Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners

The Park District Board of Commissioners is the legal governing authority for Park District business. Park District residents elect Commissioners to serve a four-year term. Board meetings are open to the public and are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Joe Doud Administration Building.

Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Northbrook Park District Residents,
I hope your 2025 is off to a healthy and happy start, and that you are tackling this new year full of energy and positivity.
The weather outside is still chilly, but it’s time to start thinking about summer plans and enroll your children in the rich variety of camps we offer from June through August.
Our summer camps include swimming, sports, arts, crafts, STEM, theatre, dance, ice skating, hockey and golf, all geared to ensure that children have fun, learn new skills and make new friends.
Camps take place at Park District facilities and local schools with activities in parks, playgrounds and swimming pools, as well as field trips. The lineup includes half-day camps for ages 3 to 5 and full-day camps for ages 5 to 14, and many offer the option to attend for one week at a time.
Those who register by February 17 can save 10% on most camps, so don’t miss your chance!
This spring, as always, we offer an awesome lineup of family events, including Brunch with the Bunny on April 12; Pitch, Hit and Run on April 25; Spring Tea on May 3; and the Kids’ Fishing Derby on May 17.
Spring is also a great time to lace up your sneakers and be active outside in our parks and on our trails!
We invite you to join our youth leagues (soccer, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse) and adult leagues, including softball, pickup soccer (co-ed and women’s), pickup basketball, and men’s and women’s doubles pickleball tournaments.
I am confident that this season, everyone can find something to enjoy.
Warmly,

Chris Leiner, Executive Director

Join us for an unforgettable summer filled with adventure, friendship and fun! Our summer camp options provide a balanced mix of outdoor activities, skill-based learning, creativity and team-building experiences. Camps include hands-on activities, collaborative games, group challenges and many opportunities for personal growth.
Answers to frequently asked camp questions can be found below. In addition, families will receive comprehensive information and a Camp Parent Handbook in May, along with an invitation to the virtual parent orientation session on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30pm. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered families the week prior and a recording will be posted on nbparks.org/summercamps on Wednesday, June 4.
For more information or to register, visit nbparks.org/summercamps or stop by any Park District registration office. Call 847-291-2993 for additional assistance.
• New this year! Most full-day camps enjoy a longer day from 8:30am–3pm!
• Enjoy your favorite camps for even longer this year! Many camps offer an extended ninth week in August.
• Many camps use weekly registration options — allowing flexibility for busy summer schedules while offering the opportunity to switch between camp types to enjoy different experiences all summer long.
Note: Grades listed on the following pages refer to the camper’s grade in school for Fall 2025.
Summer Camp FAQs
Do you have a Lunch Program?
Yes! Families have the option of ordering lunches for most camps through our lunch program provider. More information will be included in the Camp Parent Handbook.
What if the camp I wish to register for is full?
If the camp you want is full, we encourage you to place your child on a waiting list (one per child per week/session). If space becomes available, wait list participants will be contacted. Payment is required within 24 hours of this notification to confirm enrollment.
What if I need to transfer or cancel my registration?
Requests to transfer enrollment from one camp to another will be granted only if the desired camp has openings. Any difference in fees for the new enrollment will need to be paid at the time of transfer. Contact the Park District in advance to transfer or cancel your registration. Refunds are subject to an administrative fee of 10% of the program cost.
Who will be working with my camper this summer?
Camp staff members are CPR/AED certified and receive extensive Northbrook Park District training which covers safety, leadership, mandated reporting, behavior management, developmentally appropriate activities, diversity, learning through cooperative play, field trips, bussing, pool and sunscreen safety training. Many of our camp staff are returning or year-round team members.
How can I start a payment plan?
Payment plans can be arranged at time of online registration. All balances must be paid by the start of the program.
How can I request a scholarship?
Residents who meet the criteria can receive financial assistance towards recreation programs and memberships. Applicants only need to qualify once per calendar year. Contact Melanie Cohen at 847-291-2995 or mcohen@nbparks.org for an application form or with questions about the scholarship process.
How is residency determined?
Some Village of Northbrook residents are not residents of the Northbrook Park District. Non-residents are charged a slightly higher fee. Campers who attend Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 or West Northfield School District 31 and are considered non-residents by Northbrook Park District are eligible for resident rates for 2025 summer camp at respective school sites.
If you qualify for the resident rate and have already registered for a camp, call 847-291-2995 to adjust your payment.
How are camp groups formed?
Camp groups are formed by age, school and/or ability. Children in the same camp will have the opportunity to be with their friends in other groups throughout the day. Friendship requests are not available.
How do I indicate a need for NSSRA support?
Northbrook Park District partners with the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) to offer recreation programs and services to residents of all abilities. NSSRA support staff is available to work alongside program participants, assisting with special needs and behavior. Participants requesting support must check the ADA box on the registration form. You do not need a diagnosis to request support.
Does my camper need to be potty trained?
Yes! Campers must be potty-trained before they start camp.

