THEY had hope that one day their son was going to be healed and gets back to his normal life, but that was not meant to be and today the Nkweba and Tsebe’s families are mourning his death. This is the story of Tshegofatso Otsile Tsebe, the DIPG Warrior who has bravely lived, fought and suffered the pains of this merciless diseases through to his last breath on earth, Writes NAKAMPE LEKWADU. A week ago we reported in our Limpopo based newspaper, Lepelle Review about the plight of the Nkweba and Tsebe families who were asking for help to safe their six year-old son Otsile from this incurable brain cancer sickness called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma (DIGP). This was after we tracked Otsile’s mother, Matsatsi Nkweba from one of the

their respective line of duty, and they are Khutsisho Chuene from Mathibela and Kgaogelo Lesufi from Atok village (see their stories on Page 3) For now let me wrap it here, till we meet in our 14th edition-Nakampe

hospitals in Pretoria. It is with sadness to report back to you that Otsile has succumbed to the sickness on Friday. Matsatsi was heart-broken when she confirmed this sad news about her son’s death to Lepelle Review. “We were hoping that he was going to be okay one day, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. To my friends and family and all the South Africans whom I call my DIPG family, thank you so much for the support and the heartfelt messages and donations you have made during our challenging days. It is unfortunate we have lost our warrior who remained brave to go through the pains he suffered under this sickness. Watching him going through the pains he was suffering from was a torture on its own and I don’t wish any parents to go through that,”

said Matsatsi who has been on Otsile’s hospital bedside ever since. Before August 5 last year, Otsile was just a normal boy like any others, but his life completely changed for worse on that day whe he was diagonised with this Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma (DIPG). This is a rare merciless sickness which targets children between the age of four and nine years old and it has no cure, and even worse is that most of those affected dies within a period of nine months. Researches shows that the last time someone was diagonised with DIPG was in the 60s, on Niel Amstrong’s child who succumbed to this killer disease. And 50 years down the line still there is no cure and this because there is no funding from governments for researches worldwide. Otsile’s

page where he also announced his resignation. Swafo told Lepelle Review that he will be channeling his creativity and energy into his new urban digital audio platform called Tebzen Connect. parents were so keen to safe their son’s life after establishing an fund-raising account #HelpSaveOtsile in which they were hoping to raise funds so that their son could undergo to medical test trials currently conducted in countries such as Australia, Europe, Mexico and United State of America. “We were willing to lose everything to safe our son’s life despite having told by doctors that there was no hope for our son. We have accepted the defeat and believe that Otsile is at the right place now, far from the pains he had to endure in his challenging times,” added Matsatsi. Although arrangements are on the process, Matsatsi has confirmed that Otsile will be laid to rest this coming Saturday, February 9 at Block H in Soshanguve.

Feeding minds through the pages of his book

27-year-old author, mentor and entrepreneur, Khutsiso Chuene from Mathibela, phase 3 in Zebediela, says he realised that his writing has had a positive impact in his community and plans to continue using it to keep empowering and uplifting those around him.

"Growing up, I had always been a lover of literature. In fact, English and Sepedi were my favourite subjects when I was still in school. I was so passionate and wanted to explore my writing ability so bad that back in high school, I started a newspaper, which was a platform I used to share information to my school mates. Later on, I saw writing as a resource to share information and serve as a platform for the voiceless, achievers and game changers in my community,” Khutsiso explained. Khutsisho is running local

newspapers called Kasi Talk which he started in 2015. He told Lepelle Review that his motivation came from reading newspaper every day, and wanted to bring something different in the community. His biggest achievement though was the establishment of his own Mayonnaise product which he said it was influenced by her late grandmother’s recipe. “The product is called Queen Mosima Mayonnaise and it was named after my late grandmother in her honour as me and my mother inherited the recipe from her,” added Khutsiso. With a soft spot of kids, Khutsiso is also a proud owner of a football academy called Groothoek Zebras which compromises of boys from the age of 12 to 18 years. “The purpose of this academy was to shift the minds of these boys from committing bad things which could include indulging in drugs and activities that will and

