President’s Report

With my term coming to an end in February, I would like to use my last President’s Report to reflect on my time spent on the NATM Executive Board and as president. The mission of NATM is to promote trailer safety and the success of the trailer manufacturing industry through education and advocacy, and I am proud to say that the current performance of our Association is meeting those goals.

During the last two years as president, NATM has been laying the groundwork for the first NATM Trailer Expo; building the NATM Academy and perfecting it for launch; building new benefits for Dealer Affiliates, such as launching NATM Connect and the NATM Knowledge Center; growing Trailer Safety Week, which has been backed by federal recognition for the last two years; and continuing to grow the NATM Convention & Trade Show.

The 2025 NATM Convention & Trade Show is once again on track for record attendance. As we gather in Nashville, I encourage you to look around and take note of those exhibiting and sponsoring events. As the only not-for-profit association dedicated to the light- and medium-duty trailer industry, every dollar spent is reinvested into Convention member benefits and association-wide educational opportunities for all members. A heartfelt thank you to everyone attending, exhibiting, and sponsoring this incredible event. Your contributions to the industry are truly valued and celebrated!

I hope we carry the momentum from the Convention into a highly successful inaugural NATM Trailer Expo. I’m especially proud of this event’s creation, as it directly responds to member feedback expressing a need for such an event. As requested, NATM is exponentially expanding its dealer support efforts. To fund these expanded efforts, the NATM Trailer Expo was created.

Similar to NATM’s annual Convention & Trade Show, which funds Association programming dedicated to trailer manufacturers, the NATM Trailer Expo will utilize the revenue generated from the event to fund dealerspecific programming and benefits. The profits generated from the NATM Trailer Expo will be reinvested into Dealer Affiliate benefits and industry-wide programming such as Trailer Safety Week, the launch of the 501(c) (3) nonprofit National Trailer Safety Council, the NATM Academy, Dealer Connect network, and more.

I am excited to participate in this next chapter of the association as Past President and hope to have you join us in Oklahoma City for the first NATM Trailer Expo taking place Sept. 16-18, 2025. NATM

Trailer Expo coverage starts on Page 45.

A pillar of the association is education. Both the Convention and the Trailer Expo contribute to the funding of educational resources like the NATM Academy. The NATM Academy is the top tier, on-demand education and safety training for the trailer industry. The Academy aims to consolidate nearly 40 years of industry knowledge and experience into a robust platform for on-demand education.

The NATM Academy is not just a one-size-fits-all approach. With courses designed in collaboration with NATM’s Education Committee and Technical Committee, the Academy caters to manufacturers, dealers, and suppliers. The courses range from safety training to managerial development, covering a wide spectrum of topics designed to enhance both knowledge and skills. This has been a huge undertaking and I’m excited to see members reap the benefits of the time and hard work that went into its creation.

While it is great to reflect on internal operations, we must also keep an eye on external factors, such as the recent election. Newly elected President Donald Trump ran on the proposal to impose hefty tariffs with the aim of encouraging foreign companies to produce goods in the United States and make U. S. manufactured goods more competitive.

Campaign promises are not always doable once a new president is in office. As the next weeks and years of his term unfold, rest assured the association, the Government Affairs Committee, and our Washington partners K&L Gates will keep you informed while lobbying for what’s best for the trailer manufacturing industry.

As I leave the helm of the association in capable hands, I take pride in the current state of affairs and all we’ve accomplished together during my tenure. I hope to see you all in Nashville, and I wish everyone a successful 2025. ■

Headquarters REPORT

With the new year here, I hope everyone has had an excellent start to 2025! This year marks a huge year of growth for NATM programming. Following the successes of 2023 and 2024, I am incredibly proud of what the Association has accomplished and what we are looking to achieve in 2025.

NATM’s annual Convention & Trade Show is just around the corner. The 2025 Convention & Trade Show in Nashville, Tennessee, is shaping up to be another great event for the lightand medium-duty trailer industry. With over 1,100 members, the Convention is an incredible opportunity to meet with peer companies, suppliers, trailer dealers, NATM Staff, and other attendees all in one place. We will be hosting a new Convention Welcome Networking Event with Dueling Pianos to kickoff our event this year, taking place on Monday, Feb. 17. This event will allow attendees to socialize and take part in an incredibly fun welcome event. The Convention itself will feature multiple great speakers bringing their expertise and knowledge to attendees. I look forward to seeing you all in Nashville!

2025 will also mark the launch of NATM’s Trailer Expo. Taking place in Oklahoma City from Sept. 15 through 17, NATM is returning to our founding state – Oklahoma – as we look to create an expo specifically catered to trailer dealer needs. Creating a cohesive industry was a core part of NATM’s strategic plan and the NATM Trailer Expo will provide an amazing opportunity to further incorporate trailer dealers into NATM’s mission of promoting trailer safety and success of the entire trailer manufacturing industry. The NATM Trailer Expo will feature hours of education specifically designed to meet the needs of trailer dealers, along with an exhibit hall where trailer manufacturers and trailer dealer component suppliers will be able to showcase their products for attendees.

2025 will mark the third year of NATM’s 2023-2026 strategic plan, and with the assistance of our Board, committees, staff, and outside advisors – 2025 will see a lot of these goals being achieved or advanced in a meaningful way. The work already completed in the area of Advocacy and Partnerships cannot be understated. With the assistance of K&L Gates and Regulatory Roundup participants, NATM is working hard to receive funding from NHTSA for our Trailer Safety Week initiatives. NATM has also created a new 501(c)(3), the National Safe Trailering Council, to assist with receiving funding. For the second year in a row, NHTSA participated in Trailer Safety

Week by sharing information on their social media channels about the importance of trailer safety on the roadways. Our strategic Education goals are continuing to advance as well, as NATM Education Director Ginger Baker-Sanhueza has put in a lot of work to the NATM Academy, I cannot wait for members to be able to access these courses. NATM has also seen an uptick in educational webinar programming, and I hope that you are able to take advantage of learning from your peers about best practices and other educational items of note shared during our Association webinar series.

NATM’s overall vision and mission have not changed from advancing trailer safety and promoting success of the light- and medium-duty trailer manufacturing industry. As an association, we will be looking to deliver more value to all our members via educational benefits, our Compliance Verification Program, and consumer education through Trailer Safety Week. This is an exciting time to be a part of NATM, and I am proud of the work completed in the past year towards advancing the overall industry.

In addition to work on the strategic plan, 2025 will also be filled with new faces as Board elections and new committees get set to start their work following Convention. I look forward to our new Board Members and committees bringing fresh perspectives and industry expertise and know NATM is poised to generate more value for members in 2025. Being the only not-for-profit member-based trade association serving the lightand medium-duty trailer industry, NATM is uniquely poised to receive programming feedback and suggestions from our members. I hope that you derive value from your membership and look forward to finding new ways to engage with our members and ensure that this Association continues to advance trailer safety initiatives and the overall success of the industry.

The NATM Staff has again grown over the course of 2024, and we now have more full-time staff than at any point in our history. With 17 total employees, I believe NATM is ready to continue to generate value for our members and continue to advance the overall mission of the Association.

As always - I hope you have an excellent year that is filled with success! ■

CONTRACTOR’S CHOICE

NATM Political Action Committee

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) established a Political Action Committee, the NATM PAC, in 2010. The NATM PAC serves to support Members of Congress who support the light- and medium-duty trailer industry and its positions on matters of public policy.

Campaign finance law requires NATM to secure “prior approval” from member companies before soliciting member companies’ executive and administrative personnel, stockholders, and the families of both groups. Member companies may not approve solicitations by more than one trade association in any calendar year. If, on behalf of the company you are authorized to represent, you would like to grant prior approval for the administrative personnel, stockholders, and the families of both groups of your company to be solicited by NATM

in calendar year 2025, please complete the prior approval agreement online using the QR code on this page.

