Water crisis hits Walvis Bay Get Ready state hospital * * * *

Eileen van der Schyff The Walvis Bay state hospital is in peril once more. The hospital ran out of water this week and the situation deteriorated as toilets became filthy and unhygienic and there are reports from members of the public that there was no water to wash new born babies. This crisis follows less than a month after a severe food crisis hit all four state hospitals in Erongo, prompting the public, the business community and the regional government to donate food

items and bringing into being a crisis food bank. [The food crisis is still ongoing.] A woman phoned namib times yesterday and complained the hospital has been without water for five days. The newspaper took

Two property owners suffered damages on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning in two separate incidents in which reckless drivers made accidents. In the first incident after 23:00 on Wednesday the driver of a white pick-up approached the intersection where Union Street connects into 5th Road at high speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and drove over the pavement, damaging public infrastructure at the Walvis Bay Adventure Centre. The driver drove off, making him or herself guilty of not only reckless and or negligent driving, but also failing to ascertain whether there were injuries or damage before leaving the scene of the accident.

TransNamib head office on their list of demands. The workers plan to register a strike with the Ministry of Labour should the reply not be favourable. On Tuesday already, TransNamib's Chief Executive Officer Mr. Johny Smith, in a memorandum, informed workers their industrial action is illegal and those who do not report for work face disciplinary procedures, including summary dismissal if they stay away from work for more than four consecutive days. Workers were also warned not to intimidate non-striking workers, that a no work no pay arrangement stays in place and that no gathering of workers to take place without the company's permission. Smith in his memorandum urged workers to return to their work duties so that a collective effort can continue to improve the state of affairs at TransNamib. It is no secret that TransNamib is one of the most inefficient, uneconomic and cash gobbling semi-state institution in Namibia. Something Smith is determined to turn around and make the national rail carrier the pride of the country. “I would like to once again appeal to each and every one of us to keep a keen eye on only delivering on our brand promise. Do not feel victim to empty promises of the misinformed or the mischievous. Come to work with due diligence and dedication. Deliver on your tasks and I promise you a rewarding work experience. Let us use this opportunity to learn and grow and to never repeat the same mistakes again”, Smith appealed to workers.

Walvis streets Continued from page 1 Residents in the immediate area yesterday morning expressed their deep concern over the traffic safety where Union Street and 5th Road connects in the form of a sharp bend. Two lives have been lost in a crash there some years ago and in no less than three occasions did vehicles crash into the Walvis Bay Adventure Centre, causing damage of several tens of thousands of Namibian Dollar already. An adjacent house owner also complained of losses he suffered so far when vehicles crashed into his boundary wall. “We really need the Walvis Bay traffic department to re-assess the situation. We don't want to act too late when more lives are lost, people injured or our properties destroyed”, said the house owner. In a second incident early on Thursday morning a vehicle came down 6th Road in the direction of 5th Street. The driver did not realise 6th Road and 5th Street connect as a T-junction. The driver crashed through the outer perimeter fence of the Botswana Dry Port. At the time of going to press the municipal traffic authority was hot on the heels of the driver of the white pick-up. He faces several charges and will also have to pay for the damages caused to infrastructure.

Dr Shaker said it was only for one day (Wednesday) and that the situation returned to normal. After the telephonic conversation with Dr Shaker, patients said there was still no water. Taps and toilets were dry and the situation was highly unhygienic. Pictures were taken (after the call to Dr Shaker) showing toilets in extremely unhygienic conditions. The woman also alleges staff had to use water hoses connected to the fire hydrants to clean the toilets. With nearly an hour after the phone call to Dr Shaker there was still no water. It was then discovered after the pipe was repaired, someone forgot to open the main water supply tap. Once that was done, a second pipe rupture caused another water disruption. “New born babies can't be bathed, the toilets can't be flushed and the hospital cannot be cleaned. Water spray bottles are being used for sanitation”, the distressed woman told the namib times. ·At 14:30 yesterday a patient reported that the taps were still dry and the toilets were not functioning.

