Nothing will come out of ANC’S PEC meeting-Teffo

POIITICAL analyst Professor Lesiba Teffo on Saturday said nothing much could be expected from the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) in Gauteng. The PEC was over the past weekend to consider the report by the provincial

integrity commission (PIC) relating to a R125 million personal protective equipment (PPE) tender. In its reports, the commission found that Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku failed to practice adequate oversight of the PPE contracts awarded by the Department of Health. Masuku, his wife Loyiso, and the husband of presi-

dential spokesperson Khusela Diko were implicated in the alleged fraudulently awarded tender. It is understood that the PIC made damning allegations against Masuku, his wife, and Diko. Teffo said nothing could be expected from the deliberations. “It is difficult to take a firm decision that may not be perceived to be factional. Perhaps depending on the strength of one’s faction, one might fall or one might raise,” he said. It was reported that Masuku had written a letter to the PIC objecting to its findings, saying in his view the findings did not take into consideration the facts put before the commission.-www.ewn. co.za

THE executive mayor of the city, Mzwandile Masina has called for heightened security measures to protect the new Eden Park Substation which comes at a cost of R42 million. Mayor Masina was speaking during a site visit to assess the state of readiness of the 33kv substation on Monday, September 14. Not only has the substation project employed 24 locals, but it is set to lighten up the lives of residents from Eden Park and Phola Park, through the provision of a stable and reliable power supply. The sub-

station, set for completion next month, will bring to a halt an era of intermittent power supply interruptions in the two areas. “We are very excited to see such a dedicated team that is working hard to implement our vision for a stable and reliable power supply in our City,” the Mayor said. The Mayor had earlier visited Glen Marais Substation in Kempton Park to see upgrades made to stabilise supply in Glen Marais and parts of Birchleigh

THE recent announcement by president Cyril Ramaphosa that the country is ready to move to Level 1 of the Covid-19 lockdown has come as a relieve for most of people in the entertainment circle. WE are well into the spring season and the weather is nice and warm. This also means that snakes will now be active after a long period of hibernation, hungry and in search of food. The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to caution pet owners to be on high alert and keep an eye on their domestic pets as they may fall prey to snakes. From mid-August until late May, a number of snakes, which are harmless to humans, such as the brown house snake, Arora house snake, olive house snake and redlipped snake are likely to be found in backyard gardens searching for food like rats and cats. Due to their harmless and less defensive nature, these species tend to be easily killed or captured as pets, an illegal and punishable act if one does not have a legal permit. Meanwhile, snakes such as the puff adder and rinkhals are extremely dangerous, with the puff adder

known to be very instinctive, slow in pace and quick to sense danger. The rinkhals or ring-necked cobra is a fast moving multi feeder, which is good at faking death. It is easily identified by the two white stripes that are visible across its neck when it spreads its hood. In case of encountering a snake, residents can call the city’s snake catchers listed below. Makhosonke Mabena – 071 833 6549, Sonny Katisa – 073 988 8131, Mapaseka Maleka – 079 180 9231, Lucky Mahlangu – 083 237 7137, Mbali Masango – 081 043 5354 Thembisa, Etwatwa, Kempton Park, Daveyton, Boksburg, Benoni, Vosloorus, Actonville/Wattville, Edenvale, Brakpan, Bedfordview, Springs, Germiston, KwaThema, Alberton, Tsakani, Thokoza and Duduza

SUNDOWS BASKING OF THE GLORIOUS SUNNY 2019/20 SEASON

THE year 2020 will forever be the most remarkable year for Mamelodi Sundowns after the Chloorkop side scored netted home a hat-trick into their trophy Cabinet. The Brazilians under the capable mentorship of Pitso “Jingles” Mosimane have had a successful 2019/20 season after they swept

clean almost everything in the Premiership cup competition, winning the Telkom Knockout, the Absa Premiership before they could cap their glorious season by lifting the Nedbank Cup. Winning the league title was like cutting deep into Kaizer Chiefs’ flesh who have been on top of the

league for the rest of the season but only to lose out in the eleventh hour. This more so because Chiefs who have been eluded by silverwares for the past five seasons were at some point leading the log with a 13 points gap against Sundowns Meanwhile Chiefs have appointed former BidVest Wits coach, Gavin Hunt as their new coach. Hunt who guided Wits (soon to be known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) to a sixth place finish on the Absa Premiership log will have no time to waste as he has to assemble the winning team ahead of the 2020/21 season which is due to start in few weeks. With FIFA having suspended the mighty Amakhosi from acquiring new players, pending on their appeal, Hunt will be forced to work with the current crop of squad until when the suspension has been lifted.

LEOPARDS RETAIN EITE LEAGUE STATUS

BLACK Leopards will still be playing in the elite league after the Limpopo side managed to maintain the top flight status via relegation/promotion play-offs Leopards who were expected to play their last match in the playoffs against fellow Limpopo side, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on September 21 (during the time of going to the press) confirmed their place in the top league after

a back to back three victories over Ajax Cape Town (1-0 and 2-0, home and away), a 1-0 over TTM. Despite Polokwane City’s relegation to the first division, Limpopo still remain with three clubs in the elite league following the purchasing of BidVest Wits by the owners of TTM. The other two cubs are Baroka FC and Leopards.
