IMPHAL, JUN 14: As violence continues to simmer in Manipur, nine people, including a woman, were killed and 10 injured on Tuesday night in Khamenlok area. According to official sources, the death toll could rise as around four people reported to be missing. (PTI): The Law Commission on Wednesday initiated a fresh consultation process on uniform civil code by seeking views from stakeholders, including public and recognised religious organisations, on the politically sensitive issue.

Earlier, the 21st Law Commission, whose term ended in August 2018, had examined the issue and solicited the views of all stakeholders on two occasions.

Subsequently, a consultation paper on “Reforms of Family Law” was issued in 2018.

“Since more than three years have lapsed from the date of issuance of the said consultation paper, bearing in mind the relevance and importance of the subject and also the various court orders on the subject, the 22nd Law Commission of India considered it expedient to deliberate afresh over

The 22nd Law Commission, which recently got a three-year extension, has accordingly begun examining issues related to UCC on a reference sent by the Ministry of Law and Justice in June 2016.

“Accordingly, the 22nd Law Commission of India decided again to solicit views and ideas of the public at large and recognised religious organisations about the Uniform Civil Code,” the statement said.

Those who are interested and willing can present their views within a period of 30 days from the date of notice to the Law Commission.

If need be, Commission may call upon any individual or organisation for a personal hearing or discussion, it said.

The consultation paper said most countries are now moving towards recognition of difference, and the mere existence of difference does not imply discrimination but is indicative of a robust democracy.

In short, a uniform civil code means having a common law for all citizens of the country that is not based on religion.

DIMAPUR, JUN 14 (NPN): Principal district and session judge Kohima, Duvelu Vero, has sentenced a man to undergo 14 years rigorous imprisonment for rape, robbery, criminal assault and criminal intimidation etc on a 55-year-old woman on October 13, 2019 at Rusama village.

In a press release, public prosecutor Kohima, Marlemba, informed that the accused identified as Vekhota alia Alex would serve the sentence in district jail Kohima. While pronouncing the judgment in the open court, the judge stated that the prosecution had proved all the charges U/S 376 (1)/356/392/506/IPC beyond all reasonable doubt.

The judge also recommended the state government to give compensation to the children of the victim (deceased) under the victim’s compensation scheme.

Khonoma among India’s 50 tourist destinations Conference on foundational literacy & numeracy, NEP

KOHIMA, JUN 14 (NPN): Widely referred to as Asia’s first green village, Khonoma has now been marked as one of the 50 tourist destinations of India. This was disclosed

by Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along during his visit

to the village on Wednesday.

Addressing a programme held in his honour at Terhotsiese, Khonoma Community Hall, Along said the Tourism ministry saw prospects in Khonoma village and hence selected it as one of the 50 tourist destinations in the Tourism Challenge Mode project.

Earlier, Along was received by minister for Horticulture and Woman Resource Development Salhoutuono Kruse along with Khonoma Village Council, Khonoma Youth Organisation and Khonoma Eco Tourism Committee officebearers.

It may be mentioned that Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman had announced while presenting the Union Budget 2023-24 on February 1 this year that at least 50 destinations would be selected and developed as a complete package of tourism.

Expressing concern over the “mathematics phobia” particularly among

students in the North East, he said teachers have a significant role to play in imparting strong mathematics foundation from the school level so as to equip students with a sound base for the “top level”.

“Very less students choose Science stream because of the fear of mathematics. Therefore, we need to build a strong foundation from the school level so it becomes easier for students at the top level,” said Dr. Borbora.On NEP 2020, he said the policy would provide an opportunity for holistic learning and development of students.

Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) reacts to NSO, ENSA Foothill road: NZPO backs NFHRCC appeal DIMAPUR, JUN 14 (NPN): Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) has reacted to the statement of Naga Students’ Organisation (NSO) and Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) and urged the two student bodies to “stop putting NSCN/GPRN on equal footing” with the “expelled member” who did not have any political future “rather than amassing wealth under the payroll of the Indian intelligence.”

The group through its MIP said “such intemperate threat and criticism” coming from the “intellectual community” even after knowing the whole truth was “a huge insult to the NSCN/GPRN

and the ongoing Naga struggle.” MIP stated that it would be “a futile attempt” on the part of NSO and ENSA to expect NSCN/GPRN to “yield to the threats and whims of Langnyei and his gang.” It said that Naga struggle was too sacred and too precious to be a bargaining tool to be exchange with corrupt nationalists.

It asked NSO and ENSA to introspect deeply to make a correct decision and “not be carried away by their emotional thinking and feelings.” Stating that it understands their discontentment, MIP said the group appreciated their tireless effort to bring peace between

the two sides. MIP said this was why they accepted their appeal for reconciliation and its president Yung Aung had gone ahead and signed the “Public Declaration paper” on May 20, 2023.

However, MIP said when people at the other end refused to reciprocate with the same tone, NSCN/ GPRN cannot be blamed for it. “We must not fear to stand by the truth. The day we failed to distinguish between right from wrong our hard work will fade away into nothingness,” MIP stated. Accusing those members at GHQ of violating every discipline of the revolutionary ethics, the

group claimed that for years GHQ and its surrounding areas have become “a breeding ground for all types of anti-people elements which only strengthen our adversaries.” It stated that if it failed to act collectively the future consequences would be “more severe than we can ever imagine.”

NSCN (K) led by president Yung Aung affirmed that it was always ready to reconciliate but not at the cost of Naga Independent movement. MIP, therefore, urged NSO and ENSA “not to jump to conclusion before digesting the truth and make hasty decision or the result can be counter-production.”

DIMAPUR, JUN 14 (NPN): Na g a la nd Ze liang People Organisation (NZPO) has extended support to the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC)’s appeal to the state government to put into action the Nagaland Assembly Resolution adopted on September 22, 2022 by taking up the foothills project under NEC during the Financial Year 2023-2024.