Get ready for the festive season Mayor urges stakeholders in Walvis Bay to prepare in time Floris Steenkamp Walvis Bay's mayor Alderman Immanuel Wilfried on Tuesday night called upon all stakeholders, whether individuals, the private sector or the municipality of Walvis Bay, to step up their various preparations for the Christmas holidays, as he once again wants visitors and holiday makers to enjoy the harbour town as a clean, safe and service-efficient holiday destination. He made this request at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday night. The mayor called upon all stakeholders to find ways to deal with the influx of people more efficiently in order for them to feel at home and enjoy the advantages of the ocean and the desert. The annual festive holiday season is a time when the coastal economies receive a muchwelcomed economic injection, but the influx of thousands of people can also be challenging. Road accidents, the delivery of water- and sewerage services and criminals targeting visitors are some of the challenges that often repeat themselves during every festive holiday season. “The prospect of dealing with so many visitors during such a short period can be a bit challenging at times, and for some it can be very stressful. Be that as it may, I think we should find ways of dealing the influx more effectively. As starters, I think we are truly blessed and privileged to be living in a coastal region that is considered one of the world's most attractive and exceptional, almost in an outlandish sort of way”, the mayor explained.

Adding foreigners have Namibia on their map and Namibians find the coast the best possible escape from the interior's relentless heat. “I therefore urge our administrators to get cracking with the annual contingency plans to ensure that we improve upon our service of previous years. We should all look forward to our visitors experiencing a pleasant time in and around Walvis Bay”, said Alderman Wilfried. Individuals can do their part too in making Walvis Bay the desired holiday destination: people can be vigilant against crime and report possible criminal activities to the nearest police or neighbourhood watch formations. People can also assist in keeping Walvis Bay clean at all times and not wait for the weekly dump truck to make its round or the quarterly Team Up to Clean Up campaigns. “Our efforts in this regard (to make it pleasant for visitors) would be greatly enhanced if we were to operate in a clean environment too. It goes without saying that we all need to observe the general rules of cleanliness, wherever we are”, said Alderman Wilfried. Adding it is his dream to make Walvis Bay the cleanest city in Africa.

Mayor Wilfried interviewed by the national broadcaster NBC at the recent public clean up. Other picture: Walvis Bay is a popular holiday spot for overseas tourists, SADC tourists and Namibians alike.

Family of girl who was raped at 10-years-old still seeks justice after 7 years Sharlien Tjambari

The justice system continues to fail us The mother and family members of a girl who was raped in 2011 when she was 10-yearsold, still seeks justice for their child. On Tuesday, the family went to the Swakopmund Magistrate Court to hand in a petition opposing the granting of bail to the alleged suspect, Immanuel Nowaseb (36). The mother, whose name cannot be mentioned, said she feels that the justice system has failed her daughter, because it seems like the suspect has more rights. “This man has been delaying this case, and has come a long way and it is very unreasonable that a case such as this continuously gets postponed, just for bail application”, said the concerned mother. She further added that her child still gets emotional every time the case appears in court and that she already testified. The mother handed over the petition to the Public Prosecutor, Faith Nyaungwa in front of the Swakopmund Magistrate court. “We are worried that our girls are not safe in our society due to the evil that is happening as they fall prey and become victims of rape and murder. We humbly request that the honourable court takes cognizance of the fact that this accused had for a while absconded from custody, thus he remains a flight risk”. The petition further reads: “It is clear that the accused person plays delay tactics in finalising the matter. He always gets his way. Why is justice being delayed in this matter, is the rights of an accused person more superior to the right of freedom of a victim”. Nowaseb was arrested in 2011 in Swakopmund for allegedly raping the 10-year-old girl. It is alleged that he called the 10-year-old girl to meet him at Hero Bar in order to give her money which he owed her mother. The

victim went to the agreed place with her younger brother and upon arrival he took the two children to his shack which is opposite the bar. Nowaseb allegedly instructed the girl to undress and threatened her with a toy-gun. He raped her in front of her brother. He has been in custody since his arrest. To date, Nowaseb has pleaded not guilty to the rape charge and the bail hearing has been postponed since 2012 because every time Nowaseb goes to court he changes lawyers. According to sources Nowaseb now has the eighth lawyer. The bail application hearing was supposed to take place on 25 September, but his new private lawyer did not show up. The lawyer who will be representing him informed the state on Monday afternoon that it was short notice and that the case needs to be postponed. A new magistrate, John Sindano was also appointed on Tuesday and he will preside over the latest bail application. The bail application hearing was postponed to 7 November, and the trial is set for 15 and 16 November this year in the Regional Court. Nowaseb remains in custody and is being detained in Windhoek because of his pending cases. Nowaseb also have pending cases of theft and fraud in Okahandja, Windhoek and Gibeon, which he committed between 2017 and 2018 while in custody.

