AT THE HELM
COMMODORE’S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Members, I would like to thank all members who took time off their busy schedule to attend the recently concluded 93rd AGM; and thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue to serve you as the Commodore of RSYC. We are very pleased to welcome new committee members Rangamani Ganesh, Tan Hui Nam and Martin Benedict for the coming term. I would also like to thank outgoing committee members – Mr Wee Keng Hwee and Mr James Tan – who had graciously contributed their time and effort towards the development of the Club. In the AGM, many views and suggestions were shared on improving our existing facilities to adapt to the needs of the members, the possibility of having a Who’s Who directory and also possible upcoming events and activities to revive the club. The Committee will review these suggestions and update our plans going forward. We urge members to support the Club by regularly patronizing its outlets, promoting our Marina Lodge and function rooms to their friends and business associates whenever possible and lastly to support the events and activities the Club has in store for you. Looking forward, RSYC is still facing challenges in its operation especially for Marina. H&I berths and the reconfiguring of the J Berth is in the final stage of construction and will be ready for berthing of larger yachts in 2019. The completion of the wavescreen project has allowed boating members to experience calmer water around the berths. The waterfront of the club is expected to be more vibrant with the marina fully occupied. We will also look into long term solution for the forklift issues. The Committee are
HONORARY MEMBERS HM Sultan Ibrahim Ismail DPM Teo Chee Hean Prof S Jayakumar Dr Tan Cheng Bock Mr S Iswaran
working closely with the management to maximise revenue opportunities in the Room, F&B and Banquet whenever possible. The tender for the addition and alteration to the existing Gym and Family Room closed on 7 May 2018. Three bids were received and our consultant has been reviewing and evaluating the tender documents. A decision to select the successful bidder will be made by the Committee at the end of July 2018. As you might have known, we have a new dining concept at the level 2 of the Clubhouse, named ‘La Pizzeria at The Bridge & Beacon Bar’ officially opened on 9th June 2018 - a causal dining restaurant that offers authentic Italian fire-baked oven pizzas and pasta made with hearty and fresh ingredients with time-honoured family recipes passed down from Italian Corporate Chef Francesco Romano. Featuring a delightful indoor-outdoor concept with unique alfresco seating and breathtaking view of the marina, come and enjoy an authentic Italian experience by the waterfront. Set lunch menus and monthly specials will be available. Do gather your friends and family and dine at La Pizzeria at The Bridge & Beacon Bar today. The committee will also look into the most important topic of RSYC’s lease extension this term. RSYC has to continue to be an inclusive sports and recreation club in order to have our lease extension supported by Sports Singapore, our lease title holder. We need to ensure that we are actively promoting seasports in Singapore, engaging with the community by taking part or organising community events and working in the development of sea sports activities for youth.

I would like to encourage all members of RSYC to come together to support the Club’s activities and help create a vibrant environment at the club. Lastly, do give us your feedback and suggestions to the management and Committee for the better of the Club. See you at the Club soon! The meeting was called to order at 7.30pm by Honorary Secretary Wee Keng Hwee. He gave a brief introduction of the Committee of the day. Commodore BalaKrishnan B. in his opening address thanked the members who attended the AGM. He shared the recent development at RSYC in 2017/2018. The wavescreen project was completed in the month of December 2017 and achieved its objective of providing safe berthing for members. The re-configuration of "J" Berths and the new "H" & "I" Berths was progressing well until 12 April 2018. During the installation of the 2 new pontoon, one pile collapsed and within seconds fell to the seabed and this will impact and delay the completion of the project slightly. Periodic updates will be given to the members. The Design and Build tender for the upgrading and alteration of the Gym and family room was closed on 7th May 2018 and a total of three bids were received. The consultant will be reviewing and evaluating the tender documents and a decision should be made by end July. He also shared about the launch of a new Italian restaurant - La Pizzeria at The Bridge and Beacon Bar- at Level 2 of the Clubhouse on 9th June 2018 to increase the F&B options for members and urge members to support the restaurant and its new

