living rooms and bedrooms. Showing footprints and vacuum lines should be avoided in high-traffic areas. Textured cut, having more than one color with a two-toned look, will hide

dirt and tends to hide vacuum tracks and footprints. This is an intelligent choice when considering high-traffic areas. Other styles that are excellent at hiding dirt and tracks are Frieze, Sculptured, and Looped or Berber.
Choosing a retailer with quality products and installation. This is where quality comes in. You receive superior quality if you choose a company offering products they believe in and excel in installation procedures. If you come to us, you will learn which carpet and padding is best, which transitions to choose, how to factor in furniture moving, carpet and pad removal, and everything involved from start to finish.
When considering carpet, consider your style and quality! Consider NK Floors!
WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK NK FLOORS FOR BRINGING YOU THIS MONTH'S HOME IMPROVEMENT CORNER

From Pain to Passion: My Journey with Massage Therapy

As I stood in line at the bank, the persistent ache in my shoulder reminded me of my struggles as a 26-year-old juggling two jobs to make ends meet. With each passing minute, the pain intensified, threatening to disrupt my work and daily life. Frustrated and desperate for relief, I made a pivotal decision that would change my life forever.
After cashing my paycheck and realizing I couldn’t afford a doctor’s visit, I turned to alternative solutions. A massage seemed like a feasible option, so I quickly booked a session with a local massage therapist. To my surprise, the 30-minute session alleviated my shoulder pain and sparked a newfound passion within me.
As I left the therapist’s office, I couldn’t help but marvel at the impact a simple massage had on my well-being. The therapist’s ability to relieve my pain in just 30 minutes was not only impressive but also inspiring. At that moment, I decided to pursue a career in massage therapy.
Back pain is a common affliction that many of us experience due to various factors such as structural issues, muscle tightness, poor diet, and stress. However, I discovered that proactive measures like spending time with wellness-minded individuals, incorporating daily exercise routines, addressing nutritional deficiencies, and receiving regular massages can significantly improve our overall health and well-being.
Massage therapy, in particular, has a long history as a form of manual medicine and is widely accepted in medical settings. It offers numerous benefits, from relieving muscle tension and softening tissues to promoting mental relaxation and reducing stress.
At Bear River Wellness Spa, we prioritize creating a serene and welcoming environment where clients can escape the pressures of daily life and invest in their health.
We are located at 29 Banks Ford Pkwy, Fredericksburg. We offer a comprehensive range of massage therapies tailored to meet your needs. Our ex-

perienced therapists specialize in medical, sports, and wellness massages, providing targeted relief for injuries, chronic pain, and stress management. In addition to massage, we offer acupuncture services and a high-quality SunLighten Infrared Sauna with red light therapy to enhance your holistic wellness journey. Our convenient location and flexible hours, including weekends, make it easy for you to prioritize self-care and well-being!
My journey with massage therapy has been transformative, leading me from pain to passion. I hope I have inspired you to experience the benefits firsthand and embark on your wellness journey at Bear River Massage Spa.
Here, you’ll find relief for your back pain and a pathway to a healthier, calmer, and pain-free life. Welcome to a world of wellness and relaxation!