Meadowhill Aquatic Center Bathhouse and Mechanical Upgrades Project
Construction at Meadowhill Aquatic Center began in August 2024 following the regular seasonal closure schedule. The indoor renovation includes extensive upgrades to the mechanical equipment that pumps, filters, circulates and heats the pool water. In addition, the lobby will receive a new layout that includes direct access to the pool deck along with two gender neutral changing rooms, one of which offers an adult changing table. The main patron locker rooms will receive a refresh of the finishes while a new first aid room and guard break room will be created for enhanced safety of both patrons and staff. Outside, new shade structures will be added, effectively doubling the amount of shaded seating areas available to patrons. Additional improvements address ADA code
requirements along with the installation of a new fire suppression system and replacement of some concrete decking.
The timeline for this project is to open in June 2025, with a schedule that is dependent upon weather, permitting and the availability of the appropriate materials and trade workers. This project has been partially funded through a $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times in programs and facilities. That includes respect for all people, equipment and facilities and cooperative, positive participation. The staff will review rules with participants and may dismiss anyone whose behavior endangers safety or negatively affects a program or facility.
Are You Covered?
The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants; the cost would make program fees prohibitive. Review your personal health insurance plan to be sure you and your family have proper coverage. The absence of coverage does not make the Park District automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. In addition, certain high risk activities require a waiver/release form, which must be signed before the first class.
Scholarship Requests
Because we believe every Park District resident should have the opportunity to participate in our offerings, we will attempt to provide financial assistance to those faced with financial hardship. Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook assists the District with the administration of our scholarship program. Applicants who meet the criteria can receive financial assistance towards recreation programs and memberships. Applicants only need to qualify once per calendar year and application forms are available by contacting Melanie Cohen at mcohen@nbparks.org or 847-291-2995.
Inclusion
We encourage participation by everyone and provide reasonable accommodations in accordance with ADA standards. If you require program assistance for special needs, check the box on the Registration Form to be contacted by the District’s NSSRA Inclusion Liaison. Questions? Call 847291-2995.
ADA Compliance
The Northbrook Park District provides recreation opportunities for all residents and encourages participation by everyone. Programs and services are subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as all applicable laws regarding nondiscrimination. We are happy to make reasonable modifications to assist anyone with special needs who wants to participate in a program. Please contact the District in advance of a program to discuss any necessary accommodation or if you need Park District materials in a special format such as Braille, large print or audio cassette.
The Park District provides a grievance process for resolution of any ADA complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of a disability. If you have any concerns about Park District ADA compliance, contact Eileen Loftus, Director of Recreation, c/o Northbrook Park District, 545 Academy Drive, Northbrook, Illinois, 60062, phone 847-291-2960 or email eloftus@ nbparks.org. The Park District is reviewing its programs and practices in regard to ADA requirements and invites comments from the public.

IMPROVING COMMUNITY SPACES
The Northbrook Park District was awarded a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to fund improvements at West Park, located at 1730 Pfingsten Road behind the Northbrook Sports Center.
The grant from the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program will help fund a project that will include the renovation of three tennis courts, one sand volleyball court and segments of existing trail and the playground, as well as the addition of a picnic shelter, segments of trail to create a two-thirds mile continuous loop within the park, a multi-use sport court and native plantings. The total cost of the project is estimated between $2 million and $2.2 million.
As with any project of this size, the park district sought input from the community through an online survey and two in-person meetings held last year. For more information, scan the QR code or visit nbparks.org/projects
