ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Please note that the 92nd Annual General Meeting of the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club will be held at the Quarterdeck on Friday 23 June 2017 at 7pm. The Club’s Annual Report 2016/2017, which includes the formal Notice of Meeting, will be mailed out to members during the second last week of May 2017. A new RSYC Committee will be elected for the year 2016/2017. Nomination for election to the Committee must be completed on the prescribed form, with an eligible proposer and seconder. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Club’s Administration Office. Completed forms must reach this office not later than 5pm on Friday 17 June 2017.

VISIT BY MEMBER OF ST FRANCIS YACHT CLUB

RSYC had the pleasure of hosting a visit by a long-standing member of St Francis Yacht Club Mrs Gina von Esmarch on Sunday 26 March. Mrs von Esmarch, who is Vice President of Voce Communications and daughter of St Francis Yacht Club's past commodore, was in Singapore for a software conference at the Marina Bay Sands.

Located on the shores of San Francisco Bay, St. Francis Yacht Club is a private, nonprofit club and was started in 1927. Its 2400 members have a deep passion for sailing and maritime history, and offers a wide spectrum of sailing and boating activities that include youth, club, one-design, inshore and offshore racing as well as cruising activities.

WATER & ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION AT THE CLUB

In a bid to conserve water and electricity at our Club, RSYC staff have actively been taking steps to ensure that precious resources are not wasted unnecessarily.

KEELBOAT COMPETENT CREW COURSE

Members who are keen to learn to sail, can now join the Keelboat Competent Crew Course.

We hope that members can do their part as well by reducing water and electricity usage when not required. These collective efforts will all go into reducing the Club's utility expenses every month.

Certified by Singapore Sailing Federation, this 4-day (2 weekends) course is designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of keelboat sailing; and will qualify you to become a competent and useful member of the crew, learning basic safety and seamanship skills. The course will run from 10am to 6pm on each of the four days.

GENERAL MANAGER’S NOTE

Dear Members How time seems to fly. 2016 has passed by so quickly and we are now approaching summer and the month long School Holidays just around the corner. Please keep a look out for the various activities organised by our Events team to keep the kids busy during this month long school break. The Peranakan promotion which started from 5th April to 30th April 2017 had a resounding response from our members and we would like to thank members who have supported this promotion. The Easter Day Brunch on 16th April saw a good turnout, tucking into the sumptuous brunch buffet and kids enjoying the activities planned out for them. The Wave screen project is finally underway and the piling will commence in the last week of April 2017. Our Marine department will be monitoring the works closely to minimise any disruption to our boaters. Details of the works will be out shortly and we may have to shift some of our boats to make way for the barge in the coming months. We thank you for your patience and understanding. As we stepped up our efforts in maintaining security at the pontoon, you may have noticed that our Security team have now set up a check point at the entrance of the pontoon during the weekends. This is to facilitate the charterer’s guests to board and disembark directly so that they do not loiter around the club premises especially during our peak weekend period so as not to inconvenience other members enjoying the club facilities. For safety reason, boaters are reminded not to embark/disembark passengers at the fuel pontoon which is strictly for fuelling. Please use the Layby area for embarkation/ disembarkation. We seek boaters’ cooperation. We have received feedback from members on the dress code in the club and I would like to remind members to abide to our club’s

Our Maintenance team is currently going around the club to install water saving devices pending the increase in water tariff this July and we seek members’ cooperation in this exercise to save our most precious resources – Water.

The Annual Gala dinner event – Great Gatsby is just around the corner 26th May 2017 at the Nautica Ballroom and I encourage members to support this event. And finally, our 2017 Regatta is now underway this coming July and we are truly excited to bring this race to the Western circuit and our Seasport team is working diligently to make this the most talked about sailing event in the Western circuit. So sailors do support this event and join team RSYC to make it a success. The Regatta team is also looking for sponsorship for this event and your participation/contribution is most welcomed. For those who are keen to be part of this prestigious sailing event, do contact our Seasport/Marina department for more details.

Using this data, we will be able to prioritize areas for shark conservation to protect what is left or rebuild populations that are in trouble.

The RSYC family truly enjoyed this Easter with a "big bang" of fun activities for both the children and grown-ups. Children had a blast at the facepainting counter and sticker tattoos to last the day, even the adults joined in the fun! With some delicious comfort food to fill their tummies, everyone was indeed full with happiness and love for the day. Not forgetting, the popular "Wine Tasting" booth, added on to the success of the event, with many delighted fellow members tasting some exquisite wines from France. To end the day with more excitement, the children, along with their parents, had a blast egg-hunting around the Club, and brought home goodies aplenty!

