2016 is going to be a monumental year for the Napa County Library system.

Director of Library Services and Community Outreach

Danis Kreimeier

Celebrating a birthday is not enough. We are taking this opportunity to move our library forward in a number of ways to better serve you. Here are just a few of the changes you’ll see in the first quarter of the year: • We’re moving to a new online catalog. Searching for items of interest will be easier than ever. and not just for books and DVDs. We’ll be integrating a number of our databases, our calendar entries and many more things into our catalog to help you make the most of the library’s collection – and beyond. • Expanding your access to millions of items. We’ve always offered Interlibrary Loan. However, when we move to our new catalog, we’ll also be incorporating the holdings of dozens of Bay Area libraries, including academic libraries. This means faster access to millions of new items. • Calistoga’s remodel will be completed. We’re so excited to see this project in full swing. Expect an opening in March with a completely new interior, and lots of new materials. • All our libraries will have highspeed internet access. Each of the Napa County Library’s internet connections will be upgraded to 1 gigabyte per second. This is 10 times faster than we’re currently running and nearly 100 (one hundred!) times faster than the average home connection. We don’t want to give away all our 2016 projects. Please stay tuned. We have a lot more exciting things in the works. We’re just getting started.

Here’s to the next 100 years!

To start things off, it’s our 100th anniversary. We’ve been a county library for a full century now. The date was February 9, 1916. You can expect lots of special events, starting with a bang on Tuesday, February 9 with a birthday party commemorating our centennial with speakers, live music and games. Calling all Napa County Library lovers! Do you have stories, pictures, or memories that you want to share about the library? We will be compiling and editing your entries to create a one of a kind Centennial book. Please direct all submissions and questions to the Reference Desk or call (707)253-4235.

Janice Peterson’s visual awareness and desire to express them started with designing logos and business cards as a graphic artist in her father’s print shop. She has had exhibitions of her work in Northern California.
