AT THE HELM

TREASURER’S MESSAGE Dear fellow members, We have closed the financial year-end as at 31 December 2015. An independent audit has begun at the end of February 2016 as we prepare for the annual report with the audited financial statement. The second half of the year (H2) financial performance were slightly better in 2015 compared to first half of the year (H1) by $181K (23.6%) with Total Operating Surplus of $1.7m less depreciation with Net deficit of total $905K for the year. See table below. Overall for the month of December 2015, the financial performances in most departments were plausible and we hope to continue to improve the revenue with controlled cost for a better financial bottom line in 2016. Sales Manager, Zulkifli Daud was redesignated as Head of Sales and Marketing to drive and actuate Food & Beverage outlets, Banquet, Rooms and Memberships’ revenue to achieve the budget for 2016. Mr Seng Boon Hong, our Maintenance Manager came on board on 1 December 2016 and was tasked to ensure the repair and maintenance works for the Club are adequate.

The National Wages Council strongly urges employers to move towards productivitydriven growth; and focus on the quality rather than quantity of the workforce as a key source of growth, productivity and competitiveness. This will allow for sustainable wage increases, and will help the Club attract and retain workers. In line with this, we have adjusted the staff annual increment for 2016 in reference to the economic growth forecast of 2% to 4%, as recommended by NWC with effect from 1 January 2016. OUTLOOK FOR 2016 The management team is expected to improve marginally in 2016, with projected revenue and costs in the budget. The expected improvement will broadly support the next phase of development project to construct the wave screen at the Marina. The Club remains resilient in management and operation in the absence of General Manager while the RSYC Committee is in the midst of the selection process. In the due course, we will have the new General Manager on board while all members of the RSYC Committee are doing their utmost best to assist management in

this interim. In closing, I urge all members to support the Club and patronize its facilities, banqueting services, accommodation and F&B outlets. Warmest regards, JEYENDRAN NAIDU Treasurer Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

HERITAGE

Members and guests at a rowing event at the Trafalgar Street Clubhouse.

A TRADITION OF CELEBRATION The Republic of Singapore Yacht Club has been fortunate to have come so far, thanks to the unwavering and ardent support from its active members. And celebrations have become an important activity throughout the history of the Club, where the common goal is simply to get members together, enjoy each other's company along with the myriad of food, beverage and entertainment put together by organising committee and staff of the Club. Very often, a celebratory occasion – with an assortment of scale – would be called for to mark a noteworthy milestone, welcoming a remarkable personality, christening of a yacht, a prize-giving for a regatta or to observe a seasonal holiday. This year, as we mark our 190th anniversary, let us take a look at a visual retrospective of the celebrations we've had at the Club throughout the years.

RSYC REGATTA 2016

CONTINUING THE TRADITION After a two-year long hiatus, the RSYC Regatta will return to the Singapore sailing circuit in July this year with more sailing action than ever before. This edition of the RSYC Regatta will take place over two weekends – 23, 24 & 30 July – and like in past years, classes of the regatta will be classified into IRC A, IRC B, J24, PY and Sailability categories. We are expecting to have more participants this year and will likely see the emergence of a new victor. Details are being finalised by the organising committee and interested sailors or sailing teams will be able to get their registrations their participation in the month of May. In the meantime, let us take a visual “flashback” to the past regattas we've had over the years! Stay tuned for latest updates and visit www.rsycregatta.org

STAFF BIRTHDAY & CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION The staff of RSYC got together on 26 January 2016 to celebrate the birthdays of staff in January, February and March, along with ushering in the Year of the Monkey. Gracing the event were Vice Commodore Balakrishnan B, Rear Commodore Tan Kay Toh and Committee Member Mr Albert Fong, who presented gifts to the birthday babies and hong baos to all staff. After which, everyone gathered around to give a "Good Luck" toss of the Lo Hei before tucking into a spread of goodies specially prepared by our chefs.

CHINESE NEW YEAR REUNION DINNER The Year of the Monkey was ushered in with much anticipation and gusto as members and their close families gathered at the Club for the customary reunion dinner at the Nautica Ballroom and The Wharf restaurant. Diners at the Nautica Ballroom were treated to a special musical performance along with lucky draw prizes for some lucky diners! Dinner at The Wharf, however, was slightly a more simple and "hands-on" affair as diners partook in a spread of "do-it-yourself" seafood steamboat dishes among other delicacies! The reunion evening ended with everyone having a great time catching up with their families and fellow members; and got everyone in the mood for more festivities for the following day.