In a press release, NZPO president Kevipele Iheilung stated that the “historical peoples’ road” from Tizit to Khelma was a longcherished dream of every Naga. NZPO also stated that foothills road was one

of the most urgently needed developments connecting every district of the state without passing through other state.

NZPO has, therefore, appealed to the state government to implement the assembly resolution during the current financial year.

Kohima-Pedi-Peren road: NZPO has appealed to the Project Sewak, Dimapur to strengthen the whole length of Kohima-PediPeren road with Dense Bitumen Macadam (DBM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC).

In a letter addressed to the chief engineer project Sewak Dimapur, NZPO president Kevipele Iheilung stated that the particular

road was the only lifeline for many villages, but users especially Zeliang villagers have been suffering for many years due to the pathetic road condition.

NZPO noted that the road stretch between 18-40km and 75-91.38km was to be surfaced with 30mm thickness BC, which it expressed apprehension could hardly stand for a few months only.

With the increase in heavy vehicular movement, NZPO said resurfacing with 30mm BC cannot withstand.

It said that once resurfacing was done another resurfacing cannot be expected before 5-6 years.

DIMAPUR: Mokokchung police while conducting vehicle checking and frisking at Settsu junction on June 12 intercepted a Maruti Ecco (AS 04 X 7679) and recovered 2153 numbers of suspected spasmo proxyvon capsules from the possession of two persons.

In a press release, additional superintendent of police and PRO Mokokchung said the two arrested persons were identified as Litongse Sangtam (38) son of Holise Sangtam of Mangakhi Village of Longkhim Tuensang and P Lipongchem (41) son of late Bunsokyu of Mangakhi Village of Longkhim Tuensang. PRO said a case has been registered at Mokokchung police station for further investigation.

DIMAPUR: Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has issued code of conduct to be followed by students informing that it will conduct surprise checking from time to time and cautioned any person failing to comply with the norms will be severely dealt with.

The union cautioned that any student found in alcohol joints, cyber cafes or any other places or found indulging in any immoral activities will be penalized both inside and outside the school in uniforms during school hours will be penalised including the proprietors.

It warned that threat or any form of disrespecting the teachers and staffs shall not be tolerated and in the event of any such incident, then stern action shall be initiated against such insubordinate students.

ASU said that action will also be initiated against students forming gangs and involving in gang fights, and found taking any intoxicant substances.

It also informed that students below the age of 18 were not allowed to drive vehicles and prohibited use of government vehicles for dropping and picking up of students from schools.

The union cautioned that such activities shall be penalized and the union shall activate its volunteers to note such vehicle registration num-

bers and report to the competent authority for necessary action.

Students were also directed to dress appropriately and decently; cautioned that any cases of abuse amounting to harassment of students shall not be tolerated.

Private colleges, schools, coaching institutes and hostels managed by individuals for profit and business leading to astronomical rates of fees with little or no facilities will be monitored along with the concerned authorities.

ASU also discouraged imposition of fines against failed subjects and absentees and has rolled out the tuition fee structure to be maintained and adhered to in all Angami jurisdiction till further notification.

ASU said the fee structure will be strictly (only) for urban areas, while its units have been asked to formulate their own fee structure in their respective village and jurisdiction.

The union cautioned that any person failing to comply with the norms will be severely dealt with and requested all institutions within its jurisdiction to take note of the regulations.

In the memorandum, the employees claimed that non-settlement of wage revision of around 12,000 non-executives (Group C and D) employees out of 30,000 had resulted in stoppage of annual increment, due to stagnation.

The memorandum stated that the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), the nodal department for BSNL, had issued a letter to the chairman & managing director (CMD) of BSNL on April 27, 2018 directing negotiation and signing of Wage Revision Agreement with the recognised unions of the non-executives and send the same for approval.

However, even after five years, the BSNL management had not signed the agreement with the unions, which was leading to the stagnation, the memorandum said.

The protesters demanded that the wage revision should be settled without further delay.

They also pointed out that the inordinate delay in the launching of BSNL’s 4G and 5G services had resulted in huge losses since private operators had already launched their 5G service.

This delay, they alleged, was due to the roadblocks created by the government

in launch of 4G by BSNL. The unions claimed that due to non-availability of high speed data service with BSNL, 77 lakh customers had left the company in 2022 alone. Even thereafter, lakhs of customers were leaving BSNL due to the heavy delay in BSNL’s launching of 4G and 5G services.

This exodus of BSNL customers, the memorandum mentioned, was causing irreparable damage to the company.

The protesters demanded that all-out efforts should be made for immediate launching of BSNL’s 4G and 5G services.

They further demanded a new promotion policy for the non-executives, alleging that they were being discriminated in the matter of promotions. The unions insisted that the

policy should be reviewed and implemented.

The memorandum requested the governor to intervene and settle the burning issues of the employees and the company.

The employees had, through separate letters addressed to BSNL CMD PK Purwar and telecom secretary, DOT, K Rajaraman, notified them earlier about their proposed nationwide protest.

Earlier, on June 1, they had organised a human chain programme in all district headquarters, which was followed by Wednesday’s march to Raj Bhavans and submission of memorandums in all circle headquarters.

GUWAHATI, JUNE 14 (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the Guwahati railway station will be transformed into a next-generation station which will have all the stateof-the-art facilities.

CHENNAI, JUN 14 (PTI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested Tamil Nadu Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister V Senthil Balaji under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), official sources said, making him the first member in the M K Stalinled Cabinet to face such an action from a central probe agency.

Balaji was arrested after a long session of questioning, they said, even as the 47-year-old minister was admitted to a city government hospital after he complained of uneasiness.

He underwent a coronary angiogram and was advised bypass surgery at the “earliest”.