My visit to Namibia this week is focused on conservation. This is an issue very close to my heart, and I know is a matter of deep pride to you all as well. Your country is famous for its beautiful environment and wildlife. This is the reason why so many tourists, including tens of thousands of Brits, visit every year. Tourism continues to grow year on year and in 2017 accounted for 100,000 jobs – with the poten-

tial to add many more. Protecting Namibia's wildlife is crucial to realising this potential. I have been very lucky to see first-hand today in the Kunene region some outstanding conservation work. This is being undertaken with the support of the charity Tusk, of which I am patron, by both Save The Rhino Trust Namibia and IRDNC. I was staggered by the beauty and sheer remoteness of this incredible landscape. And I was humbled by the dedication of the rangers who protect the unique population of desert rhino from poachers. It was particularly inspiring to hear directly from community leaders about the establishment of a People's Park with some of the conservancies in Kunene. Initiatives such as this are crucial as they ensure that communities benefit from protecting their natural heritage and seek to reduce conflict between humans and wildlife. I am impressed also by how local communities, the Ministry of Environment, and NGOs are pulling together in Kunene to keep rhinos safe. It is a model that I hope others can follow, both

here in Namibia and across the continent. If I'd had more time, I would also have loved to have visited Etosha National Park. United for Wildlife, of which I am President, is supporting Save the Rhino International to use innovative technology to reduce the threat of poaching in Etosha. It's another reason why I'll just have to come back again. Despite all the valiant efforts of so many across Southern Africa, there are places where levels of poaching remain unsustainably high. The latest figures show that a rhino is killed every seven hours. The Illegal Wildlife Trade is an international problem that requires determined political leadership. The species, geographies and drivers of the illegal trade are many and varied, and our

approach to tackling it must be tailored. Whatever approach we take, it must be based on evidence of what works on the ground with local communities. This is why I wanted to come to Namibia – to listen and learn. It is also why Namibia's voice and constructive engagement on these difficult subjects at the upcoming conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade in London in October is so important. I am delighted that President Geingob will be attending and I look forward to welcoming him to London again in a few weeks' time. Thank you again for your warm welcome. It has been fascinating to meet people from so many different walks of Namibian life doing such important work. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

5-month old baby needs your help Sharlien Tjambari

The Deputy Mayor of Swakopmund Maria Elago plays a bigger role in the community by helping those in need. This week she donated some diapers and formula milk to a family that struggles to feed and clothe a fivemonth old baby. During an interview with namib times, Elago said the only reason why she approached the paper is because the baby needs more than what she can give and urges anyone who is able to help in any form to approach her. “A friend of mine who works at the DRC Clinic, Louisa Kativa informed me about this family that struggles because she knows that I have a heart for helping people, so I visited the Shindinge family and have been helping them with formula milk and nappies since my first visit”. Julia Shindinge, a domestic worker and only bread winner in her house welcomed a new member to her family earlier this year; a handsome baby boy. Although she struggles to feed and clothe her grandchildren who are all under 10-years, she took in one more child. Wiseman Pandulo Palyohamba Shindinge was born on 14 April this year; his mother and he were discharged on 17 April from the hospital. That same night tragedy swept their home. The shack in which they lived was flooded resulting in the death of little Wiseman's mother and sister. Wiseman was rescued by his father from the riverbed and was a lucky survivor. “After I heard about the tragic incident, I went to Windhoek for the funeral because Pandulo's father is my brother, the family decided I should take the child because my brother was not capable of raising a baby on his own since he is unemployed. I didn't hesitate to say yes, he was such a handsome baby. At that moment I was not thinking about how I would feed this baby”, said Julia Shin-dinge. Upon her arrival in Swakopmund, she heard about the Vanessa Day Care non-profit organisation which helps vulnerable children and orphans in Swakopmund. The owner and founder of the Day Care centre, Louisa Kativa connected her with the Deputy Mayor. “This is my baby and I don't plan on giving him away, all I need is some second-hand clothes because Pandulo has grown out of his clothes

