IMPHAL, JUN 13: In a shocking incident, a section of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel deployed in Manipur to maintain law and order, reportedly went on a rampage vandalising vehicles parked along the road side in Imphal West.

As per reports, the vandalism, which was captured on camera (CCTV) took place at around 2.30 a.m.

Tuesday. In the CCTV footage, several RAF personnel could be seen smashing vehicles with stones and canes.

As many as 12 four-wheelers parked along the road were damaged, while windows of several houses along the stretch were shattered as a result of stone pelting by RAF personnel.

was reported that the RAF personnel resorted to firing teargas shells in order to disperse some womenfolk who were on night vigil to block movement of the Central security forces, accusing them of being biased.

Denouncing the act, large number of womenfolk Tuesday staged protests at various places along NH-102 from Yaiskul to Singjamei.

Expressing serious concern about the actions of RAF personnel, local residents pointed out that the RAF personnel instead of safe-

guarding them and their properties, rather resorted to vandalism. The residents demanded legal action against the erring RAF personnel.

It was learnt that two RAF personnel were reportedly suspended on Tuesday, following the incident.

Meanwhile, curfew relaxation period in Imphal was shortened by two hours on Tuesday as fresh tension prevailed after RAF personnel went on rampage on the streets. The curfew which was enforced till 8 p.m. was cut short to 6 p.m.

At least 10 political parties in Manipur on Tuesday demanded a special assembly session to discuss the present crisis in Manipur.

A delegation of the 10 political parties-- Congress, JD(U), CPI, CPI (Marxist); All India Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party; All India Forward Bloc; Nationalist Congress Party; Shiv Sena (UBT), and Revolutionary Socialist Party, Manipur called on Manipur governor and submitted the memorandum urging the latter to convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in order to discuss the present crisis.

Addressing the media after the meeting Governor, senior Congress leader and former chief minister O Ibobi Singh said that the delegation urged upon the Governor to summon a special session of the state Assem-

bly at the earliest. “It is the need of the hour,” he said.

Ibobi said that the recent visit of Union home minister Amit Shaht to Manipur was purposeless. He had just announced a few packages for relief rather than bringing a solution to the present unrest in the state, he added.

JD(U) Manipur unit leader Dr Nimaichan Luwang also said that the 10 like-minded political parties have come together to seek an appointment with the Prime Minister.

The JD (U) also leader slammed the Centre’s Peace Committee, alleging that it was not following any conventional process. He said that many were opposed to the panel as the members inducted were not consulted before constituting the committee. It would be a futile initiative of the government, he said.

All vehicular movement on NH702 suspended

DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): Longleng district administration has suspended all forms of vehicular and public movement along NH-702 stretch till further order.

According to DPRO Longleng, the ban has been imposed in order to clear the obstructing soil and rock debris resulting from rock-slide affecting the traffic movement about 2km from Changtongya towards Longleng along NH-702.

The ban order has come into effect from June 13, 2023.

(NPN): Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio has called on the Administrative Heads of Departments AHoDs and Heads of Departments to adopt good governance practices and ensure better delivery of public services.

Addressing a meeting of AHoDs and HoDs at the secretariat conference hall, Kohima Tuesday, Rio noted that the government employees have the opportunity to serve the people in various capacities and therefore urged upon them to take it as a privilege to work for the welfare and development of Nagaland.

He called for cooperation and coordination among all the departments and sought sincere commitment from government officials.

Rio also emphasised that all Central-Sponsored Schemes (CSS) should be implemented in a time-bound manner and called on the DCs to take equal responsibility for

successful implementation of the CSSs in their respective districts. He also directed AHoDs and HoDs to constantly monitor the progress of all the schemes being implemented through their respective departments and ensure timely completion.

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Tuesday informed that it has withdrawn the FIR lodged with police pertaining to the vandalism of its office at Naga Club building with immediate effect. Informing this in a statement, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Siipuni Ng Philo said that the federation, after due consultations with seniors, federating units and sub-ordinate bodies decided to withdraw the FIR with immediate effect.

DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over North East region during next the five days. In its daily bulletin, IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from June 14-17.

Addressing the media in Delhi, IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the cyclone, however, helped monsoon advance over southern parts of peninsula by increasing the cross-equatorial flow over the Arabian Sea. “Now, it is completely detached from the monsoonal flow. We do not expect any largescale impact either on the monsoon advance or its performance,” he said.

Naga public in Myanmar threaten to declare non-cooperation on NSCN (K) DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): Even as fresh exchange of fire was reported between members of NSCN (K) stationed at CHQ and those at GHQ in Chen Loiye village in the wee hours on June 13 between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., Naga Students’ Organization (NSO) and Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) Tuesday threatened that Naga public would be compelled to declare non-cooperation on the group if they failed to adhere to appeal for peace and reconciliation.

In a joint statement, NSO and ENSA stated that despite Naga public’s appeal to members of both the par-

ties of NSCN (K) to exercise restraint and avoid getting too close, there was another exchange of fire.

They said that Eastern Naga people were “saddened and disheartened” after the recent peace and reconciliation mission failed to bear its fruit, which they had initiated along with Naga Culture, Tradition and Literature Committee Centre, Naga Baptist Convention and particularly Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) from April 24 to May 30, 2023.

The two student bodies said they had restraint themselves from going to the press till date as the

house considered as “a family issue” the present internal crisis within NSCN(K) and made every possible effort to peacefully resolve the “internal mess”, but has “unfortunately failed.”

However, NSO and ENSA said that Naga people would continue to strive for peace and normalcy in the region. They said that Naga people have had enough of “factional war, killing among brothers” rather than uniting to drive out common enemy.

The two bodies have, therefore, called upon all responsible not to give “another space for war within ourselves.” NSO and ENSA

recalled that innocent lives of the Naga army were lost during the first infighting that occurred at a place between Chuisu and Nyanching village on June 5, 2023 at around 2:30 pm.

In this regard, the two bodies said that Naga people have every right to question the NSCN (K) who would pay the price of this war and the lives of innocent Naga army who had laid down their lives in vain for the wrong cause.

They said that Naga people cannot consider any life that could be lost in today’s internal crisis as “a sacrifice made for the Naga National cause.”

Strongly condemning the firing in the vicinity of village, NSO and ENSA said that firing had forced the innocent villagers to flee their homes for no fault of theirs.