A local court later sent him to judicial custody till June 28.

NEW DELHI, JUN 14 (PTI): The border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh have taken a “momentous” decision to initiate joint civil works on five development projects along the 4,096 kms of shared boundary which will help the local population on both sides, a senior officer said Wednesday.

At the end of their four-day biannual border talks conference that began on June 11 in Delhi, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) also said they are working independently and jointly to “reduce” the instances of killing of Bangladeshi nationals in the boundary area. The issue of these killings, which the BSF has linked to miscreants and smugglers either attacking

its personnel or indulge in other cross-border crimes, has been a major irritant between the two neighbours.

The 53rd edition of the conference was led by the chiefs or directors general (DsG) of the BSF and the BGB and ended with the signing of a ‘joint record of discussions’ at a BSF camp located in Chhawla area of the national capital.

“During this conference, in a momentous decision, that will have a profound positive impact on the lives of the population along the India-Bangladesh border, a total of five developmental projects were agreed upon, enhancing the joint efforts towards progress and prosperity in the region.” “This decision is a significant step towards improving the overall quality of life and will serve to foster stronger bilateral trade and relations between the two countries,” the BSF said in a statement.

These five development projects are related to the construction of a bailey bridge, road repair and the strengthening of the retaining walls along the border that runs on India’s eastern flank in five states of Assam, West Bengal, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Tripura.

irfares on certain domestic routes have skyrocketed in recent days, largely driven by summer travel demand, airline capacity constraints and suspension of Go First’s operations. On routes involving popular summer holiday destinations, airfares have jumped up by as much as 50-80 percent over last month.

This summer travel season has seen an unusually high spike in ticket prices. For instance, the round trip delhi-Goa which used to be priced at Rs.15,000 in May shot up to Rs.22,000 by June.

Also, the price of a ticket for a round trip from delhi-Mumbai that used to be priced at Rs.14,000 in May shot up to Rs.20,000 by June. The entire air fare has gone crazy especially the popular route between delhi-Leh for which a round trip coast was touching around Rs.50,000 at peak season. Amid the surge in domestic airfares, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia asked airlines to “self-monitor” the prices on certain routes, particularly the ones that have been most affected by suspension of cash-strapped airline Go First from May 3.According to IATA, the price of jet fuel has increased nearly 150% in the last year. Airlines are also facing the reality of not having enough pilots and flight attendants to run their flights, as well as higher labor costs.

All of these forces have combined to create rising ticket prices. The hike in jet turbine fuel that was hiked to nearly 150% is under the control of the government. According to various reports, the turbine fuel ought not to have sky rocketed since India buys oil from Russia at cheap rates.

The market share of crude oil imports from Russia, which stood at less than 1% before the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, rose to 1.64 million barrels per day in March, taking Russia’s share to nearly 34%. Crude oil imports from OpEC countries declined to 59.5% of total imports during April–March 2022–23 as compared to 71.6% during April–March 2021–22, according to the date released by the petroleum planning and Analysis Cell. The government has not passed on the windfall from the import of crude oil from Russia as prices of fuel continued to rise. The other factor is the use of advanced computer and pricing algorithms by airlines to determine prices and run sales based on the time of the year, passenger demand, weather, major events/festivals, time of day, competitor prices, fuel prices, etc. When travel demand is low, prices are low and when demand is high, prices are high to capitalise on the interest. To do this, airlines set up a pricing schedule for their flights, putting the seats into price ‘buckets,’ and as one ‘bucket’ fills up, they open the next, more expensive one up for purchase. The travel industry has blackout days like Holi, diwali, Christmas, New Year, school holiday season etc. Travellers need to avoid travel during these days as fares would be higher. Travel agencies have disclosed that for domestic trips, prices have been lower 14-44 days before departure, and the lowest average prices are usually 21 days out.

It does not matter what my circumstances are. I can be as much assured of abiding in Jesus in any one of them as I am in any prayer meeting. It is unnecessary to change and arrange my circumstances myself. Our Lord’s inner abiding was pure and unblemished. He was at home with God wherever His body was. He never chose His own circumstances, but was meek, submitting to His Father’s plans and directions for Him. Just think of how amazingly relaxed our Lord’s life was! But we tend to keep God at a fever pitch in our lives. We have none of the serenity of the life which is “hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).

Think of the things that take you out of the position of abiding in Christ. You say, “Yes, Lord, just a minute— I still have this to do. Yes, I will abide as soon as this is finished, or as soon as this week is over. It will be all right, Lord. I will abide then.” Get moving— begin to abide now. In the initial stages it will be a continual effort to abide, but as you continue, it will become so much a part of your life that you will abide in Him without any conscious effort. Make the determination to abide in Jesus wherever you are now or wherever you may be placed in the future.

Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) affirms stance on present crisis

I

t is extremely unfortunate and shameful for the protracted Naga freedom struggle as treason has once again raised its ugly head in the form some expelled NSCN members. Lately there have been a lot of misapprehension and false conception regarding current problem within the NSCN/GPRN. To better understand the truth, one must view the issue from the right angle and right prospective.

The NSCN/GPRN has already issued a press statement on 12/4/2023 regarding its decision to expel the three party members for antiparty activities. The Naga army under its Commanderin-Chief, Gen. Th.Kumchok and Deputy Commander-inChief, Lt.Gen.Thumching has also issued clarification the same day, denouncing Maj.Gen.Langnyei’s illegal actions and defamatory statement. Hence the false notion of CHQ and GHQ attacking each other is totally out of question. The Naga army is fully intact under the Commander-in-Chief

and Deputy Commanderin-Chief.

Over powering and bribing few weak and corrupt Officers to his side does not validate Langnyei’s wild claim of having full military support. Langnyei’s political gamble and inane chattering at the behest of his Indian paymaster will not change the truth, rather the truth will unfold and he cannot escape the scrutiny of the people. His true colour will be expose sooner or later.

