BSI releases New Testament in Nagamese UIDAI to set up 114 Aadhaar Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, OCT 30 (NPN): After three-and-ahalf years of hard work, research and extensive collaboration, Bible Society of India (BSI) released its first Nagamese New Testament at Nagamese Baptist Churches Association (NBCA) administrative office, Kuda village in Nagarjan here on Tuesday. The Nagamese New Testament was translated by gold medallist in M Th (New Testament) Imsutoshi Jamir and co-translated by expert linguist JS Rengma. The Nagamese New Testament has English standard version (ESV) as its text base with reader-friendly additions like a glossary of 1,860 words and their meanings, footnotes, standardised spelling pattern, new words coined to help readers understand and spell words, parallel passages, biblical
and theological terms, besides a consistent use of grammar and gender. The translator also used a software translation application developed by United Bible Society in collaboration with the American Bible Society called “paratext” to ensure accuracy and consistency. The speaker for the programme was BSI Dimapur senior auxiliary secretary Rev Dr ZK Rochill, while legislator CL John was the special guest. Other dignitaries on the occasion were BSI officials and representatives from various Nagamese Baptist churches in Nagaland. In his message, Rev Rochill spoke about Chinese communist revolutionary Mao Zedong who had once ordered bibles to be burnt, carried out the destruction of churches and vowed to keep the Bible out of China. But Amity Press, which is
the world’s largest printing press for Bible, is ironically now located at Nanjing city in China, he pointed out. Founded in 1987 in response to requests from Chinese church leaders, Amity Press now supplied Bible to the US and UK. Rochill assured the church leaders present that he would continue to assist them in getting more copies printed and print a revised edition too. In his address, John said Nagamese was God’s given language not only for the Nagas but even those who had settled in the State, adding it was also spoken in neighbouring Assam, Manipur and even as far away as Myanmar. He asserted that Nagamese was among the easiest languages and took less effort to learn, unlike English that took years to for becoming proficient along with the high expenditure
lences to the families of the bereaved,” he told reporters here. Chief Minister Raman Singh described the attack as a “cowardly” and “shameful” act. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore condemned the attack and said the insurgents won’t be able to weaken the government resolve. Condemning the Naxal attack, the Congress Tuesday expressed its condolences and said people were determined to oust the Raman Singh government in the state.

Greetings were also brought by Shillong-based BSI Translation Centre’s translation advisor Meyijungla and Zubza mission chairman Petevi. In her address, Meyijungla told the congregation that the Translation Centre in Shillong currently had 55 translation projects, including both first-time translations and revisions. She informed the gathering that the centre had completed translation of Bible into 54 languages and New Testament into 27 languages, along with study Bibles in Mizo, Ao and Khasi languages, besides children’s Bible in 16 languages.
Seva Kendras across India
NEW DELHI, OCT 30 (IANS): To provide hasslefree Aadhaar enrolment services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Tuesday said that it was going to set up Aadhaar Seva Kendras across the country on the lines of the Passport Seva Kendras. UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey said that around 114 such centres in 53 cities and towns, including all state capitals, would be established in the first phase. This would be in addition to the centres already operating in banks, post offices and government premises. These centres, each with eight or 16 stations depending on the population of the city, would start functioning within the next few months. “With Aadhaar Seva Kendras, we are building (Cont’d on p-11) hassle-free and resident-
friendly enrolment and update facility infrastructure to ensure ease in Aadhaar-related services to residents,” he added. UIDAI sources said that the Aadhaar Seva Kendras would be supervised directly by its own employees just like the Passport Seva Kendras are run under the supervision of passport officials. They would provide appointment-based enrolment and update services to residents while also dedicating a few counters for walk-in customers. Following the decision of the Supreme Court in the Binoy Viswam case, also known as the PAN-Aadhaar linking case, the UIDAI had started shifting enrolment and update facilities from private places to banks, post offices and government premises to make Aadhaar-related services more secure.
foundation and passed on it to the future generations, a legacy that even the more civilised neighbouring countries could not imagine then. Peseyie said NC records clearly proved that the club was never defunct, but only remained inactive for some time. He mentioned that with the centenary year drawing close, some wellmeaning and concerned Naga elders, after having a consultative meeting of Naga tribes on June 2, 2017 at the club, elected new officer bearers on adhoc basis and that this was regularised on August 17 by tribal representatives. He remarked that the noble deeds of NC founders and signatories of the famous memorandum were worthy of honour and remembrance for all times in the journey towards selfdetermination. (Cont’d on p-11)