or any help possible”, said Julia Shindinge who leaves in a small two-bedroom house and has more than seven mouths to feed. Kativa said her centre helps the community with daily necessities and depends on sponsors. Anyone who is willing to help the Shindinge family can reach them through Kativa at 0813738872.

Adonai Trust reaches out to inmates

Hero Once in a while you get those rare occasions where you become a hero or heroine to someone. Johanna Theofelius recently wasted no time when she spotted something out of the ordinary floating in the channel off the port of Walvis Bay. Johanna is a crew member of the pilot boat Seagull. When she spotted this object floating she alerted the wheelman and other crew members. Upon closer inspection they instantly knew there was something seriously wrong. The object turned out to be a capsized canoe and the person on the canoe was trapped under it, having difficulty to get the canoe upright again and in doing so save himself from drowning. Johanna instinctively threw a life buoy at the struggling man and they managed to pull him from the water. The water was very cold, the stream was strong and the wind was blowing. Had they not spotted the man and the capsized canoe he would have perished within minutes from either drowning or hypothermia. Speaking to Namport's heroine, Johanna said in her eight years at Namport she never had a dull day and the recent incident was extraordinary. “We have been trained to save lives at sea and it is an immense joy to know that I could make a difference in that man's life recently”, she explained. Adding: “I could not leave a fellow human being floating in the ocean in the name of executing my duties.” Speaking to the grateful wife of the survivor, Ms Cicka Smith, she only had words of deep thankfulness. She

could not hide her joy in what Johan-na Theofelius did and whose bravery and decisive actions saved her husband's life. Not only did the crew of Seagull rescued Mr Desmond Howard, but also safely retrieved the canoe. “Thank you so much Johanna. I was extra thrilled when I learnt that it was a fellow-woman who played a critical role in ensuring the safety of my husband. Namport should really take special notice of this rescue”, said Mrs Howard. It was understood Mr Howard was saved a mere 5 minutes after his canoe capsized and his fight for life against the mighty Atlantic started. He said in the aftermath: “Had there been any delay, I would have died as a result of hyperthermia as the water is very cold. I really want to say thank you so much to this team and more so to the vigilant Ms Johanna. Bank Windhoek and Adonai Trust have joined hands to host Money Map training sessions for close to 200 inmates at four correctional facilities across the country. The first two-week session commenced at Walvis Bay on Monday, 17 September and will conclude on Sunday, 30 September. Themed 'Your journey to financial freedom,' the Money Map training covers a variety of topics that will educate the inmates on financial, spiritual and mental fitness as they serve their sentences and beyond. Its main purpose is to guide individual inmates to achieve a biblical, joyful and stress-free financial future. Adonai Trust's co-founder, Sanet Vermeulen, briefly expanded on the initiative and its history. “Crown Money Map was a team effort of like-minded individuals who are passionate about seeing the millions of subsistence farmers and entrepreneurs in Africa are becoming financially free. It is based on the Money Map created by Crown Financial Ministries. In this version, the timeless principles of God's word concerning money can now resonate in the heart of the African farmer, entrepreneur, and parent. Although presented in an African setting, it can be used worldwide. This Money Map's clear financial goals are inspiring and the reality of the obstacles to reach them is challenging but attainable,” she said. After the first session, three more seminars are scheduled to take place at the following correctional facilities: · Divundu: Monday, 15 until Sunday, 21 October. · Elizabeth Nempembe: Monday, 22 until Sunday, 28 October. · Keetmanshoop: Monday, 12 until Sunday, 18 November. Bank Windhoek's Sponsorship and Events Coordinator, Suzette January, said that the Bank is delighted to have supported Adonai Trust with this initiative. “Participating inmates should grasp this opportunity and learn as much as they can during the sessions. We wish them the best for the future,” she said. Adonai, Hebrew meaning for 'God Is My Lord', aims to educate nations to live the character of Christ by applying biblical principles, conduct business, career and financial matters faithfully and with integrity. “The content of the Money Map is life-changing, especially when inmates implement it in their own lives, it is about more than just financial principles,” concluded Vermeulen.