The revered Naga struggle cannot be held hostage and dictated at the whims of Langnyei and his group of renegades.

In spite of the grave mistakes committed by these expelled members, the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga army maintain extreme self-restraint due to the growing concern of the local public and presence of innocent Naga army cadres in GHQ. The NSCN/GPRN deeply appreciates and understands the People’s appeal for peace and tranquillity in the eastern Nagaland.

It was towards that objective, the NSCN/GPRN held consecutive meetings with the Naga cultural and literature Committee, Naga Baptist Convention, Khiamniungan Public Organization, Leinong Mission, Konyak Union Myanmar, Naga Students’ Organization, Eastern Naga Students’ Association, Tangshang Churches, Tangshang Tribes Councils etc.

Hence we are amazed to which Naga CSOs Langnyei is referring to when he accuse the President, Mr.Yung Aung of turning a ‘deaf ear’. It was Yung Aung himself who went against his own conscience and Protocol to convince the Party members in accepting the People’s call for peace.

Upon the Party’s approval, he issued a Public Declaration on 20/5/2023 - for Peace and Reconciliation in the interest of the whole Naga people and the Naga National Struggle.

To expedite the reconciliation process, the NSCN/GPRN entrusted the Naga Students’ Organi-

zation (NSO) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) to lend their good service which they accepted instantaneously.

Instead of responding positively, Langnyei and his gang choose to embarked on a provocative remarks and ultimatum which is not only unacceptable to the NSCN/GPRN but also an open defiance to the genuine call of the people. The Peace mission thus failed due to Langnyei’s arrogant and aggressive nature and the NSCN/GPRN must not be the blame for it.

Does Mr.Langnyei ever know that his bragging in the Media only exposes his political immaturity and ignorance? Did he think that creating a bogus story justify his mistakes? Why did Mr.Langnyei make a false statement that the Naga CSOs had drawn the Tigak river as a boundary line between the CHQ and GHQ? No such understanding takes place and Naga CSOs are witness to all his lies.

In it, it was clearly stated that the ‘The building was not constructed for any particular person. It does not belong to the Angamis in particular. Neither does it belong exclusively to the Kohima people nor to the Christians. It belongs to the Naga people as a whole.’ f) 27 May 1984: 12 individuals claiming to be of the descendants of donors of the Naga club building wrote to the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima requesting for an eviction order against the ‘self style Secretary’ of the then mandated Naga club and the Naga students Federation claiming that they are the original Naga club. g) On 17 July 1984, DC Kohima Convened a meeting of the prominent Naga leaders in Kohima for a meeting to discuss issues relating to Naga Club on 17th August 1984. h) On 17 August 1984, DC Kohima, S Lima Aier ‘dissolved the two parallel Naga club organizations with the condition that ‘the Naga club will be reorganized giving wide publicity to all tribes of Nagas and wide publicity to all the tribes of Nagas and sub-committee was appointed with Mr. Wezhuli Krome as convenor’. It was clearly stated in the order that the re-organization should be completed by 17th September 1984. i) On 26 October 1984, the committee constituted by the DC kohima had a meeting and resolved the following: 1) That, the office bearers of the Naga Club duly elected on 7th January, 1982 was re-elected and shall be legitimate recognized body.

2) That, the tenure of the office shall be 3 (three) calendar years.

3) That, in addition to the existing office bearers, 7 (Seven) Joint secretaries, each representing 1 (one) district of Nagaland, shall man the office of the Naga club. j) With regards to the proposed Building Project, a “Seniors’ Conclave” was convened by NSF on 21.11.2015 at the De Oriental Hotel, Kohima, which constituted a 5-Member Committee, with Mr. Neivor Rutsa as Convenor, and Mr. Lhouvitsu, Mr. Yesonyu Veyie, Mr. Zaku Tsukru and Mr. Z. Lohe. This Committee as entrusted pursued the Plot related issue and in its first meeting held on 06.12.2015 at the residence of Z. Lohe and decided that the Plot is free from all encumbrances and therefore the NSF may go ahead with the Building Project which will house all the Apex Naga organizations under one roof and also provide for the livelihood of the surviving members of the then Naga Club. This was not even in the thought of any other individuals at that point of time. k) It was on 15 July 2017, that the decision was taken to make plans to celebrate 100th Year of Naga Club at the NSF senior consultative Meeting held at Japfu hotel. l) On 5th October 2017 the Executive Council NSF set up a

15 members Naga Club Building Committee with Nivor Rutsa as the convenor of the committee. m) On 9 December 2017, the Federal Assembly held at Mokokchung village hosted by AKM reaffirmed the decision to celebrate the 100th Year of Naga Club and endorsed the then executive council to constitute a committee for the same. n) On 29th June 2018, a 15 Member organizing Committee for ‘100 Year of Naga Club’ was constituted by the NSF Executive. o) On 21st November 2018, A public Declaration was made by 11 ‘concerned senior individuals not representing any organization or body’ after a marathon meeting held at De Oriental Hotel, Kohima wherein it was clearly stated that ‘to undertake all future developments taking the Naga public, especially the NSF, a major stakeholder, into confidence always’. However, to the dismay of NSF, the same was not honored by the Naga Club. p) As the NSF launched the celebration of its 75 years of existence under the theme ‘Call to Oneness’ for all Nagas to come together, this same Naga Club issued ‘notice to vacate the Naga Club building in toto on or before the 27th of August 2022. q) This time around, as the NSF was preparing to hold its General Conference, its office was vandalized, documents destroyed, and its office materials such as computers, furniture, gadgets etc. all damaged. r) On December 13,2022: Daniel Shiu, A Burma Naga brought to public domain, a document entitled ‘The paradox of the Naga Club then and now’ wherein it was written ‘Therefore, going by the Lakhuti resolution of 1955 of the mandated Naga national organization ie, NNC, the Naga club of today should be branded as unlawful and treacherous’.