may cause a setback in life,” said Khutsiso. Experience has proved that, continued Kutsisho :” Most of young boys from rural areas suffer from depression in silence as they are normally told to be strong and face life head-on. This always lead them to hanging around the wrong crowd who advise them wrongly about life and put pressure on them to get involved in activities that break them.” He advises elders in the community to pay more attention to male children to avoid them from falling into depression. “My mission is to help the disadvantaged one since I come from there and understand the situation of been under looked.,” concludes Khutsisho who also spend most of his time motivating students at various schools and also help them with subjects such as Life Science, Physical Science, Mathematics and Agriculture.

A concerned resident from Lebowakgomo Zone F has asked the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality to come and cover this open donga outside Dr

Dikson Primary School before kids can get drawn in there. “Apparently the municipality was removing a tree here, but instead of covering this donga

they just left it like that which is already posing danger because I have seen kids already playing inside it,” said the unanimous concerned resident.

MEET KGAOGELO THE MAN WITH MANY FACES

KGAOGELO Lesufi is one of the most multi-talented man to have come out of Sekhukhune area. Known as Kgaozalicias Gadaffi, the 27 year-old ambitious Atok born is an actor, singer, script writer and a preacher of the word of God. “Just like water in the dam, my talent has been there from my childhood and it gives me a pleasure that today I am sharing my knowledge with those around me,” said Kgaogelo. Kgaogelo’s talent was first realized in 2008 when he was in Grade 8 when he used to visit class by class preaching the word of God, and that earned him the name, Preacher as both teachers and fellow students started to call him that. “My talent for singing didn’t go unnoticed as there was a time when I was still a student that I won an award after I was voted the Best Lead Singer of the Year,” recalled Kgaogelo. His talent in singing catch the eyes of Atok Dramatic and Art group who recruited him to their crew, but his presence there was a short while as he decided to resign after he was recruited by another group, Phepane Youth Development in Lebowakgomo at Cultural Centre. “Working with Phepane Youth

Development exposed me to so many things, and it also came as no surprise as I also discover my other talent which I was not aware of, and that was my script writing skills. It was around that time when I started to think about my future career as my own boss and indeed last year I decided to resign from the group and started my own company called the B.B.M Media Production,” he said. Under his own company, Kgaogelo announce his arrival with a horror short movie with the help of his own crew formed by the likes of Khutso Mabotha, Karabo Phasha, Koketso Lesufi and Aubrey Motebejane. We went on to shoot our second project, added Kgaogelo: “And this time it was a Comedy called Magadi Lobola which was shot in the river. Other projects they have shot so far include Legotlo la Jozi and many other stage dramas.” So far Kgaogelo and his B.B.M production team has performed their stage dramas in the neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe and Xaixai in Mozambique. “We are highly demanded to perform in Zimbabwe, but financial constrain is always a stumbling block and with no sponsors on our side we are doomed,” pointed out Kgaogelo. B.B.M Production’s latest offering in the film industry is the horror movie named Blood Forest, which Kgaogelo said it is likely to be aired in the USA should everything go accordingly. “Blood Forest has also caught the attention of film makers in Mauritius where I was invited to go and share my ideas with other film makers out there. The trip was fully sponsored by a company based in there called Vanisha