They also questioned all the Naga army personnel on the ground whether innocent Naga public deserved such sufferings? “We cannot trust any government that lay astray from the National principles to side away with personal egos and personal interest and thus disregarding the people’s aspiration which cannot be accepted in today’s generation,” the two bodies asserted.

Due to the present crisis, they said the educational institutions mainly in Konyak areas had been disturbed and the students in the villages were sitting hopelessly while the rest of the Naga areas the schools were going on in full swing. “Does the student community deserve these sufferings? We have too many questions to raise, no government shall fool the people anymore,” they stated.

In the light of the above, NSO and ENSA along with Naga public con-

veyed to both the parties of the NSCN/GPRN (K) that the people strongly affirmed “one government, one tax”.

They affirmed that no partition or formation of new Naga army faction would be allowed in Eastern Nagaland, Myanmar.

The bodies resolved that no factional clashes/ firing would be allowed to take place in public places like village premises, paddy fields, public routes etc.

DIMAPUR: An interaction on the “issues faced by domestic workers and their demands” was organised by the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region in collaboration with Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) and All Nagaland Domestic Workers Union (ANDWU) on June 13 at ACID

Hall, Dimapur.

A press release by ACID informed that the interaction was part of the “International Domestic Workers Day” campaign, wherein issues of domestic workers and their demands were highlighted.

On behalf of domestic workers, coordinator NDWM Nagaland Region, Sr. Pramila put up three de-

mands as following - minimum wages for domestic workers; include domestic workers in the schedule of employment and respect domestic workers work as work and declare employers’ home as work place During the interaction, Adv. Priya explained the difference between a home maker and a domestic worker while Sr. Pramila highlighted the plights of domestic workers.

The exploitation, inhumane treatment, mental and physical abuses of domestic workers in their place of work were also highlighted during the meeting. The domestic workers also expressed their grievances and called for justice and equal treatment.

Dimapur police recover unidentified body DIMAPUR: Dimapur police has informed that an unidentified body of a non-local male age around 60 years was recovered on June 11.

A press release by Dimapur police PRO stated that the dead body, wearing blue, red and yellow coloured checked long shirt and brown coloured long pant, was found lying opposite below Flyover Blue Hill Station near PAB Dimapur.

PRO said inquest was conducted over the dead body and no any foul play could be established. On completion of all legal formalities, PRO informed that the dead body was shifted to District Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Further, PRO has requested claimant/relatives/friends of the deceased to contact the Officer-in-Charge, East Police Station, Dimapur at 7085055020.

D I M A P U R : To r a i s e awareness on the issue of child labour, District Child Protection Units (DCPUs), Department of Social Welfare (DoSW) Nagaland, observed the “World Day Against Child Labour” on June 12 across the state under the global 2023 theme, “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour!”.

A press release by the department informed that 11 DCPUs under Mission Vatsalya Nagaland observed the day by organising various events such painting competitions, awareness talk, poster campaign and other activities.

The day was observed in Zunheboto, Mon, Wokha, Phek, Kiphire, Dimapur, Peren, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung and Tuensang districts.

The department said India is one of the countries with the largest number of child labourers in the world. As per the International Labour Organization (ILO) data, India is home to 5.8 million child Labourers between

the ages 5-17. It said there was a growing demand of children being used as domestic workers especially in urban areas where the conditions in which children work are completely unregulated.

The department said there are several recorded cases of abuses such as physical, sexual and emotional abuse of child domestic workers even in Nagaland state.

1,040 arms recovered by security forces in Manipur 230 LIVE BOMBS OF DIFFERENT TYPES HAVE ALSO BEEN RECOVERED

IMPHAL, JUN 13 (IANS): Altogether 1,040 sophisticated arms and 13,601 pieces of ammunition of different kinds have been recovered out of thousands of weapons looted by mobs, and extremists from the security forces after the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the officials, along with the arms and ammunition, 230 live bombs of different types have so far been recovered after the Army, various Central Armed Police Force, Manipur Rifles, and police launched state wide combing operation.

Va r i o u s r e p o r t s claimed that thousands of different types of sophisticated arms and large quantities of ammunition were looted by mobs from police stations and security camps after the riots broke out.

To flush out the militants and their hideouts,

the Army and other central forces continued their counter-insurgency operation and to avoid mistrust, ‘executive magistrates’ will accompany the forces during the operations.

M a n i p u r g ove r n ment’s Advisor (Security) Kuldiep Singh said that curfew was relaxed for 15 hours in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts, 12 hours in Kakching and Pherzawl districts and 8 to 10 hours in other districts.

There is no curfew in six hill districts.

He said that movement of a large number of vehicles carrying essential items, food grains, life saving drugs, transport fuel along Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH37) was ensured.

Senior officers have visited and are camping in vulnerable areas. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable areas while a combined team of state and Central forces

have intensified combing operations in many parts of the state, he said.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited relief camps at Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and interacted with the residents.

She also held meetings with civil society organisations (CSOs) in both the districts.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh chaired a meeting of the Superintendents of Police and other police officials and reviewed the overall situation of all the 16 districts through videoconferencing.

State Ministers and MLAs are visiting different areas of state and appealing for peace and normalcy by meeting the public at large and CSOs. Security forces are also organising meetings with CSOs, village heads of different villages and making appeals for peace and normalcy, besides doing their duties of area domination, and patrols.

Nine more injured in gunfight Moderate quake Gauhati HC gives clean chit to in Manipur, no Mahanta in secret killings case in strife-torn Manipur damage reported IMPHAL, JUN 13 (PTI): Nine more people were injured in a gunfight in Khamenlok area in Imphal East district in strife-torn Manipur as the exchange of fire between militants and village volunteers continued till late on Monday night, police said.

Initially, three casualties were reported, but the number mounted as the gun-battle continued before both sides withdrew, a police officer said.

The village volunteers also burnt a few makeshift bunkers and a watch-tower built by the militants, he said. The area lies along the borders of Meitei-dominated Imphal East district and tribal-majority Kangpokpi district.

The injured have been admitted to local hospitals, where the condition of one injured person is stated to be critical while others are out of danger, authorities of the medical establishments said.

Security forces have been deployed in the area in large numbers to prevent further outbreak of violence and to carry out area domination exercises.

Heavy firing between

village volunteers and militants erupted in the area on Monday. No major incident was reported in the area for three days before that.

In another incident, a militant was killed and two others were injured in a gunbattle with security forces in Govindpur village in Bishnupur district, he said.