The rest of the unfortunate events that transpired is in public domain including the criminal act of vandalizing the NSF Oking which is a common Naga heritage site and is a treasure trove of documents pertaining to the Naga people.

The NSF would like to clearly state that it has no intention of antagonizing or confronting any group or individual but will function guided by the fundamental principles that are clearly enshrined in its constitution for Unified Lim and Glory of Nagas by all means and will always remain open to the idea of inclusiveness.

A lot of bold statements were made by Mr. Kuilochalie Seyie, the self proclaimed President of the unrecognized Naga Club, during his recent interview with a prominent regional News channel. He claimed that the unrecognized Naga Club is for all the Nagas while also accusing NSF of never having met them in the last 7 (seven) years.

Both the claim as well as the accusation are baseless and hold no water whatsoever. The Federation would like to refresh his over-used brain by taking his memories back to the time when NSF was planning to celebrate the ‘100 year of Naga Club’.

It was through the meetings between some members of the Ad-hoc Naga Club and the then officials of NSF on several occasions that the proposal to organize the occasion together was mooted. After due consultations with the stakeholders, the NSF officials met the then Chairman of the Ad-hoc Naga Club Mr. Krurovi Peseyie in the month of March at his residence in Jotsoma where he clearly mentioned that Naga Club will celebrate only for the tribes of Nagaland State. It was due to this stark contrast in the concepts of celebrating the occasion that the Ad-hoc Naga Club and NSF could not organize the occasion.

With the facts placed before the public, how can he claim that the Ad-hoc Naga club is for the entire Nagas without borders and that NSF had never met them? The audacity of Mr. Kuolochalie Seyie to mislead the Naga people through lies is unfortunate.

The main accusation as per their ‘notice to vacate’ was ‘that your esteemed organization has paid Rs. 500/- (five hundred only) in rent for the month of April 1983 on 07.04.1983 after which you have never paid our Naga Club house rent from May 1983 till date’. But how do NSF pay rent to an organization from May 1983 till whichever date to an organization which was formed only in 2017/18?

The NSF reiterates that the Naga club belongs to all the Naga people and that no individual or group can claim ownership of the same. The Naga issue, the Naga political history and the resulting rights of the Naga people cannot be owned nor inherited by some individuals.

The NSF has always been honoring our ancestors who laid the foundation of the Naga nationhood, for which NSF is a proud descendent, however, the present Naga Club which is not recognized by the Naga people was formed suddenly in 2017/18 with ulterior motives to hijack a certain planned celebration of the NSF which was not even in their thoughts then.

The NSF is uncompromisingly of the view that the Present Naga club is unmandated and that the Naga people as a whole should decide the relevance of its existence in the present context and that a proper Naga Club should be re-constituted, based on the foundation of the Memorandum that was submitted to the Simon Commission in 1929.

Henceforth, the Naga Students’ Federation and the All Nagaland college Students’ Union (ANCSU) shall resume its normal functioning at its Oking, Naga Club building.

Nevertheless, with God and the Naga general public as our witness, we leave the matter to the best wisdom of the Nagas and the APO as the messenger of Peace to uphold the legacy of the Naga club and bring the Naga people together in the true spirit of the memorandum submitted to the Simon commission by the Naga Club in 1929.

On 13/6/2023, they came and attack the Naga Ar my while they were temporarily stationed at Chen Loiyi village. They indiscriminately fired lethod bombs into the public area but the Naga Army did not retaliate as to avoid collateral damage. Luckily, no one was hurt in the attack.

Today, the limit of tolerance has reached its zenith. The silent of the NSCN/GPRN must not be interpreted as our weakness. No more restraint will be shown. The NSCN/GP RN stands ready to face the eventuality that may harm the revere peoples’ struggle come how dark and ugly it may be.

The end game of NSCN (IM)…(Muivahs’ Gang) (From previous issue) The ‘end game’ of our scheming Southern brother does not end here. They want to ensure that GoI concedes to their demand for PAN NAGA HOHO…for what purpose?

Is emotional integration their true purpose? The real reason in their scheme of things is to continue controlling the Nagas of Nagaland even in the postsolution era.

The Tangkhul brothers envisages a Bi-cameral setup…

Upper House- Lower House (Rajaya Sabha/ Lok Sabha equivalent) for their so-called ‘Naga Nation’ where the ‘Lower House’ will house the Elected Representatives while the ‘Upper House’ would consist of Members nominated by the PAN NAGA HOHO that they will control in the like manner of their redundant ‘Naga Haha’ of today.

The working dynamics so craftily designed in this set up is that no matter what Bills are proposed by the ‘Lower House’, such Bills cannot become an ACT/ LAW without the approval of the ‘Upper House’ which would consist of puppet members nominated by PAN NAGA HOHO. This diabolic plan of wanting to control the lives of the Nagas of Nagaland in the post solution era is a firsthand knowledge acquired from one of the Tangkhul king pins in the NSCN (IM) set up.

This is a real plan of our Tangkhul brothers in the NSCN (IM)…and believe me…this is not a joke!!! I dare NSCN (IM) to deny this fact! Is it not clearly apparent to the Nagas of Nagaland as to why NSCN (IM) is extremely reluctant to transparently disclose their “COMPETENCEY CLAUSES” that they have been negotiating with the GoI all this while???? Is the present Naga generation of Nagaland so desperately devoid of courage to perceive and collectively stand up for what we believe to be the right thing to do…rather than succumb to the dictates of one single human being called Muivah who had publically disavowed “Sovereignty” and “Integration” but now demanding “Naga Flag” and “Naga Yezahbo” for the Naga Nation? I have said this before and I am saying it again…NO INDEPENDENT NATION SEEKS PERMISSION FROM ANOTHER INDEPENDENT NATIONS FOR THEIR NATIONAL FLAG AND THEIR CONSTITUTION! The ‘Flag’ and the ‘Constitution’ is a natural independent protocol of an Independent Nation that does not require any permission from any other Nation. Period!