Since its inception, over 60 individuals have contributed to the PAC raising more than $125,000 and those dollars have contributed to more than 80 incumbent campaign committees on both sides of the aisle. The PAC is governed by a Board of Directors comprised entirely of NATM Members. The PAC Board is responsible for developing both an annual budget and confirming candidates to whom the PAC will contribute based on specific, established criteria. Having the PAC Board comprised of industry members is a key feature of assuring PAC goals align with industry needs.

To learn more about the PAC, contact NATM PAC Treasurer Alex Stowe at Alex.Stowe@natm.com. ■

How Surface Transportation Reauthorization Could Affect You

Every five years, the U.S. Congress enacts a comprehensive bill that reauthorizes the majority of our surface transportation programs. This can range from highways to bridges to public transit. The most recent reauthorization was enacted as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which was signed into law in 2021.

The IIJA provided over half a billion dollars in new federal funding for surface transportation infrastructure starting in fiscal year 2022. With this funding due to expire on Sept. 30, 2026, the 119th Congress will begin working on a new surface transportation reauthorization bill starting in 2025.

According to the Congressional Research Service, “surface transportation reauthorization acts fund federal highway and public transportation programs, along with transportation research, intercity passenger rail, and other programs.” Most of this funding is contract authority from the Highway Trust Fund, which “derives revenue from taxes on fuels, heavy truck tires, truck and trailer sales, and a weight-based heavy-vehicle use tax.”

The bicameral process is an opportunity for Members of Congress to weigh in on the priorities of their states and districts, and advocate for the projects and regulatory improvements that would benefit their constituents.

While the deadline for reauthorization is not until September 2026, the committees of jurisdiction are already in the early stages of the drafting legislation. Committee staff from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, as well as the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee take the lead on crafting the bill and deciding what to include.

The massive surface transportation package delves into the funding and regulation of multiple sectors across the transportation, logistics, and manufacturing industries, and not only includes hundreds of billions of dollars in funding for highway, freight, and multimodal projects, but can include provisions related to truck parking, environmental review, automated vehicle technologies, highway safety programs, and more.

Members of Congress will use the surface transportation bill as a vehicle to move related highway safety reforms as part of that larger package. The Trailer Safety Improvement Act (TSIA) is a perfect example of such a bill. Introduced in June 2024 by Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee, the TSIA would permit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to direct federal highway safety grant funding to state Departments of Transportation for trailer safety education programs. Allowing local agencies to utilize federal grant funding gives the states the discretion they need to improve highway safety based on local need.

Larger legislative packages like annual appropriations bills, defense authorization bills, and surface transportation bills are frequently used as vehicles for smaller changes, making it easier to move through the complicated legislative process. As we get closer to 2026, stakeholders with an interest in projects and regulatory impacts related to surface transportation should make themselves part of the process and act early to advocate for their priorities.

Launching NATM Academy: A Partnership with U-Haul for Enhanced Learning Opportunities

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) is excited to announce the upcoming launch of the NATM Academy, a groundbreaking initiative designed to elevate training standards within the trailer manufacturing industry. NATM Staff Attend GHSA Annual Meeting

The Government Highway Safety Association (GHSA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit representing the state and territorial highway safety offices that implement federal grant programs to address behavioral highway safety issues. Their mission is to improve traffic safety and make our roads safer. The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) sent two employees to attend GHSA’s 2024 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they got the chance to speak with many attendees from all over the country.

While NATM Staff did see a gap in representation for the light- and medium-duty trailer industry, NATM is looking forward to filling that gap and spreading awareness to consumers on trailer safety. NATM is working hard to spread awareness through initiatives like our newly created nonprofit, the National Safe Trailering Council, and the National Trailer Safety Week (TSW) campaign.

Trailer Safety Week is an annual, nationwide marketing campaign focused on improving the safety of the nation’s roadways by raising trailer safety awareness through

education of end-users, dealers, and manufacturers on safe trailering practices. TSW was inspired by the fact that many end-users are vastly under-educated on the proper use of trailers, and utilizing safe trailering practices on the road can save not only your life but the lives around you.

The big takeaway NATM Staff had from the conference was that states are working hard to keep our roads safer. Everyone there had a passion to keep communities educated and informed on road safety.

NATM is excited to be a part of this movement to create safer roads, so much so that NATM has joined GHSA as a member. The Association can ensure it is staying up to date on the latest safety efforts while also keeping the trailer industry top of mind when traffic safety is discussed. NATM is looking forward to advocating for the trailer industry and doing its part to help make meaningful changes! NATM cannot wait to share valuable information on trailer safety and create partnerships with those who are road safety focused. ■

Technology Advancements for Trailers, RV’s

A few years back, the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) Technology Committee released an article about the demand for mobile connectivity with the focus being Wi-Fi. Since then, there have been more advancements, products offered and expanded ability to get a Wi-Fi signal. There also have been advancements with Bluetooth. This article is going to discuss both.

Everyone uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on a regular basis at home, work, and in vehicles. That has created not just a want but an expectation for these technologies to be available on and in trailers and RV’s. Consumers want to control functions easier. They want information like tire pressure, holding tank levels, battery monitoring, and they want it all at their fingertips on their mobile device.

Manufacturers need to set expectations with consumers. Although they are all becoming increasingly aware of what they should expect, often the two technologies are assumed to be similar and operate the same. They are different in many ways.

Here is a quick list of some pros and cons to both, but it is clear, more of both is wanted and available.

Wi-Fi - Pros and Cons

1) Pros

› Speed – Using a camera system on a Trailer or RV and viewing it on your smart device.

› Controlling and monitoring other product while away from the Trailer or RV – Air conditioners, batter monitoring, generators, lighting, hydraulics

› GPS Tracking

› Data sharing

2) Cons

› Cost – With Wi-Fi there are some features that require subscriptions such as video monitoring and GPS tracking.

› Wi-Fi signal to operate – Wi-Fi is not always available.

› Latency – there can be a delay in video signal.

Bluetooth – Pros and Cons

1) Pros

› Speed – Using a camera system on a trailer or RV and viewing it on a smart device.

› Cost – No additional cost of subscriptions to operate.

› Ease of use – Pairing to smart devices has become a one step or even automatic process.

› Compatibility – Can connect regardless of manufacturer or operating system.

› Bluetooth is low power.

› Bluetooth has no latency when synced to video.

› Multiple connections – Devices can maintain multiple connections at once.

2) Cons

› Must be within a certain distance of device you are wanting to operate.

› Bluetooth has a hard time going though solid objects.

› Some manufacturers make it difficult to pair.

As mentioned above with Bluetooth, you simply need to pair your smart device to the product, but there are some limitations. With Wi-Fi, there are also some hurdles, but those hurdles continue to get smaller. The primary is a Wi-Fi signal that can be paired with mobile Wi-Fi devices or even using your mobile phone as a hot spot. Like your mobile phone, the Wi-Fi devices can have many of the same issues such as signal strength and losses. Using your mobile phone could have the added cost of using data depending on your plan. Mobile devices from WiFiRanger or King will require a data plan much like your mobile phone.

Looking ahead

Connectivity will continue to advance between smart devices, homes, workspaces and vehicles. All of us desire information, everything from engine diagnostics on vehicles; information from homes, like interior temperature, video, and alarm systems; to getting information and controlling functions on trailers and RV’s. These crossovers will grow and are becoming an expectation.

There are auto manufacturers talking about more ways to make the tow vehicle and trailer or RV one. Meaning, directly

communicating with each other to assist with safety like knowing the trailer weight, tire pressure, anti-lock braking systems monitoring, proximity sensing, cameras to assist in visibility. Also, having the trailer generating power for itself and the tow vehicle. Many of these things can only be done through wired connections but many of these things, due to technology advancements, can be done wirelessly.

What is noticeably clear is that Bluetooth and WiFi technologies use will continue to grow in the trailer and RV industries. Adoptions of features, functions, and desire will vary but not decrease.

