Renate Potgieter; nationwide top academic performer Piquet Jacobs
Potgieter, a learner of Walvis Bay Private High School, was awarded the position as the nationwide top performer in the Grade 12 final exams and receives a N$2 000 national open scholarship prize for her hard work and dedication. “I had no words. I really wasn't expecting it. I decided to give it my all, to challenge myself. I wanted to do it right and not lose the opportunity to do my best”, Potgieter com-
mented on the achievement. Regardless to her position as the junior chief executive officer of the Walvis Bay Junior Council and her sports, Potgieter pus-hed

study Medicine at top South African universities, as well as to the University of Namibia and is waiting for feedback on acceptance.
Another impressive show at the Carnival of Flames A fire, dance and music extravaganza indeed: Once again the Carnival of Flames, hosted for the third time during the recent December holidays, was a massive success. More than 1500 visitors gathered at the Vineta Sports Grounds to witness various performers showcase their skills. Besides another incredible performance by the Evolve Fire Performers and Pole Gymnasts, the Ombazu Drummers, the Dance Factory, the Moon Goddess Dance Studio
and the Fire Flyz and Fusion Funk Dance Studio formed part of the programme. The Carnival of Flames “Cafè de Paris” had a French theme this time – it was a show enjoyed equally by young and old. Photos by Erwin Leuschner