"Live" band performance to keep the diners entertained.

CHINESE NEW YEAR LION DANCE PERFORMANCE The second day of Chinese New Year – 9 February 2016 – saw a pair of acrobatic "lions" blessing the entire clubhouse with their spectacular performances, much to the delight of both members and guests that afternoon. As a mark of welcoming in abundance, prosperity and wealth, the God of Fortune presented a "lucky" scroll to Commodore Wee Keng Hwee who graciously attended the performance. And to add on to the joyous occasion, members who dined at The Wharf for lunch also enjoyed a 15% off their total bill with $50 or more spent that day.

CELEBRATING EVERYBODY’S BIRTHDAY This year, the celebration on the seventh day of Chinese New Year known as Ren Ri or "Everybody's Birthday" coincidentally fell on the same day as Valentine's Day. Despite this, members and their families took the opportunity to celebrate "everybody's birthday", instead of the western celebration of love. As always, the Club's culinary team prepared a spread fit for a king, which included classical Chinese delicacies and of course, the suckling pig! Diners were also entertained by an agile team of Lion & Dragon Dance troupe, who specially made an appearence for the celebration!

MAHJONG COMPETITION After a break from the Club's event calendar, this year's long-awaited Mahjong Competition was received with great anticipation and delight by avid Mahjong fans among our members. Both members and guests, got together on 19 February 2016, to "battle" it out at the Mahjong table with the eventual winner – Ms Jenny Leo – claiming the top spot. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a sumptuous buffet prior to starting the competition, when the atmosphere peaked with festive joy and friendly chatter amidst the shuffling of mahjong tiles. Join us for yet another fun evening at the upcoming Tombola Night on Friday 22 April. See you there!

BOATING TO INDONESIAN WATERS ANY TIME SOON? TAKE NOTE OF THESE NEW CIQP PROCEDURES... Ahoy boaters and sailors! If you're planning to take your boat out to the Indonesian waters, please do take note of the latest CIQP procedures for doing so. For your information, the Greenbook, PIB and CAIT have been replaced with two forms which must be used for each visit from international waters. The forms are as follows:

to download the flow chart of the new CIQP procedures. A gentle reminder, you must enter and exit Indonesia through any of the 18 authorised and official ports for pleasure boats as listed in the Cruising Declaration Form. And boats/crafts must be fitted with AIS.

1. CRUISING DECLARATION FORM for Harbourmaster – bit.ly/g4h67dh5

Please take note that customs clearance may take between three and six hours on your first visit as authorities would want to be thorough; and of course, clearance also depends on the number of boats/crafts to be inspected.

2. VESSEL DECLARATION FORM for Customs. An online form – bit.ly/1TjEDpF

For latest visa policy, please go to this site: https://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/visa_policy_of_indonesia

Please note that both forms must be TYPED.

Please do share this information with your fellow boaters and sailors.

For cruising within Indonesia, boaters/sailors will still need the domestic clearance papers as usual for each trip.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact the Marine Department at 6768 9234 or email to marina@rsyc.org.sg

NO WAKE SPEED ZONES Recently, there have been numerous reports of boats speeding within the marina. The wake of the vessels traveling well above the “No Wake Speed” limit has resulted in damages to vessels due to the violent rocking, and in some instances there have been reports of crew members falling over the vessels into the water. As such, the Club sincerely hopes that boaters departing and returning to the marina can adhere to the “No Wake Speed” limit to prevent any serious injury from occurring or potential damage to the vessels of other members. If a vessel is found to be in violation

of the “No Wake Speed” limit, the Club will consider taking disciplinary action against the boater, in accordance with our By-Laws & Constitution. We wish to maintain the safety standards of the Club premise and thus would like to seek the cooperation of all boaters and members so that boats berthed at the Marina can have the assurance that they will not be damaged by the acts of other members. If you have any queries regarding the “No Wake Speed” limit, please do not hesitate to contact the Marine Dept at 67689234 or email to marina@rsyc.org.sg