Yet here we are…the so-called “Sovereignty” of the NSCN (IM) requires the permission of the GoI to have a “Naga

Flag” and a “Naga Yezahbo”… for their delusional “Sovereign Naga Nation”…for which the talks has run into a road block… and we the fearful stakeholders have nothing to say.

In all of this…it is getting clearer by the day that both Mr. Rio and Mr. Muivah do not want the final solution to happen. In the case of Mr. Muivah, who probably perceives himself to be the “Father of the Nation”, will find no place in his so-called “Naga Nation” without Integration and therefore the only other place he could go is that small little hole called the “Autonomous Regional Territorial Council” in the hills of Manipur…that is if his own people would accept him after he is ‘gun-less’, and that too without the commensurate unquestioned authority that he commands today.

It seems obvious that he would rather prefer to die in harness with all the pomp and authority that he enjoys at this point in time rather than fade into oblivion in the post solution era.

As for Mr. Rio….he too seems to be head over heels in love with the Chief Minister’s Chair for obvious intent…but would have to part with it if the post solution period begins.

So why hurry huh? Otherwise…with the anti-Constitutional issue of “Sovereignty” out of the equation…if he had a true honest intent of wanting a solution… he has the full Government machinery at his command to build up a real united public opinion and momentum for the GoI to sit up and take notice…a long time ago… rather than conveniently hide behind the “role of a facilitator, facilitating nothing”.

Finally, in the case of our gun toting Southern brothers, perhaps they should seriously consider the possibility that taking the Nagas of Nagaland for granted so persistently for so long with all their demonic secrecy could be counterproductive.

A time could very well come when push comes to a shove, history could repeat itself where ‘quit notice’ could well be served to them once again for their lack of trust and transparency in dealing with our future…giving them the liberty to implement their competency clauses in their own territory in Manipur…but not in Nagaland.

Anyway, fellow Nagas tighten your seat belts…we are in for a loooooong haul because all of us have misplaced our courage to stand up for our rights!

We the Nagas have been trying to go forward on a back gear and perhaps we are soon about to reach the station called: “Solution? What Solution?”

MP Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit president VD Sharma said 2,500 leaders of the party from various states will attend this event.

“The prime minister will reach Bhopal on June 27 and flag off Vande Bharat Express. He will address BJP workers from 10 lakh booths across the country virtually,” said Sharma, the Lok Sabha member from Khajuraho.

“The cyclone is nearly 290 km away from Kutch at present. As a precautionary measure, we have already shifted nearly 50,000 people living in coastal areas to temporary shelters. The evacuation process is still on and the remaining 5,000 persons will be shifted by

this evening to safer places” said State Commissioner of Relief, Alok Kumar Pandey.

Of the 50,000-odd evacuees, nearly 18,000 people were shifted to shelters in Kutch district while others were evacuated from Junagadh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Morbi and Rajkot, Pandey told reporters in Gandhinagar.

He said 18 teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), 12 teams of SDRF (State Disaster Re-

sponse Force), 115 teams of state road and building department, and 397 teams of the state electricity department have been deployed in different coastal districts.

“Officials of departments of Electricity and Road & Building have also reached designated spots to restore connectivity and power supply. We have also deployed teams carrying HAM Radio sets and satellite phones in the coastal region for better communication,” said Pandey.

NEW DELHI, JUN 14 (PTI): Railways will start operating Vande Bharat trains on five more routes from June 26, the first launch after the three-train accident in Odisha on June 2 that claimed 288 lives.

Pakistani drone recovered in Punjab

AMRITSAR, JUN 14 (PTI): A Pakistani drone was recovered by a joint team of the BSF and the Punjab police at a village in the state’s Tarn Taran district on Wednesday, officials said.

This is the third recovery of a Pakistani drone in less than a week.

The latest recovery -- a DJI Matrice 300 RTK series drone -- was made from a field in Dall village, the officials said.

“Yet another Pakistani drone was recovered by the joint efforts of BSF and Punjab police,” said a BSF official. Police said a case has been registered in this regard at Khalra police station.

AHMEDABAD, JUN 14 (PTI): A tremor of 3.5 magnitude was recorded in Gujarat’s Kutch district on Wednesday evening at a time when cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is approaching the coast in the region, officials said.

No damage to property or life was reported.

The tremor was recorded at 5:05 PM at a distance of 5 km West South West (WSW) of Bhachau in Kutch district, the Institute of Seismological Research at Gandhinagar said in its update. The powerful cyclone is very likely to cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts and make landfall near Jakhau Port in Kutch by June 15 evening, according to Met department.

NEW DELHI, JUN 14 (AGENCIES): Reser ve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das was awarded the “Governor of the Year” at the Central Banking Awards 2023 in London. Central Banking is a London-based international economic research journal.

According to Business Standard, Das is the second RBI governor to receive the award after Raghuram Rajan, who was given the title in 2015. Das “cemented critical reforms, overseen world-leading payments innovation, and steered India through difficult times with a steady hand and wellcrafted turn of phrase”, the organisers of the award said.

Trump, 77, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to 37 federal felony counts related to his mishandling of classified documents at the federal courthouse in Miami, Florida.

This indictment is the second criminal case filed against Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s nomination in the 2024 presidential election. In early April, Trump surrendered to authorities in New York and appeared in state court to face 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.