The militants were trying to construct bunkers around villages when security forces challenged them, resulting in the gun-battle, the officer said.

At least 100 people lost their lives and 310 others were injured in the ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki community people in Manipur that broke out a month ago. Army and paramilitary personnel were deployed to restore peace in the state.

Curfew remains in force in 11 of the 16 districts of Manipur, while internet services are suspended in the entire northeastern state.

Clashes first broke out on May 3 after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

IMPHAL, JUNE 13 (IANS): A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter Scale hit Manipur’s mountainous Ukhrul areas bordering Myanmar on Tuesday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

The NCS said that the tremor was felt in the hilly areas in northeastern Ukhrul district and adjoining areas, which shares a border with Myanmar.

The quake, which struck at a depth of 10 km from the surface, caused panic among the residents who rushed out of their homes.

There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property.

GUWAHATI, JUN 13 ( AGENCIES): The Gauhati High Court gave a clean chit to former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta in the ‘secret killings’ case on June 11, reports Pratidin Time.

The high court upheld its previous verdict and has now given its final verdict into the case. Gauhati HC held that the accusations against Prafulla Mahanta were part of a conspiracy by several politicians and political parties in a bid to hamper his image. Meanwhile, addressing the media after the court’s order, the former Assam Chief Minister welcomed the decision and expressed his happiness.

Meanwhile, the court also pulled up Ajit Bhuyan and Ananta Kalita for failing to provide substantial proof to their claims, even after more than 531 days of filing an interlocutory application under Section 5 of the Limitation Act against the final order made by the Single Bench at the Gauhati High Court on September 3, 2018.

It may be noted that the secret killings of Assam were a series of assassinations when relatives, friends, and sympathisers of ULFA insurgents were systematically killed by unknown assailants. These extra-judicial murders took place in Assam between 1998 and 2001.

GUWAHATI, JUN 13 (PTI): Guwahati railway station has been awarded ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) for providing highquality and nutritious food to passengers.

The station is the first under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to get the status for a period of two years from June 2, 2023, a NFR release said here on Tuesday. NFR said efforts are on to bring more stations such as Rangiya, Lumding, Tinsukia, Alipurduar Jn. and Katihar in the ‘Eat Right Station’ category. The certification is part of the ‘Eat Right India’ movement, a large-scale effort by FSSAI to transform the country’s food system to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians, the release added.

SHILLONG, JUN 13: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly on Tuesday issued show cause notices to several revenue loss departments and sought replies within a week on the reason for the departments incurring loss.

PA C C h a i r m a n Saleng Sangma said that Principal Secretaries of the loss-making departments have been issued the notices seeking their replies on the losses.

“The taxation department has incurred a loss of Rs 89 lakh while the excise department has incurred a loss amounting to Rs 57.83 crore. Some of the departments issued notices were revenue, transport, and others,” Sangma said.

“Similar losses have

been incurred by other departments and therefore the Principal Secretaries of those departments have been asked to explain the reason for the losses and how to stop such loss in future,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PAC also inquired from the power department why consumers were still being billed, somewhat the same amount, in their electricity bill despite the long duration of load-shedding.

Several consumers are complaining that despite the power cuts, the electricity bill amount remained unchanged.

“Since there are power cuts people logically should be getting electricity bills with reduced amounts compared to the pre-load shedding time,” Sangma, who is also opposition Congress Chief Whip, said.

SHILLONG, JUNE 13 (IANS): The Meghalaya High Court has asked the state administration to take action against individuals who are running illegal coal businesses.

A petition in the court on this issue claimed that those who are actually running the illegal coal businesses in Meghalaya are based in Assam. They are well-known people and are roaming freely in Guwahati.

Several Benami transactions have also come to light.

Quoting points from the petition, the three judges’ bench of the Meghalaya High Court said: “It is hoped that the state police take necessary steps in accordance with the law and as expeditiously as possible.

A further report may be filed by the DGP when the matter appears in the next

three weeks.” The court also quoted an interim report filed by Justice Katakey on illegal coal business in Meghalaya. “According to the report, there are 13 coke oven plants in operation in the East Jaintia Hills and 38 further coke oven plants that are not in opearation.

South West Khasi Hills there are two and six coke oven plants, respectively which are not in operation.

In West Khasi Hills District there are four coke oven plants in operation and 61 others not in operation. In addition, there is one ferro alloy plant operation in the West Khasi Hills District.

BHUBANESWAR, JUN 13 (IANS): The toll in the tragic triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore on Tuesday rose to 289 with the death of a man from Bihar while undergoing treatment, an official said. Bijay Paswan, from Bihar’s Motihari district, succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Paswan, along with six others, had boarded the Coromandel Express on June 2 from Howrah to visit Kerala’s Palakkad.

While one of them had died at the accident spot, another died today.

SRINAGAR, JUN 13 (IANS): Two terrorists were killed on Tuesday during a joint security operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said. The operation by the police and army was conducted in the Dobanar Machhal area and a search operation is currently underway. The security forces received specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area. After the area was cordoned off, terrorists hiding there started firing, drawing retaliation by the security forces.

MIRZAPUR, JUN 13 (IANS): In a shocking incident, a driver allegedly crushed a man to death because the latter objected to him criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The accused has been identified as Amjad while the victim is Rajesh Dubey, 59. Mirzapur SP Santosh Mishra said that there were some arguments over politics among the occupants of the car which apparently irked the driver who started criticising the Prime Minister and the chief minister. After some time, Rajesh got down from the car was walking towards his house when Amjad ran the car over him. Dubey died on the spot.

Raj Police seize narcotics worth Rs 1.82 cr JAIPUR, JUN 13 (IANS): In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Rajasthan Police have arrested five smugglers and recovered 182 kg of high quality ganja which was being smuggled from Odisha.

A team of Rajasthan Police CID Crime Branch seized the large consignment of drugs.

The value of the recovered ganja in the international market is about Rs 1.83 crore said officials on Tuesday.

BHOPAL, JUN 13 (PTI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday termed Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra a “mausami” (seasonal) Hindu without taking her name, a day after she offered prayers to Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh.

Addressing Kisan Mahakumbh or congregation of farmers at Rajgarh, Singh said India has become strong under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi “who is a man with the 56-inch chest, though the country follows the principle of not to attack first”.

Singh alleged that Congress has been misleading the people, who should understand the reality.

