A crew of nine fishermen were stranded for two days on the shore close to Conception Bay, after their snoek vessel, Lucille Way, ran aground in the area at 05:15 on Tuesday [18 April 2017]. The crew spent 53 hours in adverse desert conditions with survival gear before they were found “by mere chance”. “Lucille Way” ran aground on a sandbank about 25 kilometers south of the famous “Eduard Bohlen” shipwreck. The vessel ended up on its starboard side on the beach, as strong waves pounded the vessel. The sailors were found by Mr. Armand Basson of I Dream Africa Adventure Tours. Luckily for the stranded crew I Dream Africa Adventure Tours offers tours into the far south and was

travelling towards Meob Bay from Walvis Bay when Basson spotted the stranded crew. Basson conducts tours up to Meob Bay about twice a month. The crew can consider themselves very lucky indeed that they were spotted by mere chance. “The crew was understandably extremely happy to see us,” Basson said to namib times yesterday. Together with some clients he left Walvis Bay early on

Thursday morning. At about 10:30 he spotted something strange on the beach and upon closer inspection saw the stranded vessel. The crew was standing on the beach waving at the oncoming cars. At the time, they were left over to nature for 53 hours. “They had a bit of water and some biscuits left but not much else,” Basson added. The crew explained they ran aground on the sandbank early in Continues on Page 2

Man beaten up after racial slurs at Windpomp 14 Erwin Leuschner The 3rd Leg of the Coastal Angling Competition on Saturday by the Namibia Rock and Surf Angling Association (NRSAA) ended on a sour taste at the popular establishment Windpomp 14. One of the Association's affiliated members allegedly behaved embarrassingly and after racially motivated slurs it ended in a fist fight with security officials. A video clip of this unfortunate and immature incident e-merged on social media and spread like a wild-fire. The video shows security guards getting the better of the misbehaving patron, identified as a certain Willem de Klerk. De Klerk can clearly be overheard referring to the security officials as two baboons. In an effort to get a full version of events,

namib times obtained input from eyewitnesses. Eyewitnesses reported members of the NRSAA congregated at Windpomp 14, located between Swakopmund and Wlotzkasbaken, after the conclusion of the fishing competition. De Klerk included. At one point de Klerk allegedly pulled down his pants in public and urinated in public, much to the disgust and dis-

belief of other patrons. A security official confronted de Klerk who retaliated with alleged racially laced insults. The security official hit de Klerk. He was joined by a colleague. De Klerk can be overheard calling out to the officials as baboons and using exceptionally crude language. The incident has drawn much criticism since the weekend with many on social media conContinues on Page 2
