Walvis Bay mayor welcomes vehicle assembly plant’s opening later this year Floris Steenkamp

The vehicle assembly plant that will commence operations in Walvis Bay by the close of 2018, will produce vehicles exclusively for Opel South Africa and Peugeot/Citroën South Africa. These entities will redistribute these vehicles on the auto markets in SADC. This first glimpse of local knowledge into this auto manufacturing plant was provided on Tuesday night by the mayor of Walvis Bay, Alderman Immanuel Wilfried, in his monthly statement

The Herero and Nama uprising in 1904 saw German troops crushing the revolt with deadly violence and sending many to a concentration camp at Swakopmund where more people died. Other Herero and Nama people were enslaved on farms where they were worked to death and many died of starvation and disease. Every year the Herero and Nama people organise a reparation walk at Swakopmund over the Easter weekend to emp-

hasise their demand Germany paying reparations for the genocide. Also, respects are paid to those who lost their lives. The event is centred around the Swakopmund memorial park. This year interestingly the organisers of the event said it was poorly attended. In fact, no representatives of the Nama people attended. With regard to Chief Rukoro's remarks, the German Embassy issued a strongly worded Continues on Page 2