They even didn’t fulfil the first guarantee of waiving loans of farmers,” the defence minister said. He said India has become powerful in the world and no one can dare to challenge us.

AHMEDABAD, JUN 13 (PTI): As cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ with an extensive damaging potential is likely to make landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat’s Kutch district on Thursday evening, the administration has so far shifted 21,000 people from different coastal districts to temporary shelters, an official said on Tuesday.

The gover nment is aiming to evacuate people within 10 km of the coast.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is predicted to make landfall near Jakhau port as a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ with maximum wind speed reaching up to 150 kilometres per hour (kmph). The cyclone is likely to impact the Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts of Gujarat the most. “ We h ave a l r e a dy started evacuating people residing near the coast who are likely to be affected the

most during the landfall. So far, various district administrations have shifted nearly 21,000 people to temporary shelters. The evacuation process is still on and all the targeted population will be shifted by today evening to safer places,” said State Commissioner of Relief, Alok Kumar Pandey.

Among the 21,000 people, nearly 6,500 were evacuated in Kutch district alone, followed by 5,000 in Devbhumi Dwarka, 4,000 in Ra-

jkot, 2,000 in Morbi, more than 1,500 in Jamnagar, 550 in Porbandar and 500 in Junagadh district, he told reporters in Gandhinagar.

He said one person has died in an incident linked to the cyclone.

On Monday, one Varsha Bavaliya was killed and her husband was injured after a tree fell on their motorcycle on a state highway in Jasdan taluka of Rajkot district due to strong winds, he added.

PATNA, JUN 13 (PTI): In a sudden move, Bihar minister Santosh Suman resigned from the state cabinet today alleging “pressure” to merge his Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U).

Mr Suman, who held the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes welfare portfolio, is the national president of HAM founded by his father Jitan Ram Manjhi, a former chief minister.

“I have sent my resignation to the chief minister and personally met Vijay Kumar Chaudhary (senior JD(U) leader and minister) to explain my point. I hope my resignation will be accepted. We are, though, not pulling out of the Mahagathbandhan,” Mr Suman told reporters.

He pointed out that his father, who then headed the party, had decided to quit the NDA last year and join the Mahagathbandhan because of his loyalty towards the chief minister.

“It is for the Chief Minister to decide whether we be kept in the Mahagathbandhan or expelled. We will decide accordingly. But in view of the JD(U)’s proposal, I had to take a decision to save my party from extinction. Hence I resigned,” said Mr Suman. The opposition BJP in the state was quick to claim that the development was a dampener for Nitish Kumar’s opposition unity efforts as part of which he will be hosting a conclave next week, to be attended by bigwigs like Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal.

“The resignation of Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son is proof of the chasm that

exists in the Mahagathbandhan. The alliance has been rejected by the people and it will become evident in the Lok Sabha polls next year and culminate in the defeat of the Mahagathbandhan in the assembly elections a year later,” said BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.

However, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari, whose party helms the Mahagathbandhan, said, “Jitan Ram Manjhi has been known for his pressure tactics and prevarications.

Though our government will not be affected by this decision, this is a move they will regret.”

While Mr Suman is a member of the legislative council, HAM has a total of four MLAs, including Jitan Manjhi. In the 243-strong Bihar assembly, 122 members are needed for a government to survive. Minus HAM, the Mahagathbandhan, which also includes Congress and the Left, still has close to 160.

NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI): The Congress on Tuesday intensified its attack on the Centre over the alleged data breach on CoWIN platform and accused it of not being able to protect the personal details of crores of people.

Asserting that the CoWIN portal was completely safe with adequate safeguards for data privacy, the government has dismissed as “mischievous” the claims of data breach on the platform and said the matter has been reviewed by the country’s nodal cyber security agency CERT-In. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said

KANPUR, JUN 13 (IANS): Three farmers died allegedly after being run over by a car of a Public Works Department (PWD) official in Kanpur’s Bilhaur town. The three elderly farmers, all residents of Billhaur, were standing on the side of the Lucknow-Etawah road on Monday evening when the car ran over them leading to their on the spot death, police said. The deceased farmers have been identified as Surendra Singh, 62, Ahibaran Singh, 63, and Ghaseete Yadav, 65.

The accused driver, Ajeet Kumar Pandey, has been arrested.

PUNE, JUN 13 (PTI): Four people were killed and three injured when a chemical-laden tanker caught fire following an accident and exploded on Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Tuesday, police said. The accident took place on the expressway stretch between Lonavala and Khandala, an official said. The tanker caught fire following an accident and exploded causing fiery balls of the chemical to fall on the motorists travelling on the road below, he said. Four motorists on the road below sustained injuries, of which three died, while one occupant of the tanker was killed and two others in the vehicle were injured, said the official from Lonavala police station.

ndia’s defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final on June 11, again underlined the cricket-mad country’s lack of success in global tournaments and sadly, despite the flop by the country’s overpaid and over hyped cricket super stars whose future ought to be in doubt, nothing is going to change and neither will Indian cricket. No one in the BCCI will drop their individual favourite, spoilt and over hyped cricket superstars. India’s top order overpaid, over hyped cricket superstarbatsmen comprising Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar pujara and Virat kohli went cheaply in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) Final , leaving a nation shell shocked. Wasn’t India the cricket champion in all forms, at least as per the impressive record at home against Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh? What was commented by India’s veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar could indicate an insulation from any blame other than bad luck.

Gavaskar had blamed the bad shots played by the batsmen and which could mean an advice that the floppers need to work on their techniques and still continue. Indian cricket is known to produce such flashes of brilliance from time to time. But the tragedy with Indian cricket is the lack of consistency with which these results come through. In comparison Australia has now become the only men’s team to have won all the senior ICC titles up for grabs.

Australia with a population of approximately 2.6 crore people, as compared with India’s 150 crore people, has more OdI World Cup trophies than India. They have had a far more dominant men’s team than India’s over the past century. Their women’s team has consistently bested the women’s team of India across formats over the years. The Australian system does not believe in resting on laurels. The Aussies yearn to be champion in all three formats in both men’s and women’s cricket. Their under-19 cricket is more for development than anything else. The only place they lag India is in terms of their franchise T20 competition and the valuation of their commercial rights. The only place that India bests Australia is in the revenue income from commercial rights of cricket. However, there is no knowing as to what percentage of that amount goes into development of the sport and a question that no one will answer.