KEELBOAT LEVEL 1 COMPETENT CREW COURSE

Join us for this Singapore Sailing Federation certified Competent Crew Course. This 4-day (2 weekends) course is designed for novices who want to learn the basics of keelboat sailing; and will qualify you to become a competent and useful member of the crew, learning basic safety and seamanship skills. Course will run from 10am to 6pm on each of the 4 days. PREREQUISITES & CERTIFICATION Course attendees need to have a reasonable swimming ability, being able to swim 50m without a life vest. Upon successful completion of the course and assessments, attendees will awarded their Keelboat Level 1 Competent Crew certification. During the course, our instructors will take you through a mixtures of theory and practical sessions, covering: • Boat familiarisation, learning the terms and functions of the various parts of the boat, rigging, sails and equipment • Learn the points of sail and basic sailing manoeuvres including Man Overboard, docking, anchoring and getting underway • Understand the usage and rules of wearing personal safety equipment • Learn the challenges and practicalities of sailing in tropical conditions • Learn basic ropework skills, use of VHF radio, basic fire protection and firefighting skills • Seamanship – learn the basic rules of the road, use of burgees and ensigns, be able to keep an efficient lookout and understand common courtesies observed in marina and at anchor • Be able to steer the boat and trim sails to maintain a course, learn how to steer a compass course. • Familiarisation with basic weather forecasting and the Beaufort scale Attendees should expect to enjoy both theory and practical sessions each day. Do bring adequate clothes. We highly recommend the use of suitable hats, sunglasses and sailing gloves. All participants must wear non-slip, white soled shoes on board. SECURITY PROCEDURES FOR CHARTER VISITORS / GUESTS The Club, in its efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety and security, is stepping up security measures of visitors / guests visiting the Club for the purpose of boat charter / fishing charter. BOAT CHARTER & FISHING CHARTER 1. With immediate effect, boat owners and/or captains conducting trips, will be required to submit their passenger manifest and crew list 24 hours prior to departure. 2. Subsequently, upon arrival of their visitors / guests, boat owners and/or captains are to ensure that their visitors / guests register at the security post and assemble at the tentage area next to the security post for the boat owner or captain to personally escort them to their boat. 3. Visitors / guests joining the boat charter / fishing charter arriving via private mode of transportation and taxis are to

disembark at the security checkpoint, register themselves at the security post and assemble at the waiting area. 4. Taxis will not be allowed to disembark these visitors / guests at the main Club entrance or lobby. 5. Likewise, on return, boat owners and/or captains will have to personally escort the visitors / guests back to the security post again, where they will then be checked out of the Club. FAILURE OF ADHERENCE TO PROCEDURES Failure to adhere and comply with the above procedures will result in the Club exercising its rights to refuse entry to the visitors / guests joining the boat charter / fishing charter. We seek everyone’s efforts in complying with these procedures for the benefit of all members as well as the Club. FUEL DOCK USAGE It has been brought to our attention through numerous feedback as well as from our observation, that the fuel dock is now used to embark/ disembark passengers. The purpose of the fuel dock is solely for refueling and should not be a pick up/drop off point for any boaters, especially more so for charter/fishing boats.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS DUE TO THE BREAKWATER PROJECT We are pleased to announce that the construction of the breakwater project has taken off at the end of April 2017. Members and boaters alike, should take caution whenever using the pontoon walkways as sections of the pontoon areas will be cordoned off for works to be carried out. Temporary floating pontoons will be in place where entire sections are not accessible for use. We seek your understanding and patience during this entire project, as passing through of the worksite in the pontoon areas would only be permissible with 15 minutes advance notice to the safety officer on site. We will have provide more periodic updates as the project progresses.

For everyone's safety, as well as boaters who are there for refuelling, please refrain from using the fuel dock for any other purposes except for fueling. All embarkation/ disembarkation should be at conducted at the Layby for boats from the dry stack and at the berths for boats at the wet berths. We seek everyone’s cooperation in making RSYC an excellent Club for all.

NO WAKE ZONE

It has been reported recently of a spike in boats speeding in/out of our marina, potentially causing damage to the pontoon structure, members' boats as well as discomfort to fellow boaters. In a worst case scenario, this could also cause a “Man-Over-Board” situation to unsuspecting boaters or other users of the marina. In order to prevent this, we wish to remind all boaters entering/exiting our marina to adhere to the policy of “No Wake Zone”.
