TRANSPORT and Community Safety MEC in Limpopo Namane Masemola has asked motorists to take it easy on the road and respect other road users. Speaking from Magatle hospital earlier this week where he was visiting three of the survivors from a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday night (August 25) near Ga-

Rafiri Village in Zebediela that claimed nine lives with 27 escaped with njuries, Masemola said it is very important that drivers should always focus on the road and also respect the fact that they are not the only ones who are using the road. “We don’t want to jump into conclusion about what could have caused the accident as we are still waiting for the report from RTMS and Police

reports to establish what could have caused the accident, but all we can say is that people should be disciplined on the road and also respect other people’s lives by avoiding things that could cause unnecessary accidents,” added Masemola who also visited the accident scene soon after his visit to Magatle hospital. It is alleged that the accident happened when a Nissan bakkie was overtaking another

motor vehicle when it collided head on with a Toyota Quantum. Subsequently, another Toyota Quantum and a Mercedes Benz sedan were also involved. Road Accident Fund (RAF) in Limpopo’s Mapule Kgopa has since confirmed that they will be helping the families of the victims to lodge claims and also assist in funeral arrangements.

FIREWORKS EXPECTED AT LIMPOPO DERBY BETWEEN LEOPARDS AND BAROKA

FOOTBALL will once more divide the province of Limpopo when two of their Aba Premiership representative Black Leopards and Baroka FC will be taking each other in the battle for the province’ supremacy. This much anticipated Absa Premiership between Lidoda Duvha (hosts) and Bakgaga is scheduled for September 15 at the Thohoyandou Stadium,

kick-off at 3pm. Both clubs Baroka and Leopards have one thing in common, and that is they each avoided the chop last season through the skin of their teeth and secondly they started their 2019/20 Season on a bumpy note and it remain to be seen as to how they will improve as the season progress. The match will come after a

two week break, following on the MTN8 matches (August 31 and September 1) and the FIFA Week (September 6-8) in which will also see Bafana Bafana under an interim coach Molefi Ntseke guiding Bafana Bafana against Zambia away on September 7. Leopards will be going into the match against Baroka in a celebratory mood after they

registered their first league win of the season in four matches. This after they beat Maritzburg United 1-0 away on August 28 to move from position 15th to 12th with four points from that victory, a draw and two losses. As for Baroka (9th on the log with 4 points), they will need nothing but victory in order to dry tears of their fans after their 2-0 loss to SuperSport United at home in Polokwan’s Old Peter Mokaba Stadium also on August 28. Baroka are still to beat Leopards in their last five matches and those with good memories will remember that Lidoda Duvha collected all the six points on the table last season against Bakgaga. This after they beat them 1-0 in Thohoyandou in the first round on October 3 last year before they could made a meal out of the Ga-Mphahlele based outfit with a 2-1 drubbing in the second round clash played in Polokwane on January 6 this year. Meanwhile another Limpopo side, Polokwane City will be away to log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs on September 14 at the FNB Stadium. Rise and Shine are lying 5th on the log with 7 points after two

wins, one defeat and one draw and it remain to be seen if they will be the first side to stop the the Naturena Boys’ run-away train that sees the unbeaten mighty Amakhosi in four matches comfortably sitting on top of the log with 10 points after three wins and one draw. Chiefs beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the last match while City managed an away point after they held Chippa United to a goalless draw. On the same day (September 14), Golden Arrows will welcome cross-town neighbours AmaZulu in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby with Bloemfontein Celtic taking on Stellenbosch FC at the Dr Molemela Stadium a day later.