Stadiums are a mess, those governing the game locally are in a constant flux and the less said about the development programmes the better. The fact that Indian cricket has more ageing superstars than future stars is due to the system. There is also a cloud over team coach Rahul dravid whose over cautious approach landed the team in a timid zone.

Rohit Sharma(36); Virat kohli(34), Chhateswar pujara(35), Umesh Yadav( 35); Ravindra Jadeja( 36) and Ravichandran Ashwin(36) are past their prime and India has to find substitutes. Sports is about winning and the Indian selectors have to adopt new approaches to phase out the old guns for a younger lot instead of persisting as they did with Virat kohli and Rohit Sharma. This should be kept in mind since the next ICC championships will be in two years and by which time these superstars will be jaded.

onsequent upon the vandalism of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) office at its Oking in the wee hour, nay - under the cover of midnight darkness, of the 27th May 2023, by some unknown miscreants then at that point in time, the Federation as required by law, filed an FIR (First Information Report) to the nearest Police Station, which was at the North Police Station Kohima for information and necessary action.

Following which, media reports say, that the driver of the JCB which was used to vandalize and destroy the Naga Club Building, which houses the office of the NSF, All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and Kohima Press club was arrested. This was followed by arrest of two more unnamed culprits.

And as the Naga students community all over the Naga country were demanding the immediate arrest of all other culprits involved, with condemnations coming from many social and tribal organizations of the Naga society, including the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief

Mention must be made that the benevolent leadership of Kohima Village then had given a house with a plot to the NC below Mission Compound Kohima for the use and benefit of all Naga people as free Guest House to promote Naga brotherhood and unity, whereby Naga people from the remotest Naga inhabited regions would come and take shelter and the people of Kohima Capital Town would go there to make friendship with our traveling brothers/sisters by playing carrom board, chess, cards, Ludo, badminton, reading newspapers, etc. Once they get acquainted, the travelers would not go to the NC Bldg anymore but rather to their newly made brothers’ home.

Never try to make your experience a principle for others, but allow God to be as creative and original with others as He is with you.

If you abandon everything to Jesus, and come when He says, “Come,” then He will continue to say, “Come,” through you. You will go out into the world reproducing the echo of Christ’s “Come.” That is the result in every soul who has abandoned all and come to Jesus.

Minister who is also Home Minister of Nagaland, and many other Ministers and Legislators, who not only expressed their deepest resentments but also physically visited the “battered and humiliated” building to stand in solidarity with the NSF, came the shocking revelation that the Naga Club Building was “demolished” by some people calling themselves as officials of Naga Club, who then went applying for anticipatory bails from the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court, without anybody framing charges against them.

In the meantime, on June 7 2023, the Angami Public Organization (APO) and the Kohima Village Council (KVC) issued a Joint Appeal, asking NSF amongst others; “to withdraw the FIR soonest possible as a good gesture to find an amicable solution”, for which, the Federation after due consultations with the seniors and its Federating units and sub-ordinate bodies have decided to withdraw the FIR with immediate effect. NSF therefore, request all concerned, not to misconstrue this deci-

sion as a sign of weakness, but rather of upholding the resolution adopted at the Emergency Senior Consultative Meeting held on the 30th of May 2023. And that this decision is being taken with the deepest faith and trust in the wisdom of the APO and KVC for which we re-pose our full trust and confidence.

The present incumbent, who also only occupied the office of NSF from our predecessors and will be passing our responsibilities on to upcoming leaders, have nothing to gain or to lose from this dispute.

But history will be unkind if we are to let ‘greed and falsehood triumph’ without any prejudice to anyone.

NSF has and will remain steadfast in upholding the interests of the Naga youths and all Nagas in general for Unified Lim and Glory of the Nagas.

In light of the same, the continued peddling of ‘Half truth and Half lies’ to mislead the Naga people and polarize their thoughts, the Naga Students’ Federation, despite our unwillingness to go into details of countering the lies put across in public domain

by those claiming to be leaders of the Naga Club, is compelled to put on record some relevant historical truth for the consumption of the Naga people. a) It was on 31st October 1974 Eno. Vilalhoulie Angami, Retd. Deputy SP wrote to the President of NSF explaining about the Genesis and the subsequent disappearance of the Naga Club while also requesting everyone that the NSF take over the charge of the Naga Students’ Federation cum Naga club for the welfare of the Nagas. b) 0n 7th Januar y 1982, a meeting was held at Kohima village Panchayat hall wherein the Naga Club was revamped with Eno. Azuto Rengma as its President. c) In 1983, Late Vizolie Sorhie, the then President NSF and his General Secretary, Eno. Imkong Imchen among other officials were approached by the Naga Club office bearers and Naga Elders Conference to reclaim the Naga Club building which was earlier occupied by the Forest Department and vacated by then. It should be noted that even after

shifting their office, the department kept the building locked and never handed over the keys to the Naga Club. Many more efforts were made to reclaim the Naga Club building in the most appropriate manner but the government refused to cooperate. Subsequently, NSF led by Late. Vizolie Sorhie President NSF, Late Machimvu Ritse, Finance Secretary, Eno. Neingulo Krome, Member Action Committee NSF and Eno Kewezu G Kenye President ANCSU went and broke the lock and occupied the Naga Club Building. Following which Mr. Neivor Rutsa volunteered his vehicle bearing Registration No. NLT-309 to assist in shifting the NSF office to Naga Club. Later on, rooms were also provided for ANCSU, Naga Elders Conference and gradually office of the Oking Times and also the Naga Mothers’ Association. d) When the rent for the month of April 1983 was paid and received by the then General Secretary of the then Naga Club, Late Vilavor Liegese, it was clearly mentioned as ‘with the Good consent

Appreciation of Kohima Village Council regions, they were never treated as strangers because wherever they would go, they would find their brothers and sisters whom they befriended in the NC guest house at Kohima.

That was how the Naga Club fostered brotherhood and the Naga people as a People and a Nation. But when the old Guest House below Mission Compound Kohima was totally damaged during the World War II, the present NC Bldg site near the Old Secretariat, Opp. Kohima Local Ground was again allotted by the people of Kohima Village to the NC to be used for the benefit and unification of all Naga People.

The new NC Bldg would have been used as the old one, however due to the turbulent political situation the same was used as NNC’s Office as NNC is the byproduct of NC and the subsequent developments are in the knowledge of the public as we all know.