The industry will see wants and needs become expectations! ■

The Leader in OEM fenders for Marine Trailer Manufacturers

NATM Webinar Series Recap: Tire Technology and Compliance Best Practices for Trailer Manufacturers

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) recently wrapped up two highly engaging webinars as part of its three-part series on trailer tire technology. These sessions, designed to address pressing concerns for trailer manufacturers, dealers, and suppliers, featured insights from industry experts, practical compliance strategies, and an open discussion of common challenges related to tire identification numbers (TINs) and recordkeeping for trailer compliance.

Webinar 2: Tire Wear, Maintenance, and Aging with Kenda Tires

On Oct. 17, 2024, NATM welcomed Clay Norman, automotive development engineer, and Kim Besst, marketing manager from Kenda Tires, to discuss tire wear, maintenance, and aging. Hosted by NATM Education Director Ginger Baker-Sanhueza, the session covered critical points on extending tire life and optimizing trailer performance.

Norman began by breaking down tire construction and performance factors that directly influence wear and longevity. He emphasized that regular inspection and proper tire maintenance are vital for avoiding premature

wear. Norman also shared detailed guidance on recognizing early signs of tread wear, noting that, “catching these issues early can greatly reduce downtime and increase safety.”

One key highlight was the discussion on tire aging. As Norman explained, environmental factors like UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, and storage practices can affect tire durability. He recommended practical storage tips to extend the life of unused tires, advising attendees to keep tires in cool, dry environments away from direct sunlight.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session where Norman and Besst addressed questions on tire load ratings, inflation practices, and how improper usage impacts tire performance. This session provided attendees with actionable knowledge to improve their maintenance practices and promote customer safety.

Webinar 3: Capturing Tire Identification Numbers, Recordkeeping Best Practices

In the third installment, NATM tackled the regulatory requirements for Tire Identification Numbers (TIN) and best practices for recordkeeping. Led by Baker-Sanhueza, the

panel included NATM Technical Director Scott Crimmins, Murat Gocay of Taskmaster Components, Ricky Virtue of Dispensing Tech, Debbie Blaser from Trailer World of Oregon, and Johnathan Bradley of Liberty Trailers.

The session opened with a brief introduction to TINs — what they are, how to read them, and why they’re crucial for regulatory compliance. Crimmins explained that capturing and maintaining TIN records not only ensures compliance but also provides a safety net in case of a recall. He outlined methods for securely storing TIN data and highlighted the role of tire registration cards as a tool for dealers and manufacturers.

Panelists shared their perspectives on TIN management from different industry angles. Gocay discussed how suppliers can support manufacturers by providing accurate TIN data, while Virtue shared how Dispensing Tech integrates TIN capture into its production processes. Bradley offered insights on Liberty Trailers’ recordkeeping approach, emphasizing that while TIN management can be complex, “don’t let perfect get in the way of being really good.”

Blaser provided the dealer’s viewpoint, detailing the practical steps her team takes to capture TINs when inventory arrives and during final inspections before a sale. Her systematic approach included a checklist and an Excel template for tracking customer data, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded.

The discussion then shifted to common pitfalls, such as misidentifying TINs or omitting them altogether. Crimmins and Gocay addressed questions on best practices for organizing TINs within existing systems, with Gocay sharing his knowledge on using technology during the manufacturing process. Virtue mentioned the value of NHTSA’s “Tire Safety: Everything

Rides on It” pamphlet, which has been useful for educating both staff and customers on the importance of TIN tracking.

The webinar ended with an audience Q&A, where the panelists discussed topics such as tire expiration dates, the process of responding to recalls, and the need for methods that can accurately identify tire brands. These conversations provided a well-rounded look at the intricacies of TIN management and the potential consequences of inadequate tracking.

Key Takeaways from the Series

The NATM webinar series offered valuable guidance on both the technical and regulatory aspects of trailer tires, from understanding tire wear and storage practices to mastering TIN capture and recordkeeping. By leveraging expert insights from both Kenda Tires and a knowledgeable industry panel, NATM provided its members with the knowledge needed to enhance their operations, stay compliant, and improve customer satisfaction.

Both sessions were recorded and are available to NATM Members on the Member Benefits Page of NATM.com, offering a comprehensive resource for anyone looking to strengthen their tire management practices. These webinars highlight NATM’s commitment to supporting trailer manufacturers with practical education that promotes safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across the industry.

If you are interested in hosting a webinar or have a topic that you would like to see covered, please reach out to NATM Education Director Ginger BakerSanhueza at Ginger.BakerSanhueza@natm.com. ■

NATM Connect Gaining Traction

An important part of any association is the opportunity to connect with those who best understand your interests and challenges. One of the new benefits included in the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) Dealer Affiliate Program provides exactly those opportunities.

NATM Connect is an online community forum where Dealer Affiliates can engage in discussion and receive feedback and resources from other professional peers around the trailer industry. The community forum is private and provides a space for authentic discussion that doesn’t include pushy sales pitches or outsiders with unclear motives.

NATM Dealer Affiliates are encouraged to share successes and challenges, bring questions, give constructive feedback, and provide perspective in all manners related to operating and working at a trailer dealership.

The community forum is structured like any other discussion board. Users can post topics and pose questions under industry specific and relevant categories. This includes categories that align with other dealer program benefits, such as sales, parts, and service department operations, leadership development, financial management, office management, and talent and HR management. In addition, users can create categories to really make the forum their own.

“I enjoy the opportunity to connect with fellow dealership owners across the country to have group discussions on various topics,” said Ronnie Enns, an NATM Connect user. “It’s also helpful to be able to look up conversations that other dealers have had about specific topics. And I can send private messages to individuals to have one on one conversations.”

NATM Connect helps you and your business with finding support and getting the chance to collaborate with not only their coworkers but other teams across the country who may have a different solution and point of view. It allows you access to the knowledge and expertise of Dealer Affiliates who have been in the industry for decades and have a great amount of experience. Whether you keep running into supply shortages or just want to try a new product or company for your

business, you can get expert advice from your fellow dealers.

NATM understands that the trailer industry is a tight knit community, and it can be hard to connect with all dealers. This dealer-exclusive online forum allows you and your staff the opportunity to build your network, forming bonds and relationships for both professional and personal growth and development. The new platform can increase staff motivation and engagement as they get the opportunity to connect with others in the industry. Along with increased motivation and engagement, it gives them the chance to learn new skills and tricks from others in the trailer industry across the country. When you and your team have a consistent support system to look to when in need, you are guaranteed to look at problems in a different light as well as find solutions with more ease.

Exciting and productive conversations are already being discussed on NATM Connect! From topics on service department profitability all the way to third party marketing recommendations. Whether you and your business are experiencing a new and unique problem or are in need of some advice for changing things up, your Dealer Affiliate peers are here to assist. You could be brand new to the industry or an experienced dealer, all expertise are encouraged to join the forum and connect!

“Being able to connect instantaneously with other, more experienced dealers that are willing to help share best practices and answer questions I otherwise wouldn’t be able to answer on my own,” said Shane Ehrsam, an NATM Connect user.

NATM is looking forward to the community and networking this benefit is already offering! Dealer Affiliates now have access to NATM Connect and should have received an email on how to access the forum and get started. NATM can’t wait to see all the exciting conversations you start!

Meet the NATM Dealer Committee Members: A Conversation with Denise Scholle

In July 2024, National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) staff members Andrea Boetticher and Izabella Chesney began a new series of interviews to learn more about the members of the 2024-2025 NATM Dealer Committee. The staff is excited to be continuing this exciting series to give the association an inside view of who represents Dealer Affiliates. NATM got the opportunity to speak with Denise Scholle who is the co-owner of The Trailer Guy, LLC, a trailer service business specializing in trailer repair and parts for horse, boat, campers, and landscape trailers. Scholle serves on the 2024-2025 NATM Dealer Committee and she is an integral voice for creating education and resources for service technicians in the industry.

Tell us a little bit about your story.