ATHENS, JUN 14 (AP): At least 78 people have died and dozens are feared missing off the coast of southern Greece after a fishing boat carrying migrants capsized and sank, authorities said Wednesday.

KYIV, JUN 14 (AP): Russian forces fired cruise missiles at the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa and shelled the eastern Donetsk region early on Wednesday, killing at least six people and damaging dozens of homes, regional Ukrainian officials said.

WASHINGTON, JUN 14 (PTI): Donald Trump can continue his campaign for another term in the White House even as the beleaguered former US president has been indicted for illegally retaining classified government documents after leaving office in 2021.

Trump, 77, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to 37 federal felony counts related to his mishandling of classified documents at the federal courthouse in Miami, Florida.

It marks the first time federal charges have been brought against a former president. This indictment is the second criminal case filed against Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s nomination in the 2024 presidential election. In early April, Trump surrendered to authorities in New York and appeared in state court to face 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges also.

Nagaland celebrates ‘World Blood Donor Day’

DIMAPUR: Nagaland joined the world in celebrating the “World Blood Donor Day” under the global 2023 theme, “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often,” on Wednesday.

The day aims to celebrate and thank the voluntary blood donors around the world for their “gift of blood”, sensitise the people on the importance of blood donation, and encourage more people to become new donors.

Kohima: Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association, Kohima, and Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) jointly celebrated the “World Blood Donor Day” Wednesday at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW).

Special guest of the programme, DoH&FW, principal director, Dr. Vibeituonuo M. Sachu said the day provides an opportunity to celebrate and thank the voluntary blood donors across the world.

She said in many countries, blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety. Dr. Sachu said the theme also highlights the importance of giving blood or plasma regularly to create a safe and sustainable supply of blood and blood products that can be always available, so that all patients in need could receive timely treatment.

She also appealed to all present to get tested for their blood group so that they could donate anytime during an emergency or distress through mobile blood banks.

Delivering a keynote address, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) project director, Dr. Akuo Sorhie highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation to save lives.

She said voluntary blood donation was vital for all patients including those

who require lifelong and regular transfusions.

Dr. Sorhie said voluntary plasma donation plays a major role in supporting patients with wide range of long-term conditions such as haemophilia and immune deficiencies.

Underscoring the importance of celebrating the day and extensively disseminating the message of importance of voluntary blood donation, she said the need of the hour now was to make Naga people aware of the facts and myths regarding blood donation since there was still so much fear, ignorance, and misconceptions associated with blood donation. She then suggested aggressive intervention to educate and change the mindset of the citizens.

“Voluntary blood donors are the best motivators

and inspiration to those who are healthy but yet to register or join this mission of saving lives- through your stories,” said Dr. Sorhie.

Commandant Officer, Kohima Battalion (Bn), Assam Rifles (AR), Col. SSB Sharma said there was a huge requirement of blood everywhere and that timely intervention for blood donation could save multiple lives. Sharma informed that 117 blood donors from Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles had donated blood in the last two years and that the battalion continues to donate blood. He then requested the public to volunteer and donate blood to save lives.

Portable LNP inaugurated at Vety. Hospital Mokokchung

DIMAPUR: A Portable Liquid Nitrogen Plant (LNP) implemented by the Nagaland Livestock Development Board (NLDB) under Rastriya Gokul Mission was inaugurated at Veterinary Hospital Complex, Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung by commissioner and secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Ser vices (DoAH&VS), Vikeyie Kenya on Wednesday.

According to a DIPR report, while addressing the gathering, Kenya said the plant would not only cater to the needs of the livestock farmers of the district but also from neighboring districts. He encouraged the staffs to take ownership of the plant through proper maintenance.

Despite being one of the oldest departments in the state, Kenya lamented that the public were not aware of the departmental activities. Therefore, he urged the officers and staffs to properly document the department activities and sensitise the public on the availability of technical assistance of the department.

Delivering the keynote address, joint director DoAH&VS, Dr. K. Gwirie regretted that though India has been producing the highest milk in the world since 1998, Nagaland was still deficit in milk production.

To bring about a desirable change by strengthen-

ing the cattle and buffalo breeding activities in the state and rise in productivity level, he said the centrally sponsored scheme, Rastriya Gokul Mission envisaged to radically improve the bovine population under organized breeding network.

Dr. Gwirie said the project would improve bovine population through strengthening and making optimum capacity utilization of institutional infrastructure for which LNP was the backbone of all Artificial Insemination (AI) activities.

Delivering a shor t speech on behalf of NLDB, managing director NLDB, Dr. Achila Ao, highlighted the basic working procedure of the plant and its utilization. She also urged the officers and staffs to judiciously make use of the plant so that it would benefit the people.

Chairperson of the programme, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) Mokokchung, Dr. B.M Sunep the LNP plant would assist in carrying out AI to full capacity thus increasing the breeding quality and increase in productivity. Stating that the prosperity of the people lies in cattle, he encouraged the people to take up livestock farming and also to avail the institutional infrastructures provided by the department.

DIMAPUR, JUN 14 (NPN): As part of global celebration of “Olympic Day”, the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) will be organising “Olympic Day Run” The event, themed “Let’s Move, Learn, Discover, Together For a Better World” on June 24 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

The following running races will be held as part of the event: 30 Meters – 4 years and above – below 6 years (born after June 1, 2017); 50 Meters – 6 years and above – below 9 years (born after June 1, 2014); 80 Meters – 9 years and above – below 13 years (born after June 1, 2010) and 100 meters -13 years and above – below 16 years (born after June 1, 2007).

Participants will receive their Bib numbers on June 24 between 8 am – 8:30 am at the venue, IG Stadium, Kohima. The races will commence from 9 am onwards, according to the respective categories. Refreshments will be provided to all the participants. All participants are requested to arrive at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima by 8 am on June 24. The registration process is ongoing and open

MEDELLIN (COLOMBIA), JUN 14 (IANS): The 16-year-old debutant Aditi Gopichand Swamy broke the Under 18 compound world record to top the women’s qualification round in the third stage of the Archery World Cup, here.