History testifies that the People of Kohima Village had been instrumental in the formation of the NC where Rheichalie Pienyü had to shoulder the responsibility of the NC for 24 long years as President, Secretary and Treasurer since its inception on 7th Jan. 1918 till 1942. Again, the Simon Commission of 1929 submitted by the NC was excellently drafted by Rüzhükhrie Sekhose,

which became the Magna Carta of Naga National Politics and laid down the rock-solid written foundation of the Naga Peoples’ rights that gave the legitimacy, and subsequently through the Naga Plebiscite, the mandate to self-determination. The NC was formed by some educated and erudite Govt. servants serving in the DC’s Office, Kohima on 7th Jan. 1918 under the Chairmanship of Rheichalie Pienyü, peshkar.

Attempts have been made by elements with vested interest to distort the facts of history by the claim that the NC was formed by the “Naga Labour Corps”.

History testifies to the fact that the Naga Labour Corps returned only in June 1918 and the NC had already existed by then.

While the Naga Labour Corps could also have contributed its experience towards the Memorandum to the Simon Commission, since some of them serving as Doubashis in the DC’s Court were also found to be signatories to the Simon Commission along with Dr Khosa Angami who was a resident of Kohima Town, however it would be a distortion of history by anyone to state that the Naga Labour Corps on their return from abroad after serving in the First World war, formed the NC or that the NC was their brainchild.

Having stated thus, the NC has no intent to glorify one or vilify the other, but is deeply concerned that the facts of history must be rightfully narrated for posterity so that we do not confuse the upcoming generation.

We all are aware that the NC was not allowed to erect its 100 years Centenary Monolith at its rightful place beside the NC Building.

And this treacherous act on the Naga People has been rightly noted in your KVC’s letter that stated, (quote) “Belated though, the Council wished to put on record that the Centenary Jubilee Celebration Monolith of the Naga Club should be erected at the proper site that is the Naga Club building at Khuochiezie.

The Council further wishes to clarify that the entire area of the Naga Club building belongs to the Kewhimia ancestral land and therefore the buildings around Naga Club on a temporary permit should not be made permanent as it is under the jurisdiction of the Naga Club only” and also that “no one should distort the history of the Naga Club to suit their own interest but let historical facts remain as hard facts for posterity” (unquote).

Your knowledge and comprehension of the facts of history of the NC and its continuation of office has guided you to resolve

of Mutual understanding’ which was to facilitate and legitimize that ‘Naga Club’ was the owner of the same building which at that point in time was also being claimed by another group of individuals in the name of another Naga Club , and the dispute matter was lying under the court of Deputy Commissioner, Kohima for hearing. And this receipt of Rs. 500 for the month of April 1983 paid by NSF became evident of proof and the court ruled in favor of the Naga club, which was never ever contested again.

Otherwise, there was ‘mutual understanding’ that the building will always belong to Naga Club and NSF will only be the guardian and custodian of the building according to demands of situations. And ever since the building was taken over in April 1983, NSF did all repair and renovation works of the building and its premises, including additional construction which still stands majestically, despite its agedness.

Can we not honestly read the writing on the wall staring back at us? The ethnic cleansing exercise in Manipur is but a small RSS experiment that will eventually usher in a colossal nationwide Hindutva tsunami in the years to come… in the like manner Hitler did to Germany…and it is bound to have a direct crippling impact on the future of the Naga Christian minority in various critical ways…with a final ultimatum…become a Hindu or else face the consequences!!!!!!! With the death toll still mounting… the total collapse of Manipur Government machinery clearly warrants imposition of President’s Rule… if we were really living in a Democratic Country. This however is not about to happen for a very obvious reason: Manipur is a BJP run State and therefore everything that has transpired has the tacit blessings of the BJP Center.

In this damning scenario there is yet another aspect of behavior of some of our Naga brothers of Manipur…so let’s take a closer look at the events that have

taken place a step at a time.

On 3rd May 2023 a simultaneous comprehensive Solidarity March involving all the Tribal folks took place in the entire Tribal Districts of Manipur against the possible grant of ST status to the Meeteis…which included ‘our very own’ Tangkhul brothers. Thereafter, the audacious silence and inaction by all the other Tribal people of Manipur was palpable when the Kukis had to suffer the full brunt of the brutal backlash from the well organized, well armed, preplanned frenzied Meitei mob.

While most seems to be focusing on the job angle to the ST status being sought for by the Meiteis, the end objective is more sinister than meets the eye. Once the Meiteis obtain their ST status they would thenceforth be legally empowered to buy Tribal land without any restriction. No matter how much the tribals try and restrict their tribal people from selling land to the Meiteis… poverty has no sensibility or propriety…and therefore our poor tribal folks will eventually sell their land to the highest bidder which is more likely to be the Meiteis.

This to my mind is the bottom-line threat not only to the Kukis’ land adjoining

the Meitei’s valley but for all tribal land in the hills as well.

With wealth concentrated in the Imphal valley it would not take too long for the Meiteis to overrun the landscape and a day will come when the Meiteis will take command of most of the viable land in the hills as well.

Despite such ruthless hatred plainly being displayed by the Meiteis right before their very eyes against a tribal brother, the utter indifference and lack of unity amongst the tribals of Manipur is clearly unimaginable.

The original plan of ethnic cleansing has now slowly shifted gear into a Hindu Christian slugfest where hundreds of Christian Churches have been looted and torched with the Manipuri BJP Government complacently stocking the fire from the shadows.

Meanwhile, what happened to the NSCN (IM) with their oft proclaimed “Nagaland for Christ”? I suppose this slogan is only applicable to the State of Nagaland… but obviously not relevant in Manipur! To add salt to the wound, it appears that our Tangkhul brothers have finally shown their true character by openly joining hands with the Meiteis in

a time like this… vowing to jointly safeguard Manipur’s territorial integrity according to “The Sangai Express”. Are the Nagas of Nagaland awake to this recent development? For all practical purpose the NSCN (IM) is a Tangkhul outfit with some Naga tribes of Nagaland (including the Sumis) tamely following them as their superficial Naga window dressing! Having said this…now let’s revisit the history of our Naga National Movement.

The Tangkhuls, as a people, refused to join the Naga National Movement when it first began. This is a fact of history. It was a time when their mass involvement was desperately needed during the worst period of a horrific genocide being inflicted upon the Nagas of Nagaland by the Indian Army.