Press Release:

First Ever Payment from the Wildlife Credits Scheme

On Friday, 14th September, farmers' in Tsiseb Conservancy who had recently lost livestock due to lions gathered at the Brandberg White Lady Lodge. The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the new Wildlife Credits Scheme, whereby tourist sightings of lions and elephants are used to generate funds for the exclusive purpose of mitigating human wildlife conflict. In Tsiseb Conservancy, these funds are generated through tourists going on game drives at the Brandberg White Lady Lodge, and matched with funding from the Namibian Association of CBNRM Support Organisations (NACSO).

Due to the recent spate of lion attacks on livestock in this area, Tsiseb Conservancy and Brandberg White Lady Lodge, along with the Daure Daman Traditional Authority, and the Daures Farmers' Association, decided to use the first funds from the Wildlife Credit Scheme to pay out cash compensation to farmers as a contribution to offset their losses. The Chairman of Tsiseb Conservancy, Rev Zebedeus /Uiseb clarified that,“the Scheme is aimed at human-wildlife conflict mitigation through payment of compensation for

livestock, injury to human life, and damage to crops and infrastructure due to lions and/or elephants”. The Conservancy Chairman further stated that, “the Wildife Credit Scheme must not be confused with the Government's Human Wildlife Conflict Self Reliance Scheme (HWSRS); our Scheme is totally independent and also caters for other benefits which are not included in the HWSRS”. In particular, Rev /Uiseb emphasised that the funds for the Wildlife Credit Scheme are directly linked

with income from tourists coming to see lions and elephants. He therefore condemned the recent attack on tourists travelling between Spitzkoppe and Uis in the strongest possible terms, especially since the tangible benefits of tourism could be seen in the Wildlife Credits Scheme. Representing the Daures Farmers' Union, the Chairman, Mr Issakar Kamendu, made a few remarks: “As a farmer, you must have a brand number to be able to identify

your animal, especially when it is killed by a predator or dies due to drought,” he further emphasised, “farmers should be looking after their animals using kraals and herders”. Mr Kamendu noted that when the conservancy was first established, the farming community thought only of the game species like ostrich, springbok, and kudu that would increase in the area and provide benefits. They did not think about the lions or elephants that would increase and cause livestock losses and other problems. Nonetheless, he called on the farmers to support the Conservancy, as tourism due to animals like lions and elephants has the potential to generate jobs and income, even if the national economy is declining. A representative from the Daure Daman Traditional Authority, Councillor Jacqueline /Awases, made a few comments on behalf of the chief, who was attending a meeting in Windhoek. “I understand that the money provided today for the losses is not enough, and that the farmers have suffered; however, with these funds we are able to at least meet the farmers half way”. She further expressed her gratitude to the Conservancy and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET): “The information received from these parties was used to determine what livestock were lost, and to make sure the right farmers will receive a payout today.” On behalf of the Traditional Authority, she pledged continued support for the Con-

servancy regarding humanwildlife conflict. During the process of handing out payments to the farmers, the manager of Tsiseb Conservancy, Mr EricXaweb, made a few comments. “Our decision regarding which farmers would be paid out was based on good evidence of lion predation collected by the Conservancy Game Guards, MET representatives, and Dr Philip Stander. The total losses suffered since September 2017 until recently amount to 35 goats, 3 cows, and 5 donkeys.” He further announced plans to collect accurate numbers of livestock owned in the conservancy, and to build a predatorproof kraals in the area: “We will engage with the farmers to find out where to put these kraals, and to create awareness about how to protect their

livestock from predators in future.” All of the representatives expressed their deep gratitude towards the parties who made this Wildlife Credit Scheme possible. In particular, they praised the Namibia Nature Foundation for facilitating the establishment of the Scheme, NACSO and the Brandberg White Lady Lodge for partnering with the Tsiseb Conservancy to generate the Wildlife Credit funds. The Conservancy representatives emphasised that these payouts had been just the start of the benefits that would come from the Wildlife Credits Scheme. Tsiseb Conservancy would work together with the farmers to use these funds wisely in the future, to help farmers coexist with lions and elephants.

