ALL WASTE CLEARED IN ALEXANDA!

212 general workers are responsible for waste collection services in the area. However, due to service delivery interruptions occasioned by the protest action an additional 121 general workers were deployed in Alexandra to assist with clearing the waste removal backlogs. In relation to equipment under normal circumstances Pikitup uses six (6) illegal dumping vehicles and post the service delivery protest two (2) additional vehicles were used. Furthermore, seven (7) compact trucks are used during normal refuse collection rounds but due to the backlogs an additional five (5) trucks were deployed to normalize waste collection services. Bulk waste collection services in hostels and schools around the area were also rendered.

The City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, Pikitup, has successfully cleared all waste removal backlogs in Alexandra, North of Johannesburg, after this service could not be rendered

during the recent service delivery protests in the area.

for employees and Pikitup’s already-fragile assets.

Pikitup services could not be rendered fully in Alexandra from 3 April 2019 to the 5 April 2019 due to safety concerns

This resulted in heaps of illegal dumping sites spreading across the area. Therefore, Pikitup’s plan to clear the backlog was

set in motion from the 6th of April 2019 and the plan entailed deploying additional human resources as well as extra waste removal equipment. Under normal circumstances

Pikitup will continue to service the area seven days a week and waste collection services are back to normal in Alexandra. The City will continue to run a responsive and pro-poor government, and continue to do all we can to ensure that change is brought to our communities.

"I started the event because there isn't much entertainment that caters specifically for kids so this is an opportunity for these kids to dress up, meet their heroes and dance with their parents", he said. He said he feels that this is an opportunity to come spend quality time with their parents and have fun that's why he brought Dj Arch Jnr who is their peer so they can also see that even at that tender age anything is possible. Cooler boxes with alcohol are allowed at the venue for R50 as it's a kid event even though there is a designated area to relax and have a few inside the venue. Tickets are R90 kids R120 adults and the event starts at 10am to 19h00.

Here's your guide to navigating the polls on 8th May… Cyril Ramaphosa declared 8 May a public holiday throughout South Africa, but if you are working for any reason, make sure you’re available to vote, keeping in mind the queues do tend to take some time. On that note, take snacks, some water. Even if it looks overcast in the morning, you’re probably going to be queuing for quite some time. Make sure you stay hydrated. If it's rainy, well, take something warm and a umbrella! And finally, as excited as you may be, you absolutely cannot take any photos of your vote in the booth – it is an offense to reveal your or anyone else’s vote. Wait until you’re outside the booth to snap your inked thumb or pose for that selfie. 23 years after South Africa’s first democratic elections and steadily approaching the 2019 general election, a brand-new generation will place their first ever vote for a better and brighter future for South Africa. So for our first-time voters fresh out of matric, or if you happen to be a parent of a young adult who’ll be navigating the polls this year, we’ve put together a guide to ensure that while they wait in the queues, they don’t get lost in the crowd. The 8th May have been confirmed as the voting

day and below is some tips on what to expect when entering the polling station When the day arrives you’ll need two things: Your ID book/smartcard ID The application sticker pasted into your ID book or on smartcad when you applied for registration. This will be scanned to check your status on the voter’s roll. If you registered years ago and since got a smartcard, take your old ID book with the barcode sticker along. On the day, once your barcode has

been scanned, you’ll be given two ballot papers: one for the national election and another for the provincial election. Head into a voting booth, ensure no-one is watching, and make your mark. It’s as simple as that. Draw your cross neatly in the box next to your chosen party, and don't scribble or scrawl, as this will be counted as a spoilt vote. A few tips and reminders: Before anything else, check your status. Make sure you’re registered to vote and where you’re supposed

to place your vote. Make sure you have all the documentation you need – it'll either be your ID book or you smartcard ID, as well as your sticker. Do your homework. Make sure you know about every party you can vote for, and ensure you read up enough to equip yourself with the knowledge to make an informed decision on the party/parties you do vote for. Make sure you’re available within the times stipulated by your voting station. On 25 February President