That a few stray cases of an individual Tangkhul or two having joined the Movement is of no real consequence. Finally, under advisement of one farsighted gentleman named Mr. Suisa, the godfather of a few people like Ramiyo and Muivah, they too joined the movement only in 1965 after cease fire was in place and when the environment was relatively less dangerous.

Today, through various devious political maneuvers and ruthless exterminations of opposition, they have overpowered and usurped the Naga National Movement (that they refused to join) through the power of their guns and merciless taxation and are now dictating the terms of negotiation with the GoI…presumably for the Nagas.

Their arrogant audacity lays in the fact that the NSCN (IM) have refused to transparently share their ‘Competency Clauses’ to the stake holders…that’s predominantly concerning US…the Nagas of Nagaland! The Tangkhul brothers in the NSCN (IM)… lead by their unquestioned all mighty Muivah…are playing a treacherous game with the lives and the future of the Nagas of Nagaland with half-truths and sinister questionable motivations.

Their definition of “Shared Sovereignty” is a sham… just to save face... knowing very well that Mr. Muivah had himself publically proclaimed in 2012 that “Sovereignty” and “Integration” was no longer on the negotiation table.

While “Sovereignty” might have understandably been an impossible ask, the ease with which our Tang-

khul negotiating brothers were willing to forego the issue of “Integration” can now be discerned more vividly. On the one hand, it’s no wonder then that this socalled Southern brother has now very willingly and voluntarily joined hands with the Meiteis to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur while the rest of the tribal folks, including the Kukis, are being forced to live in fear. On the other hand the NSCN (IM) wants to declare the State of Nagaland as a “Naga Nation” for obvious reason.

While enjoying their i n d e p e n d e n t exc l u s ive privileges within their own “Autonomous Regional Territorial Council” that they have salvaged for themselves from the GoI, they want to also enjoy equal privileges as citizens of this so-called “Naga Nation” after pretentiously negotiating for and giving up on the ‘geographical integration’ of the Naga contiguous territories in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh…thus putting in place their unambiguous policy of “mine is mine… yours is ours”.

GURUGRAM, JUN 13 (IANS): Three women working at an MNREGA project died in a mudslide at Pataudi in Gurugram district on Tuesday. According to the police, eight women working on the spot were buried when a five-foot tall mound of mud crashed down on them. Only one of them was able to free herself and escape, while the other seven were buried.

Locals and rescue crews responded to her call for help, arrived on the scene, and rescued the women.

They were rushed to a local hospital where three were declared dead.

These include a supervisory strategy which has seen a unification of supervisory architecture, ownership-agnostic and risk-focused supervision and a shift from episodic to continuous supervision, he noted.Without interfering with business decisionmaking at banks, the RBI has done a deep dive into the business models of banks and other lending entities and closely monitors their asset-liability mismatches and funding stability, the governor said.

MUMBAI, JUN 13 (PTI): Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday said the disinflation process in India will be slow.

“As per our current assessment, the disinflation process is likely to be slow and protracted with convergence to the inflation target of 4 per cent being achieved over the medium-term,” Das said in his address at the Summer Meetings organised by Central Banking in London.

In remarks that came a day after official data suggested a cool-down in headline inflation to 4.25 per cent for May, Das said there have been signs of some softening in inflation in recent months, with the consumer price inflation coming down from the 7.8 per cent peak in April 2022.

He said the RBI’s inflation projection for the current financial year 2023-24 is lower at 5.1 per cent, but reminded that the number will still be above the 4 per cent target.

Paudel, 78, was admitted to the Bansbari-based Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre at 11am, according to family sources.

Thailand reports 15 dengue deaths

BANGKOK, JUN 13 (IANS): Amid a concerning increase, Thailand has reported 15 dengue deaths since January this year, with 19,503 cases marking a three-year high, according to government officials. The infection rate in 2023 is 4.2 times higher than last year, Xinhua news agency quoted deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul as saying.

On average, around 900 infections and one death were recorded each week, with most dengue cases found in the capital of Bangkok and five other provinces, according to Traisuree. The ministry’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) said majority of the cases were occurring among children aged between 5 and 14.

KYIV, JUN 13 (AP): Russian missiles rained down in a central Ukrainian city overnight, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than two dozen in a warehouse and an apartment building, regional officials said Tuesday.

The attack in Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown, comes as Ukrainian forces are in the early stages of a counteroffensive, more than 15 months after Russia invaded.

MOSCOW, JUN 13 (AP): Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Tuesday that he wouldn’t hesitate to order the use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons that are set to be deployed to Belarus if his country faces an aggression.

Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the planned deployment of short-range nuclear weapons to Moscow’s neighbour and ally Belarus in a move widely seen as a warning to the West as it stepped up military support for Ukraine.

Putin has emphasised that Russia will retain control of them, but Lukashenko’s statement contradicted that.

“God forbid I have to make a decision to use those weapons today, but there would be no hesitation if we face an aggression,” Lukashenko, known for his blustery statements, said, according to the state news agency BelTA. Russian officials had no immediate comment on Lukashenko’s remarks.

About 100 killed as boat capsizes in northern Nigeria ABUJA, JUN 13 (AP): A boat carrying residents returning from a wedding capsized in northern Nigeria killing about 100 people, police and local residents said Tuesday, as a search for survivors intensified.

The boat capsized early Monday on the Niger River in the state of Kwara close to neighboring Niger state, police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi said.

“What we gathered was there was a boat that capsized and about 100 people died,” he said.

Large-scale evacuations have been ordered by the Sindh government.

Sindh’s Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah told the media that an emergency had been declared and the Army and Navy drafted in to help relocate “more than 80,000 people” who are at risk. “We will not request people but demand them to evacuate,” he told reporters,

adding that the order was being issued through social media, mosques and radio stations.

Shah said that largescale evacuations are already being carried out in Thatta, Keti Bundar, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparkar and UmerKot districts areas likely to face the brunt of the Cyclone Biparjoy, which means disaster or calamity in the Bengali language.

“The help of the Army and Navy has been enlisted to move people to safer places in government schools and offices and other temporary shelters until this crisis is over,” Murad said.

In a press conference in Islamabad, National Disaster Management Authorities (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik said on Tuesday that around 100,000 people will be shifted to safer places by Wednesday evening in a bid to ensure their safety.

‘Mobius Young Climate Leaders’ project launched

DIMAPUR: The “Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development” project in Nagaland was launched by Advisor, Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu on June 12 at Lampstand School, Toluvi, Dimapur.