Finance for 5, 78 MW Solar Plant Bank Windhoek, in conjunction with Enertronica Group, recently financed the construction of the Trekkopje Solar Project, in the Erongo region as part of the development of solar parks in Namibia. Built by Enertronica Group, a multinational industrial company specialising in renewable energy, the project incurred construction costs of N$137 million, excluding development costs. The Trekkopje's Solar Project construction was completed and operational in August 2018. The site was chosen for its potential to supply power for industrial, farming and storage purposes without posing a threat to the environment and its community. The project has a life span of 25 years which is anticipated to be even longer after it is revamped. Although the output from the plant is dedicated to feeding into the NamPower grid, Enertronica Group has committed to building three smaller solar technology facilities to serve schools of the surrounding communities. In terms of job creation, 30 community members were employed during construction. Once completed, an average of five people is permanently employed to ensure the proper maintenance of the plant. “The project has a combined output of 5, 78 Megawatts. But we expect it to be a bit higher because of the high performance of the technology adopted for this specific plant. This is the first plant where Enertronica Group's patented trackers are mounted on the structures which means that the modules will follow the sun during the day optimizing the already high irradiation,” said Dr Maurizio Decinti, lead consultant to the project. “Getting to know Bank Windhoek during this process has been an exciting experience. Together we have laid the foundation for a long lasting relationship and hope to get more opportunities to implement similar transactions of this nature in the country,” said Decinti. Decinti concluded that the future is in renewable energy. “This is even truer today when the cost of renewable is basically similar to the traditional energy, we have basically achieved the so called 'Green Parity',” he said. “We recognise that optimising renewable energy opportunities is critical for the development of Namibia and as such, we fully embraced the opportunity to finance these projects. Together with partnerships such as this one, we can make an impact and prove that things can be done in cleaner and environmentally friendly ways,” said Lukas Nanyemba, Executive Officer for Corporate and Institutional Banking at Bank Windhoek.

Fun in the sun at St George’s Clash of the Titans

at NVF Cup final

The second and final round of the 2018 Bank Windhoek Namibia Volleyball Federation's (NVF) Cup, will take place on Saturday, 29 and Sunday, 30 September. The two-day sporting event will be held at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) and University of Namibia's Main Campus in Windhoek.

On Saturday, 15 September 2018, 127 archers from 15 schools/clubs from all over Namibia gathered on the St George's Diocesan sports field to compete against one another in the 3rd NASP Nationals. The top 16 archers (8 junior and 8 senior) from every school/club shot 3 Bull's Eye rounds and 2 3D/2D rounds. The competition started with registration at 7:00, bearing in mind that some archers only left for Windhoek in the early hours of the morning due to other academic responsibilities at school still. At 08:00 the first arrows started flying. The range had been lovingly set up the day before on the grass. Parents were happily ensconced on the pavilion under gazebos and the existing shade netting. The tuck-shop was in high demand for coffee and water, keeping the tummies filled and stamina at its peak! It was a hot summer's day and lucky for the archers the wind stayed away. At about 13:30 the animals (baboons, bears and wild pigs) were brought to the forefront and 2D animals' targets with zebra, kudu and wildebeest replaced the target faces. Archers helped set up with great gusto and the shooting commenced. After a little "panic" in the office, the prize giving was held shortly after the last arrows were shot and the two multi –coloured bows for the Cham-

pion Boy and Girl found their new owners. Many beautiful certificates and trophies were also handed out. A huge thank you to the NASP® Namibia Committee for organising this prestigious event, Afro Pumps and its employees for setting up and taking down the range and St George's for making their facilities available. Butt Archery Suppliers for the Targets and Impact Web Studios for all the Medal Stickers and Certificates. The parents of the archers, who make this sport possible, for driving the archers all over the country and buying and maintaining the equipment, deserves special thanks as well as our archers, who spend many hours practising in the sun, for their commitment and diligence. It all pays off in the end lives are changed one arrow at a time. The next competition will be held in Mariental on 6th October. The new committee for the year 2018-2019 are R. Woortman (Chairman), D. Louw (Vice Chairman), K. Marais (Secretary), C. Els (Treasurer), A. Park (Central), L. Human (East), J. De Jager (West), B. Roberts (South) and P. Weakley (North)