My connection to the trailer industry began when I met my now husband, Brandon. We were both young, in our twenties, and like most young couples, we wanted to spend all our time together. Brandon had started working on trailers about ten years before that when he was about 18. He had a dream to one day own his own trailer business.

So, we’d spend our time together; he’d be working on a trailer, and I would sit and talk with him. But sitting with him turned into handing him a tool, then assisting him with a brake, and on and on until eventually, I unknowingly took in a huge amount of knowledge and expertise. Never once did it occur to me that his dream of wanting to own our own business meant that we’d literally spend all our time together working as husband and wife, but here we are almost 20 years later.

But it’s only been in the last few years that we transitioned from running the business part-time to really focusing on operating fulltime. We were both still working corporate jobs up until COVID hit, and we decided to take the plunge. I am so happy we did because we love what we do. Many people don’t get the opportunity in their career to really enjoy what they do, and I feel very blessed for that.

What is it like to work with your spouse full-time?

It has its benefits, spending so much time together and we get to travel together when we go places for work. But it has those challenges when you work together, and you’re both

fighting for something that you really believe in. And then you have to go home and have dinner together. We are both strong willed, stubborn people. ‘No’ is not a word we like to hear. So, day to day there is some compromise and give-andtake in it. But we are a great team, and we’ve learned how to work well together because we trust each other. We always have each other’s backs, and we balance each other out well.

Connection to NATM

I have seen over decades now how things have changed, how new manufacturers have come in and out of the industry, and the ones that are still at it for decades. There is no one go-to source for trailer service technicians. We have had to really rely on our decades of experience. I am hopeful that the work we are doing on the NATM Dealer Committee related to service technician resources in the NATM Academy and education will help create a network in the industry to combine all our expertise to help

others that either want to start their own business or are adapting and need to grow their business or dealership.

What is most rewarding about your job?

The most rewarding thing is working with and helping families. As a service-focused company, there have been situations where a family comes in and they’ve broken down, or they’re calling stranded on the side of the road. It makes me feel good, people are genuinely happy that we’re able to fix whatever scenario.

We work with people from all walks of life. And whether they’re bringing in the inexpensive trailer or the really expensive trailer – I mean they could be bringing in the little $5,000 boat or the $500,000

boat, but I want to help them no matter what. I want you to be safe from point A to point B. I don’t need a lot in life. I figure if I can do little things to make people happy every day, that’s enough for me.

What inspired you to join the Dealer Committee?

The one thing in the trailer industry is there’s so much knowledge out there but there’s no one platform for it. I want to help educate people. I want to teach people in a way that makes sense to them, whether that be hands on, or by a book, or whatever it may be, I don’t want it to be one narrative. So, the opportunity to make something better, to make a change and leave an imprint, at least on one person that they can hold on to when they’re in their sixties and they’re telling stories to their grandkids, that’s it.

I just want the opportunity to make it the best we can and inform people. So many people come to us and aren’t sure, or have been given false information about something, and I want them to have the right information so that they stay safe. It’s a much different world, and I want them to have the right information instead of the wrong information. I believe NATM can do that.

The Trailer Guy, LLC has been a member of NATM since 2022. To learn more about them, email thetrailerguy.cincy@gmail.com.

NATM is excited to see all the great things Denise Scholle will be doing on the committee! The Association also is looking forward to sharing more insights with members and Dealer Affiliates on who is representing Dealer Affiliates and assisting in growing the Dealer Affiliate Benefit Program. Keep an eye out for the next conversation with one of the Dealer Committee Members! ■

Partnering Up for Warranty Success

The NATM warranty program continues to gain momentum, and dealers are excited and signing up to take advantage of the opportunity. In the last two editions of Tracks, we focused on members of the Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) warranty team who assisted with the design of the NATM warranty program and manage the all-important claims process. In this edition, we highlight members of the sales support team whose role it is to support NATM trailer dealers with the initial set-up, on-going education and continuous support and maintenance of the warranty program. The key to success for many dealers is the partnership they have with their outside sales consultants who support dealers in every phase of the warranty process.

For the MMA/NATM warranty program to have lasting success, we needed to support dealerships by providing access to sales and support resources who are proven leaders and pioneers in the world of warranty. Dealers don’t need to reinvent the wheel or go it alone; dealers can contact any of the sales support team members highlighted below to begin exploring warranty opportunities for their dealership. Please meet the “bootson-the- ground” sales team that joined MMA at the NATM Convention in Las Vegas to launch the NATM warranty program.

Travis Otto, of Malibu Financial, has spent the last fourteen years working with trailer, RV, powersport, and auto dealerships. Travis is a rising star in the industry. At the age of twenty-four, Travis was already making a name for himself in warranty, where he led a team of 200 agents and supported warranty programs in over 2,000 dealerships nationwide.

In 2020, Travis founded Malibu Financial to provide custom dealer solutions in extended warranties. Today, Travis and his team support warranty programs in more than 200 dealerships throughout the country. They train and support over 300 salespeople in these dealerships with custom extended warranty products and tailored educational programs designed to increase profitability. According to Travis, “Far too often, I see dealerships’ warranty programs fail to flourish because they were not properly trained. I created Malibu Financial to deliver impactful education that allows the salesperson and dealership to improve their bottom line and increase customer satisfaction.”

Travis attributes his success to operating by a simple code: “We are a ‘do what’s right’ kind of company. I think of what I would want if I were in my clients’ shoes and just do that. Everything else seems to just work itself out. It’s crazy how far living by that code will take you.”

As an industry thought leader, Travis authored The Ultimate F&I Playbook for the Trailer Industry and launched an innovative online training course for trailer sales and finance professionals. In his free time, he hosts the podcast “So, What’s Your Goal?”, where he interviews influential figures, including Jillian Michaels and Reebok founder Joe Foster, to delve into themes of personal growth and achievement.

Scott Miller of Safe Harbor Resource Group is a seasoned warranty veteran who grew up in dealerships and has been a pioneer of warranty programs for trailer, RV and powersport dealerships. Scott held roles as an F&I Manager, Sales Manager and General Manager in auto and RV dealerships and knows first-hand the opportunities warranties present. Scott and his team at Safe Harbor Resource Group created the first lifetime warranty products for the RV industry which opened new and important revenue streams for dealerships.

Scott’s team has more than 100 years of combined experience helping dealerships succeed through education and training. According to Scott, “Our success is directly tied to the performance and success of the dealer. We don’t exist without the dealer and so we have invested heavily in training and educational resources to support our dealer partners. We invite the dealer to lean on us, we want them to, and we will support them every step of the way.”

The Safe Harbor team includes consultants, F&I managers, trainers, and administrative staff. The agency has created and delivers online classrooms, F&I academies, and performance coaching, all in support of their more than 300 dealer clients in over 40 states. Scott Miller and the team at Safe Harbor are a full dealer agency backed by cutting edge technology and an unwavering commitment to dealer success.

Travis Otto and Scott Miller work with dealers who have the resources and infrastructure to support a warranty program. These dealerships typically have an F&I department or intend to add an F&I department in the near future. Our next sales partner built their business model for those dealerships that lack an F&I department or are unable to dedicate an employee to lead a dealership warranty program.

Remote Finance Group (RFG) serves as an outsourced warranty and finance department for trailer dealers, and they play a critical role in providing all NATM dealers with access to warranty products. By outsourcing the warranty sales process, dealers don’t have to train and dedicate an employee to the process. RFG provides the warranty and finance specialists who will walk a new trailer owner through the warranty offerings available to them. This is so important, because one-third of customers are conditioned and likely to buy while another third of buyers are open to buying. RFG’s experienced team members make the ask for the dealer and greatly simplify the process.

RFG has over 100 years of experience with warranty and finance and their ownership team was raised in the trailer

world. They are trailer people through and through and provide dealers with access to the additional revenue associated with warranty offerings. RFG joined the MMA team for the roll out of the NATM Warranty Program at the 2024 NATM convention. Since then, they have been signing up trailer dealers at a rapid pace. According to Jay Taylor, CFO and Co-Founder of RFG, “The last year has flown by, and we have been signing up dealers who want to offer warranty products to their customers but lack the human resources or technology to make it happen. The momentum started to build during the 2024 NATM convention and it has only grown as word has spread. In fact, we have had to staff up throughout 2024 to keep pace with the demand.”