SEKHUKHUNE FASHION SHOW TO UPLIFT THE LIVES OF LOCAL PEOPLE

FASHION Designers who are keen to parade their designer clothing need no longer to look further other than the Sekhukhune area. Alfrida Mahlodi Leutle from Ga-Radingwana outside Jane Furse has taken it upon herself in making sure that fashion designers have a platform where they can showcase their clothing via Sekhukhune Fashion Show. “It is a fact that we have so many talented fashion designers in the Sekhukhune area, but most of these designers are unknown due to lack of exposure, and that is the reason I have come up with this idea of starting a fashion show event were in local designers are given a platform to showcase their designs,” Mahlodi told Lepelle Review. Having teamed up with the likes of

other ambitious designers such as Tk log, k Master, Nancy, more creations, KatlegoB, Luciaand deca design. Sekhukhune Fashion show hosted their inaugural event recently at Jane Furse back to basics in the Makhudu Thamaga Local Municipality which Mahlodi has described as a big success. “The show was a very successful as we had designers from as far as outside our expected areas who express their gratitude about the event as they told us that they needed more events like that to grow and market themselves,” added Mahlodi. Mahlodi said they are also aiming at promoting local models, make-up artists and photographers through this event. “This means every time we will be

TOURISM INDUSTRY GEARS UP FOR MARULA SEASON THRILLER

02 -16 February 2019

HE FORGOT HIS BLINDNESS AND USE HIS OWN HANDS TO BUILD HIMSELF A TOILET

By NAKAMPE LEKWADU

THE Limpopo Annual Marula Festival is an opportunity to remind the citizens of Limpopo as well as the South African population that the wealth of the people rests within their respective communities. Currently, more than 1500 rural women derive direct and indirect benefits from the seasonal Marula activities between January and March every year around all Districts of the Province when taking into account the harvesting activities and supply to Distell, a partner that Government are constantly engaging to assist the province in the sustenance of this Industry. During the media launch MEC for LEDET Seaparo Sekoati unveiled the new theme for the next five years “Discover the Wealth of Marula”. “It is against this background that we would like to call upon the tourism industry to be creative and come up with appetizing packages to be geared for the Marula season influx, said CEO of LTA,

Ms. Nomasonto Ndlovu. She further said, “Our wish is to have visitors, especially those Visiting Family and Friends (VFR) spending more time in the Province using tourism facilities at their disposal to contribute to tourism and economic growth of the Province. We also need to have festival goers arrive early in Phalaborwa and experience the various tourism offerings in the mining town and surrounding areas and attractions like Kruger National Park, Hoedspruit Endangered Spices Centre, Agatha Crocodile Ranch in Tzaneen, Magoebaskloof Canopy Tours, Zwakala Brewery, Modjadji Cycad Forest, etc.” During the two weeks of celebration, the town of Phalaborwa records full occupancy in the hospitality sector while the excess will go to neighboring towns of Tzaneen and Hoedspruit. The Bollanoto Tourism Information Centre will assist those who will be looking for accommodation during this time but the Ba-Phalaborwa Tourism Association has also come up with innovative ways of assisting those without accommodation by utilizing homestays for visitors to enjoy a unique experience in family homes. We also urge tourism products owners and those who offer other tourism related services to enlist their products on leading tourism traveling apps such as Bookings.com, Trip Adviser, Lastminute.com and Trivago, but also to load their packages www.shotleft.co.za

Air B&B is another opportunity for homeowners to also benefit from the festival by listing those extra rooms and cottages in their homes on this platform. “As Limpopo Tourism Agency, we are very excited about how Limpopo Marula Festival grown both in stature and profile since its inception thirteen years ago. The festival now attracts over 30 000 visitors from Limpopo, rest of South Africa and internationally over the two weekend period. It is estimated that about 90% of the visitors are local that is, South African (mainly Limpopo) while 10% constitutes international visitors. The festival has a positive impact on the destination, especially Phalaborwa area, and has inspired a different thinking about what the province can do in relation to Agri-tourism. We are already seeing celebrations of berries and mangos with festivals that are becoming famous in the province, for example, the upcoming Magoebaskloof Berry Festival on 2-3 February 2019. This will further inspire other forms of tourism like Business Events (e.g. Marula Conference) and even wine tourism. The province prides itself with single grain crafters that produce whisky and gin locally. We are optimistic these innovations will not only help grow tourism and economy of the province, but will also profile Limpopo as a fruit basket of the country and a bucket list destination in South Africa”, concluded Ndlovu.