Member Mr Ong Soon Teik brought up the recently concluded Commodore’s Day held on 9th June 2018 for discussion. He felt that Commodore’s Day shouldn’t be open to the general public since it’s a family day for the members and brought up the issue of having loud explicit music at the poolside on that day. He also pointed out that there are non-members who showed inappropriate behaviour at the poolside. Committee Member Mr Nigel Ho apologized for what had happened and assured that it will not happen again. He explained that the event is opened to the public to promote membership to the younger crowd. The poolside party is organised to ramp up the event. It’s also an opportunity to maximise publicity for the opening of the new Italian Restaurant – La Pizzeria at the Bridge & Beacon Bar. The Club will also be more careful on the selection of the songs used for events and ensure that no explicit music will be used again. There are various opinions on this matter but most members supported the idea of having a lively event and having selected events open to the public to encourage more membership in order to revive the club.
Member Mr Edward Wong brought up on having a Who’s Who directory for the Club to encourage networking and improve fellowship amongst the members. Commodore Balakrishan will look into the proposal as there are mixed opinions from the members regarding this matter. Member Sebastian feedback on the frequent breakdown of the forklift over the last few months and asked how the situation can be improved. Committee Member Mr Francis Yeo mentioned that they are looking seriously into the matter and will find long term solution for the forklift issue. The committee also held regular meetings to discuss on this matter and assured that members will be informed on any decision made by committee. The AGM ended off with Member Mr Jimmy Khoo reciting his self-composed poem about RSYC. He encouraged everyone to come together and contribute to create a vibrant Club for everyone. The meeting was called to end at 9.15PM and members adjourned to the Nautica Ballroom for refreshments.

IMPORTATION, EXPORTATION OR TRANSHIPMENT OF GOODS BY SEA AT RSYC
Looking for a place to berth your boat? Look no further! With the completion of the breakwater project, RSYC is experiencing calmer waters around our berths especially during high tides and strong wind conditions within the marina. The improved conditions in the wet berths are attracting more interested boaters to relocate their boat and berth at RSYC.
We wish to remind all Members that the Club is not an authorised place for the importation, exportation or transhipment of goods by sea including yachts, pleasure crafts and ship spares. The importation, exportation or transhipment of goods by sea is only allowable via authorised places such as the free trade zones. Under the Customs Act, any person found guilty of importing, exporting or transhipping via unauthorised place is liable on conviction to a fine of up to $5,000.
We are pleased to share that we still have limited number of existing berths available for boats from 50ft (15.24m) to 50ft (21.3m). So hurry, make reservations with us now before it is fully taken up! Priority is given based on 'first reserved, first served' basis. If you have any friends who are interested to berth their boat here at RSYC, please contact our Marina Department at 6768 9233 or email to marina@rsyc.org.sg
For more information on Customs procedures and documentation for importation, exportation or transhipment, you may visit www.custom. gov.sg. To report smuggling activities, please call 1800-2330000 or provide your feedback via Singapore Custom website.
REMINDER: BRING YOUR PPCDL CARD WHEN OUT AT SEA Recently, we have encountered cases where Members did not carry their PPCDL card when spot-checked by Police Coast Guard on duty. Please be reminded to bring along your valid PPCDL licensewhen you are out at sea. A photocopy of your license is also acceptable if you are afraid of losing your physical card. Your kind cooperation is much appreciated.
NO WAKE ZONE It has been reported recently of a spike in boats speeding in/out of our marina, potentially causing damage to the pontoon structure, members' boats as well as discomfort to fellow boaters. In a worst case scenario, this could also cause a “Man-Over-Board” situation to unsuspecting boaters or other users of the marina. In order to prevent this, we wish to remind all boaters entering/exiting our marina to adhere to the policy of “No Wake Zone”.