While extended warranty programs have been around for more than 70 years, trailer dealers are just now starting to offer warranty and protection products to their customers. For trailer dealers, warranties offer a highly profitable source of revenue and help establish a more loyal customer base. For consumers, warranty products ensure peace of mind and financial protection for their purchase.

Please reach out to Travis, Scott, or RFG through the information provided below and start a discussion on warranty offering for your dealership. ■

As the leader in national towing safety efforts, dealers have long looked to NATM for resources for their customers and their businesses. Over the last decade, NATM has fielded frequent requests to close the gap that exists in the trailer dealer realm regarding reputable education, business resources, and self-governance. As requested, NATM is exponentially expanding its dealer support efforts, for more information turn to Page 36. To foot the bill for these new efforts, the NATM Trailer Expo was created.

Similar to NATM’s annual Convention & Trade Show held in February, which funds Association programming dedicated to trailer manufacturers, the NATM Trailer Expo will utilize the revenue generated from the event to fund dealer-specific programming and benefits. As a not-forprofit association, the profits generated from the Trailer Expo will be reinvested into Dealer Affiliate benefits and industry-wide programming such as Trailer Safety Week, the launch of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit National Trailer Safety Council, the NATM Academy, Dealer Connect network, and more. No other organization in the light- and medium-duty trailer industry utilizes booth sales, sponsorship dollars, and registration revenue to further nationwide trailer safety efforts and launch costly programming to assist trailer dealers.

The primary focus of NATM is directed toward generating benefits for its members and affiliates to further its mission to improve trailer safety. As a not-for-profit, NATM prioritizes the member and affiliate interests over its financial gains as it serves the entire light- and medium-duty trailer industry. The Association operates with a commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial environment for its members and affiliates rather than seeking profits for itself. This approach underscores NATM’s dedication to supporting and advancing the interests of the trailering community, reinforcing a collaborative and safety-driven mindset for all key stakeholders at every level.

Back to Our Roots: Returning to the Beginning

NATM was founded in Chickasha, Oklahoma, in 1987 when five livestock trailer manufacturers unified for better benefits. Nearly 40 years since its inception, NATM is returning to its roots with its first Oklahoma-based event geared specifically for trailer dealers. This event will celebrate the success, growth, and expansion the Association has had over the last four decades leading the industry. Returning “Back to Our Roots” in Oklahoma marks a fresh restart, a full circle, in programming in which NATM launches a new chapter for the trailer industry – this time incorporating trailer dealerships. The launch of The NATM Trailer Expo demonstrates NATM’s understanding of the importance of unifying for the greater good of the trailer industry – just like the five original founding member companies understood back in 1987.

Embracing a collective vision for advancing end-user towing knowledge, NATM is starting a new chapter of collaboration. The trailer industry is stronger together, and this unification is a major step forward in improving towing traffic safety at all levels, as well as supporting the profitability of its members and affiliates.

OKC: Where the Heartland Meets Cutting-Edge Technology

Oklahoma City’s tagline is, “Where the heartland meets cutting-edge technology,” which also is a fitting description of the trailer industry’s rural roots and its future incorporating technology to improve the industry at the manufacturing, sales, and end-user levels. Not only is OKC conveniently located in the heart of the nation, it sits amid the trailer manufacturing industry and lies within a three hours’ drive of Fort Worth, Texas, which has proven an ideal location for NATM’s programming and contributed to record-breaking success for its annual February Convention & Trade Show.

OKC offers an exceptional dining and drinking scene for offsite, after-hours networking with customers. Fine dining and steakhouses, craft breweries, trendy bars, and sophisticated cocktail lounges are scattered throughout the city, offering a vibrant nightlife for attendees to unwind and socialize after a long day at the NATM Trailer Expo. Trailer dealers,

manufacturers, and suppliers alike will have plenty of options to wine and dine their customers during the week of the show.

State-Of-The-Art Convention Center and Omni Host Hotel

The inaugural 2025 NATM Trailer Expo will be held at the Oklahoma City Convention Center, which was completed in 2020. This convention center is a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility that stands as a testament to modernity and innovation. With its top-notch amenities, spacious meeting rooms, and expansive trade show floor, the OKC Convention Center will not only meet needs but exceed the highest of standards.

The Omni Oklahoma City Hotel is the host hotel for the event and is conveniently located directly across from the OKC Convention Center, which will host the event. Completed in 2021, the 17-story hotel offers luxurious guest rooms and dramatic views of the nearby Scissortail Park and the OKC skyline. Additionally, there

is a rooftop hotel pool with downtown city views and excellent onsite dining and bar options. Take time for R&R after a week of working the show floor at Omni’s onsite Mokara Spa.

The Omni Oklahoma City Hotel stands out as a pinnacle of beauty and modernity among the venues at which NATM has previously hosted. Renowned for its luxurious accommodations, and sophisticated design, the Omni offers a truly exceptional experience for attendees. The convenience of the neighboring hotel and exhibit hall locations cannot be beaten.

NATM has negotiated a hotel room block rate of only $230 per night, and the hotel reservation link will be live this winter. Please note, NATM will not authorize any group hotel room services to call you or to solicit your business! These third parties also use the NATM logo in their communications, so please ensure to book with those with emails ending in @natm.com.

Elevating Dealer Success Takes Center Stage in Programming

The NATM Trailer Expo will focus on elevating dealer success in the Educational Sessions. With a nearly four-decade track record, NATM has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to its members by providing exemplary support, valuable resources, and dynamic programming and will continue to offer such at the NATM Trailer Expo.

Understanding the evolving needs of its Dealer Affiliates, NATM conducted a comprehensive survey across the country to gain insights into the specific requirements of dealers. The findings underscore a shared goal among dealers to enhance profitability and elevate the end-user experience and knowledge. These crucial insights gleaned from discussions with dealers will serve as the foundation for the NATM Trailer Expo programming with a focus on elevating dealer success.

In her vast discussions and meetings with dealers, NATM Dealer Programming Specialist Andrea Boetticher has found that these dealerships are small businesses, often family-owned and their main focus is profitability. As a result, the in-person educational lineup will be geared towards increasing the profitability of dealerships. Profitability is not just determined by the sales process, but by overall business practices which NATM plans to assist with. Boetticher also has found that dealers want to meet with their peers, and NATM intends to

create business engagement groups and connect dealers with non-competitors to discuss challenges, solutions, and more.

NATM is soliciting feedback from Dealer Affiliates on what topics they want addressed with the in-person workshop lineup. Support the Industry Through NATM Trailer Expo Sponsorships

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) is headed to Oklahoma City for the inaugural 2025 Trailer Expo taking place Sept. 16-18, 2025, and the Association has several sponsorship opportunities available. Sponsoring the NATM Trailer Expo helps the Association’s effort to improve safety and the goal of unifying the industry.

As the only not-for-profit trade organization in the lightand medium-duty trailer industry, the revenue generated from the NATM Trailer Expo will directly fund the NATM Dealer Affiliate and membership programming and benefits. Additionally, NATM is bringing in dealers to help lead programming with representation on the NATM Board of Directors and Dealer Committee.

Not only does sponsoring provide excellent brand exposure and visibility within the light- and medium-duty trailer manufacturing realm, but it also demonstrates your commitment to the industry. If you are looking to reach the decision-makers in the industry, this is the event to make an impression! What better way to market to dealer attendees than to show your support of NATM by sponsoring an item or event at the Trailer Expo?