A press release by Director, Climate Studies and Knowledge Solutions Centre (CS&KSC), Department of Science & Technology (DoS&T), Dr. Atoho Jakhalu informed that the project is a joint collaboration of CS&KSC, DoS&T and the Department of Environment Forests and Climate Change (DoEF&CC) with support from Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) and implemented by YouthNet. The department informed that the project will impart the “pani-pahar” curriculum developed by

Advisor Hekani Jakhalu, ADC Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe and others at the programme.

Hearth Advisors and Cambridge University, in 15 selected schools to raise awareness amongst school children and help them understand the significance of their individual and collective climate action.

Under the “Mobius Young Professional Program”, the department said selected 15 young forestry graduates would implement the curriculum and facilitate tree plantation, waste management and re-

cycling jointly with schools, communities, and village councils supported by the government administration, forest department and municipals.

The campaign which was launched on May 20, culminated on June 5, with mass cleanliness drive within all wards of the municipality. 19 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centres were set up in different wards/colonies as part of the campaign.

During the campaign, 163 volunteers participated in running RRR Centres in different wards and colonies.

NTPRADAO rejoinder to NSVDBA on alleged RD fund misappropriation issue PRADAO was validated by all 16 districts VDB secretary associations and state officebearers. The organisation asked whether NSVDBA was admitting that they were also partners in the share of the alleged misappropriation. NTPRADAO pointed out it was the RD department and not NVDBSA that had to clarify with concrete proof and evidences.

It said that since NSVDBA had come out openly in support of RD department, the VDB association would be liable to be made as one of the respondent in the event of a vigilance SIT probe, PIL, FIR to be filed

by RTI applicant jointly with NTPRADAO and also in the matter of CBI, NIA and Enforcement Directorate etc.

Further, it said that if the claims made by NSVDBA was true, then the RD department must furnish concrete answers with proof of the material/item/cash receipts received by each beneficiary with the actual

location (constructed house photos), furnish bank statement of each beneficiary as evidence. While reminding about the 15-day ultimatum served on chief minister to form an SIT, NTPRADAO cautioned of “a drastic course of action” if there was no positive response.

NSVDBA statement: Responding to the June 9 statement of NTPRADAO, alleging financial scam, NSVDBA president Tohoshe Awomi and jt secretary Noumvuzolie Sachu clarified that the erstwhile Indira AwaasYojana was restructured into PMAY-G in 2016.

NSVDBA said after introduction of PMAY-G, funds were transferred by generating Fund Transfer Orders (FTOs) through Public Fund Management System (PFMS).NSVDBA said it had requested the department to adopt this system keeping in mind the difficulty faced by beneficiaries residing in far flung areas in procuring materials on

their own, hostile terrain and the cost of transportation to remotely located villages. It, therefore, termed the allegation that “no amount was given to the beneficiaries under PMAY-G” as a delusional statement.

NSVDBA said the beneficiaries were given materials to construct houses and to accuse that the beneficiaries did not receive money in their accounts should not be translated as money being misused. It pointed out that this system of implementation was adopted with the approval of Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).

However, in order to give more autonomy to the beneficiaries, NSVDBA said it was decided to fully adopt the Direct Benefit Transfer

(DBT) mode, where funds are transferred directly to personal bank accounts of beneficiaries in three instalments. It said in the 1st instalment-- house should be constructed upto the foundation level, 2nd instalment up to lintel level and 3rd instalment upon completion.

It said the RD ministry approved DBT mode and currently, the entitled amount of Rs 1,30,000 was directly credited to each beneficiary’s account. It pointed out that the current system of implementation, use of cheques to withdraw money was prohibited as every transaction was reflected in PFMS, regularly monitored

by MoRD. Therefore, it isad the allegation of siphoning off money meant for ben-

eficiaries was totally baseless and defamatory. Apart from being an impossibility and instead of blindly accusing the department with halfbaked information to create confusion amongst the mass, the association asked the concerned people to rather sit with the grass root organisations to gain clarity.

It said that such an act of demeaning a department and its officers with baseless and malicious allegations was not expected of an organisation that was not even a month old. “One begins to wonder if this brand-new organisation was formed to shield some individuals with personal vendetta against the RD department, as it was officially formed only on May 31, 2023,” it stated.

A total of 12 players turn up for the selection

KO H I M A , J U N 1 3 (NPN): The weeklong All India Football Federation (AIFF) ‘D’ license course organised by Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) under the aegis of Nagaland Football Association (NFA) culminated at Indira Gandhi Stadium, here on Tuesday.

In a brief remark during the closing programme, president, NFA & AIFF executive member, K Neibu Sekhose, said the association had given priority to develop coaches and referees in the state.

He pointed out that Nagaland was in dire need of qualified coaches, especially in the grassroot level, who would be able to help improve the standard of football in the State.

Lauding KDFA for organising and hosting the much needed course, Sekhose said such a course was important as it would help train kids at the grassroot level and most important teach them the basics.

According to DPRO report, in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas, C IAS has informed all the interested high schools and higher secondary schools under Kohima district to collect the forms at the following places:- District Sports Officer (IG Road, Opp, SCERT Office); District Education Office Kohima (Scett. Road below NBCC Convention Hall); SDEO Kohima (Scett. Road below NBCC Convention Hall) and SDEO Chiephobozou.

The forms will be issued from June 2023 onwards and the last date of submission is July 14 at the District Sports Office.

M A D R I D, J U N 1 3 (AGENCIES): Brazil will play a friendly match against Spain at the Bernabeu in March next year as part of an anti-racism campaign in support of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr, the Spanish FA (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales said on Tuesday, reports Reuters.

Rubiales and his Brazilian FA (CBF) counterpart, Ednaldo Rodrigues, met in Madrid to launch their joint movement to combat racism under the slogan “One skin”.

The agreement follows the racist insults 22-year-old Vinicius suffered in a LaLiga match at Valencia in May, the 10th

such incident against the player that LaLiga has reported to prosecutors this season.

“It is important to understand that harder punishment needs to be applied in cases of racism by the football authorities,” Rodrigues told a news conference. “Fines are not enough.

The clubs need to be held accountable too.

CBF was the first football federation to adopt harder sanctions for cases of racism, such as the deduction of points in league standings, closure of stands or the lifetime expulsion of club members.

“We need to lead a campaign worldwide to

fight against this virus that ashame everyone in football.”

Last month, the CBF also launched a national campaign against racism in Brazilian league matches with the slogan “There is no game with racism”.