IN one of her 1976 songs, More than One kind of Love, the British singer Joan Armatrading said “There’s a lot of things you should hold, Keep in your heart and never let go…and that is PRIDE and DIGNITY, A SENSE OF SELF.” At the age of 55, Madimetja Nkogatse from Khureng village in Zebediela refused to allow his blindness to take away his Pride and Dignity. Tired of being a burden to his neighbours of whom he always ask to use their toilets to relieve himself, for once Nkogatse forgot his blindness and decided to build his own toilet which he had to start from the scratch with the help of no one. “In villages like ours, a toilet is still a luxury to most of us, and I just couldn’t afford any longer to be a burden to my neighbours. At times I would wake up in the middle of the night to answer for nature’s call at the back of my own house because I couldn’t go and wake them up, and that’s not healthy for me and neighbours as well” said Nkogatse. Nkogatse told Lepelle Review that after realizing a need to have his own toilet, he started digging a pit which took him few days to satisfy himself that it was deep enough before he could gather old plastics and poles to build what was enough to cover himself whenever he wanted to go and relieve himself. For roofing, he used an old steel bath which he is afraid is too heavy

and might collapse the entire toilet one day. “I might be blind but my pride and dignity as a human being comes first, hence I needed to have a toilet of my own so that I can be able to answer nature’s call in a closed space anytime I want. To many this toilet might be look like something they can joke about, but to me it means a lot as I can now do my business with pride and dignity without anyone seeing me,” added Nkogatse who has used an old paint container as a seat for his toilet. To navigate his way to the toilet, Nkogatse has tied a long rope between his bed through to the toilet. “The rope makes my movement from the room to the toilet easier because I can walk with no hustles and I reach the toilet in no time,” he said. Just like many other ignored and forgotten voiceless poor citizens, Nkogatse who stays in a one room house which was built for him by a relative 15 years ago has been waiting for the RDP house for donkey years from the local municipality of Lepelle-Nkumpi. “I registered for the RDP house 15 years ago and even today I am still waiting, and what breaks my heart is that there are people who were given their houses already despite the fact that I was first to register,” added the heart-broken Nkogatse whose life has been a struggle since a painful divorce more than a decade ago.

MELS Diverse OWNING a new car is no longer a costly indulgence reserved only for those with deep pockets. By foregoing small daily treats or saving the money you would normally use for public transport, you could be the proud owner of a brandnew Datsun GO for as little as R75 a day. The Datsun GO was launched late last year and the Mid Spec model costs a total of R144 500.This means over a period of six years with zero-percent deposit, R75 a day would pay off this zippy car as well as cover the costs of interest. There are a number of ways you could scrounge together R75 every day. Start looking at your daily spending habits

and think of creative ways you could cut back a little. For example, skipping your morning latte and croissant from the local coffee shop is a good place to start. Preparing lunches at home is another great way to save ZAR - not to mention healthier than the toasted tramezzini and cool drink from the office canteen. And when was the last time you looked over your subscription services and cleared out the ones you are not using anymore? Do you really need three video-on-demand services? Commuting back and forth to work each day on public transport or private taxies can easily exceed R75, especially if