The NATM Trailer Expo offers an array of sponsorship opportunities to elevate your brand, including the following sponsorships, which are available:

Sponsorships play a crucial role in strengthening your marketing strategy. They enable you to connect with a specific and engaged audience, contributing essential financial support to facilitate top-notch education, networking opportunities, and trailer exhibitions. Renewing NATM Membership for 2025: A Symbol of Dedication to Trailer Safety

As the only not-for-profit 501(c)(6) association serving the light- and medium-duty trailer industry, the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) stands firmly in its commitment to advancing and unifying the light- and medium-duty trailer industry. For nearly 40 years, NATM has improved the safety of the roadways through its Compliance Verification Program and has facilitated invaluable connections among its members. As the new year has begun, NATM invites you to renew your membership and continue this journey. Renewing your NATM membership is a symbol of your ongoing dedication to the betterment of the industry and the improvement of trailer safety and performance.

NATM has evolved into an association that unites trailer manufacturers, trailer dealers, suppliers, service providers, OEM automotive manufacturers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders from across the nation and abroad. Annual membership dues directly contribute to NATM’s robust portfolio of programming and initiatives to improve trailer safety at multiple levels. This includes the NATM Compliance Verification Program, the newly launching NATM Academy, Trailer Safety Week, publications, and educational programming for our members.

The 2025 membership renewals were sent to main contacts in mid-November, which makes this the perfect time for the Association to reflect on how membership dues are critical in supporting the actions, services, and educational programming that NATM provides for its members and the light- and medium-duty trailer industry. NATM is constantly evaluating costs and benefits to ensure your annual membership investment is met with valuable returns.

In 2024, membership dues allowed NATM to:

› Host the highly successful 2024 NATM Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas, that featured roughly 1,400 attendees and a record number of new exhibitors.

NATM Shifts Tracks Dealer Issue to Coincide with Trailer Expo in Fall

National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) Dealer Affiliates know the March/April issue of Tracks Magazine as the Special Dealer Issue. It is loaded with content tailored specifically for dealers and is mailed out to an additional 5,000 trailer dealerships nationwide.

NATM is shifting when the dealer issue is published. The Tracks Magazine Special Dealer Issue will now be the September/October issue each year. The magazine will bring the same content and the extended reach Dealer Affiliates have come to expect.

This issue shift will allow the Special Dealer Issue to coincide with the NATM Trailer Expo. Manufacturers’ advertising can serve two purposes! You can get your advertising in front of the thousands of additional dealers and showcase that your company is attending the Trailer Expo. If your ad includes your booth number, dealers will know right where to find you.

NATM knows manufacturers and suppliers are busy. To promote your company and your attendance at the Expo as easily as

possible, NATM has created a Trailer Expo advertising bundle! You’ll get two full-page Tracks ads – one in the July/August issue leading up to the event, and one in the September/October, issue which will coincide with and be available at the Trailer Expo. Also included is a spot in the Virtual Swag Bag emails. This interactive PDF is emailed to all registered attendees twice before the Expo. Your ad will be hyperlinked and can lead to a special Expo landing page or your company’s website.

This package is the official NATM channel to get your company and booth number out in front of attendees before the Expo begins! You provide the artwork, and NATM does the rest! Let NATM put in the leg work ahead of the show, so you have a jump start before your future clients even make it to Oklahoma City.

If you’re interested in advertising your NATM Trailer Expo attendance AND reaching thousands of additional dealerships, you can join the Special Dealer Issue Interest List by contacting NATM Tracks Editor Samantha Darling LaCount at Samantha.Darling@natm.com. ■

Hauling Hope: NATM Members Aid Those Affected by Natural Disasters

On Sept. 26, Hurricane Helene made landfall and left behind widespread destruction and fatalities across the Southeastern United States. Then, less than two weeks later on Oct. 9, Hurricane Milton swept across Florida bringing about a tornado outbreak with at least 19 confirmed tornadoes and widespread flooding.

There have been climbing fatality numbers. Millions were without power and entire communities are left wondering how to pick up the pieces. When natural disasters hit like this, it can be hard to see what can be done to help.

Members of the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) have risen to the occasion,

offering their support wherever possible, utilizing their trailers to assist. U-Haul answered the call by providing those affected by the hurricanes with one month of free self-storage.

“U-Haul Companies across the entire Southeast have been working diligently to meet the urgent needs of families impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. These efforts have included offering our disaster relief program, which includes 30 days of free self-storage or U-Box portable container usage, at participating facilities to anyone seeking a dry and secure space for their belongings,” said Marco Garcia, the director of engineering services with U-Haul and NATM President.

Continued on Page 64

Continued from Page 65

“More than 430 U-Haul-owned stores in 10 states offered (and continue to offer) this goodwill gesture before or after Helene,” added Jeff Lockridge, U-Haul manager of media and public relations. “Additionally, this week every U-Haul Company across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina reiterated they will keep the disaster relief program in place for weeks to come to assist Hurricane Milton evacuees, as well as families that need help during the clean-up process after the storm.”

All 14 U-Haul Companies with operations in Florida made their 172 centers available to offer the disaster relief program. This allowed every Floridian 30 days of free storage at any U-Haul center in the state.

“Floridians have to remain vigilant with another powerful hurricane barreling our way, and it’s a stressful time for families looking to stay out of harm’s way,” Mario Martinez,

U-Haul area district vice president for Florida’s southern region, said in a press release. “Finding safety away from the storm and protecting your family comes first. But if we can help by securing a family’s valued possessions in a U-Haul facility during these storms at no cost for one month, we are happy to provide that service to our neighbors.”

A little further north, 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, phones have been ringing off the hook for Lang Specialty Trailers. The company manufactures restroom, shower, and laundry trailers with rugged steel frames, composite walls, and expertly designed plumbing, making them perfect for disaster relief efforts. However, meeting the current high demand that the country is experiencing is quite challenging.

“We were lucky enough to have some of our big shower trailers in stock at the time. Last week, if I would have had 50 shower trailers and 50 laundry trailers, I would have sold them all,” said the Director of Sales and Marketing with Lang, Don Bushey. “We only had five shower trailers

in stock, and they were gone that first Monday.”

Lang Specialty Trailers has ramped up production to meet the continued demand throughout the southeast. The production crews typically work four days a week, but right now they’re working six. With the extent of the damage and how long it’s going to take to recover, Bushey says they’re looking at keeping the extended workdays throughout the end of year at least.

“There’s so much devastation down there,” Bushey said. “There are no water lines. There are no sewer lines, there are no roads. So that is not something that is going to get fixed overnight.”

Samantha Rutkowski, marketing coordinator with Lang Specialty Trailers, sees those affected by the hurricanes and when their trailers are helping them out on social media. While her role isn’t building trailers, she and others in similar roles also play a part in disaster relief.

“Our trailers are so involved in that aspect of relief. That’s really what they’re built for. So we’re keeping a pulse on what’s going on out there. We’re making sure that anything that we do is respectful in terms of marketing efforts

on social media and the content that we’re putting out,” Rutkowski said. “We want to be very respectful towards everyone that was impacted and how they were impacted.”

Lang is going above and beyond to help out those affected. While their stock is limited, they’re helping to connect people in need with trailers, even when it’s not theirs, that can help them.

“I just had someone message us on Instagram. They’re a disaster relief, rental company, not so much looking to buy, but just looking to rent anything that they can get, and that’s where our sales team comes into play – really helping to try to coordinate with other rental companies to get things where they need to go and coordinating that network of rental companies and operators,” Rutkowski said. “So we’ve been really trying to support in that regard as well.”

“It’s not always about selling something,” Bushey added. “It’s about helping people down there.”

MODULAR BUCKING BARS

Kim Crabb: The Heart and Soul Behind Diamond C Trailers

In the early 1980s, Kim Crabb found herself at a crossroads. She was working for a local trailer manufacturer, but by 1984, the company went out of business, leaving its customers without products and its workers without jobs. Faced with this uncertain situation, Kim, who was pregnant with her third child at the time, didn’t just look for a way to survive — she and her husband, Mike, decided to build something of their own. Fueled by their determination and a shared dream, they founded Diamond C Trailers in 1985.