MASH’ED CORNER DAWN OF THE NEW ERA

THIS year we will be exercising our political right to vote for those we trust with the governance of our country. Going down in history as our 6th democratic election season, 2019 might also go down in history as the first year we have a coalition government. Former President Jacob Zuma has been crucified multiple times in the media as the man who allegedly ‘sold’ our country to the highest bidder. What most do not recognize is that he is also the leader whose alleged actions resulted in an active political participation by the younger generation. We cannot be blind to this. 2019 marks the beginning of a

new era. An era where children born in 2000 are eligible to vote. An era where millennials feel forgotten. Some were born and raised in an era where many promises where made to the black child. 25 years later we are still holding an empty bag. These elections are giving us an opportunity to select who we trust to represent our interests in parliament and in government. It is very important for us to understand the policies that each political organisation has in their manifestos. It is also important for us to acquaint ourselves with their respective provincial lists of representatives. We should research them. Know their resumes, achieve-

ments and their scandals. We owe it to ourselves to make an informed decision. Take a moment to go through the manifestos provided by the various political parties. Learn what it is that they are promising. Choose the one that connects with your personal views. We all have a responsibility to ourselves, our communities, our generations and those coming after us. Let our voices be heard. Go vote!! And remember, political participation is not limited to just voting. LENONG GIVES BACK TO HIS COMMUNITY

FOR the past three years Ntsieng Lenong (Pictured left on the backrow) celebrated his birthday with needy communities in Soweto, by making a difference in the lives of others with the assistance from Coca Cola Beverages SA. This year on April 22 he hosted a fundraiser for the Red Lions Sports Academy which been formed in Phiri Soweto where he grew up. ” The community of Phiri where I grew up were looking forward to this day and nothing would deter them. It is the same soccer team in this community that former Kaizer Chiefs star midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala was groomed. Over the years we are trying to remove the kids from the streets and committing them to programs that will keep them busy away from idling, drug abuse and crime,” explain Lenong. Red Lions has 74 young boys ranging from 8 to 17 years with 16 girls all bellow 16years. This is where South Africa’s 2010 world cup hero Siphiwe

Tshabalala started his soccer careers. Lenong told Kasie Focus that h grew up in this community and giving back to a team of four divisions and seeing them used to share one kit was eminent. From Turkey where he is now based, Siphiwe inspired the young boys when he was put on loud speaker connected to the microphone addressing the boys. There was storm, hail and thunder on frequent intervals but the kits that Siphiwe and I bought, brought cheers and much joy through it all. The day ended with a feast and appreciation from Coca Cola Beverages SA, donations of coca cola soccer balls, beverages and CCBSA branding Thanks to Georgett Naidoo (second left on the backrow) , CSI Specialist of Coca Cola Beverages SA that made herself present to handover the soccer balls to the teams The day was well spent and as Shakespeare put it" storms may come but the ship sails on.

SUNDOWNS AND PIRATES’ SUCCESS IN CAF HELPS BAFANA BAFANA

Man of the moment…Stuart Baxter is seemed to have finally found back the mojo for Bafana Bafana’s lost glory. By NGWAKO MACHETHE IT has been a while since Bafana Bafana have qualified for a major tournament and 2019 have been a different. With the AFCON 2019 around the corner, many have been asking themselves what Bafana Bafana has done differently. Well, for starters the team is obviously new, with new players that wants to write their own history. South Africa needs new footballing heroes and the current crop of players knows that…they can see how some of the t class of ’96 are making a living way after retirement. Some have turned their knowledge to coaching, while others are television football analysts. SAFA Technical Director and Bafana Bafana legend Neil Tovey recently told the media that he believes success in the CAF Champions League and even the Confederations Cup helps Bafana Bafana to succeed in Africa. Sundowns have been massively successful in the Champions League in recent seasons, winning the crown in 2016. Whereas, Pirates gave a good account of themselves in their return to Africa's most prestigious club competition this season by reaching the group stages. In addition, SuperSport United were losing finalists in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2017 to TP Mazembe. Al Ahly will take a risk against ES Tunis in the

