SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

Voting in progress.

MEMBERS GIVE “GREEN LIGHT” FOR LOAN TO CONSTRUCT THE WAVESCREEN AT MARINA 29 APRIL 2016

At the recent Special General Meeting held on Friday 29 April 2016, majority of members gave the "go ahead" for the Club to take a loan from DBS for the construction of the 242 meter wavescreen at the marina. 42 out of 54 members in attendance voted in favour of the project, while four members voted against it.

of the pontoons will continue to deteriorate as work on the construction is delayed.

This approval was a follow up from the approved resolution at the Annual General Meeting in June last year.

Members at the meeting brought up several concerns – such as financial implications to the Club and members, viability and continuity of the project, feasibility of the proposed wavescreen design, the approaching end of lease etc – all of which were satisfactorily explained by Commodore Wee and committee members in attendance.

After months of rigorous work – which included in-depth wave studies in and around the marina by an independent consultant and several rounds of discussion with the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) – Commodore Wee Keng Hwee presented to members at the meeting the research findings, financial implications and projected cashflow of the wavescreen project.

In a positive closing note, Rear Commodore Tan Kay Toh mentioned that once the wavescreen is constructed, the Club shall focus on building up a reserve in anticipation of the lease extension. He also added that he is confident that with the government's outstanding town planning, the West Coast area will develop into a more vibrant location, particularly for leisure and recreation.

Due to a one-year deadline tied to MPA's approval, which was received in October 2015, Commodore Wee explained that work has to be carried out as soon as possible to avoid the lapse, in which case the condition

The meeting ended at 8.45pm and everyone adjourned to the Nautica Room for some refreshments.

Mr Erich Paulini raised several concerns to the RSYC Committee in a letter prior to the meeting.

ANNUAL DINNER 18 MARCH 2016

Over a hundred members of Republic of Singapore Yacht Club stepped away from their busy schedule to attend RSYC Annual Dinner on 18 March 2016 in commemoration of the Club's 190th anniversary. Being one of the more formal events on our calendar, members and guests took meticulous care on their attire – the gentlemen looked dapper while the ladies dressed to the nines. And to make it a special evening, we were privileged to have our Honorary Member Dr Tan Cheng Bock attending this dinner with his spouse. The event kicked off with an inspiriting speech by Commodore Wee Keng Hwee, where he emphasized that members should get actively involved in the Club's events – be it social, sea sports or communityoriented. With ardent support from members, the Club can continue to stay vibrant and relevant as an active sports and recreation hub in Singapore. The entertainment lined-up for the evening were provided by singers Mathilda D’Silva and Kelvin Kong along with their accompanying band. With a powerful yet sultry voice – Mathilda who was one of the finalists in Singapore Idol together with Taufik Batisah – performed a range of tunes from jazzy numbers to evergreen classics. TOMBOLA NIGHT 22 APRIL 2016

RSYC Tombola Night returned with much fanfare as members and their guests turned up to play the "Game of Numbers" on the evening of Friday 22 April 2016. Although several members walked away with some interesting prizes, winning or losing was not as important as getting together and enjoying each others' company on that night. Look out for more upcoming events at the Club!

maximise space to accommodate more larger boats.

Occupancy for wet berths and dry stack berths have been increasing from time to time.

Berths for larger crafts at our dry stacker are currently full; and we have only 47 berths left for smaller boats. These can accommodate crafts with a height of 2.1 meters to 2.9 meters, weighing not more than two tonnes.

At the beginning of this year, we received a high number of enquiries for berthing space; and some have chosen RSYC as their home base.

Despite the limited space on the dry stack, we have a few already on the waiting list for larger berths, with boats that are ready to come in. We are still exploring ways to

Do call us at 6768 9233 or email to marina@rsyc.org.sg, for reservations and enquiries, if you choose to have RSYC as your home base and port of call.

ICA CREW SYSTEM

REVISED PROCEDURE FOR PLEASURE CRAFTS/YACHTS SEEKING IMMIGRATION CLEARANCE AT GAZETTED ANCHORAGES With effect from 1 April 2016, owners or marina operators of pleasure crafts/yachts seeking immigration clearance are required to submit the arrival and departure notice as well as requests for crew related facilities online via the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s Computerisation of Records for Crew (CREW) Clearance System. The current procedure of submission of advance notification of arrival or departure to be made at least six hours prior to the arrival or departure of the pleasure craft/ yacht remains unchanged. However, under the revised procedure, all submissions must

be done via CREW system online. Nominal administration fee will be charged by the Marine Department for the services rendered to members and visiting yachts. The Club will only provide pre-clearance services while other services for the yacht’s agency will be transferred to a Shipping Agent. Kindly contact the Marine Department at 6768 9234 or email to marina@rsyc.org.sg, for more details on the new procedure and the relevant charges.

As for our wet berths, we still have berths available which can accommodate boats of 40 feet and above, right up to a mega yacht.

Marine and Security staff exercising emergency scenarios at the Dry Stack.

MARINA EMERGENCY RESPONSE EXERCISE The safety of members and staff is a top priority for the Marine Department. Staff in the Marine and Security Departments have been undertaking exercises to ensure that our readiness to deal with any emergency situation is high. Two such exercises were carried out in April. Both exercises simulated scenarios

involving a boat falling from height in the dry stack area. Our emergency response measures include arranging medical attention for any injured persons, fighting any fires, cleaning up any fuel spillages, and keeping non-essential staff and members well away from the incident area. We would remind all members

to visit the dry stack area as necessary only, and to stay well clear of forklift operations when doing so. The Marine Department will continue to undertake a series of exercises and staff training so that a high level of readiness to deal with incidents is maintained. Future exercises will include scenarios involving a boat taking in water, and an oil spillage in the marina.

WATER CONSERVATION AT THE MARINA The Marine Department is currently implementing measures so that RSYC plays its part in the national water agency (PUB) campaign for water conservation in Singapore. We encourage members to use hose guns when washing their boats so that hoses are not left running while not in use. We would also ask members not to flush engines for any longer than is necessary. Conserving water helps the Club to reduce its water bills, as well as being in the national interest. We ask members to support the Club in this important initiative.