Building from the Ground Up

The company started small but with a big vision, and over the years, it has grown into a family-owned and operated business that now employs over 900 team members. Located in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Diamond C thrives on the foundational principles of “Do Work, Love Strong”—a culture that Kim Crabb has exemplified from day one.

For 39 and a half years, Kim has been the heart of the company, playing an integral role in supporting and nurturing the team. She continues to maintain records of every trailer Diamond C has produced since 1985. Her deep connection to the company’s history allows her to assist customers, law enforcement, and buyers of used trailers with specifications, build records, and licensing — an invaluable service to those who rely on Diamond C’s legacy.

Mentorship and Family Leadership

Kim’s dedication to the business isn’t limited to the office. She has mentored her sons, Jeffery (now CEO) and Jacob (Executive VP of Branding), helping to guide them as they take the helm of the company she and Mike built. Her influence extends to the broader community, where she is deeply involved in service, being an active member at their local church, serving her third term on the Mount Pleasant School Board, and holding various roles at the Mount Pleasant Texas Chamber of Commerce over the years. Her heart for the children and families in Mount Pleasant is evident in everything she does.

Commitment to Community and Service

Within Diamond C, Kim leads by example, balancing compassion with hard work. She’s active in a year-round fundraising board that supports Diamond C team members and their families who face unexpected hardships. No matter how big Diamond C grows, Kim remains grounded, continuing to answer phones, open mail, and handle tasks she’s been doing for almost 40 years.

Recognition and Lasting Impact

Kim’s humility and selflessness are some of her most striking qualities. Despite her immense contributions, she has never sought recognition for her work. “I don’t do any of this and never have for recognition,” she said.

“People will ask for help with an event, and say we’ll put your name out there or do this advertising. I said, I don’t care if my name’s out there or not — I’m happy to help.”

Yet, recognition has found her. In 2016, Kim was awarded the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce’s “Citizen of the Year” for her tireless dedication to the community. And when Diamond C was named a Texas Workforce Commission Large Employer of the Year finalist in 2022, Kim was overwhelmed with gratitude. “It was just so amazing to me, and I was just so excited,” she said.

Those who have worked alongside Kim have nothing but admiration for her resilience and character. “I have watched her be steadfast and persevere for almost 40 years in this industry through good times and hard times,” said Mike Crabb, Co-Founder of Diamond C Trailer Mfg. “Her faith guides her, and she is able to be a light and shining example of positivity and wisdom to others, no matter the circumstances. Her dedication, guidance, and love for the trailer business are one of the huge reasons Diamond C is where we are today.”

Kim Crabb is not only the co-founder of Diamond C; she is its heart. Her unwavering dedication to the business, her family, and the community has shaped Diamond C into what it is today—a company built on love, hard work, and the desire to positively impact the lives of those around her.

Maine Trailer’s Service Department Goes Above and Beyond

As the benefits for the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) Dealer Affiliates grow, so do the marketing campaigns. Call to Service is a campaign where NATM aims to highlight and acknowledge service departments for their vital contribution to the success of trailer dealerships. NATM is excited to launch this campaign and give dealers a chance to showcase their service departments and shine a light on the crew that makes such a difference in their businesses.

NATM is thrilled to highlight Maine Trailer, Inc., whose service department excels in many aspects and thrives on keeping its customers at the forefront of everything they do! NATM got the opportunity to speak with Maine Trailer Marketing Manager Chris Brady and Operations Manager Rick Hathaway and dove deep into what makes their service department so unique!

A little about Maine Trailer, Inc.:

Maine Trailer started in 1985 as a furniture company but quickly grew into much more. The owner realized he had to store and transport furniture, which led him on the path of getting into the storage and trailer business. They realized that to be in the trailer business, they would need a parts and service department

to maintain their trailers, so Maine Trailer, Inc. was born.

The main branch is in Hampden, Maine, but they also have a secondary location in Auburn, Maine. Hampden is their home base, where they do all aspects of their business, and Auburn has more trailer and container sales along with rentals.

Maine Trailer has five pillars to its business: sales, leasing, parts, services, and registration. If it has to do with trailers or containers, they do it and they have you covered in all aspects. They wanted to make it an easy, one-stop shop for their community. Their service department began as a need to keep their trailers going, but it grew to become something that their customers could depend on.

What Makes Their Service Department Stand Out?

What sets them apart is their skill set, says Hathaway. They aren’t afraid to dig into any job and jump at the opportunity to try new things. They recently worked on completing a smokehouse trailer for one of their local fire training institutes. They took a 24-foot enclosed trailer, stripped it down to the bare frame of the trailer, and repaired and rebuilt it to the client’s

needs. Their projects don’t stop there. They also worked with their local power company on a 53-foot step deck with an entire substation on it that they had to work on with a time crunch to ensure the cities that substation serviced had access to power.

They strive to help not only their customers but also their community. Their service team of five employees and the service department manager are all trained in aluminum welding and ready to tackle any job, ultimately making them stand out. From working on trailers to creating offices out of containers, they look forward to a challenge and welcome the change of task.

Most Rewarding Part and Future Goals

Though being ready to take on any job can come with challenges, it also is rewarding. The variety of projects they work on makes every day unique. Along with making their customers happy, they appreciate the gratitude their customers show them, whether it be through a review or a heartfelt email to the owner expressing their appreciation for their service department experience. Being able to share that feedback with the service technicians who work on it is also rewarding, and it ensures that they know that what they do matters.

Brady says he does his best to get pictures of the team while they work on projects. He mentioned that you can see pride on the employees’ faces whenever they are working on a job. It encourages him to take before and after photos so you can really see the difference. It’s very clear that their service department is proud of the work they are doing and enjoys the variety of projects that they take on.

They look forward to the future and the growth that is to come. In addition to working on unique projects, they hope to grow their service team.

What Value Does the Service Department Bring to Maine Trailer, Inc.?

People may not be purchasing their trailers because Maine Trailer has a service department, but when their customers need it, it’s there, and it’s nice to have that peace of mind. The company’s five pillars make it easy for customers to know they are supported every step of the way. The service department adds value to its customers’ experiences and reassures them that if they need anything, Maine Trailer, Inc. has their backs.

Myths vs Facts

Myth: Warranty is always a black eye.

Fact: Maine Trailer strives to make things right if your trailer has problems, even if they are outside the manufacturer’s warranty. Maine Trailer, Inc. will make it right. Though warranty can be complicated, that doesn’t stop them from running with it and keeping trailers on the road!

Myth: Every Service Department is the same.

Fact: Maine Trailer is dedicated to its customers and providing them with the best experiences. Whether you need a job redone or trailer repairs on the side of the road, they are there for you.

ALG Labels + Graphics Celebrates 15 Years of ISO Excellence

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– ALG Labels + Graphics, a leading provider of custom durable label solutions, proudly announces the successful completion of its 15th ISO 9000 audit. This significant milestone reaffirms the company’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a robust quality management system and its dedication to continuous improvement.

A Journey of Excellence

ALG Labels + Graphics’ ISO certification journey began with a pre-audit in 2012, followed by official certification in 2013. Since then, ALG has upheld the rigorous standards required by ISO 9000, a globally recognized quality management system standard that ensures organizations consistently meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

What ISO Certification Means for ALG and Its Clients

ISO 9000 certification provides a solid framework for ALG’s operations, confirming that the company’s quality management system includes essential checks and balances that maintain consistency and excellence.

“ISO certification is more than just a badge of honor— it’s a commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality products,” said Steve Cramer, General Manager at ALG. “Our mantra, ‘Do what you say, say what you do,’ reflects our dedication to upholding these standards.”

For ALG’s clients, this certification means peace of mind. By adhering to ISO standards, the company alleviates the need for clients to conduct their own site audits or quality reviews - ALG’s proactive management ensures that all quality expectations are met and exceeded.

A Smooth ISO Audit

During its recent tri-annual ISO External Surveillance Quality audit, ALG passed without any non-conformances or observations. This comprehensive, three-day audit is far more rigorous than the standard one-day annual review, covering the entire quality management system.