you live far from the office. And people often subject themselves to this way of getting around because owning a car seems unattainable. Not only can it be easy to pull together R75 a day, owning a Datsun GO will get you places faster than public transport. In addition, the impressive fuel efficiency of the 1.2-litre engine, which has a combined consumption of 5.2 litres per 100km will save you money on fuel costs. The Datsun GO and GO+ models come with a standard 3-year/100,000km warranty and an optional service plan. Consumers will also receive one-year insurance with the purchase of a GO or GO+, so for the first year, your new car will truly only cost you R75 a day. The beauty about the Datsun GO is that when driving it you won’t feel like you are driving a car that only costs you R75 a day. The new models have an upmarket style that will stand out in the crowd and smart features that are usually found in more expensive vehicles. The GO and GO+ now have redesigned front grille and bumpers (front and rear) and 14” wheels. The New GO and GO+ models are powered by the energetic petrol engine that produces 50kW at 5,000rpm and 104Nm at 4,000rpm paired with a smooth 5-speed manual transmission. The Datsun GO also comes with a long list of safety features which will ensure that you are not skimping on what is really important. Standard specification includes reverse parking sensors, intermittent wipers, central locking, an immobiliser, ABS, driver and passenger airbags, and retractable seatbelts. So, have you figured out where that R75 is coming from yet?

LEOPARDS AND TTM CARRY LIMPOPO’S HOPES IN THE NEDBANK CUP

ZEBEDIELA ANNUAL GOLF PICNIC GAINING MOMENTUM

By LEBOGANG MAREDI

THE Nedbank Cup action return with 16 clubs taking each other between February16-19. Limpopo’s remaining clubs in the Ke Yona Cup, Black Leopards and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM), ironically both from Venda avoided each other in the draw which was conducted at the Mnet’ SuperSport offices in Randburg recently. Leopards were thrown a lifeline after they were drawn home but in a rather much tough opponents against the premiership log leaders BidVest Wits. Lidoda Duvha who eliminated Orlando Pirates out of the competition over this past weekend are currently playing an enterprising football which have seen them

going five five games without a defeat, something which saw their head coach Daylen Kerr and the club’s leading goal-scorer Mwape Musonda being crowned Coach and Player of the Month. On the hand TTM who ply their trade in the National First Division were drawn away to the elite league’s relegation threatened, Chippa United. Vhadau vha Damani as TTM are known ejected the high-riding Polokwane City out of the competition and it remain to be seen if they can spring a surprise for yet another elite league side. Already it’s a known fact that there will be a well balance of clubs from both the NFD and the elite league in the quarter-

finals of the competition as clubs campaigning in the lower division have drawn against each other and likewise in the bigger league. The full Nedbank Cup last 16 draw: Cape Umoya United v Mbombela United, Jomo Cosmos v TS Galaxy, Witbank Spurs v Golden Arrows, Magic FC V Kaizer Chiefs, Cape Town City v Highland Park and Bloemfontein Celtic v Richards Bay FC. Meanwhile the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search is now open to non-professional male footballers aged 18-23 who have South African ID numbers and are Nedbank account holders. THEY might not be boasting of quality golf course in their area, but Zebediela Golf Picnic Club have high dreams that one day they will compete with the country’s best golfers. One of the founding member, Rasheed Phiri was not mincing his words when he told Lepelle Review about how this club which is based at Hlakano village was formed. “It all started in 2016 when I met other five local golfers and we decided to play golf just for fun, but then we later decided to formalize it and registered the club as a Non-Profit Organization. This was after we realized that local people were beginning to grow in this sport,” remises Phiri. Phiri added that: “As the club started to grow, we realized that there was a professional golfer in our village in Frans Kekana, aka Papago Tshidi who is also a member of Professional Golfers As-

sociation (PGA). And that was when we decided on hosting a Mini Golf Day in the same year where we played against him. Since that day of the Mini Golf Day, we have been hosting Zebediela Annual Picnic events every December and the support from community members has been amazing.” After a successful events in 2016 and 2017, the organization management to attract the Zebediela Sports Development which came in as sponsors of the organization’s Annual Picnic event which was held last year. Other sponsors include Johannes Nyalungu and Iqembu & Kimopex “Even good news is that through this event, we have also managed to form a solid partnership with Hlakano Youth Club Development.” Concluded Phiri. The club’s other co-founders include Mosa Chauke, Benny Ramaremo and Thatego Ndlovu