CAF Champions League final. Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City and Free State Stars have all taken part with less success in the CCC as well in recent times. "It's very, very important that we do well in our CAF Championship matches. It's all about getting experience on the continent; you can't buy that experience you know. That's how it should always be, it shouldn't be anything different. You are playing for your country, so it shouldn't be anything different. It's just a case of a strong mental approach to the game, and that's what you need. Putting Al Ahly, record eight times champions of Africa’s premier continental club tournament; to the sword with a ruthless 5-1 aggregate scoreline was no mean feat given The Red Devils’ formidable reputation on the continent. Such an experience against a continental giant that is often a cornerstone of the Egyptian national team could prove pivotal when Bafana Bafana, who often draw a considerable pool of players from the Chloorkop based outfit for international encounters, head out to Egypt in June. The swashbuckling juggernaut assembled by Pitso Mosimane, the 2016 African Coach of the Year, plays with the swagger of a team that is sure of its standing in African football, a team that is hellbent on lifting the continent’s premier club compe-

tition on June 1st 2019. Baxter will be banking on The Brazilians' figures such as skipper Hlompho Kekana, the silky Themba Zwane, the tough as nails Tiyani Mabunda, the consistent Tebogo Langerman and the technically gifted Lebogang Maboe to transfer their incredible domestic and continental form to the national side in June and July. The likes of Kekana and Mabunda are hardened and tactically astute warriors who should be able to go toe to toe for midfield scraps with European based opponents such as Cote d'Ivoire's AC Milan midfield powerhouse Franck Kessié, Fulham's Jean-Michaël Seri and the robust Serey Dié of Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax. Playing in Africa is no easy task, what with the variety of dirty tricks employed by teams on the continent to unsettle visiting opposition, but Sundowns have weathered every storm that's been thrown their way on their expeditions across Africa and that experience will no doubt go a long way in helping Bafana during the four week long tournament. The 32nd edition of African football's showpiece event could serve as a telling account of the direction South African football is taking, particularly with qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup in mind, and the stars of the country's two biggest clubs could and should play a central role in that story.

Danone Nations Cup Teams Up with MR Price Sport

SOUTH African sporting and outdoor value retailer, mrpsport (Mr Price Sport) has teamed up with the Danone Nations Cup as the official apparel sponsor. This collaboration is a great opportunity for mrpsport to showcase its very own Maxed brand on the world stage. With value at the core of its offering, Maxed continues to ensure that its worldclass fitness and sporting range remains accessible to every level of athlete – novice or pro – no matter their budget. "We are really excited to be supporting a national soccer event that enables local young talent to participate at a global level," says mrpsport Marketing Executive, Dylan Cherry. The Danone Nations Cup which celebrates its 20th year is the world’s biggest soccer tournament for aspiring soccer legends between the age of ten and twelve years old. The tournament first kicked off in 2000, and has since become more than a “kids’ world cup” - it has become a memorable and invaluable experience for millions of children, all built on the central sporting values implemented in the first edition of this tourna-

ment: fair play, openmindedness, humanity, proximity and enthusiasm. Since its inception, the Danone Nations Cup has seen more than 2.5 million aspiring soccer players compete annually. Across the globe, 34,000 schools and 11,000 clubs take part every year. The tournament has grown from an eight-nation event with 20 boys’ teams competing this year. Previously boys and girls could be included in the teams and in 2017 the Danone Nations Cup introduced an all-girl tournament to run in conjunction with the original format of the event. South Africa is one of only a couple of countries that has been participating in the tournament since its inception in 2000 and is one of two countries that has won the tournament three times; in 2003, 2007 and 2009. “We are extremely excited to have mrpsport on board,” said Chantel Ehlers, Internal Communications Manager, Danone Southern Africa. “This year is Danone’s centenary and the tournament is 20 years old and to mark this auspicious occasion we will be staging a double-tournament (2018 and 2019) in the country and city where Danone first started, Barcelona,