Sally Cramer, Customer Service and Quality Coordinator at ALG, commented, “This accomplishment reflects the collective efforts of our entire team, who consistently adhere to our processes year after year.”

The auditor praised ALG as a “well-oiled machine,” noting the team’s calm confidence and precision in executing their tasks. This positive feedback underscores ALG’s maturity in meeting ISO standards and its commitment

to maintaining high levels of quality and service.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

At the core of ALG’s success is its commitment to continuous improvement. Whether investing in state-of-the-art equipment or making smaller, incremental changes, the company continually seeks to enhance its operations.

Steve Cramer, General Manager at ALG, stated, “Continuous improvement is central to our quality system. Whether investing in new equipment or making simple changes like upgrading restroom fixtures, we are committed to enhancing our operations.”

Recent advancements at ALG include the integration of new systems such as EPMS and Paylocity, which streamline internal processes and enhance employee experience. These initiatives are part of ALG’s broader mission to increase operational efficiency and provide exceptional value to its customers.

Building Customer Confidence

ISO certification plays a critical role in building trust and confidence with clients. In industries like automotive, where quality standards are stringent, ISO certification is often a prerequisite for doing business. For ALG, this certification is a key differentiator that helps maintain longterm client relationships based on trust and reliability.

Looking Ahead

As ALG Labels + Graphics continues to evolve, its focus remains on refining processes and systems. The successful completion of the latest ISO audit not only reaffirms the company’s commitment to quality but also serves as a motivator to push the boundaries of excellence even further.

“We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to our dedicated team and loyal clients,” said Steve Cramer. “We look forward to continuing our journey of excellence and providing exceptional products and services for many more years to come.”

About ALG Labels + Graphics

Founded in Birmingham, Alabama, ALG Labels + Graphics is a premier provider of durable custom labels, graphic solutions, and print systems. The company is dedicated to delivering high-quality products backed by a rigorous quality management system. ALG serves various industries, and is a valuable player in the durable and OEM Market. ■

Welch Backs the Blue with Winning Bid

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – Felling Trailers, Inc. conducted its twelfth annual online auction of an FT-3 drop deck utility trailer to benefit a non-profit organization: Backing the Blue Line. A winning bid of $6,650.00 won the auction that ended the evening of Patriots Day, Sept. 11th. The bid winner is a follower and dedicated supporter of the annual Trailer for a Cause auctions, Joe Welch of Caledonia, MN.

Joe, a construction and farm equipment dealer, has followed Felling Trailers’ Trailer for a Cause auctions for several years and was the bid winner in the 2022 auction that benefited Eagle’s Healing Nest. “I have followed the Trailer for a Cause auctions for about five years. The organizations the auctions benefit are very good ones. The Felling employees have chosen very good causes to support,” said Joe. “Being able to help with this support is very rewarding for me. We need these guys (law enforcement) out there; anyone that has to go to work with a bulletproof vest needs our support and respect.” A few weeks after the auction closed, arrangements were made for Joe to come and pick up his new trailer. It will be used a bit for business and pleasure. “I am very appreciative of the work law enforcement does for us, the sacrifices they make, and the fact that they never know what the next call will bring,” said Welch.

The 2024 Trailer for a Cause FT-3 utility trailer was painted a custom grey with a blue line and the Backing the Blue Line emblem. Suppliers of Felling Trailers had joined in to support Backing the Blue Line by sponsoring the construction of the trailer, from lighting to tires to decking. The 2024 Trailer

for a Cause sponsors are Trans-Texas, PPG, Dexter, Sealco, Peterson, Industrial Wood (Blackwood), Demco, and Pacific Rim. Felling Trailers wants to help generate awareness about the valuable work that Backing the Blue Line does for officers and their families through their various programs and support services. The online auction ran for nine days, from Monday, Sept. 2nd at noon CST through Wednesday, Sept. 11th at noon CST, ending with Joe’s winning bid. One hundred percent of the $6,650 benefited Backing the Blue Line!

Two weeks after Joe had picked up the 2024 Trailer for a Cause, Backing the Blue Lines’ Gretchen Gifford, VP/Executive Board of Directors, accompanied by her husband, Officer Gifford, and son, made the trip to Sauk Centre to accept the donation check. The Giffords met with Felling Trailers’ Owners Brenda Jennissen and Bonnie Radjenovich to present them with the check for $6,650. “There are a lot of great organizations out there. It is truly humbling to be the recipient of your fundraiser this year,” said Gretchen. “It’s been a tough couple of years for the law enforcement community; we’ve had five fallen officers in the last thirteen months. We (Backing the Blue Line) provided blue memorial roses that had been requested for the funeral of an officer who died in the line of duty this past weekend.” “Speaking with a Minnesota National Guardsman and State Law Enforcement officer’s widow, it was evident the significant support Backing the Blue Line provided her and their son. She said BtBL has been there since day one and continues to provide emotional support, cards on holidays, and gifts for their son just to show they care,” said Brenda Jennissen, Felling Trailers CEO/President.

“It’s nice to be remembered. We are blessed and fortunate to be able to support them in a way that is meaningful. We are there for all the moments we can be, providing injury baskets when officers are hurt in the line of duty and sending cards on holidays and important dates. We celebrate the good moments too, onesies for members with new babies and events that allow for the meeting and socializing among wives who live and understand our lives, as well as encourage continued relationships and friendships,” said Gifford.

Forest River, Inc. Mourns the Passing of Founder Pete Liegl, Celebrating His Visionary Leadership and Philanthropy

ELKHART, Ind. — It is with deep sadness that Forest River, Inc. announces the passing of its founder, Peter J. Liegl. Pete not only was a visionary leader who transformed the RV industry, but one of Indiana’s proudest citizens and most generous philanthropists. He is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Lisa L. Rees, son-in-law Logan Rees, and grandchildren Adrienne (6) and Ryan (3) and brother-in-law Gary Chamberlin.

Pete is best known as the founder of Forest River, Inc., and the man who in 2005 sold Forest River to famed investor

Jeff Oelke

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. But his legendary role in building the RV industry into a multibillion-dollar enterprise began from humble beginnings. Sales and management positions brought him valuable experience in production, operations, and customer service. He worked his way to the role of president at Midas Motorhomes and then on to Shasta, a Coachmen-owned company, before deciding to venture out on his own when he co-founded Cobra Industries. Cobra Industries went public and Pete was “fired.” This led him to build his first RV by hand in a barn. Driven to succeed, Liegl brought his first units to Louisville and sold them outside under a lamp post – which was the beginning of “Where the forest meets the river.”

In 1996, Liegl established Forest River, Inc. in Elkhart, Indiana, with the vision of bringing the power of nature to as many Americans as possible. His goal was to create a company that could meet a wide range of consumer needs, and he did just that. Forest River grew rapidly under his leadership, expanding its product range to include not only RVs but also buses, cargo trailers, and marine products. He believed in providing the best product at the best price. His strategic acquisitions and commitment to innovation helped Forest River to become one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America.

His management philosophy emphasized empowering employees, fostering a culture of accountability, and always focusing on the needs of the consumer. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously,” he said recently. “But we’re very serious about what we do.”

In 2024, despite announcing a succession plan for the company, Pete Liegl remained at the helm of what he called “the quiet company,” working every day – including Saturdays and Sundays – while presiding over a slate of internal innovations and investments that will provide the foundation for growth and excellence for years to come.

Pete, to anyone that knew him for more than a minute, found meaning and inspiration from his namesake, the Apostle Peter. Peter’s story inspired transformation, and Pete’s journey inspired many, while highlighting themes of redemption, leadership, and unwavering commitment to one’s beliefs.

Pete was very proud of his roots in Elkhart, and privately made generous philanthropic contributions, supporting

causes in education, healthcare, conservation and local communities. In the end, it is his determined strength of character, booming laugh and a twinkle in the eye that will leave a lasting impact on those who knew him best.