The Indian teenager topped the compound women’s field with 711 points in the 72-arrow 50-meter qualification on Tuesday to beat the previous best of 705, set by USA’s Liko Arreola in May. Aditi finished the qualifications ahead of stage one winner and compatriot Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and home favourite Sara Lopez.

“I feel amazing. I am very happy. I didn’t expect that I was going to shoot like that and that score, but now I’m very happy with that score because I’m only 16 years old,” Aditi told World Archery.

Jyothi, who equaled the world record score in the women’s compound event qualification round at the Archery World Cup 2023 stage 1 in Antalya,

Aditi Gopichand Swamy finished second in the qualification round with 708.

Parneet Kaur placed sixth with 700 points.

The Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi, Aditi and Parneet topped the seedings with 2119 points in the qualifications, just one point off the world record set by Korea last week in Singapore.

In the men’s compound qualifiers, former World Cup champion Abhishek Verma, competing in his first archery World Cup of the year, was the

best-placed Indian in eighth place with a score of 707.

In the compound mixed team, Abhishek and Aditi combined for 1418, topping the qualifications ahead of the Colombians and Danes. Ojas Pravin Deotale finished 13th with 703 and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar finished 19th with 702. Rajat Chauhan, with 698 placed 28th.

C o m p o u n d m e n’s team of Abhishek, Ojas and Prathamesh had to settle for the second seed with 2112 points.

M A D R I D, J U N 1 4 (IANS): Real Madrid C. F. have completed the signing of English midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year deal, the La Liga club announced on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who is a regular starter in the England national team, arrived at Madrid after being voted the best player for 2022/23 in the German professional league Bundesliga.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Jude Bellingham, who will be contracted to our club for the next six seasons,” the club said in a statement.

The Spanish club didn’t specify the transfer fee, but it is estimated to be over 100m Euros deal along with performancerelated variables spread.

About Bellingham’s presentation ceremony, the club said: “Bellingham will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player tomorrow, Thursday 15 June, at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City. Following this, Jude Bellingham will speak to

Bellingham joined Carlo Ancelotti’s squad after three seasons in Germany. Recently, he recorded his best campaign for Borussia Dortmund in terms of goals with 14 goals in all competitions.

He also played in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was on the scoresheet.

DIMAPUR: Nagaland inter-college basketball tournament kicked off on Wednesday at the JV Rise Basketball Court, Dimapur.

The event is being sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, and hosted by the Dimapur District Basketball Association (DDBA).

In women’s category, Kohima Science College beat Unity College while Sazolie College Kohima defeated Tetso College Dimapur.

In the men’s category, NIT Dimapur beat St Joseph University; Oriental College Kohima overpowered Sazolie College and SASRD Medziphema defeated Kohima Science College.

10 colleges in the men’s category and four colleges in the women’s category are taking part in the tournament.

The first leg of matches will be league round, and thereafter the qualifying teams will contest in the knockout rounds.

The finals are slated to be played on June 16.

NEW DELHI, JUN 14 (IANS): Investigators in the wrestlers’ case will soon submit chats, videos and statements of over 150 witnesses in court, a Delhi Police source said on Wednesday.

According to the source, police have collected several videos, including the CCTV footage of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) office.

Earlier, the police had reached out to five foreign wrestling federations, seeking information, as several wrestlers have alleged harassment during tournaments abroad. They are currently awaiting responses from these federations.

As for the charge sheet filed by police, officials said

that Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has reviewed the progress of the investigation and given approval to proceed.

“The investigating officer will now conclude the necessary procedures and

submit the reports to the Rouse Avenue Court,” said the official.

In April, Delhi Police registered two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) against the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan

Singh, based on sexual harassment allegations.

The first FIR pertains to the accusations made by a minor and has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along

with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning the act of outraging modesty.

The second FIR focuses on comprehensive investigations into the complaints made by adult complainants and involves relevant sections of the IPC related to outraging of modesty.

The father of the minor wrestler involved in the case has stepped forward and claimed that he filed a “false” complaint of sexual harassment against the chief.

The father alleges that his actions were driven by anger and frustration over the chief ’s perceived biased treatment towards his daughter.

Shardul Thakur and Ajinkya Rahane DUBAI, JUN 14 (IANS): Veteran middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane and fastbowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur made gains in the latest ICC Test Rankings, released on Wednesday with Australian batters getting a rare achievement by occupying top three places in batting charts.

Rahane’s scores of 89 and 46 in the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval, which also saw him make his comeback to the Indian team, see him return to the rankings in 37th position while Thakur, who

made 51 in first innings, has moved up six places to 94th position.

In the rare occurrence, Steve Smith and Travis Head join top-ranked Marnus Labuschagne in top three batting positions following their centuries, which helped Australia beat India by 209 runs in the WTC Final.

BERLIN, JUN 14 (IANS): China’s rising star Wu Yibing notched the first win on grass in his pro-career by defeating eighth seed Nick Kyrgios of Australia on Tuesday at ATP250 Stuttgart Boss Open in Germany.

As the first ATP title winner from the Chinese mainland, Wu played his first pro match on grass against Kyrgios. The relative inexperience on the surface did not stop the Chinese from grabbing an impressive opening win over Kyrgios 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Stuttgart tournament, reports Xinhua.

“The last time I played on grass was juniors back in 2017, so six years,” said 23-year-old Wu after his victory. “I was really happy to play Nick in the first round.

He’s one of the best players on grass and he served well.

He aced me many times. The key for me was to stay cool, stay patient in the game and find a way.”