Field Hockey Premier League moves up a gear The fourth round of Bank Windhoek's National Field Hockey Premier League took place this past weekend in Windhoek. As it stands, Windhoek Old Boys (WOBSC) and Saints both have a two-point cushion lead in the Men's and Women's Premier Leagues respectively. Men's Premier League WOBSC played Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS). The first half of the match was tightly contested as both teams shared a 1-all stalemate. However WOBSC dominated the second half and ended the match with a final score of 5-2 in their favour. Siyabonga Martins netted twice during the encounter. Saturday saw Saints take on BDO Wanderers. The latter's head coach, Johan Wehye, pushed his team to the limit but later succumbed to a 3-0 loss. Fagen Hansen's goal opened the flood gates for the Saints who were quick with their play. The Namibia University of Science and Technology's (NUST) struggles continued as they went down to a 9-0 defeat against Saints. NUST on the other hand have shown great tenacity and continue to improve. On Sunday, BDO Wanderers played WOBSC. It was a game WOBSC expected to win with a bonus point. BDO Wanderers, on the other hand, had other ideas and kept it a tight contest. WOBSC eventually won the game 4-1 With Dylan Finch scoring a hat trick for his team. Women's Premier League Saints Angels played DTS and as predicted, it was a hard fought match which paused in nilall deadlock at half time. The second half saw goals from either side in quick succession to conclude the match with a 1-all draw. The current champions, Saints, later took on

DTS. As anticipated, the champions controlled the game from the start and won 5-0 at the final whistle. Five goal scorers registered their names on the score sheet. WOBSC faced BDO Wanderers and showed some form that saw them crowned champions a couple of seasons ago. WOBSC got the upper hand over BDO Wanderers in a game that the latter expected to win. It was, however, the Maroons that showed their mantle and won the game 3-1. Wilri van Taak scored twice. Below are the log tables for both the Men's and Women's Premier Leagues: Men's Premier League standing; 1. Mad Maroons 2. Saints 3. DTS 4. BDO Wanderers 5. NUST Women's Premier League standing; 1. Saints 2. WOBSC 3. ANGELS 4. BDO Wanderers 5. DTS The next round of fixtures will take place this coming weekend at the Wanderers and Windhoek Gymnasium hockey fields in Windhoek. Fistball League playoffs The Bank Windhoek Fistball League playoffs will take place on Saturday, 29 September at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) fist ball grounds in Windhoek. Teams in both the National A and B Leagues will fight it out for top honours to claim the ultimate crown this season. The first matches will kick-off at 08:30. In the scheduled two semi-finals, first placed SKW 1 will meet fourth seeded CFC 2. CFC 1 and SKW 2 who occupy the second and third spot, will battle it out for a ticket to the final. The current champions SKW 1 and CFC 1 who was last year's runnerup, continued on their blistering form performed last season. As a result, the two teams have been earmarked as favourites to make it as far as the finals come match day. In the past two league rounds, CFC 1 has gained momentum, which was driven by the reinforcement in its attack. Nevertheless, the matches against their arch rivals SKW 1 were close and highly competitive. The National B League comprises SFC, CFC 3, Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS) and CFC 4. In the first semi-final, SFC and CFC 4 who are fifth and eight on the table will face each other in the playoffs. Thereafter, CFC 3 and DTS will compete in the second semi-final in order to book a spot in the final contest. "Since each of the four teams is able to move mountains on an extraordinary day, it remains to be seen who will be crowned champions or who will have to settle for the last place. We look forward to top class fistball," said Fistball Association of Namibia's Media Officer, Helmo Minz. The match for the third and fourth place will take place before the finals, which are scheduled at 14:30 for the National B League and 16:10 for the National A League games respectively.
