This publication is about giving visibility to war testimonies written by Ukrainians, mainly by women. It is about their views of the war, their feelings, fears, hopes and confidences. I, and particularly, THE AUTHORS, thank you for this opportunity to be visible, and to be read. ДЯКУЮ ВАМ ВСІМ.
THE PROJECT « LETTERS FROM
At the beginning of the war, many of my Ukrainian friends and colleagues needed to write down what they had witnessed of this war and to express their feelings. Many of them started keeping diaries, writing a lot on social networks, and sharing with their friends their fears and expectations.
I have been overwhelmed by these letters,so I have decided to share them with my foreign audience. This is how this project was born: to give Ukrainians an opportunity to express their views, concerns and fears.
While discussing the letters with the organizers, I decided not to use the politically correct filter. We are safe here, in Switzerland. But those in Ukraine are not safe. This is about their perspectives on the war. We should understand it and give them an opportunity to voice their concerns, as they are: uncensored and unsorted.

LETTERS FROM UKRAINE Проект "Листи з України" є променем надії українців, які постраждали від російської збройної агресії. Надії отриматизахистідопомогу,надіїповернутисобімирне життя, надії, що такий жах ніколи не повториться з жоднимнародомнашоїпланети! Я щиро дякую Наталі Борис та іншим колегам за реалізацію цього Проєкту! Вірю, що війна закінчиться скоро і українці знову зможуть хизуватися своєю гостинністю, ділитися життєрадістю і теплом своїхсердець! Щодня в Україні гинуть від обстрілів та бомбардувань сотні мешканців, включаючи літніх людей, жінок та дітей.Російськівійськастираютьзлицяземліукраїнські міста,знищуютькультурнуспадщинунашогонароду. Після завершення Другої Світової війни пройшло понад 75 років... Cette exposition à l’Université de Fribourg nous interpelle toutes et tous, comme autant de témoignages de la réalité de cette guerre absurde dont nous font part des Ukrainiennes et Ukrainiens, jusqu’ici en Suisse, à la fois si loin et si proche de la guerre en cours

Pourquoi montrer cette exposition à l’Université de Fribourg ?
D’abord parce que l’UNIFR s’est rapidement affirmée solidaire des victimes ukrainiennes du conflit, a condamné l’agression militaire et la guerre menées par la Russie et son régime dirigeant en particulier Ensuite parce que nous sommes depuis peu en contact avec plusieurs chercheur.e.s, enseignant.e.s d’Ukraine qui ont été accueillis ici à l’UNIFR dans différents départements, et qui ont contribué aussi à réaliser « Lettres d’Ukraine » , comme Antonina Skydanova.
Ces lettres résonnent fortement pour nous aujourd’hui. Elles représentent des témoignages qui nous touchent toutes et tous, si loin de nos réalités vécues en Suisse, si proches par l’ampleur d’un conflit qui menace l’Europe dont nous faisons partie. Les lettres d’Ukraine appellent notre solidarité.

LETTERS FROM UKRAINE Я прокинувся вранці 24 лютого і бувшокований… Я не можу сказати, що я був здивований, я був шокований тим, як масово Росія атакувала волелюбну Україну. Повномасштабне вторгнення в Україну нагадало мені січень 1991 року...Саме в цей час радянські війська напали на мою батьківщину, Литву, саме тоді радянські танки чавили мирних людей. Страшний час і сумні спогади повернулися до мене 24 лютого. День, який змінив історію мого регіону. День, який змусив моє серце битися швидше. Япрацювавврізнихзонахконфліктівіможучесно сказати, що я не дуже чутливий до конфліктів і їх наслідків. Але Україна...Вона для мене має особливезначення. Слава Україні! ГРАЖВІДАС ЯСУТІС

Walking in the woods is now a privilege, like many other « leisure activities », even free ones. Even food is not available for everyone, and some in Ukraine don't have drinking water right now. Would you advise Mariupol ’ s inhabitants to have a walk in the woods? Would you advise Ukrainians to meditate to cool music? Think twice before you give us such advice.
Dear friends, Right now I am touring European Prides. But for some reason, they are like fake Christmas trees: they look real, but they don’t put me in any mood to celebrate… I carry occupied Kherson in my heart, the cancelled Queer forum there, and it makes me feel empty, hollow. But I am one of the lucky ones: I left with my family. And I'm even starting to find some new goals and meanings... But this question “why?” makes me numb. It's the hardest thing right now.
